2011 Volkswagen Eos problems

The Volkswagen Eos is a compact two-door, four passenger convertible manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 2006-2016 — noted for its five-section hardtop retractable roof which itself featured an independently operable glass sunroof. VW marketed the body configuration as a CSC (coupe-sunroof-convertible).
Assembled at AutoEuropa in Portugal, the Eos succeeded the Golf Cabriolet. Eos production ended in May 2015, with a limited number of base trim models marketed as 2016 models in the United States.
The model name derived from Eos, the Greek goddess of the dawn.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-26
- VIN: WVWAW7AH3BV
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My ABS/ ESC light was on and the brake light was flashing randomly. After diagnostics it appears the ABS module is intermittently not receiving power. Because of this the ABS/ESC system randomly does not work as it should. This seems to be the same issue as the 16V-913 safety recall, but my car was manufactured on July 14, 2010 which was 33 days after the June 11, 2010 cut off date.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-03-17
- VIN: WVWBW7AH4BV
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING OUT OF TOWN AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO GO ABOVE 20 MPH. I PULLED IT OFF OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I RESTARTED AND AGAIN IT WOULD NOT GET PAST 20 MPH. WHEN I SWITCHED THE CAR TO MANUAL MODE IT WOULD NOT GO PAST 2ND GEAR. AFTER A FEW HOURS OF SITTING THE CAR WORKED PROPERLY. I CONTACTED A DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA I WAS TRAVELING AND THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE THE CAR WAS GOING INTO "LIMP MODE" AND THAT VW HAD HAD TONS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THAT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. I DROVE THE CAR HOME. SEVEN DAYS LATER, THE EXACT THING HAPPENED AND I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHO INFORMED ME "THEY HAD NOT HAD ANY TYPE OF COMPLAINT SIMILAR TO WHAT I WAS DESCRIBING". THEY DID HOWEVER CONDUCT A SAFETY RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I TOOK MY CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC BECAUSE MY CONCERN IS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND HAVING THE CAR ABRUPTLY SLOWING DOWN AND BEING STRUCK FROM BEHIND OR IF I AM TURNING, NOT BEING ABLE TO COMPLETE MY TURN BEFORE SOMEONE STRIKES ME FROM THE SIDE. THAT MECHANIC ALSO SAW WHAT I WAS EXPLAINING AND SAID THAT THE DEALERSHIP NEEDED TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY. IT DID THE SAME THING AS I WAS LEAVING THE SHOP SO I HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR SEVERAL DAYS THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THE PROBLEM AND SAID THAT THE DSG TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT A WARRANTY, THEY SAID I WAS NOT COVERED, HOWEVER IN THE LAST 10 YEARS THERE WERE OVER 53,000 VWS AND AUDIS THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAD A RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND IF THIS IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, WHY MINE IS NOT COVERED.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-04-17
- VIN: WVWBW7AH4BV

- Summary: STARTED MY CAR AFTER WORK AND NOTICED HALF MY EXTERIOR LIGHTS DIDN'T WORK. CHECKED THE FUSES AND F16 FUSE WAS MELTED.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-01-01
- VIN: WVWBW7AH8BV
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TAKATA RECALL. RECEIVE NOTICE THAT I HAVE FAULTY TAKATA AIRBAGS A FEW YEARS AGO. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER I RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT A TEMPORARY REPAIR WAS AVAILABLE THAT WOULD SWAP THE ORIGINAL AIRBAG WITH A REPLACEMENT MODULE OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN THAT DID NOT INCLUDE A DRYING AGENT. THAT NOTICE WAS CLEAR THAT THIS WAS ONLY AN INTERIM REPAIR UNTIL A REDESIGNED UNIT IS AVAILABLE. I HAD THE INTERIM REPAIR DONE ON MY VEHICLE. I NOTICED NOW THAT WHEN SEARCHING FOR RECALLS, IT SAYS THERE ARE NO ACTIVE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT ADDRESSED THE UNDERLYING DESIGN DEFECT, AND BECAUSE THERE IS NOT AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THE VEHICLE IT SEEMS THAT AT THIS TIME IT WILL NOT BE FIXED. PLEASE CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AND ENSURE THAT THEY ARE ADDRESSING THE NEEDED REDESIGN OF THE AIRBAG MODULE. THANK YOU
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-12-01
- VIN: WVWBA7AH1BV
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: THE CLOCK SPRING IN MY CAR HAS FAILED REQUIRING COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. THIS COMPLETE FAILURE COMES A SHORT 9 MONTHS AFTER THE INITIAL 'REPAIR' DONE FOLLOWING A VW RECALL ON THE PART- THEY SIMPLY PLACED A COVER OVER THE ORIGINAL CLOCK SPRING. THEY TELL ME THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PART, BECAUSE I HAD THE INITIAL SAFETY CHECK DONE AT THE TIME OF THE INITIAL RECALL AND THE PART WAS DEEMED FUNCTIONAL AT THAT POINT- EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE AWARE IT WOULD MOST LIKELY EVENTUALLY FAIL.

2011 Volkswagen Eos recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2011 Volkswagen Eos.
- Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2009-2014 Volkswagen CC, 2010-2014 Golf, 2010-2014 Eos, 2007-2010 Passat Sedan and Wagon, and 2012-2014 Passat vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator with an alternative inflator, free of charge. The recall began March 16, 2018. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69Q9. Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 16V-078.
- Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Volkswagen CC, and Passat, 2010-2013 Eos, 2011-2014 Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Tiguan, and 2012-2014 Jetta Sportwagen vehicles. In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag.
- Consequence: A loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag will prevent the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective cover over the steering wheel clock spring if the air bag light is off. If the airbag light is on and the steering wheel clock spring requires replacement, dealers will install a new steering wheel clock spring. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987.

This car is really fun to drive with its turbo engine that really gets up and goes. It's also very comfortable, making it perfect for long trips. However, after having it for a year, we found out the hard way that the engine is an oil burner after only 20k mileage. We just got it back from the dealer where they said that the oil consumption of one half quart per 1000 miles is acceptable according to Volks. I asked the dealership how I can make the 10,000 mile factory suggested oil change interval and they simply said that I cannot. For the price of this car and the supposed quality of Volks engineering, this is simply unacceptable. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with a negative impression of Volkswagens and I will not be purchasing one again.

This car is perfect for those baby boomers who are looking for a fun and exciting ride. It's a great choice for those who have spent their lives being practical and now want to enjoy something that's a little more adventurous. I personally think that this is the most enjoyable car I have ever owned, and it comes with the VW stamp of quality. I have driven it for 4000 miles and even took it on a 2500-mile trip to Florida and back, and it performed superbly. The trunk space was more than enough for my wife and me, with just one duffle bag and one regular bag. The car is very comfortable, and I had no issues with power when passing or keeping up with traffic. My grandkids love the car's unique design, and it always gets a lot of attention. Most people can't believe that it's a VW!

Reliable! Comfortable! Fun! Sexy! Well, it's so far the perfect car!!! Please continue, VW! This is my first VW!

I really missed the German feel of my previously owned Audis. However, the TT was too small and expensive, and I didn't want a soft top A4. When I test drove the EOS at the beginning of the summer, I also considered the Volvo C70 and a BMW 1 Series. In the end, the EOS won me over with its smooth turbo, comfortable ride, DSG transmission, and transformer-like hard top. I'm also getting great gas mileage, as high as 35 on the highway, and averaging 27 mpg while having a lot of fun. I have the LUX with 17

I bought this car used and I absolutely love it! It reminds me of my 2000 Mercedes SLK, which I adored. Although it's not quite the same sports car as the SLK, it's perfect for me now that I'm a bit older. One of the great things about this car is the small back seat, which is perfect for my two Scotties. Another advantage is that it's a SULEV, just like the SLK, which means I can drive it as an automatic or shift it for a bit of fun. On the highway, I get an impressive 31-32mpg at 70-75, although it's not quite as efficient on city streets (26-28MPH) and it requires premium gas. Overall, I'm thrilled with my purchase and would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable and fun ride!

I purchased my car in 2009 and have taken excellent care of it, ensuring all maintenance checks were done at required intervals. Despite a major problem with the manifold and fuel injection system in 2016, which was fully covered under the extended warranty issued by VW, I continued to love my car and intended to keep it well over 150,000 miles. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, the timing tensioner failed, causing the timing to jump and my engine to require repair or replacement. While my mechanic was furious, I decided to take the car to VW for repairs. Although the cost of repairs was high, I was confident in the quality of the car's body and believed it was worth the investment. While I was disappointed with the issues I faced, I remain confident in my decision to purchase a VW and believe that the company will continue to improve its customer care and address any concerns that arise.I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of VW/VOLVO due to the issue I experienced. Despite my efforts to seek information from Volkswagen and the dealership where I purchased the car, I was not provided with any helpful information or support. Even after selling the car for junk, I received a letter from VW informing me of a class action settlement that would reimburse the cost of repairs for those who had this problem and pay for future repairs. This lack of transparency and accountability from Volkswagen has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. As a result, I have lost faith in the company and will not be purchasing any Volkswagen products in the future.

The car is undeniably eye-catching, however, its reliability is a major concern. Unfortunately, I have had to have it towed three times in the past three months, which is quite disappointing. My family and I purchased two VW's on the same day, an Eos and a CC. Regrettably, the Eos has been an unpleasant experience, and it has led us to decide that it will be the last time we own a VW. We have experienced issues with the ignition, electrical system, and turbo, which is unacceptable.
Ansel Trantow 2024-11-24
As others have mentioned, the timing chain can stretch and cause significant damage to the engine, ultimately requiring replacement. Unfortunately, this happened to our beloved 2009 car after just over a year of ownership and right over 100,000 miles. The cost of replacing the engine is a hefty $6,000 US, and we still owe $4,000 to the bank. While we adore this fun, little car, we cannot justify the expense. Therefore, we would advise against purchasing this model.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2009 EOS. It's been a great car for me, with less than 80K miles and driven gently. I feel safe and comfortable inside this solid little car, and I absolutely love the hard-top convertible. However, I do have some concerns about potential future costs. Occasionally, a piece of the convertible retraction mechanism doesn't work properly, but I've found that a little nudge can fix it. I worry that someday it might fail completely, and I'll have to pay a fortune to replace what is essentially just a wire. Additionally, there have been some strange electronic issues, such as the CD player not working and the windows raising and lowering themselves when the A/C is on. It's quite distracting and not great for the car, as the windows might be in the closed position but the glass will be on the outside, making it more likely for the glass to break if the door is slammed and for water to leak in through the gap. Lastly, there is a known issue with the timing chain or timing chain tensioner, and there is a class action suit that will likely be settled soon. However, I'm worried that my car might fail outside of the window of opportunity to benefit from the suit. Even if I participate and get reimbursement from the suit, I'm concerned that I'll still have a large out-of-pocket expense. Thanks for listening!

After experiencing numerous issues with the electrical system, sensors, gas cap, ABS, braking, fuel pump, airbag, and other components, I decided to trade in my car for a different brand. Despite conducting extensive research prior to purchasing, the 2009 model proved to be a disappointment. As a long-time VW driver, it is regrettable that this will be my last. Thank you for your understanding.
