Toyota Camry hybrid problems

The Toyota Camry (/ˈkæmri/; Japanese: トヨタ・カムリ Toyota Kamuri) is an automobile sold internationally by the Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota since 1982, spanning multiple generations. Originally compact in size (narrow-body), the Camry has grown since the 1990s to fit the mid-size classification (wide-body)—although the two widths co-existed in that decade. Since the release of the wide-bodied versions, Camry has been extolled by Toyota as the firm's second "world car" after the Corolla. As of 2022, the Camry is positioned above the Corolla and below the Avalon or Crown in several markets.
In Japan, Camry was once exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store retail dealerships. Narrow-body cars also spawned a rebadged sibling in Japan, the Toyota Vista (トヨタ・ビスタ)—also introduced in 1982 and sold at Toyota Vista Store locations. Diesel fuel versions have previously retailed at Toyota Diesel Store. The Vista Ardeo was a wagon version of the Vista V50.
Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

- Malfunctioning Oxygen Sensor Causing the Check Engine Light to Illuminate: This issue can affect the in-vehicle computer's ability to regulate the required air-to-fuel ratio for the engine, which can lead to reduced performance and fuel efficiency.
- Improper Shifting from Transmission for High Mileage Models: This issue can affect high-mileage Toyota Camry Hybrid models and can usually be resolved by replacing the shift solenoid or re-adjusting the throttle position sensor.
- Leak in the Power Steering Pump or Hose: This issue can affect models with a V-6 engine and can lead to reduced steering performance and increased wear on other components.
It is important to note that while these issues have been reported by some owners, they do not necessarily affect all Toyota Camry Hybrid vehicles. Additionally, Toyota has a reputation for reliability, and many of these issues can be addressed through routine maintenance and repairs.

Toyota Camry hybrid 2007
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-07
- Date Complaint: 2024-11-07
- VIN: 4T4BE46K77R
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Because of the sticky dash’s glare on the driver side windshield, I could not see the car ahead of me at all. I almost hit a car that was in front of me not because he had braked because we were both still in motion but the glare was directly in my line of vision. I just happened to put my hand up over the glare and saw there was actually a silver car in front of me and I was way to close to it. No accident occurred but it almost did and certainly could have injured me and/or my passengers. This has to be fixed! That scared me to death! I truly had no idea there was a car in front of me as I could NOT see it from the dash’s glare off the windshield.
Toyota Camry hybrid 2007
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-26
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-26
- VIN: 4T1BE46K97U
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The problem that I have is the same as the one I years ago. There was a recall on 2007 Toyota Camrys for oil consumption. At the time I waws never getting the maintenance indicator because the engine would run low on oil before I needed an oil change. I am having the same problem again. The car is not leaking oil. It's consuming oil. I now must drive around with extra oil in the trunk in case the oil is low. I have been a Toyota owner since 1986. I have always thought of Toyota as being one of the most reliable cars on the road. I have taken the car to the dealer near me (Toyota South Morrow, GA). Of course they do not want to further investigate this problem further. But I am sure is the problem. My mechanic also agrees that this is likely the problem.? What component failed? Engine / Oil How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The car could stop at any time with engine failure, blown gaskets, etc. The problem is easily reproduce every oil change. Toyota Dealership has reviewed the problem. Now the consumption is so bad I have to check the oil every 2 weeks. The low oil indicator does not come on. Is there another recall possible if this first recall doesn't fix the problem permanently.

- Summary: The replaced dashboard ( the first dashboard was replaced due to a recall about melting dashboards) is now melting just like the first one and is causing significant glare in on the windshield. Toyota Camry hybrid 2016
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-29
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-20
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- VIN: 4T1BF1FKXGU
- Components: STRUCTURE,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
- Summary: While loading groceries in my trunk, the torsion bar sheared off and broke (the hook part). It fell hard on my shoulder (fortunately not my neck or head). I have never seen steel actually break rather than bend. I tried to fix it but could not. Trunk is heavy and unstable (falls easily), as is part of car in back. Went to Toyota dealer and found out no recall, and "iffy" fix. They wanted $488.50 to try and fix. My body shop estimated $164. and purchased correct Toyota parts, followed their instructions. The bars only held for a few minutes, then they failed to hold up the trunk again. I was almost injured again with this failure, but managed to catch it in time. They refunded me $100. since they said there was no more "play" to work with. Went on social media only to find that many Toyota Camry 2016 and 2015s had torsion bar failures, with no recall. Some said that they spent over $1000. trying to fix it, but never could, no matter what dealership or body shop repaired it. Others gave up and sold it. It is not something that I can "live with". the trunk is heavy to life and unstable. Have to hold it while trying to put things in trunk. I have had 6 Toyotas in my life and 3 cars with Auto Nation, but have never had the lack of integrity, follow-through and non-solutions that I have experienced with the purchase of this car. Unlike others, I can't afford to sell/replace my car at this time, and can't live with it as is. I truly love my car, but do not feel safe using it and am totally frustrated. All I want is for Toyota and/or its mfr.) to own up to the design flaw and either fix or replace it. Note: I have photos of broken part, failure, and estimates, but couldn't get them to download onto your form. (It just kept deleting the form and having me start over). Please advise if I can send another way.

This car is not just fun to drive, it is probably the best purchase I have ever made. I have a 2020 4Runner TRD PRO and CHR, but the Hybrid is my favorite due to its numerous features and spaciousness compared to the early models. It's a great total package! I also love the colors they are offering for the interior. Additionally, this vehicle is not a plug-in, which is awesome.

Toyota has a long history of producing high-quality hybrid vehicles. The Camry Hybrid is a really nice, upscale hybrid. The XLE trim level is hard to beat. Although the Honda Accord Hybrid has more bells and whistles on their equivalent model, the Camry Hybrid XLE is a better choice for those who want a reliable and easy-to-service vehicle. The interior of the Camry Hybrid XLE is extremely nice, especially the heated leather seats. The power seat function would be nicer if it had memory for adjustments for different drivers, but it doesn't. The entertainment system is nice, and the JBL sound system is great. However, the Scout GPS navigation system that works with your cell phone is still buggy. If you are using the GPS on back roads and lose your cell phone signal, you'll need your mapquest directions if you don't know where you are going. Garmin is still the best system for GPS. It would have been better if Toyota had interfaced with them to allow voice and maps over the Entune app system. Thus far, the driving experience has been great, and the gas mileage has been right at 39 to 40 mpg as advertised. As I write this review, I just passed 1000 miles. So it's still too early to judge reliability. This car is primarily driven by my wife, and I was worried that it might not be comfortable for me on a trip. However, we took our first trip last weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised. I drove the entire time and did not feel any driving fatigue. The seat remained comfortable, and I arrived without a sore back!

There's a lot in this car, but unfortunately our dealer didn't take the time to explain how most things work. The manuals are also not very helpful, especially the navigation/radio/media one, which seems to have been poorly translated from Japanese. However, the car does have some really neat features, such as the ability to turn off a level of auto-dimming, although it can be a bit tricky to figure out (you need to flick the brights switch 9 times while holding down something else). One thing to watch out for is that the automatic door lock opener may short circuit in a car wash, unless you disable the key and get it far from the door. Additionally, some things like having the key open and close the window and sunroof need to be done by the dealer (who unfortunately didn't ask). While the 8-way seat adjust is nice, it's a shame that you can't program in your settings, so you have to readjust everything every time you switch drivers (it's been many years since I owned a car that didn't do this). Overall, I have some complaints about things that could have been easily dealt with by the company and dealer, but so far (2000mi) I have no complaints at all about the big stuff like how it runs.

Hi there! From what I can gather, it seems like you're really enjoying your car! I do agree that the front seats could be more supportive, but it's great to hear that the car is smooth and quiet. It's also impressive that you're getting such good gas mileage, especially in urban traffic. The tires sound like they're doing a great job too! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the car.

Your new 2016 Camry XLE Hybrid sounds like an amazing car! It's great to hear that it's the smoothest riding and most fuel-efficient car you've ever owned. The navigation system sounds really helpful too, especially with the speed limit and street information displayed below the speedometer. It's also great to hear that the controls are well positioned and that the ride is much quieter than your previous Camry. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with the car and recommending it for a test drive!

The car has great gas mileage and I love the look of it. However, I would appreciate it if you could update my new car with Apple CarPlay. The Entune system is not useful to me and feels like a waste of money. Other companies are already using Apple CarPlay, and I believe it would be a great addition to your cars. Thank you for considering my request.

I purchased the Camry XLE hybrid six months ago because the Accord had a single flaw that was a deal breaker for me. As someone with long legs, the center console and starter button intruded into the right leg space and touched my knee. This was an odd ergonomic oversight by Honda that others have also commented on. However, other Hondas do not have this issue. Otherwise, the Accord is better, which is also what most car magazines say. Here are the pros and cons of the Camry XLE hybrid: The ride is quiet, the powertrain is responsive, and it averages over 50 mpg. The handling is surprisingly good with nicely weighted, precise steering. On the downside, the ABS pump makes bizarre groaning noises for several seconds when opening the car, and it often does this while driving. The dealer told me this is normal and blew me off, even though three other hybrid Camrys I drove (during the test drives and one from a friend) did not do this. Additionally, the cheap hard plastic everywhere, even in XLE trim, causes rattles and buzzes. Every time there is a bump in the road, there are rattles from the door panels, glove box, and other places. This is not good in a car with only 5K miles on it. My 14-year-old Honda CRV has fewer rattles. In summary, if you are looking for a pleasant, roomy four-door hybrid and you can sit comfortably in the Accord, go for it. The interior in the Accord is nicer with a better quality feel.

Congratulations on your new car! It's great to hear that you're enjoying the smooth and quiet ride of your 2015 Camry Hybrid XLE. It's impressive that even with a sunroof, you're still able to adjust the electric seat to fit your 6'1

If you happen to live in an area without cell service, don't worry about using the navigation system to get around. Instead, you can use your phone to display maps on your screen. According to the salesman, most people prefer to use their phone anyway. It's worth noting that in Oregon, you could be fined for holding a cell phone while driving. Just something to keep in mind. Overall, Toyota offers a great range of features to make your driving experience as smooth as possible.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share with you that my car has reached 200k miles and I've noticed that it's been burning oil lately. I've been adding a quarter of oil (946ml) every 2000 miles, but I'm not sure if that's normal. I've taken it to the Toyota dealer twice for an oil consumption test, but both times it passed. They did mention that as long as it's not burning a quarter of oil in 1000 miles, it should be okay. What do you think?
