Volkswagen Eos 2008 problems
The Volkswagen Eos is a compact two-door, four passenger convertible manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 2006-2016 — noted for its five-section hardtop retractable roof which itself featured an independently operable glass sunroof. VW marketed the body configuration as a CSC (coupe-sunroof-convertible).
Assembled at AutoEuropa in Portugal, the Eos succeeded the Golf Cabriolet. Eos production ended in May 2015, with a limited number of base trim models marketed as 2016 models in the United States.
The model name derived from Eos, the Greek goddess of the dawn.

Common Volkswagen Eos 2008 problems
The Volkswagen Eos, produced from 2006 to 2016, is a sport compact cabriolet coupé known for its sleek design and seating for four. However, certain model years have been identified as problematic and are best avoided.
One of the most common problems with the Volkswagen Eos, regardless of the model year, is clock spring failure. This issue can lead to problems with the airbag system, steering wheel controls, and other electrical components. It is essential to address this problem promptly, as a faulty clock spring can compromise the safety and functionality of the vehicle.
Another common issue with the Volkswagen Eos is excessive oil consumption. This problem can lead to increased engine wear, reduced performance, and the need for frequent oil changes. In some cases, excessive oil consumption may indicate more severe engine problems that require professional attention.
Defective timing chains are also a common issue with the Volkswagen Eos. A faulty timing chain can cause engine misfires, reduced performance, and increased emissions. In some cases, a defective timing chain may require expensive engine repairs or replacement. Therefore, it is crucial to address this problem promptly to avoid further damage to the engine.
Recalled Takata airbags are another concern with the Volkswagen Eos. These airbags have been linked to explosions that can cause serious injury or death. If your Volkswagen Eos is equipped with a recalled Takata airbag, it is essential to have it replaced as soon as possible to ensure the safety of you and your passengers.
In addition to these common issues, the Volkswagen Eos is known for problems with its folding roof mechanism. Water leaks, squeaks, rattles, and failures of the folding mechanism have been reported by owners. These problems can compromise the comfort and functionality of the vehicle and may require expensive repairs. It is essential to address any issues with the folding roof mechanism promptly to avoid further damage and ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability.
The Volkswagen Eos also has a reputation for unreliable electrics. Dashboard warning lights, window failures, and air-conditioning problems have been reported by owners. These issues can compromise the safety and functionality of the vehicle and may require professional attention to address. It is essential to address any electrical issues promptly to avoid further damage and ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability.
In conclusion, the Volkswagen Eos has several common problems that owners should be aware of. These issues include clock spring failure, excessive oil consumption, defective timing chains, recalled Takata airbags, and problems with the folding roof mechanism and electrics. It is essential to address these problems promptly to avoid further damage and ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability. If you are considering purchasing a Volkswagen Eos, it is recommended to avoid the worst years, such as 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012, to avoid expensive repairs and sudden breaks during your time as an owner.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-05-04
- VIN: WVWFA71F38V
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I OWN A VOLKSWAGEN EOS. FROM THE START MY CAR HAS HAD A WATER LEAK ISSUE. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER AFFILIATED WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR COUNTLESS TIMES IN ORDER TO HAVE THE ISSUE REPAIRED. EACH TIME I DO, THEY TELL ME IT'S REPAIRED & I COME TO FIND OUT THE NEXT TIME IT RAINS, SNOWS OR GOES THROUGH A CAR WASH, THAT THE LEAKING HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE LEAK HAS EVEN CAUSED TECHNICAL ISSUES WITH THE CAR. ONE OF THE LAST TIMES I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED, I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR, IT SHIFTS AND CAUSES THE LEAK TO START AGAIN. BASICALLY, THEIR RESOLUTION WAS THAT IF I DON'T DRIVE MY CAR, IT WON'T LEAK. AFTER THAT, I GOT FED UP & CONTACTED THE MAIN VW HELP CENTER. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND HAD A REGIONAL MANAGER HANDLING MY CASE. SHE TOLD ME THAT IN ORDER FOR THEM TO PROCEED, I WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE LEAKING ISSUE VERIFIED. THE SERVICE CENTER VERIFIED THE LEAK & THEN TOLD HER THAT THEY REPAIRED THE ISSUE. SHE CONTACTED ME AND SAID THAT SHE REALLY BELIEVES IT WAS FIXED THIS TIME. I ASKED HER WHAT I SHOULD DO IF THE LEAK STARTED AGAIN, SINCE I KNEW IT WOULD, AND SHE TOLD ME IF IT DID, I SHOULD CONTACT HER. LO & BEHOLD, THE NEXT TIME IT RAINED, THE LEAK BEGAN AGAIN. I CONTACTED HER AND SHE TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE IT VERIFIED. AGAIN, I BROUGHT IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER, AGAIN THEY SAID THE FIXED IT, AGAIN IT LEAKED WHEN IT RAINED. I CONTACTED HER AND AGAIN SHE TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE THE ISSUE VERIFIED. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A NEVER ENDING CIRCLE AND THIS IS THEIR WAY OF HANDLING THE ISSUE UNTIL SOMEONE IS TOO FED UP AND GIVES UP. THEY'VE HAD MY CASE FOR SO LONG THAT THEY'VE GIVEN ME 3 DIFFERENT CASE NUMBERS TO KEEP THE CASE UP TO DATE. *TR

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY,TIRES,SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2008-05-31
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY,TIRES,SEATS
- Summary: I HAVE HAD A 2008 EOS FOR LESS THAN 3 YEARS. I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AFTER 4 MONTHS, IT HAS HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS INCLUDING ELECTRICAL SEAT NOT WORKING PROPERLY, LEAKS IN WINDOW, CHEAP MATERIALS FALLING OFF NEEDING REPLACEMENT, BRAKES NEEDING SOONER THAN MOST CARS (BRAKES ARE VERY LONG,TAKES FOREVER TO COME TO STOP). AT ABOUT 1YR I STARTED HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH HOW IT DROVE. IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP, ONE TIME IT WAS IN FOR ONE MONTH! IT HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH LURCHING, SURGING, JERKING AND LACK OF POWER WHEN ACCELERATING OR PUTTING INTO SPORT MODE, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND LEAKING FROM WINDOWS AS WELL. THEY REPLACED ONE PART (THAT WAS OFFICIALLY RECALLED) AND THE CAR DROVE WORSE. THEY FINALLY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND NOW HAVE A NEW RATTLING PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO COME FROM THE ENGINE, ALONG WITH WINDOW BUTTON ON DRIVER SIDE STICKING. THERE IS STILL TIMES WHEN I ACCELERATE AND THERE NO INCREASED POWER OR I PUT IT INTO SPORT AND THERE IS NO INCREASE IN SPEED OR RPM'S. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN AGAIN AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WILL HAVE TO COVER COSTS THAT ARE NOT UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. WITH AS MUCH PROBLEMS AS I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR, EVERYTHING SHOULD BE COVERED. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR AND TRY TO STAY LOCAL AND DO NOT DRIVE MUCH IF I DON'T HAVE TO. AFTER READING OTHER PEOPLES PROBLEMS I CAN SEE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTIGATION. I BELIEVE IT IS A DANGEROUS CAR. *TR

I used to own a 2002 Jetta, which was a great car. Now, I am the proud owner of a 2008 convertible Eos in a beautiful light blue color. Whenever I put the top down, people can't help but stare. It's such a fun car to drive that I put 5000 miles on it in the first month. It's fast too, so watch out V-8s!
-
I've had my 2008 2Turbo Eos for just over a year now and unfortunately, I've had to bring it into the dealership for service a few times. The hard top wouldn't go down and there was a coolant system leak. Additionally, I noticed that my car would run low on oil not long after a scheduled maintenance oil change. I was informed that I should frequently check the oil in-between recommended oil changes because the car tends to burn oil quickly. This is not what I expected from a 'high line car' that is just over one year old. Recently, there was a recall for the trunk latch which would close back soon after unlocking. It's been a bit frustrating dealing with these issues, but I'm hopeful that they will be resolved soon.
-
I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you mentioned having some minor repairs done on your item three times within the first month of owning it. That must have been frustrating! Is there anything I can do to help resolve this issue for you?

You've been searching for the perfect car for a while now. Recently, you found a great deal on a 2009 model with low mileage. The car lot told you the story of a little old lady who drove the car and traded it in for a new one. While this may sound like a common story, you found an old insurance card in the car and decided to call the number on it. To your surprise, the lady on the other end was very friendly and confirmed that she loved the car and only traded it in for a brand new one of the exact same model and color. She assured you that the car had no problems with leaks or oil and was very dependable. You decided to buy the car for your 17-year-old daughter and you're really happy with your purchase.

Owning a convertible can be worrisome, especially when it comes to the possibility of rolling the car. However, my husband experienced a rollover and came out without a scratch thanks to the awesome roll over protection! Although we did have some issues with the top sticking when closing and the turbo gaskets needing repair around 90k miles, these were minor compared to the overall positive experience. There was also a minor electrical issue that caused the windows to malfunction in the rain, but it's important to note that the car was 8 years old at the time. Despite these minor issues, I would still take it back in a heartbeat!

After purchasing the car, I experienced acceleration problems. The car would hesitate and then suddenly jump forward, causing me to be pushed back in my seat. Although the garage fixed the issue, the gas mileage was drastically reduced. Unfortunately, the leak in the trunk has not been resolved, and the dealership where I live is not cooperating to fix it. This water leak has made my vehicle worthless. Additionally, I am experiencing problems with the trunk release, condensation or ice on the inside windows, and the top is rubbing on something, causing the paint to rub off. I was told that the squeal in the brakes is normal, but I have had many cars and never experienced this unless there was a brake problem.
Orlo Boyle 2024-11-07
This car has been a nightmare since day one. The convertible operation would freeze mid-transition, and despite taking it in for service, the problem could not be duplicated. However, I was able to take pictures proving that it was stuck, and only then did they find the problem and fix it. Unfortunately, the car now leaks and burns oil at an alarming rate. Despite being told that this is normal, I find it hard to believe that I have to add 1 quart of oil per 100 miles. The transmission was also not smooth and had shifting issues, which I was told was normal. It took three visits for them to finally duplicate the problem, and even then, they crashed the car during a road test. After a month in service, the issues still persist. Despite all of this, I remain confident that these issues will be resolved in a timely and satisfactory manner.

In the year and 3 months that I've had this car, I've unfortunately had to visit the dealership once or twice a month due to some issues. The staff there are so familiar with me now that they recognize me on sight! It's been a bit of a bumpy ride, but I'm hopeful that things will improve. The trunk has failed 4 times, and the suspension and brakes squeak constantly. Additionally, the wheel bearings broke within a year. It's been a bit of a challenge, but I'm still grateful to have such a beautiful car. I'm hopeful that things will improve, but if not, I'll have to consider other options.

Congratulations on purchasing a 2008 Lux for your daughter! It's important to note that this car requires premium gas and regular oil checks, but with proper maintenance, it will run smoothly. Just a heads up, the oil required for this car is not available at gas stations, but can be found at stores like AutoZone or Walmart. Also, the phone buttons on the steering wheel are not functional, as VW did not fully develop this technology. Happy driving!

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2008 Eos. Unfortunately, it has been in the shop 18 times, even though I bought it brand new. To make matters worse, the dealership even wrecked my car twice. Despite my efforts, VWOA has not been helpful. However, I am currently going through the BBB as suggested in the handbook. I really do love my car, but these issues have been overwhelming. If you are experiencing similar problems with your Eos, I encourage you to speak up and share your story.
