ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-23
- VIN: SJKCH5CP0JA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Hello, My 2018 Infiniti QX30 slips into neutral while driving on the road at high speeds and without any warning. The message on the dash is vague “Service required. Do not shift gears. Visit Dealer.” I almost got into an accident more than once while driving the vehicle as low power to the vehicle accompanies this when it happens. I had absolutely no problems with the vehicle leading up to the first occurrence. In fact, I bought the car with less than 10k miles on it from Infiniti directly, where it was a fleet loner vehicle and well maintained. My car today has 56,000 miles and it is only a 2018. Two months and three car shops later, the issue remains unresolved. Infiniti said at first this was just a dead battery. A day later the issue resurfaced, where I also received a transmission control error. My service tech at Infiniti admitted that it is 90% Mercedes under the hood and they only have flowcharts to diagnose the issue. They recommended replacing a steering control column for $2k and could not answer me when I asked what that has to do with the error. I pulled it out for a second opinion and have confirmed nothing mechanical with the transmission, it is electrical. A quick google search for “Infiniti QX30 Service required do not shift gears visit dealer” yields an unprecedented number of complaints on forums of a widespread issue involving the transmission control unit for this vehicle. This issue needs to be looked at from a governing authority and my attempts to speak with the dealership about the issue has fallen on deaf ears. I learned the hard way that from 2017-2019, Infiniti collaborated with Mercedes on this vehicle and 90% of what is under the hood is Mercedes. It is the sister model to the Mercedes GLA who experienced similar issues, and the 2019 Mercedes GLA recalled their models for the same transmission control unit failure. A Google search for the same 2017-2019 era with Mercedes GLA yields starkingly similar forums from those owners.
BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-01
- VIN: SJKCH5CRXJA

- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The contact owns a 2018 Infiniti QX30. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle erroneously shifted into neutral(N) and stalled inadvertently. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart. The message "Service Required - Do Not Shift Gears - Visit Dealer" was displayed temporarily. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-05
- VIN: SJKCH5CPXJA
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I have had issues with the vehicle since purchasing it from Carmaxx in June 2021. I noticed the vehicle had extremely low miles and may have been involved in a traffic accident unreported as there is carriage noise and suspension noise as if it is loose. I reported a concern to the manufacturer when I initially received the vehicle and was brushed off by the manufacturer and not assisted. There are issues with the engine and I believe the driving system has been hacked or compromised as I have been having issues with the engine for some time so I became discourage to reported it locks up and does not allow the car to start. I believe the driving system has been electronically been compromised and hacked.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-11
- VIN: SJKCH5CR2JA
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: My vehicle is never been in an accident, but it is showing SRS malfunction. Nissan dealer took 2500$ to do all the services (Coolant, battery change, etc..) and gave me rejection sticker for state inspection and said I need to get this SRS issue fixed from infiniti dealer. And infiniti dealer says they have to replace the Airbag Control Module and quoting an other 2500$ spending 5000$ on a 10000$ car is not making sense, where equipment is going bad by itself. Airbag Control Module (SRS Malfunction, Front Left Malfunction)
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-11-01
- VIN: SJKCH5CP4JA
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2018 Infiniti QX30. The contact stated while driving at various highway speeds, the vehicle suddenly decelerated to 30 MPH. During the failure the check engine warning light illuminated and the message "Inoperative - See Owner’s Manual" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on several occasions and the ignition module, engine cylinders, brake wiring harness and brake sensor were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-23
- VIN: SJKCH5CPXJA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: The auxiliary battery located underneath the interior glove compartment went dead and the car was inoperable. I called Infinity and they would not help me. There was no information relating to this small battery either on internet or Infinity website. I finally had to have a friend drive me to the Coconut Creek Infinity service where they could not give me information but could repair only. The seatbelt on both driver and passenger continually lock up causing undo constriction and stress on eithr passenger. The moonroof electrical retractable interior lining which I have never used maybe 2 times since purchased bunched up two days ago and I cannot get it to close properly. The 2018 Infinity QX30 was purchased December 22, 2020. The warranty is 50,000 miles or 4 years. I have 53,000 miles and Infinity will not honor fixing the moonroof. Many Infinity owners have reported the same moonroof problem on this 2018 Infinity QX30 and because it was in the 1000's it should be a recall for this make/model.
STEERING,POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-26
- VIN: SJKCH5CP8JA
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The vehicle, with low mileage and no accidents, has had a few engine-related issues over the last few months. Recently, I went to turn it on, and many components of the car wouldn't work (no parking, power steering, engine issues, seats won't move, etc.). I live in a very dangerous city, and my car not working has placed me in a dangerous concern for my well-being. I took it to certified Infiniti dealer who said that the entire electrical harness has been damaged, rendering the vehicle a safety hazard, and quoted me $19,000 in repairs. Infiniti corporate refused to assist in repairing the damage that many people have reported having in this specific Infiniti model.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-14
- VIN: SJKCH5CP9JA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: A variety of dashboard lights illuminated including engine light, ABS, emergency brake failure message etc. Vehicle drove as if power steering had failed. When I brought the car in to the Dealer I was told that the vehicle displayed codes for two concerns: 1) air quality sensor and 2) all 4 wheel speed sensors. The wheel speed sensors had previously been replaced in 2019 while the car was still under warranty. Current estimate for the repair was over $3200. Ultimately, Infiniti corporate paid for the current repair stating these items were “under warranty’ from previous repair. This is the SECOND REPAIR for 4 out of 5 sensors. These failures are red-flagged in the repair estimate as “critical concerns“ by Infiniti service. For context, this is a well-maintained vehicle with under 10,000 miles on it. I am the original owner. My concern is that the underlying cause/s of these failures are not addressed and this will happen again and compromise my safety. My vehicle already has two strikes against it as far as Florida Lemon Law is concerned. This situation feels like a vehicle safety recall waiting to happen.

- Date Of Incident: 2018-07-25
- VIN: SJKCH5CP4JA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW TWO MONTHS AGO. DISCOVERED THE LEFT HATCH HARNESS COVER IS CRUSHED. WAS TOLD BY INFINITI REGIONAL MANAGER EVERYTHING ELECTRICAL IS RUN THOROUGH THAT HARNESS AND EVERY TIME THE HATCH IS OPENED AND CLOSED THE WIRING IS GETTING PINCHED. ALREADY HAVE HAD THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR BLACK BACKUP SCREEN, AUDIO PROBLEMS, LIGHTS NOT TURNING OFF, RADIO NOT SHUTTING OFF AFTER CAR IS TURNED OFF AND DOOR IS OPENED. WAS TOLD THAT WAS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM AND THAT THE SOFTWARE HAS BEEN UPDATED. INFINITI WON'T REPLACE THE WIRING SINCE NOTHING MAJOR HAS HAPPENED "YET." STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-08-16
- VIN: SJKCH5CRXJA
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: SINCE TAKING DELIVERY OF THIS VEHICLE IN MID AUGUST, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCH AND HANDLE DO NOT WORK. THE HANDLE DOES NOT GO BACK IN WHEN LIFTED AND THE DOOR WILL NOT LATCH. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S DOOR WAS "NOT PUT TOGETHER PROPERLY," AS STATED BY THE DEALER (HARTE INFINITI) IN THE WORK ORDER. MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE ENTIRE RUBBER TRIM SEPARATED FROM THE DOOR, LEAVING IT DANGLING, THE DOOR TRIM SEPARATED FROM THE DOOR PANEL, AND THE WINDOW LEAVES A STICKY FILM WHEN OPENING IT. THE DEALER'S WORKMANSHIP IN ATTEMPTING TO REPAIR IT HAVE BEEN SHODDY AND SUBSTANDARD. THE INFERIOR QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT, WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS IN THIS VEHICLE ARE NOT WORTH THE COST. WHAT'S MORE OFFENSIVE AND ACCEPTABLE ARE THAT THE CORPORATE CONSUMER RELATIONS REPRESENTATIVE, THE DEALER, INCLUDING THE SALESMAN AND SERVICE MANAGER ARE IRRESPONSIBLE AND EVASIVE IN RESPONDING TO CALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR REPAIRS FOR FIVE DAYS AND THE ONLY THING THEY DID WAS REPLACE THE WEATHERSTRIP AND LUBRICATE THE REAR DOOR HANDLE. THE DOOR HANDLE STILL DOES NOT WORK AND THE TRIM ON THE DOOR IS STILL SEPARATED FROM THE BODY OF THE DOOR, LEAVING GAPS. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE FOR THE ROAD. HOW WILL THESE DOORS PROTECT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER UPON IMPACT IN AN ACCIDENT? ALSO, THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT THE PAINT ON THE FRONT BUMPER IS PEELING OFF. ALTHOUGH I LEASE THIS LEMON, MY WIFE AND I HAVE PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED TWO BRAND NEW FX35S WHICH GAVE US NO PROBLEMS, THE REASON WHY WE OPTED FOR THE QX30 FOR OUR DAUGHTER. WE NOW WHOLEHEARTEDLY REGRET OUR DECISION. THIS VEHICLE MAY NOT HAVE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS AS YET BUT THE DEFECTIVE DOORS ARE JUST AS CONCERNING AND FRUSTRATING, AND AS MUCH SAFETY AND RELIABILITY ISSUES. SHAME ON THE MANUFACTURER, INFINITI USA AND HARTE INFINITI FOR LEAVING US NO CHOICE BUT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA.

It's been three years since we purchased our 2018 1/2 Infiniti QX30 Essential AWD, and we couldn't be happier with it! The 2018 1/2 models had some subtle improvements over the 2018s and earlier, which we've found to be great. We've had no major or minor issues with the car, and it's an absolute joy to drive - like a go-kart! Even in the harsh Minnesota winters, we've had no trouble getting around with snow tires. The only downside is that it doesn't come with a spare tire, and run-flat tires can be quite expensive. It's also worth noting that it requires premium gasoline. Overall, we love this car and would definitely buy another one in a heartbeat!

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your qx30! It sounds like it has a lot of great features, like a smooth ride, nice interior, and a great sound system. It's also great to hear that there's plenty of room up front, even for someone who's 6 feet tall like you. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

I've owned my QX30 for over 4 years now and I have enjoyed every moment of driving it. Infiniti has always been ahead of their time on style and options. The car is sleek, fast, good on gas mileage, and has just enough room inside. It wraps around me like a comfy sweater. The all-wheel drive handles great in any weather and the height is perfect for getting in and out. You don't sit too low or too high. Everything is within reach, even the hidden compartment below the passenger seat where I keep my sunglasses. The car has 4 cupholders in front and 4 in the back. The large screen on the dash controls everything, but it still has an actual knob for volume control, which I greatly appreciate (also has controls on the steering wheel). My passengers gawk at the gorgeous tan leather interior, which is stunning. The seats are completely customizable, making it perfect for me (5'2

I leased this car for 39 months, and I'm glad that it's coming to an end. While it has some features that I appreciate, overall it has been a frustrating experience. Unfortunately, it tends to lurch when I accelerate, and it requires premium gas which can be expensive. Additionally, some of the gadgets have had sporadic issues, which can be frustrating. Even the rear camera has had some issues, which can be a bit of a hassle. At one point, the motor in the passenger seat went out, which was a major inconvenience. However, the dealer was able to fix it within 6 days, which was appreciated. While I was waiting for my car to be fixed, the dealer gave me a GX50, which wasn't my favorite car, but it got the job done. The car can be a bit noisy, but it works best in sport mode. Overall, I'm looking forward to returning the car to the dealer.

I purchased this hatchback as a replacement for my Lexus sc430 coupe, which had stopped working. However, I must admit that I was initially disappointed with my purchase. The car felt small and I could hear every wind sound as if the window was open. Additionally, the hatchback space was limited, the armrest was tiny, and the glovebox only fit the manual. The car also auto-locks and must be manually unlocked. On the bright side, it does perform well on gas. Although I am not a fan of the non-opening sun view, I have decided to upgrade to a luxury SUV after only 6 months, even though it will result in a financial loss.

My mother-in-law visited a friend in the hospital. When they called for service, a gentleman arrived in a car to change the tire, only to discover that the car did not come with a spare. It took four hours for a tow truck to arrive. This is unacceptable! The space where the spare tire should have been was occupied by a large Bose sound system. This issue needs to be addressed immediately to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

I purchased this car due to its small, sporty design and the attractive rose gold color. The car's stylish appearance and sport interior trim are impressive. However, since my purchase 2 years ago, I have encountered several issues. These include repetitive problems with the coolant sensor and reservoir, jerking brakes that required repair, and the need to replace the tires once already, with another replacement looming. The air conditioning also functions unreliably. Fortunately, I have an extended warranty, which has saved me thousands of dollars. Despite these issues, I plan to trade the car in for an SUV within the next year.
Rhett Lesch 2024-03-06
It's a visually appealing car, but unfortunately, I've had quite a few issues with it during my 2 1/2 year lease. The coolant sensor is always on, and despite their efforts, the dealership hasn't been able to fix it. Additionally, the front-wheel drive seems to wear out the tires quickly, and I'm about to replace them for the second time. The central CPU system, which cost $10,000, malfunctioned after just 2 years, but thankfully it was covered by the warranty. Lastly, the gas tank access cover is automated, but the switch broke, leaving me unable to close it. While I do love my car, I wouldn't recommend purchasing it based on my experience.
