The Suzuki SX4 is a subcompact car and crossover produced by Japanese automaker Suzuki since 2006. A successor of the Aerio tall hatchback and sedan, the first-generation model was available as a hatchback and sedan, with the former available in both front- and four-wheel drive and as a rebadged version in Europe called the Fiat Sedici.
In 2013, the second generation was launched, called Suzuki SX4 S-Cross (or Suzuki S-Cross in India)— now exclusively a subcompact crossover SUV. The first- and second-generation SX4s sold alongside one another until 2014. The SX4 sedan was replaced with the Suzuki Ciaz. The third-generation model was introduced in 2021 as a heavily modified version of the previous model and was only produced in Hungary for the European market. The SX4 is an abbreviation of "Sports X-over 4 Seasons". The SX4 designation was previously used by American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the 1981 through 1983 model years for a sporty liftback model in its line of all-wheel-drive AMC Eagle passenger cars. PER THE ATTACHED PDFS OF ONLINE REPAIR FORUM POSTS, APPARENTLY ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE PART OF A CIRCUIT THAT NORMALLY IS ACTIVATED WHEN ONE RELEASES THE PARKING BRAKE. ACCORDING TO THOSE WHO INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM IN SOME DEPTH (SEE THE ATTACHED PDFS), A SHORT IN THIS CIRCUIT ENDS UP CAUSING ONE OF THE TERMINALS IN THE BODY CONTROL MODULE ("BCM") TO BURN OUT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE (I) IT IS DANGEROUS TO HAVE THE REAR HATCH RELEASE AND/OR FLY OPEN WHILE DRIVING, AND (II) THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ALSO ARE DISABLED BY THIS ELECTRICAL FAILURE. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2011 Suzuki Sx4.

- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)
- Summary: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 SX4 vehicles manufactured July 16, 2009, to November 1, 2012, and 2010-2013 Kizashi vehicles manufactured October 13, 2009, to October 31, 2012. The shift selector can be moved out of the "Park" position without depressing the brake pedal.
- Consequence: If the shift selector is moved out of the "Park" position while the brake pedal is not depressed, the vehicle may unexpectedly roll, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shift selector assembly and inspect, and if necessary, replace the shift knob, free of charge. The recall began January 16, 2015. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-714-996-7040. Suzuki's number for this recall is VL.

- Summary: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 Grand Vitara and 2007-2011 SX4 vehicles. As a result, during a crash necessitating deployment, the air bag will deploy regardless of whether the front seat occupant is an adult or a child.
- Consequence: Air bag deployment with a child in the front passenger side seat increases the risk of injury to that child.
- Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners and dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion assembly (which includes the OCS sensor mat) free of charge. Sufficient quantities of parts are not currently available to fix all of the affected vehicles. Owners will be notified of the recall in October 2013 and will receive a second notification when parts are available to have their vehicle repaired. The recall began on May 23, 2014. After test driving cars for nearly a year, I finally decided on the SX4 sedan, sport SE. I compared it to other compact cars, ranging from cheap to almost $30K, and this car impressed me the most with its performance and options. The low price was just an added bonus. I found it more fun and solid feeling than a Golf that cost $8K more, with more features than a Mazda3, and better looking than a Civic!

This is definitely the best car I have ever owned (and I have owned quite a few). It drives great, has good power for a small car, is very comfortable, and the all-wheel drive is AWESOME - this car performs exceptionally well in the snow. My only complaint is that the cargo area is a little small, but other than that, it's an excellent car!

If you're in the market for a sporty compact, you should definitely test drive the Suzuki SX4. I guarantee you'll be impressed! The SX4 is a blast to drive and feels like a much more expensive small sports compact, similar to the Audi A4, Volkswagen Jetta, or Volvo S40, but at a fraction of the cost. When my wife and I were shopping around, we were considering a Jetta and a Mini Cooper, but after careful consideration, we ended up choosing two Suzuki SX4s - one hatchback (which is even cuter than a Cooper) and a sedan with the SE package. We were happy to trade in our Civic and Insight for these cars, as the SX4s are way ahead of Honda in this segment, not to mention way better looking! We've been thrilled with our decision and haven't had a single complaint.

This is my wife's new car and she absolutely loves it! She decided to trade in her pickup due to heavy driving and she couldn't be happier with her choice. The car drives very well and has great get up and go. The built-in GPS is a genius feature that saves you from having to buy an expensive radio. So far, my wife is thrilled with it. We were originally looking for an SUV or minivan for her, but when she saw this one, she said, 'this one's cute.' The price was also right for a new car and the dealer was incredibly positive and helpful. We were even surprised with a $300 gas card! If you're in the market for a nice small vehicle, definitely check it out. However, it's worth noting that the driving position may not be comfortable for taller drivers.

The car had some issues from the beginning, such as the CVT overheating and going into 2wd survival mode, and the brakes dragging. However, these were addressed by getting new disk brakes all around. After two years, the bearings started getting noisy, but they were replaced along with the brake shoes. The transmission also became noisy and the alternator had to be replaced three times. Unfortunately, the cowling directing ram air through the radiator into the throttle body became detached and overheated, but it was reconnected with duct tape. The alternator's location next to the front wheel made it vulnerable to street debris, and when the cowling became disconnected, the engine combined with the hot running transmission fried many electrical wires. Despite these issues, the car has been reliable for eleven years.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share a story with you about my 2011 Suzuki Sx4. I bought it brand new in 2012 and overall, I've been really happy with it. However, I did notice a strange smell whenever I used the air conditioner or defrost. I reached out to my Suzuki dealer and they were really helpful. They had dealt with this issue before and thought it might be related to the vapor coming back into the vent. They ran the hose to a different area and said it should be fixed. Unfortunately, the next time I used the air conditioner, the smell was still there. I contacted Suzuki again and they did their best to help, but ultimately, we had to go to arbitration. Even though Suzuki said the car was working as designed, I still felt frustrated. Despite this experience, I still think Suzuki makes great cars and I would consider buying from them again in the future.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with this car. In my opinion, it might be worth considering investing a bit more in a higher quality car. Personally, I've had some issues with this car, including needing to replace the brakes multiple times, the inner tie-rod, water pump, rear wheel assembly, 2 Catalytic Converters, and an O2 sensor. Additionally, I've never gotten better than 25 mpg. Just thought I'd share my thoughts with you!
