2011 Volkswagen Eos problems
The Volkswagen Eos is a compact two-door, four passenger convertible manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 2006-2016 — noted for its five-section hardtop retractable roof which itself featured an independently operable glass sunroof. VW marketed the body configuration as a CSC (coupe-sunroof-convertible).
Assembled at AutoEuropa in Portugal, the Eos succeeded the Golf Cabriolet. Eos production ended in May 2015, with a limited number of base trim models marketed as 2016 models in the United States.
The model name derived from Eos, the Greek goddess of the dawn.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-26
- VIN: WVWAW7AH3BV
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My ABS/ ESC light was on and the brake light was flashing randomly. After diagnostics it appears the ABS module is intermittently not receiving power. Because of this the ABS/ESC system randomly does not work as it should. This seems to be the same issue as the 16V-913 safety recall, but my car was manufactured on July 14, 2010 which was 33 days after the June 11, 2010 cut off date.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-03-17
- VIN: WVWBW7AH4BV
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING OUT OF TOWN AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO GO ABOVE 20 MPH. I PULLED IT OFF OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I RESTARTED AND AGAIN IT WOULD NOT GET PAST 20 MPH. WHEN I SWITCHED THE CAR TO MANUAL MODE IT WOULD NOT GO PAST 2ND GEAR. AFTER A FEW HOURS OF SITTING THE CAR WORKED PROPERLY. I CONTACTED A DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA I WAS TRAVELING AND THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE THE CAR WAS GOING INTO "LIMP MODE" AND THAT VW HAD HAD TONS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THAT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. I DROVE THE CAR HOME. SEVEN DAYS LATER, THE EXACT THING HAPPENED AND I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHO INFORMED ME "THEY HAD NOT HAD ANY TYPE OF COMPLAINT SIMILAR TO WHAT I WAS DESCRIBING". THEY DID HOWEVER CONDUCT A SAFETY RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I TOOK MY CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC BECAUSE MY CONCERN IS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND HAVING THE CAR ABRUPTLY SLOWING DOWN AND BEING STRUCK FROM BEHIND OR IF I AM TURNING, NOT BEING ABLE TO COMPLETE MY TURN BEFORE SOMEONE STRIKES ME FROM THE SIDE. THAT MECHANIC ALSO SAW WHAT I WAS EXPLAINING AND SAID THAT THE DEALERSHIP NEEDED TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY. IT DID THE SAME THING AS I WAS LEAVING THE SHOP SO I HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR SEVERAL DAYS THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THE PROBLEM AND SAID THAT THE DSG TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT A WARRANTY, THEY SAID I WAS NOT COVERED, HOWEVER IN THE LAST 10 YEARS THERE WERE OVER 53,000 VWS AND AUDIS THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAD A RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND IF THIS IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, WHY MINE IS NOT COVERED.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-04-17

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-01-01
- VIN: WVWBW7AH8BV
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TAKATA RECALL. RECEIVE NOTICE THAT I HAVE FAULTY TAKATA AIRBAGS A FEW YEARS AGO. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER I RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT A TEMPORARY REPAIR WAS AVAILABLE THAT WOULD SWAP THE ORIGINAL AIRBAG WITH A REPLACEMENT MODULE OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN THAT DID NOT INCLUDE A DRYING AGENT. THAT NOTICE WAS CLEAR THAT THIS WAS ONLY AN INTERIM REPAIR UNTIL A REDESIGNED UNIT IS AVAILABLE. I HAD THE INTERIM REPAIR DONE ON MY VEHICLE. I NOTICED NOW THAT WHEN SEARCHING FOR RECALLS, IT SAYS THERE ARE NO ACTIVE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT ADDRESSED THE UNDERLYING DESIGN DEFECT, AND BECAUSE THERE IS NOT AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THE VEHICLE IT SEEMS THAT AT THIS TIME IT WILL NOT BE FIXED. PLEASE CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AND ENSURE THAT THEY ARE ADDRESSING THE NEEDED REDESIGN OF THE AIRBAG MODULE. THANK YOU
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-12-01
- VIN: WVWBA7AH1BV
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: THE CLOCK SPRING IN MY CAR HAS FAILED REQUIRING COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. THIS COMPLETE FAILURE COMES A SHORT 9 MONTHS AFTER THE INITIAL 'REPAIR' DONE FOLLOWING A VW RECALL ON THE PART- THEY SIMPLY PLACED A COVER OVER THE ORIGINAL CLOCK SPRING. THEY TELL ME THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PART, BECAUSE I HAD THE INITIAL SAFETY CHECK DONE AT THE TIME OF THE INITIAL RECALL AND THE PART WAS DEEMED FUNCTIONAL AT THAT POINT- EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE AWARE IT WOULD MOST LIKELY EVENTUALLY FAIL.

2011 Volkswagen Eos recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2011 Volkswagen Eos.
- Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2009-2014 Volkswagen CC, 2010-2014 Golf, 2010-2014 Eos, 2007-2010 Passat Sedan and Wagon, and 2012-2014 Passat vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator with an alternative inflator, free of charge. The recall began March 16, 2018. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69Q9. Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 16V-078.
- Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Volkswagen CC, and Passat, 2010-2013 Eos, 2011-2014 Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Tiguan, and 2012-2014 Jetta Sportwagen vehicles. In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag.
- Consequence: A loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag will prevent the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective cover over the steering wheel clock spring if the air bag light is off. If the airbag light is on and the steering wheel clock spring requires replacement, dealers will install a new steering wheel clock spring. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987.

I purchased my Black on Black fully loaded EOS in October and after giving it much thought, I am convinced that it was the right choice. I have read a lot of reviews on the '07-'09 models and I would like to share some tips for those who have had issues. It is important to find an excellent dealer with VW fans in service, as the prep work needed on this car is extensive. During my test drives, only two dealers seemed to have it prepped right. Fortunately, my car has no issues at all. Additionally, it is important to avoid washing this car under 40 degrees as it may mess up the seals. If you do not have a garage, I would not recommend buying an EOS. You have to be patient with the car and be gentle when moving the windows to get in and out. Lastly, I highly recommend the '09 DVD Nav if you drive a lot.

I purchased my car brand new in May 2009 and have since driven it for 50,000 miles. It has been an absolute joy to drive and has provided me with many fun-filled memories. The car's fuel efficiency is also impressive, with 32 MPG on the highway and around 28 MPG in mixed suburban driving. By driving conservatively, I have even achieved as high as 35 MPG on the same route. I have taken great care of my car, following the advice on owner forums to lubricate the roof seals annually to keep them soft and pliable. This has paid off, as I have never experienced any leaks. The mechanical aspects of the car have also been trouble-free, with the only non-routine maintenance being new rear brake pads at 31K and 60K miles. I am disappointed, however, with how VW packaged the options in 2009. To get the leather seats and steering wheel audio controls, I had to buy the Lux, which meant I got an automatic. I wanted the manual, which meant I had to have the Komfort, which couldn't have those other options. Despite this, I still love my manual transmission and believe it was the right choice for me. Recently, I proactively had the timing belt tensioner replaced, now that the extended warranty has expired. Although it cost $1100, I believe it was worth it to prevent a potential catastrophic engine failure. I do wish that VW would issue a recall on this issue. For more information, please search for 'VW timing belt tensioner'. Overall, I am very happy with my car and look forward to many more miles of enjoyable driving.

Unlike many other people who seem to have owned nothing but foreign cars, I have only ever driven U.S.-made cars. Although I know that American cars are now essentially the best they've ever been in terms of quality, I have to say that I have never owned or driven anything as nice as this car. I am saddened that not everyone has had positive experiences, but I purchased it when it was three years old with only 14,000 miles on it, and so far, it has been great! The ride is smooth, the interior is comfortable, the sound system is great, and it turns heads wherever I go. It has plenty of acceleration, and I recommend this car without hesitation. I have driven it 6,000 miles and have nothing but positive things to say about it.

I recently returned from a trip to my hometown, Chicago, from Daytona Beach, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well the EOS performed on the road. Although I initially bought it as a second car, I have grown to love it for its highway manners, excellent fuel mileage, and lack of any squeaks despite having 12 thousand miles on it. Over the course of just over 3 thousand miles of mixed but mostly highway driving, I was able to achieve an impressive 33.7 mpg. There's nothing quite like driving with the top down through the Smokey Mountains early in the morning. Overall, I find the EOS to be a much better car than the 04 Thunderbird I traded in for it, in every way except for appearance.

I was looking for a convertible and had previously shopped around, but ended up testing other soft tops. After a few months, I was able to get an excellent year-end deal and have now had the car for 8 months and 5K miles without any issues. It's an absolute blast to drive and the size is perfect for my needs. I also appreciate that it's not a very common car on the road. When I was deciding whether to buy it, I had to rely on owner input since I didn't know anyone who had one. I hope that my input can help others who are currently shopping. Overall, I'm very happy with the car and plan to keep it for a long time. Additionally, my insurance company offers a great extended warranty, so I'm covered for 7 years and 100,000 miles.

To cut a long story short, I leased my Volkswagen EOS on April 1st, 2009. Unfortunately, the convertible top has malfunctioned three times since then and is currently still in the shop. It stopped mid-air in a parking lot and wouldn't open or close properly, which was quite frustrating. The dealership has informed me that the entire roof needs to be replaced, which is quite expensive, and I am concerned that I may have to pay for it. Despite these issues, I am hopeful that the situation will be resolved soon. Thank you for your understanding.

My beloved Eos is currently being serviced at Al Johnson Volkswagen repair shop, where they are addressing the 12 sheets of repairs that are needed. While Volkswagen has been accommodating thus far, I am still uncertain about when this matter will be fully resolved. Unfortunately, I regret trading my 2000 Camaro Convertible with only 22,000 miles for this vehicle, as it has not met my expectations. Thank you, Nancy.
Mckenzie Lebsack 2025-09-14
I bought this car for 14,000, but unfortunately, I didn't come close to making that back. It has had some coolant issues and struggles with potholes, but overall it's a cute and fun car. However, it may not be the best option for the long term.
Shayne Frami 2025-07-29
Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my EOS convertible. Overall, I think it's a great car for the price and the quality is generally good. I purchased the car new and use it mainly for commuting to work. However, I did experience some issues with the transmission. Unfortunately, at only 1400 miles, the transmission blew and had to be replaced with a refurbished unit. Then, at 10,000 miles, the refurbished transmission also failed. The dealer has been very helpful and provided a loaner car while the car is being repaired. I just wanted to let you know that this particular transmission can be quite complex and may have some inherent issues. If you're considering purchasing a VW with this transmission, it's important to be aware of these potential problems. Thank you for taking the time to read my experience!

I am sorry to hear about the trouble you have had with your VW 2009 EOS Komfort. It seems that there is a common issue with the timing chain in many Volkswagen and Audi models manufactured between 2008 and 2013, which can cause severe engine damage and be expensive to fix. It is understandable that you are disappointed and frustrated with this situation. Have you tried contacting Volkswagen/Audi directly to see if they can offer any assistance or explanation? I hope that you are able to find a satisfactory resolution to this issue. Why have so many other vehicles listed above had this problem and nothing has been done about it? Why hasn't a recall been made? If Volkswagen had any integrity, they would listen to their customers. Unfortunately, due to the lack of support from the Baxter Volkswagen LaVista, NE dealership and VW of America, I will no longer be a customer for any Volkswagen.
