2008 Suzuki Sx4 problems
The Suzuki SX4 is a subcompact car and crossover produced by Japanese automaker Suzuki since 2006. A successor of the Aerio tall hatchback and sedan, the first-generation model was available as a hatchback and sedan, with the former available in both front- and four-wheel drive and as a rebadged version in Europe called the Fiat Sedici.
In 2013, the second generation was launched, called Suzuki SX4 S-Cross (or Suzuki S-Cross in India)— now exclusively a subcompact crossover SUV. The first- and second-generation SX4s sold alongside one another until 2014. The SX4 sedan was replaced with the Suzuki Ciaz. The third-generation model was introduced in 2021 as a heavily modified version of the previous model and was only produced in Hungary for the European market. For the Indian market, the S-Cross was replaced by the taller Grand Vitara.
The SX4 is an abbreviation of "Sports X-over 4 Seasons". The SX4 designation was previously used by American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the 1981 through 1983 model years for a sporty liftback model in its line of all-wheel-drive AMC Eagle passenger cars. While the "S-Cross" suffix is an abbreviation of Smart Crossover.

Common 2008 Suzuki Sx4 problems
The Suzuki SX4 2008 has several common problems that owners have reported. One of the most serious issues is a cracked engine block, which can lead to engine failure. This problem was reported by an owner of a 2008 Suzuki SX4, whose vehicle had a cracked engine block at approximately 97,800 miles. The owner had to replace the engine to solve the issue, which can be costly. Therefore, it's essential to take your vehicle to an auto repair shop as soon as engine-related problems arise.
Another common problem reported by Suzuki SX4 owners is transmission failure. One owner of a 2013 model year reported unusual noises and vibrations coming from the vehicle's transmission, which can be a sign of a serious problem. Transmission failure can lead to costly repairs, so it's crucial to address this issue promptly.
Faulty airbag sensors have also been reported in many 2007 Suzuki SX4 units. Malfunctioning airbag sensors can cause the airbag sensor light to come on and beep intermittently, causing panic among drivers while on the road. This problem must be addressed right away because there may be a possibility that the airbags won't deploy properly in case of an emergency. Replacing the passenger seat and airbag sensors appeared to solve the issue on the affected vehicles.
Leaking rear axle seals are another common problem reported by Suzuki SX4 owners. This issue can lead to fluid leaks and decreased performance, and it can be costly to repair. Therefore, it's essential to address this issue promptly to prevent further damage to the vehicle.
Sticking accelerator pedals have also been reported by Suzuki SX4 owners. This issue can be dangerous, especially when driving at high speeds, as it can cause the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably. Therefore, it's crucial to address this issue promptly to ensure the safety of the driver and passengers.
The 5th gear stopped working is another issue reported by Suzuki SX4 owners. This problem can lead to decreased performance and increased fuel consumption, and it can be costly to repair. Therefore, it's essential to address this issue promptly to prevent further damage to the vehicle.
Cracked engine blocks, transmission failure, faulty airbag sensors, leaking rear axle seals, sticking accelerator pedals, and the 5th gear stopped working are some of the most common problems reported by Suzuki SX4 owners. Therefore, it's essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and performance of the vehicle. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these problems and ensure the longevity of the vehicle.
Why SX4 failed?
Let me summarize this: Stiff competition from rivals meant low sales for the SX4. Thirsty petrol engine, lack of features, less cabin space as compared to the City. The new Ciaz would be a modern car and would erase all shortcomings found in the SX4.
What year is the bad Suzuki SX4?
Summary: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 Grand Vitara and 2007-2011 SX4 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, over time, the OCS sensor mat installed in the front passenger seat may fail due to repeated flexing of the mat from use of the seat.
How many miles does a 2008 Suzuki SX4 last?
The estimated lifespan of a Suzuki Sx4 is 146,000mi, before reaching the life expectancy upper limit.

HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-02-03
- VIN: JS2YB413985
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: I HAVE HAD THIS SX4 SINCE 3/1/11, ASIDE FROM THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM, I HAVE NO OTHER ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. LAST SPRING, AROUND MAY, I HAD THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED. ONLY HAVING THIS CAR FOR 2 YEARS AT THE TIME, AND HERE I AM NEEDING THEM REPLACED AGAIN. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY PRIOR VEHICLE. I LOVE THIS CAR, I DON'T WANT TO TRADE IT IN. I WOULD FEEL GUILTY TRADING IT IN, AND PUTTING ANOTHER FAMILY IN THIS CAR, SHOULD SOMETHING GO TERRIBLY WRONG. MY HUSBAND AND I DEBATED WHAT THE CULPRIT COULD BE FOR THE NOISES THE CAR MADE FROM 15 MPH TO 70 MPH (ROCK IN A BOX) SOUND AND THE CAR SHAKING THROUGHOUT THE CAR, BUT ALSO IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I DIDN'T WANT TO ACCEPT THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE CONTROL ARM AGAIN. SO WE REPLACED THE STABILIZER BAR BUSHINGS. THE MECHANIC THAT REPLACED THE BUSHINGS SAID REPLACING THE BUSHINGS WERE NOT GOING TO SOLVE THE ENTIRE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE BALL JOINTS WERE DONE, THEY NEEDED REPLACED. I ALSO HAVE BEEN TOLD BY ANOTHER MECHANIC ROTATING MY TIRES, HAVE SAID THE SAME THING. REPLACING THE STABILIZER BUSHINGS HELP THE ( ROCK IN A BOX) SOUND, BUT NOT THE SHAKINESS THROUGHOUT THE CAR AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CAR IS FALLING APART THE WAY IT RATTLES ON THE SMOOTHEST STREET HERE. DOES THIS PROBLEM FALL UNDER ANY TYPE OF WARRANTY OR A RECALL INTRODUCTION? *TR
AIR BAGS PROBLEM

- Crash: 1
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I WAS CROSSING A STREET (WITH THE GREEN LIGHT) ENTERING THE DRIVEWAY TO THE APARTMENT COMPLEX, THERE IS A DIP AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE DRIVEWAY SO I WAS DOING ABOUT 3 MPH. A DODGE DURANGO SUV, RAN THE "RED" LIGHT AND STRUCK MY VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR TOTALING THE SUZUKI, KNOCKING THE CAR ABOUT 20 FEET SIDEWAYS, AND RENDERING ME UNCONSCIOUS.. THE DURANGO WAS DOING APPROXIMATELY 45-50 MPH UPON IMPACT, HE WAS NOT LOOKING WHERE HE WAS GOING, HE WAS TALKING TO HIS GIRLFRIEND, AND CONSEQUENTLY DID NOT APPLY THE BRAKES, UNTIL HE STRUCK MY CAR. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED ON THE IMPACT, WHICH ADDED TO THE LATERAL DIRECTION OF TRAVEL OF MY HEAD AND NECK, CAUSING SEVERE WHIPLASH. SUZUKI HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEIR AIR BAG SYSTEM FOR AT LEAST FIVE YEARS AND THERE WAS A RECALL OF THE AIR BAG SENSOR, WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED. IN FACT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY OF THE RECALLS ISSUED BY SUZUKI. I HAD DRIVEN THE CAR OVER 100,000 MILES WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL, HOWEVER THE MAIN IMPACT SAFETY FEATURE WAS NOT OPERABLE AND SUZUKI KNEW IT AND FAILED TO INFORM ME. I AM FORTUNATE THAT I AM ALIVE, BROKEN AND BRUISED, BUT ALIVE. MY GRANDSON IS GENERALLY WITH ME, AND WOULD HAVE SURELY BEEN KILLED, HAD HE BEEN IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. *TR

2008 Suzuki Sx4 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2008 Suzuki Sx4.
- Manufacturer: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. As a result, during a crash necessitating deployment, the air bag will deploy regardless of whether the front seat occupant is an adult or a child.
- Consequence: Air bag deployment with a child in the front passenger side seat increases the risk of injury to that child.
- Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners and dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion assembly (which includes the OCS sensor mat) free of charge. Sufficient quantities of parts are not currently available to fix all of the affected vehicles. Owners will be notified of the recall in October 2013 and will receive a second notification when parts are available to have their vehicle repaired. The recall began on May 23, 2014. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's recall campaign number is VD.

Positive 2008 Suzuki Sx4 car reviews

I absolutely love my car! It has been a reliable and safe companion for the past 10 months, especially in the ice and snow. The traction control and anti-lock brakes have kept me going in a straight line, even when other cars were fishtailing. Not only is it a great car, but it's also a blast to drive. It's so comfortable that my husband always wants me to drive, even though his Saturn gets better gas mileage. Speaking of gas mileage, I'm averaging an impressive 27 MPG, even with my 100-mile daily commute. I did test drive a Honda Fit and Civic, but they just didn't feel as substantial as my SX4. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my car!
-
I must admit, I was a bit hesitant to purchase a Suzuki since I had never owned one before. However, I have been pleasantly surprised! This car has received great reviews from my friends, and it came with some fantastic perks, including a much-needed built-in Bluetooth system. Before owning this car, I used to spend around $60 on gasoline during a normal work week in California. But after just one week of driving this car, I have only spent $35 on gas and still have a little less than half a tank left. This deal is unbeatable!
-
We bought the AWD version of this car in April 2008 and we absolutely love it! It's so much fun to drive and fits our growing family of 5 (4 adult size and one child) comfortably enough for short trips. We're also impressed with how good it is on gas, getting 21.5 city driving. Plus, there's lots of trunk space which is always a bonus. We can't wait to see how it handles in the snow! Even though it's a 4 cylinder vehicle, it does great on hills.
-
Hey there! Why don't you take a second look and get a second opinion? It's always good to have a fresh perspective!
-
I love my car! It looks so sporty for an economy car. The only thing I wish it had more of is horsepower and torque. Unfortunately, my sport edition didn't come with driving lights or cruise control, but that's really the only thing I can complain about. On the bright side, the 2009 model has an integrated GPS. All in all, I would say that this car is definitely worth it!

This is my very first brand new vehicle purchase and unfortunately, I am quite disappointed with it. The exterior paint seems to be quite sensitive and scratches down to the metal extremely easily. I have had to pay for protectant because of bird droppings marking it. Additionally, the interior plastic on the dash and doors scratches extremely easily, and the upholstery snags like mad as well. The little windows on the front sides create blind spots which can be a bit of a challenge. The window sticker when I bought it said the average mpg was 30 on the highway, but I have not ever gotten above 25-26mpg. The gas tank is quite small and cruise control is not standard, neither are armrests. The car is not terribly comfortable and can be hard to handle in strong winds. The back seat does not offer much legroom, so it may not be the best option for a family car.

Hi there! I wanted to share some feedback on my car. While it has some great features, such as the fuel efficiency and comfortable front seats, there are a few things that I'm not too thrilled about. For example, the hub caps are made of plastic and the alarm doesn't include the trunk. Additionally, the rear seats do not fold down, which can be a bit inconvenient. Overall, I'm not completely satisfied with the car, but I'm hopeful that I can find a buyer who will appreciate its positive qualities. Thanks for listening!

Although the car has some positive aspects such as good sight lines and responsive manual transmission, it has been a big disappointment due to poor fit and finish. Unfortunately, after only 90,000 miles, the engine requires rebuilding, specifically the valve seals and cylinder rings. It is challenging to find replacement parts or a rebuilt motor due to Suzuki's bankruptcy and exit from the North American market. Therefore, I have decided to junk the car under CA's cash for clunkers law. However, I am confident that I made the right decision given the circumstances.

The car had some issues after 35k miles, including rear wheel bearings and front struts breaking, as well as a broken right front stabilizer bar. Although the dealership was not helpful with the warranty, I am still experiencing some clunking and rattling when turning or going over bumps. Additionally, the passenger air bag light says off even when the passenger is in the seat with the seat belt on, which is concerning. The car can be difficult to handle in snow and over bumps, but I am hopeful that these issues can be resolved. Overall, my experience with this vehicle has been poor and I will not be purchasing a Suzuki again.

The car was great for the first 15000 miles, but unfortunately, I started experiencing some rattles in the dash area. The selling dealer did not fill the windshield wiper reservoir, and they were not very helpful in resolving the issue. While the fuel economy for such a compact car is only 27mpg for me, I found that it performs well in ice and snow with studded tires and AWD and Traction control. If you roll the windows down, you can't hear anything at all. However, the windows don't defrost well, and the fuel tank is quite small. Overall, I wish I had bought a VW Rabbit.
