The Toyota Venza is a five-passenger mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Toyota primarily for the North American market, beginning with its introduction in 2008 and now in its second generation — with a hiatus for model years 2018–2019.
The first-generation Venza was based on the XV40 series Camry platform and marketed between 2008 and 2017 — and shared the platform with the AL10 series Lexus RX. The second-generation model is a rebadged Japanese-market XU80 series Harrier and has been sold since September 2020.

- Summary: The vehicle started to exhibit a popping or clunking sound in the steering Column after 125,000 miles. Was told it was not dangerous and continued to drive while albeit was still distracting. At 165,000, the sound became extremely loud at hwy speeds of 70-80mph and cause the steering wheel to shake and pull to the left. Took to mechanic who told me to take it to dealer. Dealer immediately knew what the problem was but was told I would have to replace the entire steering column because there was no way access the bushing otherwise. It was 15$ EPS bushing/damper that had literally worn down to nothing cause the power steering motor to vibrate on the steering column when going over bumps and driving at high speeds. Altering the alignment and causing a slow leak of hydraulic power steering fluid. This apparently is a fairly common issue with 2009-2015 Toyota Venza

I PULLED/ DRIFTED THE CAR OFF THE ROAD IN A DIAGONAL DIRECTION BECAUSE IT WAS TOO DIFFICULT TO TRULY MAKE A DIRECT TURN OR PULLOVER. THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED VEHICLE OFF AFTER I DRIFTED TO A SAFE SPOT AND WHEN TURNED IT BACK ON THE STEERING WORKED. I DROVE TO A REPAIR SHOP BUT NO DIAGNOSIS HAS BEEN MADE YET. THIS HAPPENED ON A MAJOR ROAD BUT NOT HIGHWAY. I SUSPECT THIS MAY BE RELATED TO THE TOYOTA SAFETY RECALL F0J (F1J) ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ELECTRIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) CERTAIN TOYOTA VEHICLES 2014-2015. MY VENZA WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST BUT MAYBE IT SHOULD BE BECAUSE THE STEERING PROBLEM WAS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL. Consumer stated power steering assist loss was again on June 2, 2021.

WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW AND THE ACTUATORS FAILED UNDER NORMAL USE. I HAVE ANOTHER OLDER TOYOTA WITH WELL OVER 200,000 MILES AND THE ACTUATORS WORK JUST FINE. THIS TYPE OF FAILURE ON A SIMPLE EVERYDAY COMPONENT IS UNACCEPTABLE. A QUICK SEARCH AROUND THE INTERNET WILL REVEAL THAT THE ACTUATORS FAILING IS A COMMON THEME AMONG NEWER TOYOTA VEHICLES. THIS DEFECTIVE PART EXISTS IN ALMOST EVERY TOYOTA CAR AND SOME SUV AND TRUCK MODELS. TOYOTA IS UNABLE TO PRODUCE A RELIABLE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR.

IT IS EASY TO SEE THAT THERE ARE OPENINGS NOT COVERED BY SCREEN OR MESH THAT ARE LARGE ENOUGH FOR MICE TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. MY DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT ALL CARS HAVE THIS ISSUE AND I WILL BE CHARGED FOR ANY WORK ON THIS PROBLEM AS THEY CONSIDER IT TO BE A "MAINTENENCE ISSUE" WHEN IT IS CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW. WHY SHOULD THEY CHANGE THE DESIGN? THEY CAN MAKE LOTS OF MONEY LEAVING IT AS IS SO CONSUMERS HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MICE ARE DISEASE CARRYING VERMIN. AFTER 6 MONTHS, THERE IS A POPPING SOUND FROM THE ROOF WHEN MAKING TURNS OR GOING OVER THINGS LIKE RAILROAD TRACKS AND THE ROOF HAS BEGUN TO LEAK. TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE LEAK REPAIR ON 8/7/15. AS OF 8/17/15 THE ROOF IS LEAKING AGAIN AND THE POPPING SOUND IS GETTING WORSE AND SOUNDS LIKE ANOTHER BREAKAGE IS NEAR. WERE TOLD THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE THAT TOYOTA COULDN'T FIX DUE TO A LACK OF STRUCTURAL SUPPORTS IN THE ROOF WHICH ALLOWS FOR EXCESSIVE CHASSIS FLEX AND ADVISED TO LIVE WITH IT IF POSSIBLE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN THAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO ADDRESS. OTHER VENZAS HAVE ALSO HAD THE SAME ISSUE.

- Components: AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW:CURTAIN
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2009-2015 Venza vehicles. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) wiring may become damaged with regular use of the driver-side door.
- Consequence: Damaged wires may cause the air bag sensor to become inoperable, preventing the deployment of the side and curtain air bags on the driver side and increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the driver-side front door wire harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 19, 2021. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 21TB01/21TA01.

January 2019 Update. This car has been an excellent purchase for us, providing great performance and reliability. My wife absolutely loves it! We've only needed a couple of oil changes and tire rotations, so it's been hassle-free. It's a shame that Toyota discontinued the Venza, as we've read some negative reviews online, but we're very happy with our purchase. Despite being nearly two tons, it handles better than our 2001 Avalon, has a quieter cabin, and all-wheel drive with plenty of zip. This is actually our fourth Toyota product, and we've always been impressed with their reliability. If this car is anything like our 2001 Avalon, we'll be keeping it for the long term. It's strange that they still make this model for export, but not for the USA. We chose this car for its easy access to the cabin, perfect height, and all-wheel drive. It's not for everyone, but for someone who's not as young as they used to be, it's the best option out there. My wife loves this car, and I had to convince her to let go of her beloved Avalon after 15 years. It's interesting to see so many of them on the road in the Northeast, even though Toyota stopped selling them here in the U.S. It's built on the Highlander platform, and we think it's a great car.

I have just traded in my 2013 Venza Limited with V-6 engine after owning it for 6 years and driving over 67,000 miles. Throughout my ownership, the Venza has proven to be the most reliable car I have ever owned. Despite averaging around 22-23 MPG on regular fuel, the V6 provides reasonable performance. I have only experienced one maintenance issue, which was quickly resolved for a cost of approximately $300. I have since implemented countermeasures to prevent any further issues. Although the interior could be more luxurious and offer more features, the Venza is a practical and ultra-reliable crossover with plenty of power and reasonable comfort. The infotainment system could be improved, and the screen is too small. Additionally, the navigation system occasionally selects bizarre routes, which has led me to rely on Google Maps. Overall, I am confident in recommending the Venza as a reliable and practical choice for those in the market for a crossover.

Hi there! I noticed that the 2013 Toy Venza you're interested in has a tow prep, but it seems like very few of them actually have the towing prep package that can handle up to 3500#. Additionally, it looks like the light and trailer brakes need to be wired, as there is no prep for it. I'm curious, why do you think owners tow with everything else but not the Venza? Thanks!

I'm so glad I bought this car! I purchased it pre-loved in Southern California with roughly 20k miles on it and it was exactly what I was looking for. It was spacious, comfortable, and incredibly reliable. I owned it for 9 years and didn't have to do any unexpected maintenance on it, just regular oil changes, brakes, and scheduled maintenance. The controls were easy to use and it always felt safe driving with my 4 year old. Even though it's now 2023 and the tech has come a long way, this car still suited my needs perfectly. While it doesn't have all the new features like parking assist or lane keeping assist, it was still a great car. The only thing I wished for was a V6 instead of the 4cyl, especially on uphill ascents. But it was plenty roomy for our family of 3 and all our stuff. We've taken it to Mammoth Mountain numerous times and it did great. If you're looking for a dependable, safe, and comfortable SUV for a growing family, this is a great choice. The controls are simple and you can even connect your phone via bluetooth. I would definitely buy another one if they made the new Venzas as big as this old one!

The roof is almost entirely made of glass, which looks amazing (hail, hail Ceaser)! However, it can get quite hot inside the car. The seats are not equipped with memory function, but they are made of high-quality leather. Unfortunately, they are not perforated for cooling. The Venza was discontinued in 2015, which I wish I had known before purchasing the 2014 model in August of that year. In my experience, the AWD model is underpowered with the 4-cylinder engine, and cruise control on hills can be jerky. I would recommend purchasing the 6-cylinder model instead. Additionally, there are a few minor quirks, such as the sunroof not fully opening and the USB cable dropping down from the docking station. There is also some wind noise on the highway and the navigation display can be difficult to read in bright sunlight. While the gas mileage is lower than advertised, the door locks work well. Overall, I believe that the Venza is a solid vehicle, but it is important to be aware of these issues before making a purchase.
