SOME VEHICLES MAY NOT HAVE HAD A REQUIRED CAP INSTALLED WHICH DISABLES THE HEADLIGHT HORIZONTAL AIM AND SOME VEHICLES MAY CONTAIN A CAP THAT DISABLES THE VERTICAL AIMING SCREW.
- Consequence: NONCOMPLIANCE CAN INHIBIT PROPER HEADLAMP AIM ADJUSTMENT FOR ROADWAY ILLUMINATION, IMPROPERLY AIMED HEADLAMPS COULD CAUSE REDUCED ROAD VISIBILITY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR THE PRESENCE OF A CAP IN THE SOCKET OF THE LOW BEAM HORIZONTAL AIMING SCREW AND INSTALL ONE IF MISSING, AND INSPECT FOR THE PRESENCE OF A CAP IN THE SOCKET OF THE VERTICAL AIMING SCREW AND IF PRESENT, THE CAP WILL BE REMOVED. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON OCTOBER 31, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VW AT 1-800-822-8987.

- Consequence: THE BRAKE LIGHTS COULD BECOME INOPERATIVE, OR REMAIN ON. FAILURE TO PROVIDE THE PROPER SIGNAL WHEN BRAKING COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NEWLY DESIGNED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. VEHICLES WITHIN THE MAKE, MODEL, AND MODEL YEAR OF THIS POPULATION MAY BE INVOLVED IN EITHER THIS RECALL OR 06V-183, BUT NOT BOTH. THE REMEDY IS THE SAME FOR EACH RECALL. This car is fantastic! It's comfortable, reliable, and FAST! I've driven at high speeds in 6th gear and still had room to go faster, yet it still felt absolutely solid and responsive. You can also frequently bypass gears. The leather seats are comfortable and I haven't stuck to them, which was one reason I was hesitant about buying leather. Overall, the GTI is an amazing car. Who else puts 10 airbags in their cars for front and REAR passengers? Not many! VW has thought of everything with this car. Thank you, VW!

We have experienced three cracked windshields in less than two years, and we cannot identify any impact that caused the cracks. Interestingly, each crack has occurred in an unusual pattern, forming a 90-degree angle and resembling the shape of an 'L.' Although the dealership claims that this is a coincidence, we disagree. Even the dealership admits that they have not seen this pattern of crack before, but they deny that it has anything to do with the window shield frame or the installation pattern. We are frustrated with this situation and concerned that it may impact our insurance premium.

I bought a 2006 GTI in June and gave it to my son as a reward for his academic achievements. Unfortunately, during his first trip from Clearwater, FL to Florence, SC, the A/C compressor broke down and the parts are back-ordered for three weeks. The mechanic at VW informed me that he has three Passats waiting for the same part. Although it appears to be a recall candidate, VW America denies any issues. I purchased this vehicle for peace of mind as my son's campus is about 500 miles away, and it's disappointing that it broke down on his first trip. I hope VW's customer service improves in the future. It's important to note that the 2006 GTI may have some issues, despite being fun to drive.
