2023 Toyota Venza problems
The Toyota Venza is a five-passenger mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Toyota primarily for the North American market, beginning with its introduction in 2008 and now in its second generation — with a hiatus for model years 2018–2019.
The first-generation Venza was based on the XV40 series Camry platform and marketed between 2008 and 2017 — and shared the platform with the AL10 series Lexus RX. The second-generation model is a rebadged Japanese-market XU80 series Harrier and has been sold since September 2020.
The name "Venza" is a mix of "Venture" and "Monza."

Common 2023 Toyota Venza problems
The Toyota Venza 2023 is a hybrid SUV that is known for its efficient powertrain, stylish design, and feature-packed cabin. However, there are a few common problems that owners have reported, which are detailed below.
- Buzzy engine: The Venza's hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and three electric motors, can be quite buzzy, especially when the engine is working hard. This can be distracting and uncomfortable for some drivers, especially on long trips.
- Small cargo area: The Venza's cargo area is relatively small compared to other mid-size SUVs, which can make it difficult to transport large items. This is especially true when the rear seats are in use, as they limit the available cargo space even further.
- Limited towing capacity: The Venza has a towing capacity of only 1,500 pounds, which is significantly less than many of its competitors. This can be a problem for those who need to tow boats, trailers, or other heavy items.
- Limited off-road capability: The Venza is not designed for off-road use, and its ground clearance is relatively low compared to other mid-size SUVs. This can make it difficult to navigate rough terrain or steep inclines, and it may not be suitable for those who live in areas with unpaved roads or who enjoy off-road adventures.
Overall, the Toyota Venza 2023 is a stylish and efficient hybrid SUV that is well-suited for commuting and urban driving. However, it may not be the best choice for those who need to transport large items, tow heavy loads, or venture off-road frequently.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-16
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: JTEAAAAH3PJ
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My wife owns this Toyota Venza. On October 9, 2024, I took the vehicle to the dealership for maintenance and all regular checkups passed. No sensor lights nor problem lights were on during the incident. On October 16, 2024 my wife was parking in a spot to pick up the mail in our community's mailbox. She pressed the brake and tried to park the vehicle when suddenly the motor accelerated over the parking lines on its own to a small hill continuously. My wife tried to press the brake multiple times with no success and the motor continued accelerating on its own. My wife turned the steering wheel to the right to avoid running into the hill or flipping the vehicle over. Once turned, the vehicle continued accelerating crossing over a neighborhood street and finally crashing into a neighbor's wall. Once it crashed the wall, all air bags were deployed and the vehicle rebounded back into the street where my wife was eventually able to shift it into parking. Once parked, the vehicle wouldn't start or move at all. Thankfully, there were no fatalities but my wife crashed into a wall and had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for the bruises in her legs and body from the air bag impact. Additionally, our community is gated and thankfully there is little traffic but this problem in a main road or highway could easily injure or kill people. We reported the accident to the local police and filed a report with them. We also notified insurance of the crash and have started a repair claim but the vehicle has not been inspected for any damages or problems. We have video recording of the incident which we will use for insurance and can provide as part of this complaint.

- VIN: JTEAAAAH4PJ
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: When the headlights are on Low, not High beam, there is a dark horizontal round area and vertical streak (shadow) in the illuminated area in front of the vehicle. The dark area looks like an a large dark basket ball. It is only the left headlight. This shadow area prevents full illumination of the roadway on the left side of the of the vehicle. This also is a distraction and causes the driver's eyes to drift to the dark areas and further degrades nighttime driving safety. Per Toyota Forum, this problem is across the board for the Toyota vehicles, not just mine. When the lights are on Low and you hold a paper in front of the left light, the dark streak is easily seen.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-27
- Number Of Injuries: 2
- Crash: 1
- VIN: JTEAAAAHXPJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Complete brake failure when exiting freeway resulted in crashing into a concrete barrier and guardrail at a high rate of speed before impacting another vehicle. Vehicle has an electronic emergency brake that could not be engaged. Vehicle could not be put in reverse or park to slow impact. There were three prior issues with the vehicle regarding brakes and acceleration. The car had less than 250 miles on it. Issue was reported to the dealer from where it was purchased after the collision. Vehicle is likely totaled pending an assessment by the insurance company. As the driver I had the choice of a direct impact with a string of cars stopped at the end of the off-ramp at a high rate of speed or hitting the barrier wall to slow my momentum. I chose the barrier wall to reduce the risk of the collision upon others.

I'm glad to hear that you're getting an average of 40mpg, which is a significant improvement from your previous 22mpg Murano. It's great to know that the car drives smoothly and handles well, without the usual hybrid brakes.
-
I really like everything about this car! From the heads up speed limit display to the heated steering wheel and seats, it's all fantastic. The moon roof is also really nice and big. Plus, the Limited model has both luxury and great gas mileage.
-
Great job on your performance and overall mileage!
-
It sounds like the newer model is a bit less spacious than your 2013, with fewer pockets for miscellaneous items and a less roomy rear compartment. However, it's great to hear that the gas mileage is much better! Overall, I would rate it as fair. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
-
I'm so glad to hear that you love it! The limited version seems to have all the features you were looking for. It's a shame that auto start requires an additional payment though.

I recently purchased over two dozen new Toyota vehicles, but unfortunately, my experience with the 2023 Venza Limited was not great. Despite its attractive exterior, the interior design was poorly executed, with limited space and no convenient storage options. Additionally, the start button was illogically placed, making it difficult to use. The 12.3” display was also too large and distracting. However, the biggest issue was the design flaw caused by the deep 10” square hole in the dash for the HUD display. The windshield was highly reflective, making it difficult to see the road due to the reflection of the bezel around the deep cutout for the HUD. Although Toyota Customer Service acknowledged the issue, they were unable to offer a solution. While I could have overlooked the poor ergonomics, the impaired view of the road was a deal-breaker for me and my wife. I would advise potential buyers to avoid the Limited model or any other Toyota model with a similar HUD design. It is surprising that such a bad design could be approved by any design engineer. If you are considering purchasing a Toyota model with a HUD display, I recommend test driving it during the day with the sun in front or to the side of you to ensure that you can see clearly.

So far, the Venza has been mechanically reliable with no major issues. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. The road noise can be a bit loud and the storage space could be better designed. Unfortunately, the infotainment system has been a major disappointment. While no system is perfect, this one has left me feeling dissatisfied with Toyota. Even when connected directly with a cable, the android auto can be finicky. The mapping software is outdated and the rural maps are not up to par. The dynamic navigation feature is not very accurate, even with updated road conditions. Additionally, the app lacks some of the services offered by other manufacturers and can be slow and buggy. It's frustrating that the VIN of our vehicles is not recognized without calling customer service. Speaking of customer service, they could improve their communication and responsiveness. Overall, I hope Toyota can address these issues in the future, as I would like to continue supporting the brand.

The Venza caught our eye on the lot with its many posh features, including a dimmable glass roof, heads up display, and heated and cooled seats, among many other things. Although the infotainment system seemed a bit difficult at first, I thought I could get used to it. However, after a few months, I found the vague floaty ride to be a bit boring. While the panoramic roof is lovely, the dimming feature seems a bit pointless after a few months. Most of all, I found the infotainment system to be a bit illogical, especially since there are no physical buttons or dials. The car features a seemingly cool 360 camera that activates each time you come to a stop. Although the camera overtakes the entire screen and cancels any and all functions that the driver or passenger may have been navigating at the time, it is still a lovely feature most of the time. However, there are times when it cancels whatever action you were navigating on the screen, which can be a bit frustrating. Overall, the Venza has a lot to like, but it can be a bit mind-numbing to drive.

My first Venza was a 2011 and I loved it. My second Venza was a 2015 and I loved it too. In fact, it saved my life and limbs during a total crash in 2016. My 3rd one is the 2022 XLE AWD hybrid which I purchased in December 2022. While I appreciate the safety features and decent MPG, I have some concerns about the vehicle. The poor headroom is my biggest issue. I frequently hit my head on the driver's side handle above the door and the height of the driver side window is so low that I can't comfortably do transactions at an ATM from the car, and I'm only 5'4Accessing and cleaning the area between the seats is difficult or next to impossible. The seating is comfortable but cramped, making it challenging to reach the seat controls on the driver's side. Even without being obese, it's almost impossible to fit an arm between the seat and the door, especially when wearing a winter coat. Toyota seems to have made CUVs/SUVs smaller, which is disappointing. Although the ride is great, these changes have cost Toyota points. The clear plastic coating on the front of the car and side mirrors has warped in less than a year, and it has been a frustrating experience trying to get Toyota to determine if it's covered under warranty. While I will always love Toyota, this new and not-so-improved Venza is making me reconsider my loyalty.
