The Audi S5 is one of two high-performance variants of Audi's A5. It is also the coupé, cabriolet, and five-door fastback sedan versions of the fourth-generation (B8) Audi S4 saloon and estate models.
Like all Audi "S" cars, they are only available with Audi's quattro four-wheel drive (4WD) system, here in S5 using a Torsen-based centre diff system.

- Summary: After driving for 7 to 8 minutes less that 45 mph, a yellow warning lamp and an audible warning indicating unsafe coolant temperature displayed on the dash. An overheating engine is unsafe for me and drivers near me. I immediately pulled over and turned off the A/C. I then turned on the heater, and after 15 minutes slowly drove 5 minutes to a repair shop (Import Autohaus, Hull Street). The repair shop diagnosed a defective water pump. The pump has not been inspected by anyone other than the mechanics at the repair shop.

Let vehicle cool off although it just showed coolant warning and actual engine temperature showed normal along with oil temperature. - Summary: I was returning home from visiting family. My drive was approx 140 miles home. The car was running/driving normally when I stopped at a gas station to get a snack. When I came back to my car and attempted to start it, it would not start and had camshaft and crankshaft sensor DTC's. I had to tow the car to my repair shop who determined that the issue was the rocker arms. Despite performing regular maintenance above and beyond what the manufacturer recommends, two rocker arms fell apart inside the engine (needle bearings came out) and sent metal through the engine, causing it to need to be replaced. It was later determined that this was a known issue by Audi, and that they redesigned the rocker arms at a later date. The did not issue a recall or any extended warranty for the effected models. This cost me $16,349 out of pocket to repair. I contacted Audi several times and they refused to rectify the issue. I have came across several others who have experienced the same issue. I have supporting documentation as well as part numbers and dates that I can provide upon request. This type of issue is a saftey concern because this can leave a driver stranded. When this issue happend I was over 75 miles away from home. Luckily I was able to find a tow truck and had the funds to cover the expense of having the car towed back to my home town. However, this issue could leave someone stranded in the middle of nowhere if they werent as lucky as I was.

- Summary: My 2018 Audi S5 Prestige with 59K miles meticulously maintained by the dealer had the Suspension Warning light came on about a week ago. I brought it to my local Audi mechanic and they found the right rear spring had broken about 1/3 of the way from the base and the shock had been damaged from the spring breaking. They attributed it low quality steel being used in the springs Audi is using. Luckily it was a rear spring as I understand a front spring breaking at speed could be catastrophic.

SOMETIMES IT WILL OPERATE WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION BUT IT WILL BLACK OUT WHICH ULTIMATELY IMPAIRS THE DRIVER'S ABILITY TO REVERSE AND AVOID ANY OBJECTS AND PEDESTRIANS. THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS IN HIGH-FOOT TRAFFIC AREA LIKE SHOPPING MALL. IN ADDITION, THE CAR'S LANE ASSISTANCE MECHANISM IS NOT ACCURATE AT TIMES AND COULD HAVE CAUSED ACCIDENTS SEVERAL TIMES. FOR EXAMPLE, THE SENSOR SOMETIMES WILL MIS-DETECT THE LANES AND WRONGLY DRIFT THE CAR OUT OF LANES, ALMOST CAUSING COLLISION WITH ONCOMING CARS OR ADJACENT CARS. MOREOVER, THE AUDI SENSOR WHICH DETECTS OBJECT AND BRAKES FOR THE DRIVER DOESN'T WORK TOO WELL. FOR INSTANCE, WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION, IT WILL MIS-CALCULATE THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND WILL BRAKE AND STALL THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION. ALSO, THE AUDI SENSOR WRONGLY DETECTS THE OBJECT AROUND THE CAR SUCH AS ELEVATED SIDEWALK CURBS OR FIRE HYDRANTS AND IT RANDOMLY AUTO-SLAM THE BRAKES EVEN WHILE THE CAR IS MOVING AT 30-40MPH. THE CAR WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP AT LEAST 5 TIMES TO ATTEMPT TO FIX THE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE "MOD BOX" TWICE, WHICH SEEM TO FIX MOST OF THE SENSOR RELATED ISSUES BUT ISSUES STILL ARISE AND I AM SKEPTICAL AND AFRAID OF DRIVING THIS CAR. *TR

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2018 Audi S5.

- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2017-2020 A4 Allroad, A4 Sedan, 2018-2019 RS5 Coupe, 2019 RS5 Sportback, 2018-2020 A5 Cabriolet, A5 Coupe, A5 Sportback, S4 Sedan, S5 Cabriolet, S5 Coupe, and Audi S5 Sportback vehicles. The cable connecting the seat heater to the Passenger Occupant Detection System (PODS) may have a contact fault, causing the software to misdiagnose a malfunction and disable the passenger air bag.
- Consequence: A disabled passenger air bag increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the connecting cable and either the heating mat or entire seat cover, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 7, 2022. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 74E3. This recall is an expansion of Recall 19V-547 (74D9). Vehicles previously repaired under 19V-547 will need to return for the new remedy.

(Audi) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Audi RS5 Sportback, 2018 S5 Cabriolet, S5 Sportback, S5 Coupe, S4 Sedan, A5 Cabriolet, A5 Sportback, A5 Coupe, and 2017-2018 A4 Sedan and A4 Allroad vehicles. Oxidation on the Passenger Occupant Detection System (PODS) connecting cable may cause the software to misdiagnose a malfunction and disable the passenger air bag.
- Consequence: A disabled passenger air bag increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Audi will notify owners, and dealers will install cable ties to the harness, free of charge. The recall began September 9, 2019. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Audi's number for this recall is 74D9.

I've owned several sport and luxury cars, but my 2018 Audi S5 is still one of the best. I find the acceleration, engine sound, handling, technology, and driving pleasure to be very satisfying.

This is my third Audi and each one has put a bigger smile on my face! I absolutely love the nimble, responsive, sporty, and comfortable ride. The build quality is fantastic and the acceleration and handling are top-notch. I also adore the B&O stereo and find the electronics to be very user-friendly. I previously drove an A7 and while I enjoyed it, I didn't love it. After three years, it just became a car to me. However, I've been driving my S5 for four months now and I love it more today than the day I picked it up. The performance is outstanding and it's the best drive I've ever had - even compared to Lexus, Infiniti, and BMW. Another pleasant surprise is that the highway mileage pushes 30 mpg, which is excellent for the level of performance. I highly recommend the S5 to anyone who wants great performance that puts a smile on their face.

I loved my 2010 version of this car, despite the repairs costing me more than owning a Camry for 18 years! So, I decided to upgrade to the newer version with the turbo V6 instead of the older supercharged V6. The difference in the feel of the car is dramatic. The interior has also been significantly upgraded in terms of the quality of materials and user interface (I especially love the Virtual Cockpit). I'm just hoping that I won't experience a 'mechatronic control module' failure at 40k miles like last time, as it was quite an expensive fix. Nevertheless, I wouldn't want to drive anything else right now. It's the perfect car for enjoying the sunny weather in California.

The newly redesigned Audi S5 is an absolute blast to drive. It's so good that I traded in my 2017 S6 for it!

It's worth noting that some features that come standard on Japanese competitors are only available as extra cost options on the Audi. While the base price is attractive, getting the S5 out the door can make it a less appealing value proposition. Additionally, some dealers may be less willing to offer discounts on this model, which can make it harder to find a good deal. That being said, it may be worth exploring other options to find the best value for your needs.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my S5 cabrio. I had a lot of fun driving it for 15 days, but unfortunately on day 16, the transmission broke after around 600 miles. It was a bit of a struggle to make it home, but thankfully I did. I've been waiting for almost a week now to have it replaced, but I'm still hopeful that everything will be sorted out soon. While I do have some regrets about buying it, I think leasing might have been a better option for me. Thanks for listening!

Driving this car was great. However, the trim at the bottom of the door hits you in the bottom of your calf when entering, which is a major problem. Unfortunately, this issue kept me from buying the Audi S5.
