2014 Subaru Legacy problems
The Subaru Legacy (Japanese: スバル・レガシィ, Hepburn: Subaru Regashi) is a mid-size car built by Japanese automobile manufacturer Subaru since 1989. The maker's flagship car, it is unique in its class for offering all-wheel drive as a standard feature, and Subaru's traditional boxer engine. The Legacy was sold as the Liberty in Australia out of deference to Legacy Australia, an organisation dedicated to caring for the families of military service veterans.
In 1996, a variant of the Legacy with heightened suspension called the Legacy Outback was introduced to compete in the burgeoning sport-utility vehicle class and proved to be a sales success for Subaru. The Outback line was split into its own model in 2008, known as the Subaru Outback.
As of 2008, 3.6 million Legacy models have been built since its 1989 introduction.
Production of the Legacy ended in Japan in June 2020, with the sixth-generation Legacy being the last model produced and marketed in Japan. Subaru of America announced in an internal email that 2025 will be the last model year for the Subaru Legacy. The Subaru Outback will remain in production, after being the company's top selling model in 2023.

Common 2014 Subaru Legacy problems
The Subaru Legacy, a mid-sized sedan introduced in 1989, has built a reputation as a dependable family vehicle over the years. However, like any car, the Legacy has its share of problems, particularly in the 2014 model year.
One of the most common issues with the 2014 Subaru Legacy is excessive oil consumption. Many drivers have reported that the engine uses about a quart of oil every 1200 miles, which raises the cost of maintenance and could potentially harm the engine if not addressed. This problem was most frequently reported in 2013 models but also affected the 2010 to 2014 model years.
The 2014 Legacy also has issues with its climate system. Owners have reported problems with the air conditioning system, including a lack of cool air or the system not working at all.
In addition, the 2014 Legacy has experienced problems with its exhaust system. Owners have reported muffled exhaust sounds, corroded exhaust pipe-to-muffler joints, and leaks in the exhaust system.
The Legacy's infotainment system has also been a source of frustration for some owners. Some have reported issues with the system freezing or not responding, as well as problems with the Bluetooth connectivity.
Lastly, the 2014 Legacy has experienced problems with its fuel system. Some owners have reported issues with the fuel pump, including leaks and failures.
In summary, the 2014 Subaru Legacy has several common issues, including excessive oil consumption, head gasket failures, climate system problems, exhaust system issues, infotainment system problems, and fuel system issues. While the Legacy is known for its reliability, these problems can be costly and frustrating for owners.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
- VIN: 4S3BMCC6XE3
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: My vehicle is suffering of the exact same issue described in recall WRA-24. However, this recall only covers the model years 2020 to 2022, mine is 2014 with approximately 106,000 miles. Since the last week of December, my vehicle has been to the Fort Wayne, IN Subaru Dealership approximately 9 time for the same issue. It has cost me over $2,500 plus the fuel used for all this trips (I live over 40 miles away from the dealership). The problem is still not 100 percent fixed after they changed the seat cushion, the airbag module, the seat belt buckle sensor, and I don't know what else. The last time (a couple of weeks ago) that the car was at the dealership, they had the car for over 2 weeks. The next morning, the car did the same thing again where the red airbag warning light turns on and the passenger airbag shuts off with a passenger sitting on the seat. I've taken videos of the issue to show the dealership as they seemed doubtful of what I was explaining to them. The dealer claims they have been in contact with Subaru and they don't know what else to do. They started providing me with a loaner free of charge after the 4th visit. In summary, same issue as WRA-24, over $2,500 so far, and still not resolved.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-10

This high amount of current kills the battery after letting the car sit for days. Legacy models after 2015 were recalled for this issue but not other years. This is an unacceptable product defect leaving customers stranded in potential remote locations.

- Consequence: A vehicle rollaway can increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EPB actuator assembly, free of charge. The recall began July 19, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WTV-81.
- Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc.
- Components: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR
- Summary: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Legacy vehicles manufactured November 26, 2008, to June 7, 2013, and 2010-2014 Outback vehicles manufactured January 9, 2009 to June 7, 2013. Due to contamination, components within the windshield wiper motor bottom cover may interfere with each other. If an obstruction, such as a buildup of snow or ice prevents the wiper arms from being able to stop in the parked position, the wiper motor may overheat and the bottom cover may melt.
- Consequence: If the windshield wiper motor overheats, the wipers may fail, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the wiper motor cover may melt, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the windshield wiper motor bottom cover assembly, free of charge. The recall began October 2016. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's number for this recall is WTK-71. Note: This recall supersedes recall 11V-469. All vehicles that were remedied under that campaign are affected by this campaign, and need to have their wiper motor bottom cover replaced again.
- Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc.
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
- Summary: Subaru of America is recalling certain model year 2014 Legacy 3.6R and Outback 3.6R and 2013 Tribeca vehicles manufactured June 12, 2013, through June 28, 2013 and equipped with 5-speed automatic transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the parking rod may come loose inside the automatic transmission.
- Consequence: As a result of the parking rod detaching, the transmission may not be able to be moved from the "park" position preventing the vehicle from being moved or driven. Furthermore, even with the transmission shifted into the 'park' position, the parking mechanism may not engage, and the vehicle may roll away while in the "park" position, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the transmission, free of charge. The recall began during August 2013. Owners may contact Subaru at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's recall number is WQJ-46.

You're going to love this car! It has very low miles and is in excellent condition. It's perfect for first-time buyers, whether you're young or elderly.

You've found a real gem of a car! It has very low mileage and is in excellent condition. It may not be anything fancy, but it's a reliable workhorse. And if the reputation holds true, you should expect to get well over 200,000+ miles out of it, just like many other Subaru owners already have with theirs.

I chose this car because when I bought it I lived in a city with harsh winters and I needed a reliable, all-wheel-drive option. After researching for over a year, I decided to go with the Legacy over an SUV because of its great gas mileage and the reliability of the Subaru name. The cabin size is also great, comfortably fitting 4 large adults. The only issue I've had with this car is the gas mileage. Despite having driven it for 4200 miles and having had an oil change, I'm still not getting above 21.9 miles to the gallon. I drive on the freeway to work every day and should be getting at least 28 combined. Even on a highway trip of 1200 miles, the best mileage I got was 29 MPG.

It's almost the greatest car! The road handling is fantastic, which is why I decided to purchase it. The interior layout is also great, with intuitive controls that are well-placed. While more gauges would be nice instead of dummy lights, overall it's a great experience. However, there are a few fundamental flaws in the drivetrain that could be improved. For example, the car has grown in size and weight, but the engine has not kept up. This means that the engine struggles to hold the car going down even mild hills. I think a 3-liter four-cylinder engine would do a better job. Additionally, the first gear is way too high, which can make parking lots a bit of a challenge. Serious hills require 5000 rpm and long clutch riding to get started on. However, if the 5th gear ratio was changed and a new first gear was added, this issue could be solved. Lastly, the reverse gear is made for 45 mph, which can be a bit tricky to manage. Despite these issues, I still think this car is great!

I've driven other brands such as Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi, but I switched to Subaru Legacy because I heard they were solid cars. And I have to say, I have no regrets! The handling is superb, very stable at high speeds, and certainly fun to drive. I had a 2007 Subaru Legacy and upgraded to a 2013 Subaru Touring Legacy, which was a sweet buy. The 2013 Subaru is certainly better at gas mileage compared to the 2007, and the latter year is roomier. Of course, the SI drive is great, and I am yet to explore the sport plus mode! If you're thinking of getting a Subaru Legacy, go for it. You won't regret owning one. I live in Jamaica, where the roads are bad, but all my Subarus that I have owned have been with me for 5 years and more with little front-end work. They're still going strong in 2022. The only drawback I've experienced is the CVT solenoid, which at times fails, and then they suggest buying an expensive valve body!

The 2009 Altima Hybrid I traded in was not suitable for Wisconsin winters, as it struggled to make it up hills. However, I am confident in my decision to purchase the Sport model of the Subaru, as it has a sleek and attractive design. The AWD system performs exceptionally well in this climate, even in areas where salt is not used. Although the ride can be a bit stiff and bumpy, the handling is superb. While it may take longer to reach Zero-60 compared to other cars in its class, I am certain that this car has the potential to last for 200K miles or more.

I previously owned a 2010 Subaru Legacy and had a great experience with it, so I decided to upgrade to the 2013 Legacy. Unfortunately, I have not had the same positive experience with this car. The suspension has been changed, resulting in a harsh, noisy, and jittery ride. Additionally, I have not noticed any improvements in handling or fuel efficiency, as I am only getting 17 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The OEM tires are also not up to par, as they are noisy and negate the benefits of having an AWD vehicle. While I am disappointed with my experience, I have decided not to purchase or lease another Subaru in the future.

I recently upgraded from a 2012 2.5i Premium to the 2013 2.5i Sport for the new performance upgrades. While the AWD performance of a Subaru is unquestionable and handles almost any road condition with ease, I must admit that the '13 model was a bit disappointing. The acceleration on the '13 is sluggish from a stop but crisp at higher RPMs, and I feel that the acceleration on the '12 was better overall. Additionally, I was averaging 31 mpg with my '12 and only 26 with my '13. Although the Sport interior isn't all that impressive, the seats may feel softer but they also show dirt and lint far worse than the '12 interior. Lastly, the new suspension is stiff and bone-jarring at times, whereas Camry's run the same 18' set-up with a much smoother ride.

The headliner began to fall away from the rear window just 2 weeks after the warranty had expired. However, Subaru promptly paid for a new headliner to be installed, despite the car being leased. While I am unsure if they would have covered the repair if I had owned the car, I was pleased with their response. It was an expensive repair, but I am grateful for Subaru's assistance.

The '07 Legacy was a car that exuded understated elegance, with attractive aerodynamic lines and high-class materials. The interior was well-designed, with a minimalist center console that was both aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly. However, the newer version of the Legacy has undergone significant changes that have resulted in a less appealing appearance and lower-quality materials. Despite these changes, the Legacy remains a reliable and capable vehicle.
