The Suzuki SX4 is a subcompact car and crossover produced by Japanese automaker Suzuki since 2006. A successor of the Aerio tall hatchback and sedan, the first-generation model was available as a hatchback and sedan, with the former available in both front- and four-wheel drive and as a rebadged version in Europe called the Fiat Sedici.
In 2013, the second generation was launched, called Suzuki SX4 S-Cross (or Suzuki S-Cross in India)— now exclusively a subcompact crossover SUV. The first- and second-generation SX4s sold alongside one another until 2014. The SX4 sedan was replaced with the Suzuki Ciaz. The third-generation model was introduced in 2021 as a heavily modified version of the previous model and was only produced in Hungary for the European market. For the Indian market, the S-Cross was replaced by the taller Grand Vitara.
The SX4 is an abbreviation of "Sports X-over 4 Seasons". The SX4 designation was previously used by American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the 1981 through 1983 model years for a sporty liftback model in its line of all-wheel-drive AMC Eagle passenger cars. While the "S-Cross" suffix is an abbreviation of Smart Crossover.

- Summary: The airbag sensor in the passenger seat failed. There is a known Supplemental Restraint System issue/recall in 2007-2011 Suzuki SX4s, however there has not been a recall for the 2012 model despite this being an issue beyond the aforementioned years. Affected vehicles may develop an electrical circuit disconnection within the front passenger sensing system sensor mat that is built into the front passenger seat bottom cushion. The disconnection is due to repeated flexing of the sensor mat from use of the front passenger seat. If this condition occurs, the “AIR BAG” light in the instrument cluster and, the front passenger’s seat belt reminder light will come on. Also, the “PASS AIR BAG OFF” indicator light will remain off because the front passenger air bag will remain enabled. In a frontal impact of significant magnitude, the front air bag will deploy with full force - even with a child, or small adult, in the front seat. Air bag deployment with a child or small adult in the front passenger seat increases the risk of severe injury or death to that occupant. Replacement front seats are backordered, likely because of the recall in 2007-2011 vehicles, and despite placing an order for a new seat in May 2023, I have been waiting 9 months for a pallet to ship from Suzuki. Given the danger of traveling with a passenger given the vehicle's condition, and the fact that this was a known issue for the 5 prior years of this vehicle, this is an unacceptable amount of time to wait for a replacement part, and this should be investigated as a potential necessary recall for 2012 Suzuki SX4s.

I spent a lot of time researching for the perfect vehicle, and after waiting for quite a few years, I finally found it! I was looking for a small SUV that had ample interior space, was comfortable, had a small engine with adequate power, a nice ride, good looks, and offered 2WD, AWD, and 4WD (which mine has all three, and I don't see anyone really talking much about it - I have one of the first built, do they all still have this feature?). I have never been stuck, and have had no mechanical problems. The mileage is decent for a vehicle that does so much. It was a well thought out and well-engineered product. I have even heard that it can tow 2k lbs, and they make body hitches for it. In fact, it is actually listed as 2400 lbs in some sites. Has anyone tried it yet? Maybe for short trips.

This is a great car! I've owned it for 21 months and I'm so happy with it. While it's not the best on hills, overall it's a good car. Plus, it requires almost no maintenance, which is fantastic. My car averages 24.4 miles per gallon, and it's very roomy for people of all sizes. Getting in and out of the car is a breeze, and having AWD is a real plus when the weather is bad. I'm really pleased with it!

I stumbled upon the SX4 by accident at CarMax and asked to test drive one. I was thoroughly impressed by the build quality, responsiveness, and maneuverability. It was an absolute joy to drive and the hatchback design provided great visibility. I even added optional bike racks to the rails on top, which were of very high quality and a fraction of the cost of other leading car tops. The car looks sharp and I've received many compliments on it. The upholstery is comfortable and supportive, and the fit and finish are top-notch. I particularly enjoy driving the stick shift, which shifts smoothly. The temperature gauge, time, and MPG display are very visible, and the beautiful red lighting at night is easy on the eyes. The pop-up navigation system is incredibly convenient and works immediately, with Bluetooth connection and MP3 capabilities.

This is my very first brand new vehicle purchase and unfortunately, I am quite disappointed with it. The exterior paint seems to be quite sensitive and scratches down to the metal extremely easily. I have had to pay for protectant because of bird droppings marking it. Additionally, the interior plastic on the dash and doors scratches extremely easily, and the upholstery snags like mad as well. The little windows on the front sides create blind spots which can be a bit of a challenge. The window sticker when I bought it said the average mpg was 30 on the highway, but I have not ever gotten above 25-26mpg. The gas tank is quite small and cruise control is not standard, neither are armrests. The car is not terribly comfortable and can be hard to handle in strong winds. The back seat does not offer much legroom, so it may not be the best option for a family car.

Hi there! I wanted to share some feedback on my car. While it has some great features, such as the fuel efficiency and comfortable front seats, there are a few things that I'm not too thrilled about. For example, the hub caps are made of plastic and the alarm doesn't include the trunk. Additionally, the rear seats do not fold down, which can be a bit inconvenient. Overall, I'm not completely satisfied with the car, but I'm hopeful that I can find a buyer who will appreciate its positive qualities. Thanks for listening!

Hello! I recently purchased a 2009 Suzuki SX4 Crossover and unfortunately, the airbag light has come on and won't turn off. I've done some research online and it seems like this is a common issue with Suzuki and the SX4. I have an appointment scheduled for early next week to have it looked at, but I'm a bit concerned about the safety of driving it in the meantime. I'm also experiencing some discomfort in the driver's seat, which is causing some back pain. Despite these issues, I'm hopeful that everything will be resolved soon and I can enjoy my new car. I purchased this car brand new in 2009. Over the years, I had to replace the transmission, a/c compressor, water pump, and even the engine. Unfortunately, the car also had poor gas mileage and wore out tires and brakes faster than expected, making it quite expensive to maintain. However, I am grateful that it was affordable to purchase when it was new. If given the choice, I would not buy this car again.
