infiniti logo

The Infiniti Q50 is a compact executive car manufactured by Nissan for its luxury brand, Infiniti. Replacing the G/Q40 sedan, it debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in North America in the third quarter 2013 and in Europe in fourth quarter 2013. It is the export model of the Japanese domestic market's V37 Nissan Skyline.

The design of the Q50 continues to follow the designs first shown by the 2009 Infiniti Essence concept and the production 2011 Infiniti M. The Q50 is also the first instance of a hybrid model in Infiniti's entry-level model but was later removed for the 2019 model year.

First generation

Q50 sedan (2013–)

The design was based on Infiniti Essence (crescent-cut C-pillar, deep body section, asymmetrical cabin layout, interior finishes) and Infiniti Etherea (headlights, three-dimensional double-arch grille, interior finishes). The production Q50 design was frozen in June 2011, after being designed by Joel Baek under Shiro Nakamura.

The Q50 sedan was unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, followed by the 2013 Canadian International AutoShow, 2013 Geneva Motor Show (with Hybrid and 2.2d), 2013 Dubai International Motor Show, Auto Guangzhou Motor Show in China (with 2.0-liter (214PS) turbocharged engine from Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz)), and Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong.

Early US and Canada models include 3.7-liter V6 (333PS), 3.5-liter Hybrid (364 PS), each in a choice of rear-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and in a selection of trim levels, including Sport models.

US models went on sale in August 2013.

Early Canadian models include 3.7-liter V6 (Q50 RWD, Q50 Sport RWD, Q50 Premium AWD, Q50 Premium AWD Navi, Q50 Premium AWD Navi and Deluxe Touring and Tech, Q50 Sport AWD, Q50 Sport AWD Deluxe Touring and Tech) and 3.5-liter Hybrid (Q50 Hybrid Premium RWD, Q50 Hybrid Premium AWD, Q50 Hybrid Sport AWD).

The early European models included 2.2d and hybrid. Infiniti's 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model was added in 2014.

In China the 2014 Q50 3.7L was sold as an imported vehicle until production in China could begin. The 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model and the Q50 Hybrid also joined the line up.

Middle East models was set to go on sale in spring 2014 as 2014 model year vehicles. Early models include 3.7-liter V6 and 3.5-liter Hybrid, both in rear-wheel drive.

Australian models went on sale in February 2014, launching with the 2.2d diesel and 3.5 gasoline hybrid models.

Hong Kong models went on sale as 2014 model year vehicles.

STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-01-01
  • VIN: JN1FV7AR6KM
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
  • Summary: This car has been drifting to the right since bought causing premature tire wear which has now been 5 sets of tires in 36k miles. The front right tire always seems to blow out. Alignment has always been knocked out in within weeks. Several independent shops point to defective bushings while infiniti doesn't see the issue. This same issue was recalled for the 2016 models. I've replaced the knuckle and lower control arm and now stays aligned but seems to causing premature tire wear and blowing the right front tire. I cant get more than 10k miles out of a set of tires and constant fighting with the car drifting to the right. I have several more documents. The consumer stated the reason for the drifting, the tire tears, and alignment knocking was due to a defective rack and pinion. The consumer stated that the dealerships are refusing to replace the defective part on the vehicle under the warranty that is now expired. Paying for alignments and tire replacements is a waste of money considering the root of the issue has not been fixed yet. The consumer stated that due to the multiple issues, they will not be able to do a private sell of the vehicle. The only option would be to sell it to the dealer.

SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-01-01
  • VIN: JN1EV7AP2KM
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: Passenger front seat shakes/vibrates even at lower speeds and it makes lots of noise. Tires were checked and has nothing to do with tires. I actually googled issue on my model and there are tons of posts with this exact issue. I have an appointment for dealership to look at issue in the next couple of weeks. My concern is that other consumers who have had issue that I’ve read about online had not had the problem rendered. It was not considered part of warranty. I’m my opinion, it should because it’s an obvious defect. I should not have to pay out of pocket to have this corrected if it’s defective.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-01-12
  • VIN: JN1EV7AP9KM
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I have 3 issues with the car. The braking issue presented itself last in time but is most important relative to safety. Around mid January 2022, my car, while I was driving, and without any notice, began to decelerate/brake for no reason. My car is equipped with front driver assist but there were no cars, hazards, in front of me. It was a clear, dry day and the car was warm. It was momentary and fortunately no one was behind me. The car beeped, but there was no other warning. The second time this same event happened, however, the accelerator pushed back against my foot. Again, no one was in front of me and it was a clear, dry day. The third time this happened, the car beeped and what I know now is the cruise control indicator, appeared on the display. I did not touch the cruise control to activate. The other two issues were that both display screens were blacking out and rebooting while driving, for no apparent reason. The other issue is with the Sirius XM satellite, which is not functioning properly. I have informed Sirius XM of this issue as well. Given all of these issues, possibly all electrical, I contacted my local Infiniti dealer to assess, with special concern for the random braking issue. The car was assessed and they could not duplicate any problems. They mentioned that perhaps if they had more time they may be able to duplicate the problems. The following Monday, I took the car to the dealership and left it overnight for assessment. I was called the next day and advised that they could not duplicate the issues. The dealership returned the car without making any repairs, diagnoses, or being to able to duplicate problems. Since the car has been returned to me, it has continued to have problems. The braking issue has happened twice since, with one time involving the accelerator pushing back. The screen has blacked out and gone into parking mode, while I was driving. I have contacted Infiniti corporate to advise of problems.

2019 Infiniti Q50 recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2019 Infiniti Q50.

2019-09-12
  • Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
  • Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
  • Consequence: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

Negative 2019 Infiniti Q50 car reviews

  1. Filiberto Hoeger 2024-08-07

I empathize with the person who now owns this car. It's unfortunate to hear about the safety concerns with the q50 and the lack of concern from the manufacturer. However, I'm glad to hear that sales have fallen. I had some issues with my own q50, such as drifting to the right and a blown-out tire, but unfortunately, roadside assistance was not helpful. Despite these issues, I still had to purchase new tires and replace the rim. It's frustrating that the manufacturer claims the car is designed to drift to the right, but I can't find any evidence to support this. It's important to note that cars are designed to fight roadcrown, and I've never owned a car that felt so unsafe. I had to pay a significant amount to fix the defective lower control arm bushings and leaking fuel rails, which is disappointing. Overall, this car has been a constant money pit and I'm disappointed that the warranty doesn't cover these issues.

  2. Hilton Abbott 2024-07-14

The car was very small, but I loved that it had a sporty and flashy look. Unfortunately, I had to trade it in because I'm 6ft tall and weigh 240 pounds, so I was too big for this car. Although I enjoyed its speed and ability to move through traffic quickly, I disliked how low it was to the ground. I only owned the car for a little over two years.

Positive 2019 Infiniti Q50 car reviews

  1. Carmine Kuhlman 2024-11-25

Update 10/31/22- Hi there! I just wanted to share that I'm still absolutely loving my Q50! After owning my 2013 G37 for almost 9 years, it was starting to show its age. Although it still ran like brand new, the white bumpers were peeling and becoming discolored. But now that I have my Q50, it feels like a whole new world! The Q50 is so much quieter and refined, and I'm really enjoying the ride. The only thing I've noticed is that the Dunlop runflats can be a bit rough when it's cold in the morning. But the steering is so light that I can easily turn the wheel with just my pinky! I do miss the exhaust sound from my old car, but this one is still great. And while Infiniti may not be leading the pack in terms of tech, I have so many more options in my car now compared to my 2013. Unfortunately, there are no ventilated seats, but at least heated seats are offered. And the best part? Auto remote start is standard, so I don't have to pay for an aftermarket option. Overall, I think the Q50 is an amazing value for the price, and I highly recommend taking one for a test drive and adding it to your short list. It's definitely a winner in my book!

  2. Nico Bogan 2024-10-26

Hey there! I'm happy to let you know that this vehicle performs very well.

  3. Mack Wiza 2024-09-05

Now that the warm weather has finally arrived and Covid 19 seems to be more under control, I've been venturing out more in my Infiniti. It has the perfect combination of luxury and power that my spouse and I both love. I've owned luxury cars in the past, but none have been as much fun to drive as the Infiniti Q50. I have absolutely no regrets about my purchase.

  4. Camden Mayert 2024-06-29

If you manage to find a good deal on this car, such as a clean lease return, go for it without hesitation. It may not be perfect, but it certainly does what I need it to do. It comfortably accommodates four people, and I absolutely love shifting gears in it. Plus, the adjustable steering, transmission, and suspension make for a truly customizable driving experience. And let's not forget the superb handling, thanks to the Continental Extreme Contact 06 tires (if your car has any other tires, it's best to recycle them).

  5. Sylvester Volkman 2024-06-25

My seventh INFINITI. The team at Naperville INFINITI are amazing! I was in and out in under an hour with zero pressure. The q50 is such a fun car to drive and the fit and finish is typical INFINITI - top-notch. The red sport seats are fantastic. Thank you, INFINITI, for another job well done!
