The Toyota Yaris (Japanese: トヨタ・ヤリス, Hepburn: Toyota Yarisu) is a supermini/subcompact car sold by Toyota since 1999, replacing the Starlet and Tercel.
Up to 2019, Toyota had used the Yaris nameplate on export versions of various Japanese-market models, with some markets receiving the same vehicles under the Toyota Echo name through 2005. Starting in 2020, the Yaris nameplate began to be used in Japan, which replaced the Vitz nameplate.
The Yaris nameplate has also been applied to other vehicles. From 1999 to 2005, the nameplate had been used for the Yaris Verso mini MPV sold in Europe, where it was known in Japan as the FunCargo. In North America, most Yaris sedan models sold from 2015 to 2020 and Yaris hatchbacks sold from 2019 until 2020 were restyled versions of the Mazda2, produced and developed by Mazda.
In 2020, Toyota introduced the GR Yaris, which is a three-door performance-oriented variant of the XP210 series Yaris using the Gazoo Racing branding. It is built as a homologation model for the FIA World Rally Championship.
The name "Yaris" is derived from "Charis", the singular form of Charites, the Greek goddesses of charm and beauty. As of March 2020, the Yaris has sold 8.71 million units worldwide.

- Summary: I bought a 2007 Toyota Yaris brand new. It's a one owner car with 216000 miles. 5 years ago, I noticed that the side skirt was rusty near the back wheel. Over time, they rusted out. One month ago, while pulling in at the gas station, I heard a crunch. I felt the drivers side of my car go down as well. Got out and drivers rear wheel was tilted in at the top. The passenger rear wheel was also leaning in at the top. The rear axle was rusted out on the welds. The car was about to crumple up in two. It looks to me like the car had a defect in which water somehow accumulated or ran down the back of that side skirt and rusted it, then the rear axle out. My little economical car is junked out. It may be one of the cheapest cars...well I'm a poor person. I worked my butt off to pay for that and I thought because it was a toyota that it would last. I was wrong. Thank God I only going 5mph. That could easily kill someone. Of course toyota killed all kinds of people a couple of years after I bought that yaris. I knew they were not to be trusted at that point. I thought I was going to keep my yaris forever. I guess I thought wrong.

- Summary: IN APPROXIMATELY MAY 2015 I REPLACED THE HUB ON THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL. AFTER THE ITEM WAS REPLACED AND ABS SENSOR REATTACHED I HAVE HAD THE ISSUE OF ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT ON CONTINUALLY ON THE DASH UPON STARTUP, THEY NEVER GO OFF!!! NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE LOST ABS SINCE THAT TIME. I HAVE HAD THE DIAGNOSTICS CHECKED AND THERE WERE THREE ABS RELAY SENSOR WARNING FAULTS, FRONT RIGHT, AND BOTH BACK WHEELS. SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE WIRING HARNESSES FOR THE THREE WHEELS. THE DIAGNOSTIC SHOWS NO ABS RELAY FAULTS. THE ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT STILL INCESSANTLY STAY LIT ON THE DASH. I HAVE ALSO TRIED TO RESET THE INTERNAL COMPUTER BY REMOVING THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL ON THE BATTERY. I AM IN THE MILITARY AND HAVE READ MANY ISSUES AND FAULTS REGARDING THIS ABS ISSUE, AND IT WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE FOR TOYOTA OR A MECHANIC TO TRY AND FIX THIS ISSUE, THAT I HAVE SEEN OCCURRING ON MANY TOYOTAS ACROSS THE USA. - Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Lexus' numbers for this recall are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.

During the manufacturing of the Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts.
- Consequence: If the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture that get into the switch may cause a short circuit and the switch assembly may overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. If abnormality is found, the PWMS circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. - Summary: Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006-2008 RAV4, 2006-2010 Yaris, 2008-2010 Highlander, and 2009-2010 Tacoma, Corolla, Corolla Matrix and General Motors Pontiac Vibe vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the steering column assembly contains electrical connections to the driver's airbag module housed in a spiral cable assembly, which includes a Flexible Flat Cable (FFC). Due to the shape and location of the FFC's retainer, the FFC could become damaged when the steering wheel is turned.
- Consequence: If the FFC is damaged, connectivity to the driver's air bag module could be lost and the air bag deactivated. The failure of the driver's air bag to deploy in the event of a crash that typically necessitates deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify the Toyota vehicle owners, and General Motors will notify the Pontiac Vibe owners. Toyota sent owners an interim notification letter in May 2014 to advise owners of the recall. Toyota will mail owners a second letter when remedy parts are available. General Motors sent Pontiac Vibe owners an Interim letter on June 20, 2014 notifying them that parts are currently unavailable. General Motors sent notices to the Pontiac Vibe owners on September 15, 2014, that a remedy is available. The recall began on October 27, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331. - Consequence: If the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. Great car! I've had it for 2 years now, bought it with 50k and it now has 71k. I haven't had a single problem with it, besides changing the oil and doing other basic maintenance. This car truly lives up to its legendary Toyota reliability.

I have a few gas guzzlers that are getting old and require constant repairs or $70 fill-ups twice a week. So, I decided to look for something more efficient. I came across an '07 Liftback with only 23k on the odometer. Although it only has AC, it's actually fun to drive and looks good. I plan on making a few minor modifications, such as installing some insulation under the carpet and doors to reduce noise levels. The doors sound a bit flimsy when you shut them, but it's not too bad. I might also add cruise control. The car is powerful enough, and I've been experimenting with different grades of gas to find the sweet spot. Running regular, I could hear just a slight tick, but running mid-grade has made the engine silky smooth. On average, I get 35 mpg.

I drove my Yaris, Barney, for five years. He was a very reliable car for me, and I only had to make one repair in the entire five years, which was the serpentine belt that cost me about 60 bucks. The fuel efficiency was great, and the oil was super easy to change yourself. Other repairs were easy as well. Although the car is basic and does not have a bunch of bells and whistles, it is cheap to drive and gets you where you need to go. I had no problems with it in the snow, and it drove really well in snowy weather. The backseat is very roomy for two people, with lots of leg space. The car is perfect for a small family. The AUX jack is a little finicky, but it is easy to replace yourself. The headlights are a little tricky to replace, but it is surprisingly simple to pull the front bumper partially off. I felt perfectly safe on the freeway in this car, and elsewhere. Overall, for the price and the cost of maintenance, this is a great car!Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I really love my Yaris! It has so much power and gets up to speed quickly on the freeway. Even though it makes a bit of noise, I actually enjoy it because it makes me feel like I'm in a race. I even gave it a nickname, 'Bullet', because it shoots out of nowhere. I'm so happy I bought it before more people realize how amazing it is!

My wife recently sold her standard cab Tacoma. After a few weeks of searching for a Scion tC, we decided to take a look at the Yaris. At first, I was a little hesitant as it appeared to be fairly small. However, after test driving it, we knew we wanted it. It's a fantastic car that not only gets great gas mileage but is also fun to drive and feels incredibly solid. I would rate it well above 10 if I could. Overall, it's a great car at a great price with excellent mileage!

I have been a loyal Toyota customer, but unfortunately, my recent experience has left me disappointed. I was involved in an accident with frontal impact, but the seatbelts did not engage. Despite reaching out to Toyota, I felt like I was given the runaround and they did not stand behind their product. Additionally, I have been experiencing a moisture leak in the interior, which the dealer has been unable to find after three visits. The airbags also did not deploy during the impact. The police provided an affidavit regarding the defective seatbelts, and I hope that any Yaris owner will have their seatbelts checked to ensure their safety. It is important for manufacturers to stand behind their products and prioritize the safety of their customers.
