The Suzuki Vitara is a series of SUVs produced by Suzuki in five generations since 1988. The second and third generation were known as the Suzuki Grand Vitara, while the fourth generation eschewing the "Grand" prefix. In Japan and a number of other markets, all generations have used the name Suzuki Escudo (Japanese: スズキ・エスクード, Hepburn: Suzuki Esukūdo).
The choice of the name "Vitara" was inspired by the Latin word vita, as in English word vitality. "Escudo", the name primarily used in the Japanese Domestic Market, refers to the "escudo", the monetary unit of Portugal before adoption of the Euro. The original series was designed to fill the slot above the Suzuki Jimny. The first generation was known as Suzuki Sidekick in the United States. The North American version was produced as a joint venture between Suzuki and General Motors known as CAMI. It was also sold as the Santana 300 and 350 in Spain and in the Japanese market, it was also sold as the Mazda Proceed Levante.
The second generation was launched in 1998 under the "Grand Vitara" badge in most markets. It was accompanied by a still larger SUV known as the Suzuki XL-7 (known as Grand Escudo in Japan). The third generation was launched in 2005.
The fourth generation, released in 2015, reverted to the original name "Vitara" in most markets, but shifted from an off-road SUV towards a more road-oriented crossover style. It shares the platform and many components with the slightly larger SX4 S-Cross.
The model introduced in 2022 for the Indian market only reuses the "Grand Vitara" nameplate. It is slightly larger than the SX4 S-Cross.

But SUZUKI only has a few dealers left and none close to me so I have to drive my children in this unsafe car. So I called the dealer and they said I have to drop my car off 3 hours away and leave it for however long it takes to be repaired. And they said they have no loaner cars. They said for me to.go rent a car and then I can get reimbursed but I cannot do that I don't have the credit card neede to rent a car so I'm forced to drive this car I'm a single mom and disabled. I cannot go one hour without my car. But the recall is not being repaired because of this and my passenger airbag light comes on and off when just l Sitting still. It scares me and is unsafe. I must have some rights i figured I would start my complaint here then the govorner or bbb I'm sick of this. I have to drive an u safe car and it's not my fault I can't travel hours to drop my car at the only dealer that will fix the recall and make my car safe again k. Angry and scared.

- Summary: I bought this car used one year ago and have had to change the low beam lights twice and now they are out again. At night I drive with the high beams on and they are so weak no one can tell. Last month the engine started surging making the car try to take off wether in neutral, park or drive. I have to hold the brake very strongly to keep the car from taking off. This is extremely dangerous for obvious reasons and someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed because Suzuki will not acknowledge or fix this problem. This will be my last Suzuki product ever. I can't afford to get another vehicle right now so I'm having to drive this nightmare daily.

- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating airbag deployment, an incorrect classification may result in the passenger frontal air bag deploying even if there is a child in the front passenger seat, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat bottom cushion, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on May 3, 2019. All second letters notifying owners of the remedy were mailed by April 10, 2020. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's numbers for this recall are 4011 and 4012.

I absolutely love my GV! It has great ground clearance and an amazing turning radius! I have taken this GV through many demanding trails, mud, and snow, and it has performed better than my previous Wrangler. This little 4x4 is more capable than most people will ever need it to be. Even with the seats tumbled forward in the back, the cargo space is fantastic. I was even able to fit a king-size lazy boy recliner in there (with the back of the chair off and laying on top of the seat) without it being too tight. The proximity key is a lifesaver in the winter, as you don't have to remove your gloves to get your keys - just keep it in your pocket! I had to custom fit roof racks for my GV as I couldn't find any that fit, but with a little help from a sawsall to shorten the width on some other ones I found online, they now fit perfectly. Overall, I highly recommend this little SUV. It has been problem-free and an absolute joy to drive!

I absolutely adore this car! I bought it brand new and have had it for over a year now. It's incredibly comfortable and so much fun to drive, especially when I take it off-road. I've taken it on many out-of-state road trips and it has never let me down - always reliable and ready to go. And the best part? It's such a great car for such an affordable price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again!

I really appreciate this vehicle for its value and overall performance. It feels very sturdy on the road with no squeaks or rattles, and the handling is excellent. It is extremely comfortable on long trips, and the overall mileage is quite good. I have test driven other popular brands before purchasing, and the Grand Vitara is the clear winner by a wide margin.

The ride is truly astounding and this car boasts an impressive array of features. From climate control to all-time 4WD, anti-lock brakes, and a tire pressure monitoring system, this vehicle has it all. There is also plenty of leg and headroom, making for a comfortable and enjoyable ride. I did have the front seats altered, as they were initially uncomfortable, but this was an easy fix. By simply removing three steel rods from each seat, they became perfect and comfortable. Additionally, I had an upholstery expert add a 3-inch pad to the center console, further enhancing the comfort of this already great ride. I highly recommend purchasing this car/truck - you will not be disappointed!

This has been a good little vehicle for the most part, but unfortunately, a couple of ongoing problems have caused a lot of frustration and prevented it from being a great vehicle. The air conditioning has never worked right from the day it was new, and despite taking it to two different dealers a total of 11 times, it still isn't working. Additionally, the body cladding kept coming loose until I finally glued it back on with industrial epoxy. I must say that dealer service has been quite disappointing, especially since both dealers in my area have dropped their Suzuki franchise. I'm afraid I wouldn't consider buying another one.

I really enjoy driving the G.V., although it does consume a bit more gas than I would like. As someone who previously drove a Toyota Camry V6LE, I have noticed that the G.V. can be a bit rattly and squeaky at times, which can be a bit annoying. Overall, I would rate the quality of the vehicle between 7 and 8 out of 10. By the way, I have found that adjusting the hood latch can help with the intermittent squeak. Additionally, while the G.V. tends to spin in rain and snow when in 2wd, it handles very well in 4wd.

I love everything about my Grand Vitara except for the lousy gas mileage. Unfortunately, I only get 14-15 MPG in town, which is lower than other compact SUVs. If gas mileage is a primary concern, you may want to consider a Rav4, Vue or CR-V as they offer better fuel efficiency.

I bought my truck back in April 2009 and I have been really enjoying it. However, when the cold weather hit and I started using the heat, I noticed some issues. In late November, the motor started overheating and the thermostat had to be replaced. Unfortunately, in early December, the motor started overheating again and this time there was no heat in the vehicle. They replaced the thermostat again, but it was still overheating. Upon further inspection, they found that the head was cracked! They have had my vehicle since December 14th, waiting for parts from Japan. While I have had some mechanical and electrical problems, my biggest concern is their customer service. I have had to call them every time for an update and they have never once contacted me. I usually get their voicemail.
