- Summary: My scion TC is using an extreme amount of oil to where I am putting 2-3 quarts in the motor per week. The extreme usage of oil can cause the engine to blow up due to lack of oil staying in the engine. My oil light will flash after couple days indicating low oil. A dangerous situation that can happen is the engine stop working while I'm driving on an interstate and possibly cause a serious accident or even an engine fire. There was a Toyota bulletin on this issue back in 2015. My car was bought in 2013. According to Toyota, they claimed they had sent notice to the address listed under this VIN. We received no such notice and even requested Toyota prove they sent it, but they would not. When I asked them about this case in regard to this issue, they have mentioned Toyota would no longer deal with this because it was past the deadline. How can I be denied for a service bulletin if I never received the notice.

The accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle revved without moving. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle occasionally slipped out of gear and failed to exceed 15 MPH while driving. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was locked in overdrive and that the transmission needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE WITH A CLEAN TITLE CHECKED THE CAR FAX AND THERE WAS NOTHING ON THIS VEHICLE STATING THAT THE ENGINE HAD ANY WORK ASIDE OF SMALL WORK LIKE OIL CHANGES. MY VEHICLE RAN FINE AND DID NOT BURN OIL AT THAT TIME, NOW IT'S AT ABOUT 160,000 AND IT'S BURNING A FULL QUART AT 300 MILES. I WENT TO INVESTIGATE AND LOOKED ONLINE TO CHECK MY SERVICES PERFORMED AND WHEN I LOOKED AT MY SERVICES IT SAID THAT TOYOTA JUST CHANGED THE FLOOR MATS IT DIDN'T SAY THAT I WENT IN THERE WITH THE ORIGINAL ISSUE OF THE BURNING OIL AND TO GET IT TESTED AND FIXED. WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK WITH 1,200 AND THEY SAID THE CAR PASSED THE PROGRAM. AFTER 1,500 MILES, THE CAR WAS A QUART LOW ON OIL SO WE TOOK IT BACK TO TOYOTA IN SUNNYVALE, CA. THEY ADDED A QUART OF OIL AND ADVISED US TO BRING IT BACK IN JANUARY FOR A SECOND OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND THE TECHNICIAN WHO PUT TH EOIL IN BOTH AGREED THAT THE CAR IS BURNING OIL AND STATED THAT IT IS WITHIN TOYOTA'S GUIDELINES OF BURNING 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,200 MILES WHICH IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUT IN A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,200 MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RESOLVED BY TOYOTA BY REPLACING THE PISTON RINGS IN THIS MOTOR.

I purchased my 2009 Scion tC used in 2013 with around 60k miles on it. Since then, I have driven it for over 124k miles and have only had to perform regular maintenance such as oil changes, wipers, and new tires. It has been incredibly reliable and has never given me any issues. Even in the snow, which can be a challenge in northern New Jersey, my all-weather tires have allowed me to drive safely. This car is perfect for young people and I feel like I have definitely gotten my money's worth. The only downside is that the acceleration is not as sporty as the car's appearance suggests, but the gas mileage is still pretty good. Overall, it is a fantastic vehicle that I will be sad to part with when the time comes to upgrade to something bigger. Until then, I am grateful to have such a reliable and enjoyable car.

This car has some serious pep! I love everything about it. The interior is awesome, very easy to read the dials and it truly feels like a sports coupe hatchback. I used to drive a VW Jetta with 115hp and 122lb. foot of torque, but I had a problem with it not starting in cold weather. I live in Michigan, where it gets well below zero, and my Jetta wouldn't start. However, my Scion starts with ease in the same conditions. That's why I no longer own the Jetta.

Congratulations on your new car purchase! It sounds like you made a great choice. The smooth drive and great pick up make it a joy to drive. The basic model features are also a plus, and the moonroof/sunroof is a fantastic addition. While it may be a little rattly at times, it's a minor issue compared to all the great features. It's also great to hear that you were able to customize it with a spoiler. If you're looking for a small, sporty car with a nice look and smooth ride, this is definitely the car for you!

The sunroof and reclining back seats are also really nice features. I understand that the fuel economy may not have met your expectations, but overall it sounds like you're really pleased with your purchase. I'm so glad I bought my Tc! I actually paid for it before I even got to see it in person, and it did not disappoint. The beauty of its simplicity is matched by its hidden power, which I absolutely love. It's sporty and even has a back seat, which is perfect for me as a 22 year-old single father. Kudos to Scion!
