The Toyota Yaris (Japanese: トヨタ・ヤリス, Hepburn: Toyota Yarisu) is a supermini/subcompact car sold by Toyota since 1999, replacing the Starlet and Tercel.

Up to 2019, Toyota had used the Yaris nameplate on export versions of various Japanese-market models, with some markets receiving the same vehicles under the Toyota Echo name through 2005. Starting in 2020, the Yaris nameplate began to be used in Japan, which replaced the Vitz nameplate.

The Yaris nameplate has also been applied to other vehicles. From 1999 to 2005, the nameplate had been used for the Yaris Verso mini MPV sold in Europe, where it was known in Japan as the FunCargo. Since 2020, the nameplate has also been used for the subcompact crossover SUV offering called Yaris Cross. In North America, most Yaris sedan models sold from 2015 to 2020 and Yaris hatchbacks sold from 2019 until 2020 were restyled versions of the Mazda2, produced and developed by Mazda.

In 2020, Toyota introduced the GR Yaris, which is a three-door performance-oriented variant of the XP210 series Yaris using the Gazoo Racing branding. It is built as a homologation model for the FIA World Rally Championship.

The name "Yaris" is derived from "Charis", the singular form of Charites, the Greek goddesses of charm and beauty. As of March 2020, the Yaris has sold 8.71 million units worldwide.

  • Summary: I got new tires and took the car for an alignment. I am constantly having to slightly correct my steering wheel. One to three degrees to the left and right at any speed the entire time I am driving. It was setup for the diagnostic test and the technician came back in less than five minutes. To tell me that there is nothing wrong with my alignment and everything was at factory spec. So I told him to drive it and tell me that there is nothing wrong with my car. He came back looking shocked and said that was weird. Like driving on wet glass. So he started to ask me questions. My answers to the question were. I am the original owner, never been in an accident with the car or hit debris of any kind. Tires are brand new, no check engine or warning lights. Diagnostic scanner to the OBD port came back with no problems. Car had 25,000 miles on it at the time. I've been told it could be any of eight or nine problems or a combination of a few. Electric power steering, traction control, ABS, Tire pressure monitor, steering angle sensor, tie rod, ball joints, suspension. My question is, how does this happen with regular service and no warning detection system on board or service equipment finding anything ???

  • Summary: It was about 90+ degrees Fahrenheit on a Friday afternoon..(prior to this date my wife expressed concern that the car did not accelerate as quickly as she thought it should) we drove in to the parking area of the Mall...we were undecided where to park and stopped the car. We tried to restart the car but it would not start. It would try to crank but that was all. Since it was so hot we thought that the air conditioner might have drained the battery. We called the AAA and found that it was not the battery. He suggested that the TOYOTA DEALERSHIP was a few b locks away that we should have them do further testing....we wanted to at first go home but instead went to the dealership--the car failed to start at all in the doorway of the Service entrance..it would try to crank but that was all just a grinding sort of noise.......(We thought that TOYOTA would pay for our incidental expenses since the car was under warranty...so far we have received nothing but TOYOTA did pay for a car rental on the following Monday.....) The problem was a failed Fuel Pump as the service man pointed out the error message was for low pressure on fuel pump. This was serious if we were on the freeway or traveling home for some distance in remote areas..they obviously could be a collision or we would be stranded without any form of help..... The dealer explained the the fuel pump was replaced by an updated or modified model not the same one in the car...They kept the original pump.....

THE SOLUTION WAS THE KEY FOB. I INQUIRED HOW THEY KNEW IT WAS THE KEY FOB, BUT THEY DID NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER. FEBRUARY 2021 IT STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN..BUT HAS NOT OCCURRED AS OF MARCH 2021. THIS TIME IT BROUGHT UP OUR PHONES BUT STILL WOULDN'T CONNECT AND A MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE SCREEN SAYING "UNABLE TO CONNECT- UNKNOWN ERROR". AT THIS POINT I SAID FORGET IT, I'VE GOT TO GET TO WORK. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE BACK-UP CAMERA WASN'T WORKING. FIGURED I'VE ALREADY GOT AN APPOINTMENT WITH TOYOTA IN THE MORNING SO I'LL BRING THAT TO THEIR ATTENTION AS WELL. BEFORE I MADE IT OUT OF TOWN I STARTED SMELLING A FAINT BURNING WIRE SMELL AGAIN. I WAS SHOCKED SINCE THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW AND I HAD RECENTLY JUST PURCHASED THE CAR. SUDDENLY THE CAR LOCKED AND I HAD NO CONTROL OF IT. I INDICATED TO THE CAR IN BACK TO GO AROUND ME. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SINCE I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AND COASTED ACROSS THE STREET AND PARKED. THEN I CALLED ROAD SERVICE AND INFORMED THEM WHAT HAD OCCURRED. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE AND WOULD NEED TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE ON MONDAY. A TOW TRUCK ARRIVED ABOUT 1 HOUR LATER. THE GENTLEMAN GOT IN THE CAR AND NOW WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR BACK IN THE PARK POSITION (WHICH I WAS NOT ABLE TO DO EARLIER). HE WAS NOW ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT. I THEN GOT IN MY CAR DROVE AROUND WHILE THE TOW TRUCK WAITED. THEN I WENT HOME TERRIBLY SHAKEN UP AT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPPENED.

  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
  • Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Yaris, Yaris Hatchback, and Yaris Sedan vehicles. An impeller within the low-pressure fuel pump may crack and deform, potentially causing the fuel pump to fail.
  • Consequence: A fuel pump failure may cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the low-pressure fuel pump assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 30, 2021. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 21TB05 and 21TA05.

The load carrying capacity modification label may be incorrect. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
  • Consequence: An incorrect label may lead to unintentionally overloading the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: SET will notify owners and provide a corrected label for placement over the inaccurate label, free of charge. The recall began August 23, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. SET's number for this recall is SET19A.

The text on the load capacity label may become illegible. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
  • Consequence: If the driver cannot read the label, they may unknowingly overload the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: GST will notify owners, and dealers will provide corrected load carrying capacity modification labels, free of charge. The recall began May 24, 2019. Owners may contact GST customer service at 1-800-444-1074. GST's number for this recall is 19R1.

My friends who have ridden in it could not get over how silky smooth it rides and how quiet it is for an econobox car. However, after 10k miles, I have noticed some drawbacks. Although the seats look supportive, they are really lacking. If you are under 5'8Although the sound quality is great, it lacks the deep bass and high notes that most car systems can produce. Additionally, there are limited storage areas in the car, with only one small spot under the radio for your phone, wallet, etc. After driving 24,000 miles in eight months, I have come to the conclusion that I won't be keeping the car as long as I thought I would. Unfortunately, the seats are too small and I can't seem to find a consistently comfortable position. However, my wife and daughter, who are only 5'2

    I purchased my 2019 Yaris four months ago with only 42 miles on it. Unfortunately, after driving it for about 500 miles, I noticed that the car was pulling hard to one side and then suddenly to the other, making it difficult to stay in my lane. I took it back to Toyota, but they misdiagnosed the issue as an alignment problem. My husband and I attempted to take a trip to Utah, which was 158 miles away, but the car almost caused an accident. We stopped at another Toyota dealership, and after a three-hour inspection, they determined that everything seemed to be working correctly, but acknowledged that there was definitely something wrong with the car, which posed a safety issue. Although they wanted to investigate further, we were unable to stay in town long enough. We barely made it back home. I am hopeful that Toyota will repair my vehicle, but unfortunately, they seem to be dragging their feet on the issue, despite the fact that I have both a manufacturer warranty and an extended warranty. I am currently without a car and waiting to see what happens.

    I purchased a 2019 Toyota LE sedan in September 2019. Unfortunately, I've been dealing with some issues regarding scratches on both sides of the car. After a few weeks, the scratches were repaired, but the black door trim was scuffed in the process. The salesperson promised to call me to fix the tape scuff, but I haven't heard from them yet. A week later, while driving down the highway, I hit a dog that had been hit by another car. It was a sad and unfortunate incident, and it caused some damage to the car's splash guard and skid plate. I contacted my insurance company and the Toyota dealership, but was told that the repair would require welding the bolt back into the body. I decided not to make a claim and instead pushed the plate back into place. Recently, I bumped a curb and scratched the bottom of the front end and hit the rim. Overall, I love how my Yaris drives and handles, but I'm disappointed that I've had to spend so much money on repairs that Toyota should have completed during the build. The car sits too low to the ground and the parts used are not strong enough to prevent this kind of damage. If you're considering buying a 2018 to 2019 Toyota/Mazda/Scion sedan, just be aware that the undercarriage is not very durable. Despite these issues, I'm grateful for my extended warranty and will continue to enjoy driving my Yaris.

    I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with this car that I bought with high hopes for a great value. It's worth noting that this car is built by Mazda and is actually built on a Mazda 2 chassis in Mexico. The quality of materials inside the car is very good and it looks great on the outside with its alloy wheels and rear spoiler, giving it a classy look. The ride inside the car is very good for the subcompact division. The only issue I've had is a mild vibration just before coming to a complete stop after the car is warmed up, which is present every time just before the stop. I took the car to the dealership after a week of purchase and they looked at everything, but unfortunately the vibration is still present. They suggested that I ride it for a couple of thousand miles and come back or be back if it becomes more troublesome or pronounced. I hope this information is helpful to you!
