Volkswagen Eos 2009 problems
The Volkswagen Eos is a compact two-door, four passenger convertible manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 2006-2016 — noted for its five-section hardtop retractable roof which itself featured an independently operable glass sunroof. VW marketed the body configuration as a CSC (coupe-sunroof-convertible).
Assembled at AutoEuropa in Portugal, the Eos succeeded the Golf Cabriolet. Eos production ended in May 2015, with a limited number of base trim models marketed as 2016 models in the United States.
The model name derived from Eos, the Greek goddess of the dawn.

Common Volkswagen Eos 2009 problems
The Volkswagen Eos 2009 is known for various problems that have been reported by its owners. One of the most common issues is related to the complicated folding roof mechanism, which can give some owners problems. Water leaks are the most frequent complaint, with water often penetrating into the boot and footwells. This issue is more prevalent in earlier cars, but redesigned weather seals appear to have solved the problem in later models. A recommended process for cleaning and lubricating the seals has also helped cure leaks in some cases.
Another problem reported by some owners is the failure of the car's electrics, causing various systems to stop working, such as the front windows, air-conditioning, and dashboard warning lights that can appear and disappear at will. These electrical issues can be related to more serious problems, so it's essential to have them checked promptly.
The engine is another area where the Volkswagen Eos 2009 has had issues. Some owners have reported a complete engine failure, with no compression on three cylinders, possibly due to a timing belt failure. This problem can result in the need for a rebuilt engine, which can be costly.
There are also some specific problems that have been identified with the Volkswagen Eos 2009, such as clock spring failure, excessive oil consumption, defective timing chains, and vehicles with recalled Takata airbags. These issues can affect the car's reliability and safety, making it essential to have them checked and repaired promptly.
In summary, the Volkswagen Eos 2009 has several common problems that owners have reported, including issues with the folding roof mechanism, electrics, and engine. These problems can affect the car's reliability, safety, and overall performance. Therefore, it's essential to have the car checked and maintained regularly to ensure its longevity and performance.

- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I slowly at 5mph went over a bump and my car went automatically into neutral, all of the P R N D S lights on the dash started blinking and the car just kept revving when I tried to put it into gear. I had the car towed to the dealership and it is currently there. I looked on Kelly Blue Book and saw there was a recall for my vehicle type and the recall states exactly what happened to my car. Can my VIN number be added to this recall since it is the very same mechanical issue? Here is the information I found on the recall NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 09V333000 Report Date: AUG 20, 2009 Vehicles Affected: 16000 What You Should Do: VOLKSWAGEN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, INSPECT THE DSG AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE AN AFFECTED DSG TEMPERATURE SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED A NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987. SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-29
- VIN: WVWBA71F79V
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The vehicle has exhibited intermittent ABS, ESC, and Brake light. Code check revealed intermittent communication errors with various parts of the ABS system including the control module. Diagnostics varied, undiagnosable due to intermittent activity and varying codes. April 2021, ABS, ESC, Brake light, codes indicate communication error with the ABS control module. Codes and light reset after being cleared, the vehicle was operational and drives with no detectable issues other than lights/ and possible non-operational ABS. 06/29/2021, 10 minutes into drive vehicle speedometer begins to dance from zero to operating speed, to total fault intermittently in interstate traffic on I-10 west into Houston at Channel View, braking begins to engage automatically/intermittently, loss of engine power, check engine/flashing brake light , vehicle narrowly avoids collision. Vehicle parked and restarted, driven back home with check engine and flashing brake light and intermittent speedometer, no drivability issues. 6/30/21 internet search for similar issues reveals an abundance of similar issues without drivability problems and 2017 recall# Part 473 Safety Recall Report 16V-913. I would call attention to pages 3 and page 4 of this recall 1.) Considering the events of 6/28 and page 3 of the recall under Chronology, Volkswagen appears to admit the problem, and with a thorough understanding of its own systems should openly acknowledge the ability of this system to cause dangerous drivability conditions. 2.) Page 4, Recall Schedule, Description of Recall, Indicates that VW has still to provide dealers and owners with notification of this issue. As an owner and knowledgeable professional in automotive service I can assure you as of 7/1/2021, nearly five years after VW acknowledged the issue in Dec. 2016 to the NHTSA, and 11 years after addressing the concern in production with the 2010 models, we have not been notified.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-06-30
- VIN: WVWBA71F99V
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: ON SUNDAY, JUNE 30TH, 2019, @ ABOUT 6PM, @51K I WAS DRIVING 25MPH AND CAR JERKED, THEN THE RPMS REVVED REALLY HIGH AND CAR SLOWED DOWN, AND "PRNDS" LETTERS STARTED BLINKING. I SLOWED DOWN EVEN MORE AND CAR WAS STILL GOING AT HIGHER THAN NORMAL RPMS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT VERY SLOWLY THROUGH RESIDENTIAL STREETS TO MY HOUSE. WHEN I WAS GOING TO PARK IT IN MY SPOT, I HAD TO PUT IT IN REVERSE, AND WHEN I DID, IT DID NOT MOVE IN REVERSE! DURING ALL THIS THE "PRNDS" LIGHTS KEPT ON FLASHING. I HAD TO TURN IT OFF, PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, AND GET PUSHED INTO MY PARKING SPOT. WHEN I TESTED TO SEE IF CAR WOULD START, IT STARTED PERFECTLY, NO FLASHING LIGHT OR ANYTHING, NO DELAY OR TROUBLE TO START IT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER TURNED ON EITHER. THE DAY BEFORE, I DID HAVE AN ISSUE WITH GETTING THE CAR STARTED, IT NEEDED A JUMP START, AND WHEN THE BATTERY WAS TESTED FOR ITS VOLTAGE, IT WAS RUNNING ON THE LOWER SIDE. I HAD NOT DRIVEN IT ALL DAY ON FRIDAY, AND THE STARTING ISSUES WERE ON SATURDAY. I WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT I MUST HAVE LEFT A LIGHT ON, BUT NOTHING WAS LEFT ON TO DRAIN THE BATTERY. EARLIER ON SUNDAY, I NEEDED TO GO ON ONE OUTING AND THE CAR DID GIVE ME TROUBLE TO START, WITH A DELAYED SLOW START, AND IT DROVE FINE TO MY DESTINATION LESS THAN 4 MILES AWAY. WHEN I LEFT THERE, THE CAR MANAGED TO START WITH THAT DELAY AGAIN, AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME IS WHEN THE CRAZY JERKING, RPM REVVING, AND CAR SLOWING DOWN HAPPENED ABOUT A MILE AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS WAS VERY SCARY, AND I HAVE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT SAME THING! I AM TOO SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR! I HAD IT TOWED TO THE VW DEALER, AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM. WHEN I WAS SIGNING IN AT THE DEALER, ANOTHER LADY WAS REGISTERING HER CAR FOR THE SAME EXACT COMPLAINT AND HER CAR WAS THE SAME EXACT CAR!!! VW NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY PROBLEM AND FIX IT!!!!

- Summary: 2009 VOLKSWAGEN EOS 2.0T TSI ENGINE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILURE DUE DEFECTIVE DESIGN. CAR DID NOT START AND I HAD TO CHANGE THE ENGINE AT MY EXPENSE. NOW I AM NOT SURE IF THE NEW ENGINE (USED) HAS THE NEW DESIGN VERSION TENSIONER OR THE OLD. I HAVE INVESTIGATED AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE. THIS MOST ENGINE CODE IS CCTA AND IS USED IN MANY VW CARS 2008 AND UP. VOLKSWAGEN SENT A BOLETN EXPLAINING THIS FAILURE AND CHANGE THE DESIGN OF THE TENSIONER ON 2012 THIS FAILURE MAY CAUSE CATASTROFIC ENGINE FAILURE AND DESTROY IT. VW HAS NOT TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE.

- Summary: TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER SYSTEM FAILURE I'M REACHING OUT IN REGARDS TO LEGAL ADVICE REGARDING TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER SYSTEM FAILURE ON MY 2009 VOLKSWAGEN EOS. WHILE TRAVELING WITH MY TWO YOUNG SONS FOR THEIR SPRING BREAK, MY CAR COMPLETELY FAILED (WHILE IN-MOTION), PUTTING BOTH MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY TWO CHILDREN IN HARM'S WAY. THE TIME AND RESOURCES SPENT GETTING MY CAR TOWED TO THE MECHANIC, EMOTIONAL TRAUMA/STRESS, AND LOSS IN PRODUCTIVITY HAS BEEN A BLOW FOR MY FAMILY- NOT TO MENTION THE COST TO REPAIR (WHICH I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE THE INVOICE). UPON RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, IT WAS UPSETTING TO LEARN THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR VOLKSWAGEN- TO THE POINT WHERE THEY'VE FACED LITIGATION ON NUMEROUS OF FRONTS. THERE ARE ALSO REPORTS WHERE VW ADJUSTED THEIR PRODUCTION/MANUFACTURING PROCESS IN 2012 TO ADDRESS 'SAID ISSUE'. YET VW HAS YET TO DO WHAT'S IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THEIR CONSUMERS THAT OWN MODELS PRIOR TO 2012. I DON'T EXPECT VOLKSWAGEN TO GIVE ME A BRAND NEW CAR, BUT I DO EXPECT THEM TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PRODUCTS. IF THE TIMING CHAIN WAS FAULTY AND THEY WERE WELL AWARE, VW SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST. THIS EXPERIENCE HAS EMOTIONALLY TRAUMATIZING FOR MY KIDS AND I ON MULTIPLE FRONTS, AND FOR US TO BE HIT FINANCIALLY IS AN EVEN MORE OF A SLAP IN THE FACE TO MY FAMILY BY THE MANUFACTURE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE ABLE TO ASSIST/ADVISE. I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU - - THANK YOU!!!
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-01-24
- VIN: WVWBA71F79V
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: DEALER PERFORMED A FREE ABS SOFTWARE & MODULE UPDATE RECALL SERVICE BUT DIDN'T DO A GOOD JOB BECAUSE THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WENT ON AFTER I GOT THE CAR BACK. TURNS OUT THEY ONLY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE AND DIDN'T REPLACE THE MODULE SO THE ABS BRAKES DON'T WORK SINCE THE MODULE CAN'T SUPPORT THE NEW SOFTWARE. DEALER IS NOW TRYING TO CHARGE ME $2,000 TO REPLACE THE MODULE BECAUSE THE VW RECALL WARRANTY ONLY COVERS THE BILL IF THEY WERE ALL DONE ON THE SAME DAY. I STILL DON'T HAVE A WORKING CAR BACK BECAUSE OF IT. THEY KEEP REFERRING ME TO AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I DON'T QUALIFY FOR INSTEAD OF THE PROBLEM AT HAND WHICH IS THAT THEY OFFERED ME A FREE RECALLS SERVICE AND NEVER GOT IT DONE RIGHT. PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS ISSUE SO I CAN GET MY WORKING CAR BACK. THEY SAID THEY CAN'T EVEN UNDO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT CAUSED THIS ISSUE.
STEERING,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-11-25
- Crash: 1
- VIN: WVWBA71F59V
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: MY 2009 EOS IS UNDER RECALL FOR THE ABS SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONING. I WAS NEVER INFORMED ABOUT THIS. I REPLACED MY BRAKES AS ONE MECHANIC THOUGHT BECAUSE THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT WENT ON - THAT WAS NEEDED. THE ABS LIGHT STILL STAYED ON. LAST WEEK THE ABS LIGHT AND AND ENGINE LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT WENT ON AND MY CAR LOST POWER AND CONTROL ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AT NIGHT LEAVING ME ON THE SIDE OF THE RODE IN DANGER AND HAD TO CALL AAA. VW WILL ONLY REPLACE ABS IF A "CERTAIN CODE" SHOWS UP WHICH THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU ABOUT TILL YOU PAY THE 150.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE- THEN TELL YOU THE VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED IS NOT GOING TO BE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. IN FACT- IT WILL COST 2700.00 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ABS SYSTEM - WHICH NEEDS REPLACING- BUT ONLY IF IT ACCEPTS THE COMPUTER UPDATING SYSTEM. WHICH IS BROKEN BECAUSE IT IS A FAULTY ABS. VW ADMITTED THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF A INCORRECT SOLDER COMPOUND- WHICH CAN CAUSE CRACKING IN THE ENTIRE SYSTEM WHICH CAUSE SUFFICIENT ELECTRICAL POWER TO FLOW. YET- THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR THE ABS CONTROL MODULE TO BE REPLACED???? ONLY THING THEY WILL FIX IS THE COMPUTER UPDATING SYSTEM- WHICH WILL NOT UPDATE IF THE UNIT IS BROKEN- WHICH THEY CAUSED BECAUSE OF A FAULTY UNIT. THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE ABS UNIT WHICH IS BROKEN BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT??? THIS CAUSED MY CAR TO CRASH INTO A POLE- AND ALSO I HAD TO REPLACE THE ABS UNIT WHICH COSTS 1400.00 - NOW I FIND OUT THIS WAS A RECALL AFTER THE FACT. I WENT TO FORUMS AND FOUND AT LEAST 20 OTHERS WIT THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY ARE NOT COVERED??????? THIS IS NOT OKAY AND I WORK FOR ABC AND WILL MAKE THIS A HUGE DEAL JUST LIKE THE OTHER SCANDAL THEY ARE BARELY RECOVERING FROM- YOU GUYS NEED TO DO SOMETHING. I COULD HAVE DIED AND THEY ARE DOING NOTHING AND NOT COMPENSATING ON MY RECALLED CAR. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN.

I was really excited to reward myself with a hardtop convertible, but I wasn't entirely sure which one to choose. However, once I test drove the Eos, I immediately fell in love with it. It's the perfect size, picks up speed quickly (thanks to the turbo engine), has a sunroof, and looks sleek. The only issue I've had so far is that since I bought it towards the end of winter, I've noticed that when the temperature drops below freezing, condensation builds up inside the car and freezes on the windows. The gas mileage isn't great, but I guess that's to be expected from a turbo engine!

This is my first convertible, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it performs. Although there is some wind noise and it's not as solid as a sedan, I would definitely purchase this car again. It's so much fun to drive and gets great gas mileage.

We bought this car a few months ago after looking at many cars. The EOS is amazing! My partner said, 'I've never loved a car before, but I love this one.' That's high praise, believe me. It's an absolute blast to drive. It's Dr Jekyll when you need to be conservative, Mr Hyde when you want to cut loose. It's still early days, but the car has been consistently quick and solid. This is a future collectible here, and we would definitely buy it again!

It's always a pleasure to see my wife and sons take my car for a spin, even though I sometimes struggle with driving it. The EOS is a smooth and reliable car, and I'm glad I settled on it after test driving many others. The interior is excellent, although I do wish the back seat had a little more leg room, but that's not a big deal since I don't plan on sitting in the back. The stereo system is top-notch, and I'm impressed with how quiet it is when the hard top is on. Overall, it's a great car!

Purchased base model with 17 inch wheels. It's been great fun to drive! The turbo provides plenty of pick-up, although there is a slight hesitation before it really moves. I compared it with the BMW 328, but I'm glad I went with the Eos. Not only did I save a lot of money, but I'm really enjoying the car. I highly recommend giving this car a try, and dealers are willing to make a deal right now.

After experiencing numerous issues with the electrical system, sensors, gas cap, ABS, braking, fuel pump, airbag, and other components, I decided to trade in my car for a different brand. Despite conducting extensive research prior to purchasing, the 2009 model proved to be a disappointment. As a long-time VW driver, it is regrettable that this will be my last. Thank you for your understanding.

As others have mentioned, the timing chain can stretch and cause significant damage to the engine, ultimately requiring replacement. Unfortunately, this happened to our beloved 2009 car after just over a year of ownership and right over 100,000 miles. The cost of replacing the engine is a hefty $6,000 US, and we still owe $4,000 to the bank. While we adore this fun, little car, we do not believe it is worth the additional financial burden. Therefore, we would caution against purchasing this model.

The DSG transmission is a known issue that affects all VW models, including the EOS. My car was in the dealer for at least 10 business days due to this problem. I am completely dissatisfied and would not purchase this vehicle again. It would have been helpful to have known about this issue before making my purchase.
