Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

(Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Camry and Camry HV, model year 2013 Avalon and Avalon HV and model year 2014 Corolla vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper switch assembly may short circuit. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, No. 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."
- Consequence: A short circuit could cause inoperative windshield wipers, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper switch assembly, free of charge. The recall began on November 8, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

I highly recommend this vehicle! The hybrid has already gone through a week of being everywhere around town, even back and forth to clients 30 miles away from home, and only used a half tank of gas. I love the comfort and the leather and suede seats, which are not in the newer models. Additionally, my kids feel the air from dual climate, which is only in the EXL model. I am so happy with this purchase! I purchased it from Mercedes Benz Ft Myers, and Kris Wasakowski, the wonderful sales person, was so helpful and gracious. The purchase date was in February 2019.

If you're considering buying a used car, the Toyota app can be a great resource. By entering the VIN, you can access all the service records completed at Toyota dealerships. Personally, I purchased my car at 260k and inspected it thoroughly (I'm a mechanic). The only issue I've encountered is a faulty tire sensor. In my opinion, asking for 270k is quite steep. While the ride may be more rigid compared to the older body style, I actually prefer it. Additionally, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the less than 5-star reviews on this car, as some people simply complain about storage compartments. It's worth noting that this year's model seems to have resolved the issue of melting dashboards (my wife's 09's dashboard is essentially flypaper). Overall, if you're in the market for a nice, cheap, and reliable used car, I would highly recommend purchasing one with good service records and high mileage without hesitation.

I commute 40 miles a day and recently traded in my 2010 Camry SE I4 for a mid-size hybrid under 25k. After test driving the Optima hybrid, Sonata hybrid, and the beautiful Fusion, I found that they couldn't keep up to their EPA estimates. Eventually, I decided to purchase a Camry hybrid LE and I'm happy to report that I'm currently averaging 55-61 mpg with 67% city and 33% highway driving. While the rattles can be unbearable, the sound quality is good and I appreciate that the seats don't leave me feeling tired after work.

The 2013 Camry LE Hybrid did not achieve good gas mileage and had several recalls and rust issues in its first year. The dealership's response to these issues was disappointing, stating that it would be the buyer's problem when they turn the car in. The maintenance package was also not up to par. During the first mandated service, the dealership instructed the owner to start and shut off the car three times to remove a code. At 23 months, the dealership refused to change the oil or service the car without payment. The car also had issues with road noise and blind spots, which required the addition of a side mirror. The interior quality of the car was subpar, with plastic components and uncomfortable seats. The car also lacked compatibility with modern electronics. Additionally, the car had low body clearance and poor performance in snowy conditions, causing a significant drop in gas mileage. The sales price of $32,000 was considered excessive, and the car would be difficult to resell for more than $10,000. Toyota's customer service was also lacking, with representatives suggesting that customers seek legal action. It is important to note that the dealership went out of business due to numerous Better Business Bureau complaints regarding their failure to honor advertised maintenance packages. Toyota's headquarters representatives stated that they do not deal with dealership issues, maintenance issues, or customer complaints. I have owned four Toyota Camrys, two of which were XLE hybrids. The 2014 model has shown significant improvement in terms of reduced vibration when at rest, quicker acceleration, and better handling. However, there are some areas where Toyota has made the car less desirable, such as the insufficient padding on the driver's seat, which is uncomfortable and rock hard in the middle. Additionally, the side pockets on the doors can no longer accommodate my umbrella, and the glove compartment on the passenger side is prone to everything falling out. The center glove compartment no longer has the basket that held my pen. Despite these issues, the Toyota Camry XLE hybrid remains a reliable and efficient car.
