As part of its entry into full-scale production, the first-generation Continental was the progenitor of an entirely new automotive segment, the personal luxury car. Following World War II, the segment evolved into coupes and convertibles larger than sports cars and grand touring cars with an emphasis on features, styling, and comfort over performance and handling. From 1956 to 1957, the Continental nameplate was the namesake of the short-lived Continental Division, marketing the 1956–1957 Continental Mark II as the worldwide flagship of Ford Motor Company; as a second successor, Ford introduced the Continental Mark series in 1969, produced over six generations to 1998.
Along with the creation of the personal luxury car segment, the Lincoln Continental marked the zenith of several designs in American automotive history. The Continental is the final American vehicle line with a factory-produced V12 engine (1948), the final four-door convertible (1967), and the final model line to undergo downsizing (for the 1980 model year).
American production of the Continental and MKZ, its only two sedans, ended in 2020 thereby making Lincoln a crossover/SUV-only brand in the USA. After it was discontinued in Lincoln's home market, Ford indicated that it planned to move Continental production to China.

There was no advance warning of this, and no warnings or messages displayed on the vehicle prior. As this was the first wheel removed, I am not sure what the condition of the other tires may be. As all tires are original equipment to the car, which is 4.5 years old and has approximately 18,000 miles on the odometer, I suspect that all tires will likely need to be replaced as they are all the same date code and DOT number. I have tried to upload pictures, but the webpage doesn't let me.

- Summary: On July 09, 2022 I delivered my vehicle to Heller Ford 700 Main Street El Paso, IL, (309) 527-6050 to have my original Cabin Air Filter eeplaced with a unit which I supplied. Their technician performed a commendable removal of the original unit. He found the original Motor Craft Cabin Air Filter had deteriated to a black fragmented crust which had clogged the blower motor to the extent the motor had to be removed and bown out, and reinstalled prior to the instillation of the new filter! I have no reservations against Heller Ford and it Service Facility Staff, mine is with Lincoln My car had 56,687 miles at the time of the service, The service manual recommends changes be made at 20,000 - 30,00 miles. My vehicle is highway driven no city stop and go traffic, I asked the sevice staff if they ever seen a cabin air filter in such shape- they said no I Purchased my vehicle from Sutton Lincoln/Ford in 2018 new off the lot and this vehicle is used for 100% pleasure driving. I feel the Cabin Air Filter was defective when it was installed at the factory! I contacted Lincoln Way - Case # 37545937 c/o Joan Turetsky Claim Service MGR. - Summary: The electric door latching mechanisms fail to fully latch the driver's door shut when pulled to the first detent. In order to fully engage the door latches, it was necessary to slam the door. The first occurrence coincided with unusually cold weather (34 degrees f). These door latches had previously been the subject of a recall which first delayed the dealer's ability to sell the car to me. Then, suddenly, even though the parts were reportedly still unavailable, the dealer claimed to have been able to use company connections to obtain parts early and claimed to have carried out the recall before selling me the car in April 2019. About a year later, the latches malfunctioned, draining the car's battery over the course of about two days, after which, the same dealer "reprogrammed" the latches and replaced the battery. Now trouble with the same door latches emerges again.

I have had people stop me to tell me how good looking this car is. I absolutely love driving it. It's so plush, yet has enough get up and go when I hit the gas to satisfy this former Dodge Charger owner. The only criticism I have is a single rough shift between first and second that happens occasionally when coasting, but otherwise, it works like a dream.

I purchased this car in November 2018 as an off-lease vehicle. It is powered by the 3.0 L twin-turbo V6 with AWD, which is a great option. It replaced my 2007 Audi A6 Quattro, and I must say that the Lincoln is just as quick and sure-footed. The Revel stereo is the best I have ever owned, and the ride is serenely quiet. The car handles bumps with ease, and the 30-way adjustable front seats provide adequate support and comfort once you get used to them. The back seat is roomy enough for three adults. The overall fit and finish are impressive and rival other luxury cars I have owned, including the Audi, a 1997 Jaguar XK8, and 1991 Lexus LS400. The safety systems include all the latest bells and whistles, including adaptive cruise control, 360-degree cameras, and park assist. The infotainment system is intuitive and much easier to use than my wife's 2015 Lexus. The only issue I have is with the transmission, which can sometimes lurch to find the right gear in stop-and-go traffic. The car is averaging 19.4 mpg in mostly suburban driving, which is not bad for a 4300-pound car with a 400 HP engine, especially since it uses regular gas! After a year, I am still very impressed with this car. It is solidly built, and after 30,000+ miles, there are no unusual squeaks or rattles, even over very rough roads - something I cannot say about my wife's 2015 Lexus RX350. Ford finally produced a luxury sedan to rival the Germans. I can't believe they announced plans to discontinue it!

I have a 2018 black label Continental which I thoroughly enjoy. Features like e-latch handles and 30 way seats are not commonly found in German sport sedans. I appreciate the comfortable ride, quiet cabin and heads up display. The car has been trouble-free and the concierge service is excellent.

I have owned both a 2017 and 2018 Lincoln Continental Reserve, and while they are stylish and enjoyable to drive, I have experienced some issues. Despite having perfect alignment, the tires only lasted for 25K miles, which was disappointing. I was informed by the service team that the engine's weight was the cause of this problem, which was frustrating to hear. Additionally, I have had recurring low engine oil pressure warnings, which have been temporarily resolved by turning the car off and on again. While this issue has been inconvenient, I have found that the dealership has been unable to provide a permanent solution. The 2017 model's rear seat package is a nice touch, but it would have been even better if it included a DVD player. I have owned many vehicles in the past, and while the Continental is a good car, it has had more issues than I would expect for the price. In my experience, the Jaguar XJL has been my favorite car, and the Navigator has been the best SUV I have owned, with ample legroom in the third row.

The car was delivered new with 97 miles on 12/29/18. Unfortunately, on 1/7/19, it wouldn't start due to a defective battery cell, which was promptly replaced. However, on 1/27/19, it wouldn't start again, and the message 'system shut down to protect battery' appeared. The car was taken to the shop on 1/31, but it still wouldn't start. Since then, I have been told that 'Continentals have to be run less than every 3 days, as modules talk to one another, draining battery'. I find this hard to believe. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I leased my Reserve AWD in March 18 after driving Town Cars for 20 years. Although the Town Car is far superior in terms of overall ride and storage capacity, I have some positive thoughts about the Continental so far at 7000 miles: The 30 position massage seats are a great feature, although they can be somewhat complicated to operate. The MPG overall is 23-24 and 27 Hwy on a few trips, which is impressive. The 2.7 liter turbocharged engine offers good power, and the rear seat room is above average. The styling is nice, and there are lots of bells and whistles, although I don't know if I'll ever use them all. However, there are some downsides: The push button transmission can be slow to respond, and everything is computer/electrically controlled, including opening the doors. As someone who is old school, I don't care for this trend. The dash display option is unnecessarily complicated, and there is no option for a temperature gauge. The owner's manual is 3/4

I ordered a Continental in March 2018 since there were no large American sedan choices. My husband picked all the bells and whistles he fell in love with from the TV commercials. We waited until the end of July for the delivery. Unfortunately, within the first few weeks, the AC went out. The dealer probably goosed the Freon, but it lasted until the weather changed. In the fourth month, the trunk refused to respond, not to the fob, not to the dash button, not to the emergency pull in the trunk. After two weeks in the shop and supposedly a latch change and a complete reprogramming of the car, the dealer admitted that the car was 'too new and no one knows much about it'... but they did get the trunk to work. In the sixth month, the exterior sensor warning system or parking assist stopped working. We decided to drive it from Virginia to Florida anyway and unfortunately, we found out that there was no AC - again. The dealer's response was that they verified the AC is not getting cold but couldn't find a leak. They charged it and added dye. If it acts up again, we were told to bring it back in and they should be able to find the leak. The dealer's response to no sensors was that they worked fine for them, 'it's going to have to be one of those things that needs to bring back when it is happening more often.' It hadn't worked for almost two weeks the day it was taken in, so I have no clue what 'more often' might mean. I'm not thinking I'm going to keep this car long if this becomes a pattern.
