The Ram pickup (marketed as the Dodge Ram until 2010) is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Stellantis North America (formerly Chrysler Group LLC and FCA US LLC) and marketed from 2010 onwards under the Ram Trucks brand. The current fifth-generation Ram debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, in January of that year.

Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge line of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1981 model year Dodge Trucks in October 1980, following the retiring and rebadging of the Dodge D series pickup trucks as well as B-series vans, though the company had used a ram's-head hood ornament on some trucks as early as 1933.

Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year eight times; the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram heavy-duty won the award in 2003, the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and the fourth-generation Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014, and the current fifth-generation Ram pickup became the first truck in history to win the award three times, winning in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

How long will a 2015 Ram 2500 last?

Truthfully, the lifespan of any truck will depend on many factors. However, Ram trucks typically last much longer than most other new and used trucks for sale. On average, a Ram 2500 is expected to last between 230,000 to 250,000 miles, which is around 15 years of service.

Are there any problems with a 2015 Dodge Ram?

Since production began, the Ram 1500 lineup has been subject to 16 recalls, two investigations, and 789 owner complaints. Several of the 2015 Ram's recalls stem from faulty airbag inflators, safety system software, and curtain airbag assemblies.

What years should I not buy a Dodge Ram 2500?

The worst years to buy a used Ram 2500 are 2013, 2012, and 2015 due to various engine, electrical, and steering problems. With proper maintenance and care, the Ram 2500 can easily reach 350,000 trouble-free miles, but it requires following manufacturer-recommended routines.

What year Ram 2500 is the most reliable?

The RAM 2500 is famed for dependability and longevity, especially in the 2006 model year and later. If you want a powerful Cummins B Series engine, a used RAM 3500 may bring the towing or payload ratings you need, even if you go for a model from the early 2000s.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-01
  • VIN: 3C6UR4NL2FG
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: Over the past 2 years we have had issues with the front end particularly the drag link coming loose and major steering problems and major bouncing which resulted in purchasing 2 new sets of tires within 2 years. It was brought to our attention that there was a recall for the exact same issue from NHTSA Recall# V06 19V-021. Unfortunately our VIN number was not listed on the recall although our truck was having the same issue that was listed in the recall. I have contacted NHTSA and filed a safety complaint (Complaint# 11570103). Over the 2 years, we have had the drag link repaired twice which has cost us approximately $4700 in repair costs and tire replacement which could have been covered had our truck was listed under the recall. I have requested NHTSA to investigate and list our truck under the recall and is requesting refunds to the repairs I have already paid for. This request has been declined and that is not acceptable. Please add my vehicle under the recall so I can request a reimbursement. I want somebody to call me directly at [XXX] today. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-19
  • VIN: 3C6UR5FL0FG

  • VIN: 3C6UR5FL5FG
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: ABS speed sensor on. Replaced and it remains on. It causes my cruise control, traction control and most importantly 4WD to stop working. Meanwhile because of work I haven't had time to fix it till recently so all this time I have not had four-wheel-drive very bad weather. A very stupid fail safe feature, disabling 4WD over a speed sensor.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-18
  • VIN: 3C6UR5FL8FG
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Turbo Actuator for Ram 2500 has been recalled in 2022, but for some reason, my Ram 2500 from 2015 was left out of the recall. The MIL indication and subsequent codes related to this failure are the same as being reported in the Warranty Bulletin previously addressed by FCA, X99 6.7 Cummins Turbocharger Actuator Warranty Extension. I was put at risk of an accident due to this happening on expressway. I experienced a loss of power when I certainly needed it to pull over to get to the shoulder. I believe my vehicle and others that were built with these subpar actuators should have been included in this warranty extension. Please advise if further information is needed. The ideal resolution is to be included in the warranty extension of the actuator and have the appropriate part replacement for this issue. Thank you for your time into this matter, Regards, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
  • Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT
  • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
  • Consequence: Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software, inspect the BTSI, and, as necessary, replace it, free of charge. The recall began February 26, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T79.

  • Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Ram 1500, Ram 2500, and 2014-2016 Ram 3500 vehicles. Certain driving conditions, such as driving off-road or debris striking the vehicle may cause the roll rate sensor to trigger a fault within the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). If this fault occurs, the rollover side curtain air bag and the seat belt pretensioner will be disabled from deploying.
  • Consequence: If the rollover side curtain air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a crash that necessitates activation of these safety systems.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ORC software, free of charge. The recall began June 26, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T25.

  • Consequence: If the bracket components separate from the frame, the vehicle may have a reduced response to steering input, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will weld on a new track bar frame bracket or replace the frame of the vehicle, free of charge. The recall began on September 14, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S58.

These Mopar canvas seat covers were sold through Chrysler dealerships beginning October 15, 2015. The seat covers can impede the deployment of the seat thorax airbags.
  • Consequence: If the seat cover impedes the air bag deployment, the seat thorax air bags may not provide adequate protection in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of a injury.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners to remove the front seat covers and return them for a full refund. The recall began on July 1, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S30.

  • Components: EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.
  • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
  • Consequence: Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R40.

  • Consequence: Air bags that unexpectedly deploy increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Negative 2015 Ram 2500 car reviews

Despite purchasing this truck new, I have unfortunately experienced numerous recalls and seven transmission leaks, each presenting a different issue. While I have contacted Chrysler regarding these issues, their follow-up calls within days of repair seem to prioritize closing the issue rather than ensuring my satisfaction. It is unacceptable and I am disappointed. However, I remain confident in my decision to never purchase a Chrysler product again. It is my belief that they should have bought the truck back. It is worth noting that the truck has the 6.4 Hemi.

Hello! We hope you're doing well. We understand that you're currently experiencing some issues with your 2015 Ram 2500, which has only 67,000 miles on it. We're sorry to hear that the AC is not working and that the dealer service department is recommending a compressor and condenser replacement, which comes with a price tag of 2300.00. We understand that this may be frustrating, and we'd like to help you in any way we can. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

Hello! I have a 2015 Ram 2500 with the Cummings diesel and have experienced some recalls and issues with the DEF system, computer system, and lug nuts and studs. The dealership has informed me that all 8 nut systems can be difficult to remove and replace, and that this has been the case for many years. However, based on my experience working with aircraft and auto parts, I believe that this may be due to defective parts or poor maintenance, such as over-tightening with impact tools instead of using a torque wrench. Unfortunately, replacing these nuts can be quite expensive, costing around $8-10 per nut and about the same for the studs. I have had to replace my catalytic converter, DEF pump, and have had my computer reprogrammed multiple times for various issues. In my opinion, these recurring issues may classify my vehicle as a lemon. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter!

Hello! First of all, I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2015 Dodge Ram 2500. Unfortunately, I'm a few weeks outside of the corrosion warranty, and living in Michigan where there is rust hasn't helped. I've owned nothing but Ram trucks, but I'm absolutely sick and tired of them rotting out. This time, I bought a nice 2015 2500 with about 75,000 miles on it, and sure enough, in no time at all, the truck started rotting out at the wheel wells like normal. I'm extremely displeased that a $45,000+ truck will rust out in just 5 years. After this experience, I'm not sure if I will own another Dodge Ram again. However, I must say that the truck runs and drives great with no issues, plenty of power, and great mileage for what it is. Thank you for listening to my experience.

I purchased this truck with only 7800 miles on it, but unfortunately, I have experienced 4 recalls in less than a year. The factory bedliner is separating from the steel, which is causing me to miss out on using it for work. I have had to take it to the shop multiple times due to manufacturer defects, which is quite frustrating. I was disappointed to find out that a loaner is not included in the warranty, and trading it in is not a viable option due to the significant depreciation of Rams. I contacted the company to inquire about a loaner, but unfortunately, there is no loaner policy when your vehicle is in the shop, even when it is due to manufacturer flaws. I was also disappointed to find out that they wanted to patch the factory sprayed bedliner instead of respraying the whole thing, especially since I paid $600 for it. Despite these issues, I have never had this many problems with my Fords.

Positive 2015 Ram 2500 car reviews

  1. Kevon Jacobi 2024-11-10

I really appreciate this truck! It pulls and rides great, and I'm getting much better mileage than my previous trucks. Although there have been some computer flash recalls that have affected my gas mileage, the truck is still running well as of April 2019. I did notice that some of the plastic around the center console is a bit soft and the chrome scratches off easily. Additionally, the cruise control button can be a bit finicky, especially in colder weather, but once it starts working, it works without any issues. It's worth noting that this truck is actually a diesel, despite being labeled as a gas V8 at the top.

  2. Kennith Wilkinson 2024-10-02

If you're looking for a truck that can do it all, this is it! My only complaint is the gas mileage, which averages at 12mpg. RAM has always been known for their powerful trucks, and this 3500's diesel engine is no exception. I have owned several RAMs in the past, but this one is truly exceptional.

  3. Jevon Rippin 2024-08-18

It sounds like you've had a great experience with your vehicle so far! While it may not be the most comfortable for long distance driving, it's great for hauling loads and towing. It's good to hear that you feel safe and enjoy driving it. I appreciate your honesty about the seats lacking a bit of comfort, but it's great that you were able to find a solution with a seat cushion for lumbar support. Thank you for sharing your experience, it's helpful to hear from someone who has put 60K miles on it. Your mileage may vary depending on your size and needs.

  4. Reed Kautzer 2024-08-01

It's a shame that paint chips so easily these days, they just don't make them like they used to. However, the Power 6.4 engine is still great!

  5. Camden Deckow 2024-06-11

Hey there! I just wanted to share with you that I bought an amazing 2015 Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel 4x4 Laramie Limited with a beautiful leather interior back in December 2014. It has been such a reliable and hardworking truck, not to mention it looks great too!
