- Summary: ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE HOUSING AROUND THE AIR CONDITIONER FILLS WITH WATER FROM CONDENSATION, THE DRAINAGE TUBE IS NARROW AND CLOGS, WHICH CAUSES THE WATER TO DRIP OUT OF THE HOUSING AND INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR WHERE IT SWAMPS THE CARPETING FROM FRONT TO BACK. I KNOW AC NORMALLY DOES NOT QUALIFY AS A SAFETY CONCERN BUT TO MY UNDERSTANDING THERE IS ELECTRIC WIRING THAT RUNS UNDER THE CARPET THAT IS CERTAINLY NOT DESIGNED TO BE UNDER AN INCH OF WATER AND THEN THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR HARMFUL MOLD TO DEVELOP FROM THE WET CARPET. THE DEALER WILL CHARGE TO CLEAR THE CLOG BUT THEY HAVE SINCE TOLD ME THERE IS A PERMANENT FIX (AN AC CASING WITH BETTER DRAINAGE) WHICH COSTS MORE THAN $2000 TO INSTALL. A SIMPLE SEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWS TOYOTA HAS BEEN IGNORING THIS DESIGN FLAW AND THIS PROBLEM SINCE THE MODEL REDESIGN IN 2011. THEY HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WHICH CAN EFFECT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE OCCUPANTS. I KNOW A NARROW TUBE DRAIN LINE SEEMS LIKE A MINOR THING BUT THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO HAPPEN IN MOST CARS. WHILE IT HAS BEEN A CONCERN FOR SCION TC OWNERS SINCE 2011. I DRIVE A 2014. THERE WAS PLENTY OF TIME FOR TOYOTA TO OFFER A BETTER CASING OR A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM OVER THE YEARS. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO TOYOTA AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING SINCE MY CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY DESPITE THAT MY CAR WAS IN FOR THIS TEMPORARY REPAIR SEVERAL TIMES WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY NEVER OFFERED THE PERMANENT FIX UNTIL NOW.

- Summary: I HAD AN INCIDENT OF SPONTANEOUS GLASS BREAKAGE OF THE MOONROOF ON MY 2014 SCION TC. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. I WAS IN A PARKED IN A PARKING LOT WITH THE IGNITION OFF. I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND SIMILAR TO THE SOUND OF A GUN SHOT. THE SOUND CAME FROM THE GLASS MOONROOF LOCATED BEHIND THE SUNROOF EXPLODING/SHATTERING. I WAS NOT DRIVING AND THERE WAS NO IMPACT THAT OCCURRED. THE EVENT WAS SPONTANEOUS AND HAPPENED OUT OF NOWHERE. BEING THAT I WAS STATIONARY THE GLASS IN THE MIDDLE DID NOT IMMEDIATELY FALL IN AND THE OUTSIDE EDGES HAD SHATTERED AND WHERE FORCEFULLY THROWN ON TO THE CAR AND SURROUNDING AREAS. THE MIDDLE WAS ODDLY BALLOONED/DOMED IN THE MIDDLE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS 2 MILES AWAY AND FROM THAT SHORT DRIVE THE CENTER OF THE GLASS BEGAN TO CAVE IN AND ALLOW GLASS TO ENTER INTO THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY ABOVE WHERE PASSAGES SIT IN THE BACK SEAT. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS IN THE BACKSEAT WHEN THIS HAPPENED OUR DIRECTLY OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AND WAS INJURED BY THIS. THROUGH FURTHER RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT TEMPERED GLASS CAN SPONTANEOUSLY BREAK. SOME OF THE CAUSES OF THIS TO HAPPEN INCLUDE BINDING OF THE GLASS IN THE FRAME, CAUSING STRESSES TO DEVELOP AS THE GLASS EXPANDS AND CONTRACTS DUE TO THERMAL CHANGES OR DEFLECTS DUE TO WIND. INTERNAL DEFECTS WITHIN THE GLASS SUCH AS NICKEL SULFIDE INCLUSIONS. DAMAGES ACCRUED DURING INSTALLATION. THERMAL STRESSES IN THE GLASS AND INADEQUATE GLASS THICKNESS TO RESIST WIND LOAD. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OTHER CLAIMS INCLUDING SCION TC'S AND THE MOONROOF BREAKING AND RISK OF SHOWERING GLASS ON TOP OF DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS. I WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANT TO TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT AND HAVE PUSHED IT OFF TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THE GLASS SHOP AND COLLISION CENTER BELIEVE ITS FROM THE STRESS LOAD THE FRAME PUTS ON THE GLASS THAT CAUSED THIS SPONTANEOUS BREAK.

NEITHER THE KEY FOB NOR THE SWITCH IN THE VEHICLE WOULD WORK, AND EVENTUALLY THE DOOR LOCK HAD TO BE MANUALLY OPERATED. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR BEGAN HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY CRASHES ACCORDING TO ONLINE DATABASES. NO DAMAGE TO EITHER DOOR HAS OCCURRED THAT COULD COMPROMISE ANY ELECTRICAL MECHANISM WITH EXPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS. A FRIEND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER AND WAS TOLD THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS ARE KNOWN TO FAIL IN CERTAIN YEAR VEHICLES MADE BY TOYOTA. I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS THE ISSUE WITH MY 2014 SCION TC NOW. I CAN UNDERSTAND THE PART FAILING ON HIS VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS ABOUT TEN YEARS OLD AT THE TIME, HOWEVER MY CAR IS ONLY 4-5 YEARS OLD. THE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM ON MY SCION CURRENTLY ONLY OPERATES THE REAR HATCH, FOR NOW. I AM ONLY ABLE TO SECURE MY VEHICLE IF I MANUALLY LOCK BOTH DOORS, AND THEN PRESS LOCK ON THE KEY FOB TO ARM THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. I CANNOT ACCESS THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WITH THE KEY AS THERE IS NO KEY HOLE PROVIDED ON THAT SIDE. IF SO MANY OF TOYOTA'S DOOR ACTUATORS ARE FAILING LIKE THIS, THEY SHOULD RECALL AND REPLACE THE POORLY MANUFACTURED VERSIONS THEY INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLES SINCE THE PARTS ARE SO EXPENSIVE NOT TO MENTION LABOR. MY FRIEND ENDED UP TRADING HIS 4RUNNER AND LEFT THE TOYOTA BRAND ALTOGETHER. I HAVE ALWAYS PREFERRED TOYOTA AND ACTUALLY ENCOURAGED HIM TO BUY ONE AS WELL. HOWEVER, I AM HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME CONVINCING MYSELF FROM TAKING THE SAME ROUTE AS HIM.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2014 Scion Tc.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain Toyota Racing Development (TRD) brake kits, part numbers PTR09-21111 and PTR09-52080, sold by Toyota as an optional accessory for model year 2008-2015 Scion xB, and 2011-2016 Scion tC vehicles. Over time, the brake hoses in these kits may fatigue and fail.
- Consequence: Failure of a brake hose will reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify all known owners of the Scion xB and Scion tC vehicles upon which an involved optional TRD Brake Kit could have been installed. If the vehicle is equipped with one of the TRD brake kits, it will be replaced with a standard equipment brake kit, free of charge. The recall began November 16, 2018. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is J0U.

I'm so excited about my new car! It's my first one and I absolutely love it. Before, I was driving a 2003 Toyota Celica that I liked, but it was getting old and had a lot of miles on it. On top of that, I still owed 9k for the car to JDB. But now, I've traded it in and got 3k for it, and the remaining 6k was added onto the sticker price of my new car. I'm paying about the same amount per month, but now I have a brand new car with a warranty! It's basically a Toyota, so I know it will last me a long time, and it looks amazing too. I've already turned some heads driving it around with the shiny blue paint job!

I traded in my 2006 tC for my current 2014 model, which I absolutely love! Although it's a base model and doesn't have push-start or a rear wiper, it's just as roomy as some previous comments have suggested. The seats are comfortable yet form-fitting, and in the driver's seat, it feels like a relaxed racing seat that keeps me in place. I bought this car a year ago, mostly stock (only the wheels were custom), and it now has 93,000 miles on it. It handles so well and accelerates quickly enough (I'm getting modifications as I type this). The only downside is that the economy isn't great, but it's reliable, easy to maintain/fix, and cheap to do so. It also looks great! In summary, I would love the option for heated seats and a reverse cam, but other than that, I wouldn't change a thing. I love this car and its gorgeous Cement Grey color. Plus, I've never seen another tC like it!

I love this car! I've owned six of them in my lifetime. My first Scion TC was bought in 2012, right off the lot. I was one of the first people in my state to get the Cement Gray color. I got that one how I wanted, with fog lights, spoiler, etc. Unfortunately, I was only 19 at the time and I should've treated it better. After that, I bought a dark grey 2011 one, sold it a couple of years later, and had no issues. A few years later, I bought a 2012 white one, and again, no issues. It seems like I always go back to the TC. I now have four cars, two of which are TCs (2011 & 2012), and I have no issues with them. I tinted them out and added a backup camera, and they instantly became my most comfortable and practical cars! I get great gas mileage with them, and I have had no mechanical issues to date. Maintenance is very cheap. I bought the 2012 Scion in January 2023. Since then, I've driven it to LA from Phoenix three times, to Las Vegas and back once, all around New Mexico and Mexico... It's my road trip car. It's currently in Texas, and I drive it back and forth to Austin and Dallas once a week. I have 138k miles on it, and I picked it up for $6500. It's an unbeatable value. Finding a car with a panoramic roof, excessive space, amazing sound system, good styling in conjunction with exceptional reliability in that price range is unheard of! Literally, the only car for me is the Scion TC when it comes to a daily driver, bar none! I highly recommend this vehicle.

It's great to see that some people are lucky enough to get a little more than just a basic first car. The 2014 tC has undergone a significant exterior styling change from the previous year, taking several cues from the F-rs. While some may say it's bland, I think the sharp and aggressive lines are just what this car needed. The front grille and rear diffuser are nice, but the amount of plastic used is a bit excessive. The wheels are also very nice. The interior is well laid out, and the standard touch-screen display is a great feature, although there is still a bit too much plastic. The ride is pretty good for its class, with good acceleration and above average steering.

My wife and I decided to get an economical commuter car since our kids are grown and we ride together to work. After considering a few options, we settled on a coupe. We compared the TC, Honda Civic and Hyundai Veloster. The Civic was more expensive and had similar gas mileage to the Veloster, which was comparable in price. However, the TC had a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that gave it more power. The front passenger seat was spacious enough for a rear passenger up to 6' tall, which was great for my wife who is 5'6

Plastic everywhere, but it adds to the charm. It may rattle a bit when playing music, but that just adds to the character. There is some engine vibration at idle, but it's not too bad. It could be better on gas, but it's worth it for the fun you'll have driving it.

The interior quality may not be the most inspiring, and the car may not be the most peppy even with a manual transmission. However, it's important to note that I may be overly critical since I am coming from a Camry and a Supra. I do believe that dealers could benefit from listening more to their customers. For example, when a customer says they have their own financing, it's best not to shove a credit application in their face as it can cause them to walk right out, as I did.

Hi there! I've had my car for 5 years now and I wanted to share my experience with you. Unfortunately, I've had to replace the manual transmission input shaft bearing twice in just 58,000 miles, which cost me $3,000 each time. On top of that, the cabin can be quite noisy and the ride can be a bit rough. I've also noticed that the interior door panels and sunroof tend to rattle quite a bit. However, the motor is fantastic! If you're considering buying this car, I would recommend going for an automatic transmission. Thanks for reading!
