Toyota Venza problems
The Toyota Venza is a five-passenger mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Toyota primarily for the North American market, beginning with its introduction in 2008 and now in its second generation — with a hiatus for model years 2018–2019.
The first-generation Venza was based on the XV40 series Camry platform and marketed between 2008 and 2017 — and shared the platform with the AL10 series Lexus RX. The second-generation model is a rebadged Japanese-market XU80 series Harrier and has been sold since September 2020.
The name "Venza" is a mix of "Venture" and "Monza."

The Toyota Venza Reliability Rating is 4.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 3rd out of 26 for midsize SUVs. The average annual repair cost is $444 which means it has excellent ownership costs. Repairs are less severe than average, and the frequency of these issues is average, so major repairs are not common for the Venza.
What are the issues with Venza?
2 Common Toyota Venza Problems
- Musty and Moldy A/C. Toyota air conditioners smell like mold in numerous vehicles. ...
- Rodents Chew Soy-Coated Wires. Somewhere in the mid-2000's there was an industry-wide push by automakers to replace plastic and glass-based wiring insulation with a more eco-friendly soy-based coating.
Why is the Toyota Venza not popular?
The current Venza is often critiqued for its poor cargo capacity compared to competitors, lacking SUV features/options like roof rails or any usable towing capability, but it also offers a claimed best-in-class EPA efficiency rating of 39 MPG combined.
What is the disadvantage of Venza?
Minimal Cargo Capacity
Unfortunately, there isn't too much cargo capacity in the Toyota Venza. It's much smaller than most of the competitors in its class, which proves to be a problem. You'll only find 28.8 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seat.

- Summary: My wife owns this Toyota Venza. On October 9, 2024, I took the vehicle to the dealership for maintenance and all regular checkups passed. No sensor lights nor problem lights were on during the incident. On October 16, 2024 my wife was parking in a spot to pick up the mail in our community's mailbox. She pressed the brake and tried to park the vehicle when suddenly the motor accelerated over the parking lines on its own to a small hill continuously. My wife tried to press the brake multiple times with no success and the motor continued accelerating on its own. My wife turned the steering wheel to the right to avoid running into the hill or flipping the vehicle over. Once turned, the vehicle continued accelerating crossing over a neighborhood street and finally crashing into a neighbor's wall. Once it crashed the wall, all air bags were deployed and the vehicle rebounded back into the street where my wife was eventually able to shift it into parking. Once parked, the vehicle wouldn't start or move at all. Thankfully, there were no fatalities but my wife crashed into a wall and had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for the bruises in her legs and body from the air bag impact. Additionally, our community is gated and thankfully there is little traffic but this problem in a main road or highway could easily injure or kill people. We reported the accident to the local police and filed a report with them. We also notified insurance of the crash and have started a repair claim but the vehicle has not been inspected for any damages or problems. We have video recording of the incident which we will use for insurance and can provide as part of this complaint.

This is a fantastic crossover! While it may not be designed for off-road driving, it's perfect for a smooth and comfortable ride. I test drove both the Rav4 and Venza, but ultimately chose the Venza for its sedan-like feel and great fuel economy. I'm able to get an impressive 45-47 MPG, and I know how to maximize it thanks to my previous experience owning a Prius. Even the LE trim comes with so many standard features that I didn't feel the need to upgrade. The only downside is the head space, which may be an issue for those over 6' tall, especially since the passenger seat isn't height adjustable. Overall, the Venza is the perfect replacement for my Prius, which was often in blind spots on the interstate. I'm thrilled with my choice and highly recommend it!

Yes, it's a Toyota and a crossover, but we've had two and they have been some of the best cars we've ever owned. The Venza has an impressive amount of space and can fit a 77” sofa, a full-size in-ground basketball hoop, and even a very heavy 6-foot-long credenza (buffet table) in the trunk with the seats down (at different times)!!!! While it may not be the fastest car out there, it is reliable and durable. It's a unique and enjoyable car to own, and we highly recommend it. We have never had any issues with our Venza!

I recently purchased a Venza LE and I'm really happy with it! While I was initially looking for a Hybrid compact SUV and test drove the RAV4 hybrid, I found that it had engine noise similar to my Prius. Additionally, the electric hum was quite noticeable when the car runs on pure EV. I wasn't fully convinced to pay the full price of the RAV4 XLE hybrid with convenience and all-weather packages, as it didn't fit my budget. However, I was lucky enough to find a slightly-used Venza with only 3K miles on it (sold as new by the dealer) and negotiated a whopping 10% off the dealer's invoice price, which came below the MSRP of the RAV4 Hybrid LE. Here are some of the reasons why I'm happy with my purchase: 1) The ride is very quiet and the interior is up-class and stylish. 2) The push-button interface is available in the LE model, unlike the XLE and Limited. 3) The LE model comes with standard features such as remote start, wireless phone charger, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated mirrors, electronic tilt-telescopic steering wheel, electronic driver-seat controls, and auto rear hatch lift-gate. 4) The fit and finish are superb, as it is assembled in Japan. However, there are some negatives too: 1) The trunk cargo capacity is not as good as the RAV4, which is a compromise for me. 2) The car looks small, but it is not. 3) The visibility is not as great as the RAV4, but with all the sensors around the car, it's still easy to drive. In my opinion, the RAV4 hybrid is not worth the price considering its standard features and price point. It's insane! Premium SUVs like the CRV, Mazda CX5, or new Rogue are much better options. The Venza, on the other hand, is a great option for those looking for a compact SUV with a higher price tag. Consider it as a redesigned next-generation RAV4 hybrid. Keep the Venza LE as an option if you are shopping for a RAV4 hybrid for better value. There is a price overlap compared to RAV4 LE/XLE and it's easy to negotiate!I'll continue to update this review as my car ages.

Congratulations on your new car! It's great to hear that you've already hit 1,000.00 miles on your 2014 Venza XLE FWD V6 in just 20 days. The 3.5 L V6 engine is definitely impressive, with its power and relatively quiet operation, and it works seamlessly with the 6-speed automatic transmission. You're already getting just over 20 mpg in mostly city driving, which is fantastic. You've even observed up to 30 mpg on the computer during short highway trips at 60 and 70 mph, and I'm sure these figures will improve even further as the engine gets fully broken in. While the ride on rough pavement can be a bit jarring, the roomy cabin is definitely a plus. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Toyota car. I bought it used from the Toyota dealer back in 2016 with only 17,000 miles on it. Since then, it's been our trusty second car that we use to run around town and take occasional trips with. I'm happy to report that we've had no major issues with it, just regular maintenance. It's got plenty of room for all our trips and has a lot of power under the hood. We usually get around 21 mpg, which is great. I'm a pretty tall guy at 6'7

I recently purchased a brand new Venza 4cyl AWD and have noticed some issues with the engine. Every time I put it in drive and go, I hear knocking sounds. While the car looks great and has some fancy features, I have come to realize that it may have some quality problems. I have also noticed some other issues such as a rattling noise from the driver window when it's halfway down and a ticking noise from the steering wheel when turning. As a long-time Toyota owner, I was initially excited about this purchase, but now I'm a bit concerned. I hope to find a solution to these issues soon.

In the past year and a half, I have experienced multiple issues with my vehicle, resulting in 14 separate dealership visits. These issues include problems with the battery, rattles and build quality, transmission, heated seats, stability control, and remote keyless system. While Toyota service can be inconsistent, I have confidence in their ability to resolve these issues. It is worth noting that I am not the only Venza owner who has experienced problems, as I have met several others at my dealership. However, I still believe in Toyota's overall quality, as my 2000 4Runner with over 200,000 miles feels better built than my current vehicle.

We recently decided to replace our hybrid Avalon with an SUV and opted to stick with Toyota since we had no issues with our previous vehicle or the brand itself. In August, we purchased the Venza. Unfortunately, we only received one key FOB as the other was on back order. This has been inconvenient for us as two people use the vehicle and we have no backup in case something happens to the one FOB. Two months later, the multi-media system stopped working entirely. The screen goes black every few minutes and then restarts, rendering it unusable. The dealer attempted a hard restart, but it didn't work, and they had to order a replacement part, which is also on back order with Toyota. We are still waiting for a fully functioning brand new vehicle and are reluctant to take road trips in this condition. Although we are extremely disappointed and upset with Toyota for this unacceptable situation, we must say that the Venza is very comfortable and quiet. If we had the second key FOB and a fully functional multi-media system, we would be very happy with the vehicle and Toyota.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2009 Venza. While I love the car, I have been experiencing some issues with the VSC lights coming on. It seems that many others are experiencing the same thing. Unfortunately, the dealers don't seem to have a fix for this issue, but I understand that they are in the business of making money. I believe that this is an issue that Toyota is aware of, and I would like to encourage everyone to visit Toyota's website to share their concerns and demand a recall. It's important that we address this issue before it escalates any further. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Toyota should have made some easy changes to improve this car. Despite being less than 2 years old, a significant number of people have complained about the tire size, cost, and fast wear. It is concerning that neither Walmart nor Costco carry a tire this size, and local shops are charging $1,250 to replace all 4 tires, which wear out very quickly. This issue needs to be addressed promptly by Toyota.
