I BROUGHT MY CAR IN DURING THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED WINDOW TO GET THIS LOOKED AT ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS ASYMPTOMATIC DESPITE ME EXPLAINING THAT IT WAS DRINKING EXCESSIVE OIL. IF MY CAR ENGINE IS RUINED BECAUSE OF THIS TOYOTA WILL BE PAYING FOR MY NEW MOTOR OR ONE OF THEIR 2 DEALERSHIPS THAT KEPT INSISTING I WAS CRAZY WILL BE PAYING FOR THAT NEW MOTOR. I'VE HAD THE CAR SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW WITH ALL THE SERVICE RECORDS TO PROVE THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-05-16
  • VIN: JTKDE177070
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: THE ENGINE IN THIS CAR WHICH IS THE 2AZ-FE HAS DEFECTIVE PISTON RINGS WHICH CAUSES THE ENGINE TO BURN AN INSANELY AMOUNT OF OIL. I LITERALLY HAVE TO ADD AT LEAST A QUART OF OIL A WEEK AND I BEEN DOING SO TWO YEARS ALREADY. I BELIEVE THAT'S NOT NORMAL AT ALL. CONTACTED TOYOTA TO NOTIFY THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE, AND CLAIMED THAT 'VEHICLE WAS OUT OF THE 10 YEAR OR 150,000 MILE WARRANTY'. I'M SO DISAPPOINTED AT TOYOTA FOR THAT. THEY ALSO HAD A PERIOD IN WHICH YOU COULD TAKE YOUR VEHICLE, BUT FAILED TO NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS.

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-01-10
  • VIN: JTKDE177270
  • Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,WHEELS
  • Summary: MY AIR BAGS IN MY SEATS DON'T WORK AT ALL. NEITHER DOES MY AIR BAG IN MY WHEEL. THE TIRES SHAKES WHEN I DRIVE PAST 60 AND THE RIMS ARE NOT SAFE. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO MY CHILD WHAT IF SHE GETS IN A ACCIDENT. THE SEAT BELT DOES NOT BUCKLE AND SEAT WILL NOT GO BACK. 95000 MILES AND THIS IS REDICULIOUS.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-01-25
  • VIN: JTKDE177670
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: MY TRUNK RELEASE BROKE RECENTLY (1/25/19) AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE TRUNK. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF DEFECTIVE PART AND HAD OFFERED A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT ON THE TRUNK RELEASE BUT IT EXPIRED IN 2015. I RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION. CALLED TOYOTA TODAY AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME, EITHER. WAS GIVEN CASE #1902062093. IF PART WAS DEFECTIVE AND THEY WERE AWARE OF IT I SHOULDN'T BE EXPECTED TO PAY $666.90 FOR REPLACEMENT JUST BECAUSE MY TRUNK RELEASE DIDN'T BREAK SOONER. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD ISSUES WITH THE TRUNK AS IT DIDN'T OPEN CONSISTENTLY. IF I HAD RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FROM TOYOTA IN 2013 AS THIS WAS APPARENTLY WHEN NOTICES WERE SENT OUT, I CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE HAD IT REPLACED. IF TOYOTA IS AWARE OF A DEFECTIVE PART, NO TIME LIMIT SHOULD EXIST TO HAVE IT REPLACED, ESPECIALLY IF THE CURRENT OWNER IS ALSO THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THE TRUNK RELEASE WAS DANGLING BY THE WIRES, AND IS BEING HELD IN PLACE WITH SEVERAL INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH MAGNETS. OBVIOUSLY I AM UNABLE TO ACCESS THE TRUNK UNTIL I SHELL OUT AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF CASH TO FIX IT. I REALIZE THIS ISSUE ISN'T AS SERIOUS AS BRAKES, TIRES, ETC BUT I FEEL TOYOTA HAS AN OBLIGATION TO MAKE GOOD ON DEFECTIVE PARTS. THE TRUNK RELEASE IS A PLASTIC PART ON AN OTHERWISE ALL METAL CAR WHICH MAKES NO SENSE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY ON MAY 12, 2017, I HAD THE CAR TOWED FROM DALLAS TO OUR MECHANIC SHOP IN FORT WORTH. THE MECHANIC CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE HAS CEASED. THE COST TO REPLACE THE ENGINE INCLUDING THE LABOR IS $3300. I WAS HAVING THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES AND I WAS ALSO ADDING OIL EVERY 2 WEEKS. THIS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION HAS RESULTED IN A TOTAL ENGINE LOSS.

I HAVE ALMOST BLOWN MY ENGINE NUMEROUS TIMES. I HAVE HAD TO PULL INTO GAS STATIONS TO PUT OIL IN JUST TO MAKE IT HOME. TOYOTA IS FULLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS DONE NOTHING FOR THE CONSUMERS. THIS WILL BE A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX IF WE EVERY FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. I'VE ALREADY SPENT $160 AND THE NUMEROUS OIL CHANGES.

  • Summary: I HAVE DRIVEN 1270 MILE SINCE MY LAST OIL CHANGE. MY OIL LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON AND STAY ON WHEN THE OIL IS LOW OR EMPTY. IT WILL GIVE A QUICK FLASH. I COULD HAVE BLOWN MY ENGINE BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW! THE LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON. IT HAS BEEN CHECKED FOR LEAKS AND THERE ARE NONE. IT HAS BEEN MADE CLEAR THAT I HAVE TO DO AN OIL CHANGE EVER 1200 MILES NOT THE NORMAL 3000. THIS ISSUE IS UNSAFE BECAUSE I CAN BE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING BLOW MY ENGINE. *TR

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-04-16
  • VIN: JTKDE167470
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL REQUIRED MULTIPLE VEHICLES INCLUDING MY 2007 SCION TC ARE PLAGUED THE MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH IS CAUSING VEHICLES TO CONSUME EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. TOYOTA ANNOUNCED AN "ENHANCED WARRANTY" TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM BUT THERE IS LITTLE TO NO PROGRESS FOR THE MAJORITY OF OWNERS BECAUSE THEY ARE DELAYING THE RELEASE OF PARTS FOR REPAIR. I SPOKE TO MULTIPLE SERVICE ADVISERS AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS WHO ALL SAID TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE THE UPFRONT CHARGE TO REPAIR ALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. DEALER CONFIRMED THAT TOYOTA ONLY SENDS ENOUGH PARTS TO REPAIR 2-3 VEHICLES PER WEEK. MY VEHICLE WAS CONFIRMED TO BE CONSUMING EXCESS AMOUNTS OF OIL BY THE TOYOTA DEALER ON 4/16/2016 AND I WAS GIVEN A REPAIR DATE OF 3/27/2017. TOYOTA IS INTENTIONALLY DELAYING THE REPAIRS IN AN ATTEMPT TO ALLOW VEHICLES TO BECOME NON-OPERATIONAL BEFORE REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED. THIS IS EGREGIOUS, ARROGANT, AND UNETHICAL. IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR ANY VEHICLE TO BURN THROUGH 2 QUARTS OF OIL IN LESS THAN 1000 MILES. THEY ARE CREATING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION FOR ANYONE OPERATING THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. IF MY ENGINE SEIZES AS A RESULT OF RUNNING OUT OF OIL, AN ACCIDENT IS MORE PROBABLE. I AM CONFIDANT MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS HAVE RESULTED FROM TOYOTA ENGINES SEIZING DUE TO RUNNING OUT OF OIL. SURELY MYSELF OR MY CHILD COULD BE INJURED OR SUFFER HEAT STROKE IF I WERE TO RUN OUT OF OIL WITHOUT ACCESS TO ASSISTANCE FOR MULTIPLE HOURS IN 110 DEGREE WEATHER. THIS IS DANGEROUS, PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL.

Negative 2007 Scion Tc car reviews

  1. Mathias Keebler 2025-09-12

I really wanted to like this car, but I can't help feeling a bit disappointed. Although there's nothing actually wrong with it, I've come to realize that it's just a pretty standard economy car. One of the main issues I've encountered is that it's not very fun to drive. While it does have good power for a car in its price range, the suspension is too soft and it leans too much in corners. Additionally, it feels isolated from the road, more like a sedan than a sports coupe. Personally, I prefer a car with a harder, more solid suspension that inspires confidence in corners and allows me to feel the road. If only this car had the Mazda3's suspension, it would be perfect for the price.

  2. Lorenz Ledner 2025-09-08

After reading most of these reviews, I can't help but wonder what everyone else was driving before they bought a tC. If they think this car is fun to drive and handles well, they must have been driving an SUV or a minivan previously. While it handles well compared to other vehicles in its class, it still has some body roll and the suspension makes it feel like you're driving a large sedan. It may not be the most exciting car to drive, but it's still a great option for those looking for a reliable and practical sport coupe. Overall, the tC is a solid choice for anyone in the market for a new car.

  3. Damien Donnelly 2025-08-28

As a middle-aged woman who did extensive research, I fell in love with the tC. It's hard to beat the price for what you get. Unfortunately, my experience with it was not great. I had 36,000 highway miles on it when I totaled it. Even though the roads were dry and I was going at a moderate speed, it was impossible to correct and crumpled like a plastic cup. The hatchback shattered after the impact. Luckily, I was unhurt, but I was surprised at how poorly it handled under diverse situations that could have been easily corrected in my old Nissan. I ended up with compression fractures, but it could have been worse, especially if it had rolled. As a result, I have decided that my next car will not be a tC.

  4. Finn Gleason 2025-07-22

I used to drive 90 miles round trip for work and got 32 mpg. Now that I do more city driving, I get about 25 mpg. Despite having 92K on the odometer, the car still has lots of power and a quiet engine. It's a great car on smooth roads, but can be a bit choppy on bumpy ones. There's plenty of leg room, even in the back seat, but head room is a bit tight in the back. It's really fun to drive and the sound system is great. Overall, it's a good car for the price.

  5. Pedro Streich 2025-07-10

I recently purchased a Toyota SCION TC for my daughter and opted not to purchase an extended warranty due to the 60,000 mile 5-year warranty that came with the vehicle. Unfortunately, the car started experiencing problems with a leak into the passenger compartment. After two visits, the issue was finally resolved. However, the blower motor later failed and by this time, the car had exceeded the 60,000 miles covered under the warranty. To make matters worse, the engine failed at 73,000 miles. When I contacted Toyota, they offered to reimburse me for $500.00, which is far less than the cost of a new engine. While I appreciate their offer, I believe there could have been a compromise to this situation. Thank you for your attention.

Positive 2007 Scion Tc car reviews

  1. Jamal Rohan 2025-10-23

I bought my first car, a TC with 100k miles on it, and I absolutely loved it! Although I had to replace a shock, ball bearings, and brakes which cost me around $2000 in 8 months, it was worth it. The car never had any major mechanical issues, it just got old. It was super fun to drive and I could park it diagonally and still fit into a parking spot with no problem. The car turns on a dime, accelerates well and has no trouble at highway speed. It has tons of room for carrying things too. The back seats fold down so I always had golf clubs, a big bag with 4 basketballs, stuff for school, and still had plenty of room. I also found out that it's a very safe car, unfortunately the hard way. I got into a head-on crash when someone pulled out in front of me going 25-30. The front end got crushed and the car was totaled, but the airbags went off, seat belt locked up and I came out with nothing but a slightly sore neck. I was absolutely impressed with how well it kept me safe and I would highly recommend it to everyone!

  2. Chesley Smith 2025-10-16

I bought my tC new in 2007 with a manual transmission. It has been an outstanding vehicle, despite the maddening oil consumption and a funky hatch release. The original clutch is still going strong and I still get about 27 mpg. The interior is nice and roomy, with surprisingly good rear passenger room and good legroom. With the rear seats down, I can even put my bicycle in the car and even a 7+ ft fiddle leaf fig (wrapped of course) with the hatch closed. The moonroof has never leaked and is very nice. For those of you that complained about the rattle of the moonroof, here’s the secret - once it is open, hit the open button again and it locks into another position and quiets the rattle. The hatchback latch release can be somewhat troubling, but I have found that locking and unlocking again usually does the trick. The manual transmission has good pickup and is very responsive when you need to pass quickly. The ride is smooth, although there is a bit of road noise at 80-85 mph. The seats are comfy and the audio is good. I have never had an issue with air or heat and the cruise control is still working like new. The car isn't great starting from a stop in snowy or icy conditions due to the low profile tires, but it holds its own once you get started. If the car was still available, I would buy another. I truly love the car and it is of very good quality, especially for a car that was less than $20,000.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my tC that I bought used with 120,000 miles in March of 2013. I thought it would be helpful to write a review about my experience with a used one. Overall, I had a great time with the car and didn't have any issues for the first 10,000 miles. However, my engine did fail at 131,000 miles. While I understand that it was a used car, I was still a bit surprised since it had a Toyota engine. Nonetheless, I still loved having the car and it was always a dream of mine to own one. The acceleration was pretty awesome (I even smoked my roommate's Volks Jetta turbo) and the handling was good, even though it had been around the block. The sunroof was amazing, although like others, I did have some issues with rattling. If you're considering buying a used one, I would suggest getting it mechanically checked before making the purchase. Thanks for reading!

Hello there! I wanted to share my thoughts on this car with you. I understand that some people have concerns about the mileage, but I think it's important to keep in mind that this car has a 2.4L engine, which is larger than the 1.8L engine found in most Corollas. Additionally, I believe that some of the complaints about mileage may be due to driving habits. As for rattles, it's true that some compact cars may have more of them, but I think it's important to focus on the many great features of this car. For example, it has a fantastic sound system, stunning wheels, and a sleek design. It's also surprisingly spacious and comfortable, with 60 cubic feet of space when the rear seats are folded down. Overall, I think this car is a great choice for anyone looking for a practical and sporty vehicle. Thank you for reading my thoughts on this car!

I've had this car for 13 years since I bought it brand new. It has taken me everywhere I've needed and wanted to go, from off-road adventures to blizzards and flood waters. I'm happy to say that I've never had any major problems with it. As long as you keep up with the daily wear and tear, this car will treat you well! Just remember not to use lower than 89 gas or it won't perform as well as it should. Make sure to read the manual fully.
