2024 Nissan Altima problems
The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.
The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.
The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

Common 2024 Nissan Altima problems
The 2024 Nissan Altima is a mid-sized sedan competing with the likes of the Hyundai Sonata, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry. While the Altima is expected to have about average reliability compared to other new cars, there are a few common problems that have been reported by owners.
One issue that has been reported is related to the dashboard lighting up and the inability to brake while reversing. This incident occurred at around 300 miles, and while the issue has not recurred since then, it is still a cause for concern. The user was able to replicate the incident on a slope, and it was determined that they were in accessory mode, which could have contributed to the issue. Despite this, it's still recommended to take the car to the dealer for a check-up, especially since it's still under warranty.
Another issue that has been reported is related to the power steering unit bolts loosening, which can result in a loss of steering control or steering lock-up. This issue has been reported in certain 2024 Altima vehicles, and Nissan has issued a recall for this problem. Dealers will replace the steering gear assembly free of charge to fix the issue.
While there have been no major issues reported regarding the engine, interior, or driving experience of the 2024 Nissan Altima
, it's still important to keep in mind that these are common issues that have been reported by owners. It's always recommended to stay up-to-date with recalls and maintenance schedules to ensure the safety and reliability of your vehicle.

She narrowly miss being struck by another while attempting to navigate to the center lane of a busy highway with no power. Vehicle still had lights and dashboard display but would not move. After coming to a stop she turned the vehicle off completely, waited for a moment and then, attempted to start the vehicle. The vehicle started and she was able to continue traveling down the road. STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-12
- VIN: 1N4BL4BV2RN
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: There is an obvious gap in the lining of the rear upper left corner of the trim that attaches the back windshield to the top and the car and rear door. I have photos included the dealership admitted to it not existing on their other models from that year and that I was correct although they could do nothing about it because it was an obvious manufacturing defect. I have photos included... Called national Nissan help line for assistance and they called me once and never responded to my emails after that.
BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-10
- VIN: 1N4BL4EV7RN
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: The dashboard camera screen on all 2024 Altima models displays a white foggy haze, which worsens at night and obstructs and distorts image view. The issue worsens in low light (garages, nighttime) where it is difficult to recognize or identify objects. On 7/10/2024, a Nissan dealership master mechanic reported to us that all 2024 Nissan Altimas suffer from this issue; however, when asked, Nissan corporate has no remedy, repair, or replacement for the component(s), causing this white fog haze that obscures the driver's view. We were told by the dealership where we purchased the vehicle that this issue only affects the 2024 Nissan Altimas. Especially at nighttime, the white foggy haze reduces our ability to identify people and objects, posing a safety concern. There have been two incidents at night where the Cross Traffic Warning and Parking Collision Warning were activated, but the driver could not identify the warning when viewing the camera screen due to poor clarity. Our family has a different 2024 model Nissan and it does not have this camera screen obstruction issue.
STEERING,POWER TRAIN,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-09
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1N4BL4CV3RN
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN,WHEELS
- Summary: This request is due to my concern that a possible manufacturing or other defect in the 2024 Nissan Altima’s steering and/or wheel mechanisms caused a sudden loss of steering control and resulted in a collision and serious injuries. The car was taken possession by National Car Rental. I am unsure if the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others, but it has been reported to the manufacturer (Nissan), my insurance company (State Farm), and the car rental company (National). I don't think there were any warning lights. The following is what I experienced. I was driving, passengers were in the front and rear right seats. The car was in the right lane on [XXX] heading into an underpass when the Altima experienced a sudden jolt in the steering wheel with smoke coming out of the steering wheel; steering turned very stiff as if it had lost power and the car pulled to the right and off the road. I struggled to maintain control over the vehicle; nonetheless, given the narrow shoulder of the underpass and the sudden difficult steering, the car collided lengthwise along the passenger side against a cement barrier and metal guardrail. The front and back passenger-side airbags deployed, striking both passengers; rear seat passenger was seriously injured; driver and front passenger were bruised. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-11
- VIN: 1N4BL4EW8RN
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Recently purchased a new 2024 Nissan Altima SL in December 2023. Found the backup camera safety component display to have a poor-quality, low resolution, distorted image. Guidelines are not sharp and objects in the backup path are obscured and practically invisible. In the evening the view is so bad the camera is practically useless...even without bad weather. Especially at night, this can be a hinderance rather than an aid to safety. I took the vehicle in for service at the dealer in January and again in May. I was told there was no fault with the camera or display. Another same model vehicle was shown to me, but it was in the daytime and although the image was also of poor quality, they said this was normal. I was also shown a Rogue and there was an absolutely perfect image. They admitted something was different but still said the image on my car had NO FAULT. They could not do anything not even trying another camera. They said I needed to contact NISSAN. This poor-quality image was also present on the front and side cameras. My previous car was a 2019 Altima Platinum which had great camera clarity as it should be. I am beginning to believe the manufacturer received defective cameras or chose to use a lower cost camera in their vehicles. I paid a premium price for a high-tech vehicle with many safety features but received a poor-quality unsafe feature that should not be ignored.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-19
- VIN: 1N4AL4CV3RN
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: While driving, the auto spontaneously without warning has a near catastrophic failure of all systems (e.g. anti-lock brakes, emissions, control, automatic windows etc.) All warning icon lights are on the driver’s front video are displayed while a central scrolling message reports all the major systems malfunctioning (as mentioned above). The auto immediately decelerates and now can no longer go faster than 20 mph. This has twice caused the car behind me to nearly read end me. When pressing on the gas pedal (which feels like pushing down on mashed potatoes) you can not affect acceleration. At any pressure the car accelerates on its own very slowly until it reaches maximum speed. It takes about 30 – 45 seconds to go from 0-20 mph. According to invoice of the repairs the “Channel Can Gateway Internal” is faulty. Yet they have failed three times to fix it. This car has been out of service up to this date 57 days and is once again back at the service department. The auto has malfunctioned identically on Dec. 19. 2023, Dec. 27, 2023, Feb. 2, 2024 and March 8, 2024
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-15
- VIN: 1N4BL4EW7RN
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Recently purchased a NISSAN Altima 2024. Found the backup/camera safety component as well as front and side cameras extremely cloudy whether its in the day or night. Not to mention during inclement weather it gets worse. It is to the point I cannot see clearly behind or my surroundings with these cameras. Sun reflection blinds every thing making it impossible to see. Brought it up to the sales person the same day I purchased it. He mentioned it was only the protection film on the dash screen. Once removed the images would be clear. Which was not the case. Now comparing to a Sentra 2021, I previously had. The images were so much clearer. Upon taking it in to the dealership after my 1st month of purchase; the advisor straight up told me they would be unable to do anything regarding this matter. As it was due to a new manufacturer nissan was working with and not the same as before. He also mentioned i was not the only one to show the same concern. He explained whether they changed the cameras, it wouldn't make a difference at all. I would still be dissatisfied. To be quiet honest, I wonder whether these cameras even meet the Proper Safety Standards. Where I live, I depend on the cameras on a daily basis due to tight squeeze areas. Unfortunately at this time, I'm now considering buying extra cameras to help the situation I'm in. As I am now concerned that it may pose a safety. This should not be the case.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-30
- VIN: 1N4BL4EW2RN
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Backup camera is subpar. Had 2022 Nissan Pathfinder and that camera was great. My nieces 2021 Nissan Versa back up camera is better quality than mine.
SERVICE BRAKES,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-08
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1N4BL4DV4RN
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I went to stop at a stop sign and the breaks didn’t not work causing a collision, prior to I heard a loud clinking noise and my car smelled like burning rubber. Blind spot didn’t not light up accurately or notify me correctly.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-15
- VIN: 1N4BL4EV1RN
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Recently purchased said vehicle. Found the back up/camera/safety component substandard, especially when compared to other makes/models including their own Sentry. The resolution is so low that images are hard to discern; are mottled gray like a 1950 black and white movie. When backing up in low light (i.e. garage, overcast, rainy), it is nearly impossible to discern objects. I actually took vehicle in and asked them to check the camera as I thought there was something wrong with it. On line reviews of this make/model confirm the poor camera quality. This leads to the question "Does this back up camera/images even meet required safety standards?" Since the vehicle is so new, there may not be many, if any, complaints, yet. Other Nissan models (i.e. Sentry) have the expected quality camera image (i.e. discern objects and color clarity). What went amiss here and why was this important feature quality omitted from the Altima? I rely heavily on the image, especially in parking lots and where there is heavy pedestrian traffic as many other people probably do.

California 18 from Lucerne Valley to San Bernardino was quite the road test, but the Altima SL 2.5 passed with flying colors! Even when passing the cement plant at 60mph, the car held up well. Descending to San Bernardino, the Altima held the road firmly and the seats were supportive around the nonstop curves, even at high speed.

I love this car and its features, as well as its color.

During my business conference in Palm Beach County, I had the pleasure of driving a 2021 Nissan Altima. Although I was initially disappointed to not receive a Maxima, I was pleasantly surprised by the Altima's fuel efficiency. While it lacked automatic climate control, which would have been helpful in the Florida heat, I found it to be a great commuter car. Although it wasn't as powerful as I had hoped, it eventually got up to speed and kept up with the rest of traffic. The suspension was a bit bouncy, but the stereo system was fantastic, especially with the wireless Apple CarPlay. The automatic braking feature was also a great addition that I didn't even realize the car had until it stopped for me when reversing into my hotel's parking spot. Overall, I had a positive experience with the Altima and would recommend it as a reliable and efficient car for daily use.I'm so used to eyeballing it every time I park, so having that reminder not to get too close was really awesome. It was kind of scary at first, but totally worth getting used to. It's not a bad car, I just wish Nissan got rid of that god-awful CVT. I know it would be a real character with an actual transmission with drive modes.

Sleek design, roomy interior, smooth ride, paddle shifters, fast and safe. I've had Fords, Chevys, Pontiacs, Cadillacs, BMWs, Volvos, etc. and even though she's small, she's nasty. I hadn't even realized I've had her for a year and a half already!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I absolutely love my Nissan. It's fantastic on gas and can easily fit at least three people in the back. Even as someone who is 6'6, I find it incredibly comfortable.

I experienced some issues with my car such as the speakers cutting out and the seat heaters not working properly. Unfortunately, the car eventually died without any warning signs, which was quite inconvenient. I had to tow it to the dealership and miss work, but Nissan did provide some reimbursement for the rental car. The dealership replaced the battery, which fixed the speaker and seat heater issues. However, a few months later, the speakers stopped working again and the seat heaters were acting up. I took the car back to the dealership, but they were unable to find any issues. I hope to avoid any future incidents.

The vehicle is a 2024 model, but unfortunately it does not come with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Additionally, there is no unlock request switch on the door handles, so you will need to take the key fob out of your pocket every time you unlock your Altima.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the 2021 Altima. Overall, I think it's a great car that handles and drives well. However, I did run into a bit of trouble around 3,300 miles when the front camera stopped working. I reached out to the dealership and they assured me that it's nothing to worry about and that they're just waiting on a part. It's been almost 4 days now and we're still waiting, but I'm sure it will be resolved soon. Thanks for listening!

I like my car, but I have some concerns. The rocker panels on both sides have some issues with the paint, and the car is extremely uncomfortable. It's disappointing to see these problems in a brand new car.
Chaim Lakin 2024-05-08
This Altima does not meet my expectations. Despite being advertised as fully equipped, I have experienced issues with the rear window defrost not staying on in cold weather and the front window not clearing completely after two starts. Additionally, the turn signal sound is unpleasant and detracts from the overall quality of the vehicle. In comparison to my previous Rogue, this Altima falls short in terms of features and functionality. It is important to focus on the actual features rather than being distracted by superficial elements.
