- Summary: CERTAIN VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." SOME VEHICLES MAY NOT HAVE HAD A REQUIRED CAP INSTALLED WHICH DISABLES THE HEADLIGHT HORIZONTAL AIM AND SOME VEHICLES MAY CONTAIN A CAP THAT DISABLES THE VERTICAL AIMING SCREW.
- Consequence: NONCOMPLIANCE CAN INHIBIT PROPER HEADLAMP AIM ADJUSTMENT FOR ROADWAY ILLUMINATION, IMPROPERLY AIMED HEADLAMPS COULD CAUSE REDUCED ROAD VISIBILITY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR THE PRESENCE OF A CAP IN THE SOCKET OF THE LOW BEAM HORIZONTAL AIMING SCREW AND INSTALL ONE IF MISSING, AND INSPECT FOR THE PRESENCE OF A CAP IN THE SOCKET OF THE VERTICAL AIMING SCREW AND IF PRESENT, THE CAP WILL BE REMOVED. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON OCTOBER 31, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VW AT 1-800-822-8987.

- Consequence: THE BRAKE LIGHTS COULD BECOME INOPERATIVE, OR REMAIN ON. FAILURE TO PROVIDE THE PROPER SIGNAL WHEN BRAKING COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

I just picked up my GTI and I'm so happy with it! I test drove a few other cars, like the Honda Civic Si, Mazda3, Scion tC, and Subaru WRX, but the GTI was the clear winner. It has amazing acceleration and handling, and plenty of space for all your belongings. The stereo is fantastic and it comes with so many standard features. Compared to the other cars, the GTI feels like a luxury vehicle.

This car is fantastic for the price and has some great little features that you won't find in other cars! I really appreciate the FSI (fuel straight injection) because it delivers a constant torque to the wheels throughout acceleration. Despite its small appearance, the car is actually quite spacious and comfortable inside. As a 6-foot-tall guy, I still manage to get about 5 inches of headroom in the back seats! The interior is stunning, with a blue or red LED display, stock auto-leveling xenon lights, and audio controls in the steering wheel. The ride is comfortable, even when dealing with big dips on highways and small humps on city streets. Overall, I think this car is amazing and definitely worth the price I paid!

I have never driven a car that is as much fun as my new GTI. The acceleration, handling, and above all else DSG are amazing. This automatic is by far the best thing on the market today. Don't believe me? Go drive one, but be prepared, after driving one of these cars you'll never want to get back in your old car. So make sure you have your checkbook!

I just bought my first VW and it's a 2006 New GTI (2.0 turbo). I'm really impressed by the handling and performance of this car and I would highly recommend it to others. It's so much fun to drive, decent on gas, has plenty of leg room, and it's FAST! I test drove one last week and when I came back home I made the decision to go out and buy this car the next day. I have no regrets.

We have experienced three cracked windshields in less than two years, and we cannot identify any impact that caused the cracks. Interestingly, each crack has occurred in an unusual pattern, forming a 90-degree angle and resembling the shape of an 'L.' Although the dealership claims that this is a coincidence, we disagree. Even the dealership admits that they have not seen this pattern of crack before, but they deny that it has anything to do with the window shield frame or the installation pattern. We are frustrated with this situation and concerned that it may impact our insurance premium.

I bought a 2006 GTI in June and gave it to my son as a reward for his academic achievements. Unfortunately, during his first trip from Clearwater, FL to Florence, SC, the A/C compressor broke down and the parts are back-ordered for three weeks. The mechanic at VW informed me that he has three Passats waiting for the same part. Although it appears to be a recall candidate, VW America denies any issues. I purchased this vehicle for peace of mind as my son's campus is about 500 miles away, and it's disappointing that it broke down on his first trip. I hope VW's customer service improves in the future. It's important to note that the 2006 GTI may have some issues, despite being fun to drive.
