2019 Ram 2500 problems
The Ram pickup (marketed as the Dodge Ram until 2010) is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Stellantis North America (formerly Chrysler Group LLC and FCA US LLC) and marketed from 2010 onwards under the Ram Trucks brand. The current fifth-generation Ram debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, in January of that year.
Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge line of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1981 model year Dodge Trucks in October 1980, following the retiring and rebadging of the Dodge D series pickup trucks as well as B-series vans, though the company had used a ram's-head hood ornament on some trucks as early as 1933.
Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year eight times; the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram heavy-duty won the award in 2003, the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and the fourth-generation Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014, and the current fifth-generation Ram pickup became the first truck in history to win the award three times, winning in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-26
- VIN: 3C6UR5GL8KG
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: On June 26, 2024 during a long road trip, the vehicle lost power repeatedly in the middle of an area with no road service. It put my safety and that of my passenger at risk on the highway as losing power suddenly causes danger in fast-moving traffic causing the risk of potential collisions with other vehicles. There was no warning lamp indicating the failure would occur. To this date, the dealer has not fixed the issue. After approximately three weeks, I picked up the vehicle after it as allegedly repaired (at that time the dealer stated it was an electrical issue). The vehicle failed again not more than one-half mile from the Omak Dodge service center placing my safety at risk yet again. I managed to get the vehicle back to the service center at which time, the dealer stated after consultation with RAM technical support, that the issue was a failure in the fuel system. The dealer claims that the problem was the failure of a fuel injector/pump that caused particulate matter to contaminate the entire fuel system. Being that it was allegedly a power train failure, it was to have been covered under the power train warranty. After approximately three months of delay, the dealer stated the truck was repaired. On arriving at the dealer to pick up the truck, the dealer stated it wasn't repaired and had an exhaust issue. The truck remains at the dealer to this date, October 25, 2024. The dealer states that the exhaust issue is yet another issue with the truck that is covered under a warranty voluntarily extended to 10 years by RAM.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-13
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 3C6UR5FL9KG
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Initially I witnessed a large volume of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe when pulling up to fuel pump. A passer-by informed me that there were flames underneath the truck on the passenger side. I then got out of truck, stooped down to look underneath, and observed a hose leading from the exhaust system on fire and multiple exhaust components glowing red hot. After getting my passenger out of the truck I got back in, put it in drive and pulled forward away from the fuel pumps and made it about forty feet before truck engine stalled. I then proceeded to get a fire extinguisher from the fuel pump lanes and extinguish the fire and directed the remaining agent at the hotspots to cool them. After the fire department ensured the vehicle was safe to move it was towed to the local RAM dealership where it is now awaiting service technicians to inspect the damage after the weekend.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-26
- VIN: 3C6UR5JL1KG
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The contact engaged the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance for the repair. The failure mileage was 12,000.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-15
- VIN: 3C6UR5DL2KG
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I had recall work done on my truck on 3/2023- it is not listed on your website that anything has been fixed on my truck. My truck quit working 5/2023 and has been at my personal shop since then. They ended up doing the same work as the recall that was performed on 3/2023 and is not working still. I looked up on the website and our vehicle is showing no recalls were done on this truck. The dealership is having me jump through hoops to have them take the vehicle back to try to fix the recall that my personal dealership said was wrong with the vehicle.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-18
- VIN: 3C6UR5NL9KG
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Service ESC flashing on the dash intermittently. If I am in cruise control when it happens vehicle abruptly disables cruise control. Codes when ready are U0002 and U0212. Same problem happened about a year ago, dealer reflashed ABS and sent me on my way. I informed them of other similar trucks experiencing the same issue and that it wasn't a reflash issue. Had them document my concerns that it would just happen again after warranty...I was right.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-09

Not feeling secure in driving vehicle with kids or myself, dealer was advised and would not replace it unless i paid for it $1000.00 and they charged $200.00 to diagnose the issue that is considered a safety problem. Warning lights all over the dash, not safe driving. They are telling me its the occupant restraint module thats faulty
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-17
- VIN: 3C6UR5NL0KG
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: I just bought this truck used, remotely, sight unseen. Dealership that sold me this didnt mention this or any other issues with the truck!! When cornering, sharp or gradual at any speed, the wheel jerks back and forth, or jerks. Very unsafe feeling. And could easily cause truck entering opposite lane. Took this to the dealer locally and they confirmed that have heard of this issue before, said a new steering box will likely correct problem. This was also confirmed by my diesel mechanic.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-06
- VIN: 3C6UR5JJ1KG
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: Rear window mass water leak. Ram currently has a recall for certain models leaking rear window (spoke to Ram and my vehicle does not fall under the recall). There is also a class action lawsuit regarding the leaking rear windows on Ram. My concern is an electrical fire as I am driving due to the amount of water I found in the cab. As well as the mold and oder it's going to create.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-01
- VIN: 3C6UR5CL1KG
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: While towing a roughly 13k pound camper with my family from Texas to New York and back , I lost trailer brakes, traction control , cruise control and my trailer brakes. The trip included ice, rain, snow. We had a death in the family and the trip did not include the time to take to have this problem troubleshot. Literally one of the scariest trips ever through different elevations and traction levels. These would’ve all been just fine had the systems worked correctly. The truck only had 35,000 miles at the time. Of course by the end of this trip I was now out of warranty. ( so I think) I don’t know. With as common as this issue is , I don’t know what to do. I plan on keeping this truck but I do not anyone else drive it due to the safety concerns. As a combat veteran I’m used to doing sketchy stuff. But it’s not right. It’s dangerous. The issues continue intermittently and never when the diagnostic is available.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-17
- VIN: 3C6UR5FLXKG
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: On September 17th 2023 I was traveling on [XXX] W. Bound leaving Altamont pass coming down the grade entering Livermore, California traveling approximately 65 - 70 MPH in the far left lane when I experienced what the motor industries refer to as "Death Wobbles" it has since happened 2 times to date!! Luckily no one including my self was injured in the incident!!!! I spoke to a few other owners of a 2500 Ram truck the years vary between 2018 through 2020 and was told that this was a problem and there was a recall!!! I bought my truck used on 04/02/2022 with the odometer reading "37,947" with only one previous owner!!! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-24
- VIN: 3C6UR5FL1KG
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: Component/System Failed:The stability control system, and subsequently, the cruise control system of my 2019 Ram 2500 malfunctioned. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risks:The malfunction posed a significant safety risk as it occurred multiple times while driving at speeds of 50mph to 74mph. The unexpected failure of the stability control could lead to a loss of vehicle control, especially at high speeds, increasing the risk of an accident. Additionally, the deactivation of cruise control without warning could lead to sudden changes in vehicle speed, potentially surprising the driver and leading to unsafe driving conditions. Reproduction of the Problem & Inspection by Manufacturer/Other Parties: The truck is currently at AutoNation Ram 265 Drivers Way A, Hardeeville, SC 29927 Warning Signs: None Best Assessment of Incident and Cause: Unknown, but this began occurring after the replacement of the recalled high pressure fuel pump.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-26
- VIN: 3C6UR5FL3KG
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Major water leak under passenger dash. Turned and can hear water sloshing then it all dumps out on the floor while driving. Front carpet and mats are soaked. Rear windows also leak above both seats, visible water damage to the headliner.
WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-22
- VIN: 3C6UR5DL0KG
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: TPMS system has stopped working and is not related to the sensors in the tires. All 4 sensors read with a handheld scanner but the system does not operate as it should. Dealership has checked the system and said the system is working as it should, yet the system is inoperable. This is a serious safety issue as anyone driving the vehicle will be unaware if there is a low tire and can lead to a blowout.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-29
- VIN: 3C6UR5SL9KG
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: The dash leather is bubbling up across the entire top of dash. With this happening it causes a huge concern over airbag deployment. Due to the dash cover being weakened from the bubbling, if I were to get into an accident with a passenger then the airbag would have less restriction for deployment which could cause further harm to my passenger. Manufacture is not covering under warranty because they say it is cosmetic and not a safety concerns. My concern is that I believe the dash should be 100% intact before driving down the road due to the possibility of an accident occurring.
ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-23
- VIN: 3C6UR5DL3KG
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: My truck began idling hard and stalling out. I've contacted the local dealership multiple times to have the recall fixed for the CP4 fuel pump replaced and software updated and keep getting told they don't have the parts. I'm now having to schedule to have the truck looked at out of my pocket.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-01
- VIN: 3C6UR5HJ4KG
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the rear tailgate door had become extremely difficult to close and had erroneously opened while driving. Eventually the failure had become progressively worse, and the door would no longer close securely. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 10,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-02
- VIN: 3C6TR5EJ4KG
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: SYMPTOM: Driver side vanity mirror light and garage door (homelink) stop working with a short time period where they will work if held in a certain position. This is the second time this has happened, with the first time being under warranty (mileage estimated at 32000). I am well past warranty period. I disassembled the visor to find 2 frayed wires and a wire that has been severed at the point they entered the visor chamber from the guide tube (IMG_1819, IMG_1817, IMG-1821, &IMG-1820). In my opinion there is a flaw in the exit port that cause the wires rub against a relatively sharp tube edge as the visor is extended/retracked with no exit relieve, just some thin ineffective cloth tape, obiviously. FYI, the wires were pulled through the rod to better expose the damage. You can see some blackish residue on the wires of that thin cloth tape that was peeled back to view the damage (IMG_1817 & IMG_1822). While the images do not show it, the wires were routed through the channels of the visor caps as evident in curved cables in IMG_1821. My concern is that the frayed wires will cause a fire, personal shock or short circuit the vehicle while in operation, regardless of being a fused circuit. None of which has happened in my case. The visor has been replaced in the vehicle but NOT connected to power and as of this submission is available for inspection if needed. I have not contacted MFR
ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-19
- VIN: 3C6UR5SL6KG
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I’ve been waiting for a recall fix for the Y78 on my Ram Cummins. My dealer keeps saying they only get in a couple of the high pressure fuel pumps every few weeks. I’ve started the process back in December with no estimated wait time other than it will be many months before they fix it. I know many people who have but a direct replacement pump that will remedy the problem and have been reimbursed for parts and labor. My really helpful dealer this morning told me to contact NHTSA and file a complaint about how to go about the reimbursement process to get it fixed myself or provide me other options to get it fixed. Any help would be appreciated.
FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-01
- VIN: 3C6UR5CL8KG
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V880000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-10
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 3C6UR5NL5KG
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Continuation to NHTSA ID # 11511305 Adding some more details and photos of the Fire. (2019 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins Diesel engine) This is to describe the time frame from the start of the vehicle to when the fire department put out the fire. I have a store receipt that time stamps my checkout time at 2:11p CT, from the time I left the store, loaded my purchases into the truck, started and drove the car a very short distance, when the smoke started to pour out of the inside ventilation system, I pulled the truck over to the side of the road, got out of the truck and called 911 (time stamped from my phone was 2:29p CT. (18 minutes from checkout to 911 call. I Took a picture of the truck after the fire department put out the fire (time stamped 2:38p CT (9 minutes from the start of the 911 call). Adding some pictures of the burnt-out truck. What shows is that the fender on the driver’s side took the brunt of the heat, where all the electrical systems reside. Telling me that this was the main section that started on fire (possibility that the Heater Grid). This was definitely an electrical fire, given the smell and smoke that poured into the truck. I know there is a current recall by the auto maker. I think they should re-evaluate they years that this recall should affect, since my 2019 has the same parts used as the 2021-2023’s. Given the pictures below and the disaster that this caused, we were pretty lucky that it was just me and my wife in the vehicle. We were able to find a spot to pull over so it wouldn’t affect other traffic. What if we were stuck on a highway, in traffic, pulling a trailer in a rural area, who knows what else could have happened. The stress of this is overwhelming, something that I will relive over and over again. Photos and Fire Report attached.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-21
- VIN: 3C6UR5PL0KG

- Summary: I have been put off by RAM for 2 years now on three different recalls. I've attempted to get several dealerships to fix them. The most recent dealership, Greenville Tx Dodge RAM, [XXX] @ [XXX] tells me that I am on 'a list' to be called when they have the parts. I've been on 'the list' since Dec 2022, originally committing to a 2-3 month wait. Today I've been told at best, another 2-3 months. Recall ZB8/22V-904 Tailgate latch alignment Recall Y78/21V-880 High Pressure Fuel pump Recall W24/20V-207 Bed Step (Safety) Manufactures should be required/held accountable for completing recalls in a timely manner. SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-01
- VIN: 3C6TR5EJ7KG
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: Front driver side seat belt does not retract/lock as it should. I'm worried for our safety if an accident occurs and the seatbelt does not hold driver in place. Has not been seen by dealer due to dealership wanting me to pay out of pocket. First started a few months back and has not resolved its self.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-10
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 3C6UR5NL5KG
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: March 10,2023 2019 Ram 2500 Cummins 6.7L Diesel I picked up my truck from the dealership this morning, after they did the outstanding CP4 fuel pump recall. I drove the vehicle home (approx 20) miles. Parked the car in the driveway for about 3 hours. Then took a short trip to the store. After the store, when leaving the parking lot I noticed an electrical/plastic smell. Within in seconds smoke started to come through the air vents. I pulled the truck over, turned off the truck, open the hood when fire exspelled from the engine compartment. Immediately call the fire department. They arrived in minutes to put out the fire, but at that point the whole front end of the truck was on fire and smoking (dense white/gray smoke). Then there was a loud burst of flame that came from the engine compartment. The fire worked its way into the cab compartment, burned it completely. The truck is totaled.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-01
- VIN: 3C6UR5FL9KG
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: RE: "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA. This recall was issued in November 2022. My local dealer, Carson Dodge in Carson City, Nevada, will not honor the recall and will not fix my vehicle. I have repeatedly asked for the repair and keep getting blown off, telling me I'm on an indefinite waiting list. I insisted once to confirm I am on the waiting list and where I am at. I was told my car would be repaired in February 2023. February came and went and they still refuse to repair the car or provide a date when the repair might be possible. The fuel pump has now failed and the car has been dead in my driveway for a week and a half. I am without my primary means of transportation to get to work. Calls and emails to the service manager at Carson Dodge have been ignored and unanswered. I am reaching out to you to request assistance. The dealer will not fix the car and will not communicate with me. The car is non-operational now and will have to be towed. I desperately need my vehicle and I am respectfully requesting assistance with a recalcitrant dealership.

I switched from a diesel to the 6.4 hemi. The hemi doesn't disappoint with its towing power. The interior is comfortable and I love its design. My only complaint is that the body seems to dent easily.

I would do it again! While I usually prefer leasing cars, I knew I wanted to own a truck. After months of research and test drives, I chose the 2019 Tradesman with the Power Wagon package. Now, with 10,000 miles under my belt and continued research and comparison of current 2020 and 2021 models, I am confidently assured that I made the proper choice. Please keep in mind that my opinion is based solely on the Tradesman with the Power Wagon package.

The 2019 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi in Patriot Blue is a great choice! It comes with four-wheel drive and an auto start system for a fifth wheel plate. The truck also includes a tonneau cover that came with it. The interior is very comfortable with great seats and the technology is pretty good. Additionally, it has a block heater to keep you warm in the winter!

I'm glad to hear that you love it!

I think there might be some room for improvement, especially since the blocks come from Mexico. Thanks for listening!
