Plymouth Voyager is a nameplate for a range of vans that were marketed by the Plymouth division of Chrysler. From 1974 until 1983, the Voyager was a full-size van, sold as the counterpart of Dodge Sportsman (later the Dodge Ram Wagon). Starting with the 1984 model year, the Voyager was marketed as one of the new Chrysler minivan, along with the Dodge Caravan. As a minivan, there were three generations of the Voyager from 1984 until 2000. Following the closure of the Plymouth division in 2000, the Voyager was marketed under the Chrysler brand as a lower-trim version of the Chrysler Town & Country through 2003.
From 1988 through 2016, Chrysler used the Chrysler Voyager name for export-market minivans; during the existence of the Plymouth brand, export-market Voyagers were produced with the body and trim of the Dodge Caravan. Including the Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan with their rebadged Chrysler, Lancia, and Volkswagen variants, the Chrysler minivans collectively rank as the 13th best-selling automotive model line worldwide.
The Plymouth Voyager minivan was assembled by Chrysler at its Windsor Assembly facility in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; from 1987 to 2000, the Voyager was also assembled at Saint Louis Assembly in Fenton, Missouri (North plant from 1987 through 1995; South plant from 1996 until 2000).
The full-size Plymouth Voyager van was assembled from 1974 until 1983 at the Pillette Road Truck Assembly in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and at the St. Louis North Assembly Plant in Fenton, Missouri.

- Summary: THIS LETTER IS REGARDING A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE 2000 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER AND 2000 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VANS. *BF THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLES IN WET WEATHER. WHEN IT RAINS AND THE DRIVER GOES THROUGH WATER, THE VEHICLES SHUT THEMSELVES DOWN COMPLETELY. LIGHTS TURN OFF, POWER STEERING IS ARRESTED, AND THE DRIVER HAS TO COAST TO A STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES TO MY PARENTS, AND MORE THAN ONCE, THEY HAVE HAD TO SECURE THE SERVICES OF A TOWING COMPANY TO GET THE VEHICLE(S) HOME OR TO A REPAIR SHOP. SO I TURNED THE VAN OFF AND I CALLED A FRIEND WHO IS A MECHANIC AND HE ASKED ME IF THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYED ON EVEN AFTER I TURNED THE VAN ON AND OFF I SAID YES THEN I EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO HIM. HE TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO TRY MY CRUISE CONTROL. AND IF IT DID NOT WORK THEN MY CLOCKSPRING IS GONE. WELL CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK. AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS STILL ON.

IF THE INCORRECT NUT WAS TO BECOME LOOSE, THE JOINING MEMBERS MAY LOOSEN LEADING TO A SEPARATION OF THE BALL JOINT. THIS MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
- Remedy: FEDERAL MOGUL WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE PARTS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 22, 2008. OWNERS CAN CONTACT FEDERAL MOGUL AT 877-489-6659.

Your old minivan sounds amazing! It's impressive that it has over 265,000 miles and you still drive it every day without any issues. You must take great care of it with regular maintenance. Even with that many miles, you still get great gas mileage, which is fantastic. It sounds like you made a great choice when you got it!

After owning the vehicle for three years and driving 47,000 miles, the Service Engine Soon light started to come on and off. I took it to the dealership, and the computer indicated that it was a Vapor Silonoid issue. After a quick fix that cost $150.00, I was on my way. However, upon arriving home, the Service Engine Soon light came back on. Unfortunately, this issue is not covered under the Chrysler Extended Warranty that I purchased. This vehicle has already been to the dealer for a variety of other problems, so if you are considering buying one, good luck. I have had bad experiences with American-made cars in the past, and I am disappointed once again. I will not be purchasing one again.

We absolutely love this van! It has been with us for 200 out of the 250k miles and it has never let us down. The 3.8 liter engine is incredibly powerful and reliable. Although the A/C needed some work, it's understandable given how much we've used it. We are reluctantly planning to get a new (used) van, probably my daughter's Mazda MPV, but it's going to be hard to say goodbye to this faithful van. It has all the bells and whistles and they still work perfectly. It's just getting old and some parts are starting to wear out, like the radiator this week. However, this van will always hold a special place in our family's heart as a truly great vehicle!

I bought this vehicle new in 1998. It has been through 95,000 miles, many long distance trips, hauled kids to college and back, sat in office parking lots hundreds of days, and it is still reliable, relaxing to drive, and pretty. The quad seats in back and the two sliding doors are its most valuable assets, as well as the cargo room. I like it so much that I plan to buy another mini van.

It has been driven over 160,000 miles on the original engine and transmission and still runs great. With 20 mpg, no rust, and a good AC/heater, it's a great choice for anyone in need of a reliable vehicle.

Van has had some mechanical issues, including oil leaks and problems with the air conditioner. Unfortunately, the vehicle experienced some of these issues just after the warranty period ended. Despite this, I am hopeful that we can find a solution to these problems and get the van running smoothly again.

I would recommend against purchasing a Plymouth Voyager. By the way, remember to replace your smoke alarm battery when you set your clocks for DST, and replace the transmission when you change the oil. Despite the fact that this van has not been the most reliable, it has served me well.

Has anyone else experienced transmission problems with a Chrysler product? It seems like every Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, or Jeep between 1989 and 2000 has needed one. Unfortunately, my family's brand new van was no exception. We've had nothing but issues, including an engine replacement ($2400), transmission replacement ($1800), and 4 air conditioning compressor replacements ($1200 each). Despite thousands of dollars in mechanical repairs, we still had to sell it half-dead at 138,000K with no air, and it even backfired on the highway. We always had maintenance done at the dealer, but it still didn't help. If you're considering a Chrysler, I highly recommend investing in an extended warranty. Alternatively, you may want to consider a Toyota to avoid engine and transmission repairs altogether.

I bought this van used with 100,000 miles and it now has 191,000. Over the years, I've had to replace the tires, struts, shocks, bearings, brakes, rotors, tie rods, and even the front anti-sway bar snapped. I've also had to replace the starter and most of the A/C components. Despite some rust, the van still looks okay, but I do put on 35,000 miles a year. I only paid $4,200 for it and have invested $1,800 in keeping it safely and mechanically sound. The only thing I don't like is the 3.3 engine and transmission leak, but with 191,000 miles, it's cheaper to pour than to repair. I tow a 3,300lb boat and snowmobile and it does everything I need. This is actually my third Chrysler mini-van and I would definitely buy a fourth!
