Plymouth Voyager is a nameplate for a range of vans that were marketed by the Plymouth division of Chrysler. From 1974 until 1983, the Voyager was a full-size van, sold as the counterpart of Dodge Sportsman (later the Dodge Ram Wagon). Starting with the 1984 model year, the Voyager was marketed as one of the new Chrysler minivan, along with the Dodge Caravan. As a minivan, there were three generations of the Voyager from 1984 until 2000. Following the closure of the Plymouth division in 2000, the Voyager was marketed under the Chrysler brand as a lower-trim version of the Chrysler Town & Country through 2003.

From 1988 through 2016, Chrysler used the Chrysler Voyager name for export-market minivans; during the existence of the Plymouth brand, export-market Voyagers were produced with the body and trim of the Dodge Caravan. Including the Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan with their rebadged Chrysler, Lancia, and Volkswagen variants, the Chrysler minivans collectively rank as the 13th best-selling automotive model line worldwide.

The Plymouth Voyager minivan was assembled by Chrysler at its Windsor Assembly facility in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; from 1987 to 2000, the Voyager was also assembled at Saint Louis Assembly in Fenton, Missouri (North plant from 1987 through 1995; South plant from 1996 until 2000).

The full-size Plymouth Voyager van was assembled from 1974 until 1983 at the Pillette Road Truck Assembly in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and at the St. Louis North Assembly Plant in Fenton, Missouri.

  • VIN: 1P4GP44G2XB
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
  • Summary: I'VE PURCHASED A 1999 GRAND VOYAGER AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE STRUT TOWER WAS ROTTING OUT AND THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS STARTING TO RUST AS WELL , BUT NOT TO THE DEGREE AS THE DRIVERS SIDE.. I LOOKED UP AND FOUND NO RECALL THIS SITUATION, BUT WAS INFORMED THAT CHRYSLER ,PLYMOUTH , DODGE , KNEW ABOUT THIS SINCE 1996 BUT DID NOTHING TO CORRECT IT UNTIL 2001. I ENJOY MY VEHICLE BUT THE REPAIRS FOR THIS PROBLEM ARE A BIT TOO MUCH FOR ME AT THIS TIME DUE TO MY DISABILITY ,AND THE FACT THAT I AM ON A VERY LIMITED INCOME. IS THERE ANY ONE THAT CAN ASSIST ME IN GETTING MY VEHICLE REPAIR? *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2013-09-20
  • VIN: 2P4GP44R6XR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
  • Summary: THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER TO BE FIXED. HAD CLASSIC "NO AIRBAG, NO HORN, NO CRUISE" SYMPTOMS. DEALER REPLACED AIRBAG CLOCKSPRING, BUT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM OF "NO AIRBAG". THE DEALER'S STANCE IS "WE DON'T TROUBLESHOOT, WE ONLY REPLACED THE PART." THEY LET THE VEHICLE LEAVE THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION WITHOUT NOTIFYING THE CUSTOMER OF AN ISSUE, WHICH WAS ONLY DISCOVERED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP. DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE CLOCKSPRING, AND INSISTS ON A DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO TROUBLESHOOT AN ISSUE THAT I HAVE ALREADY DIAGNOSED MYSELF. I ENDED UP HAVING TO OBTAIN A REPLACEMENT CLOCKSPRING ON MY OWN, AND FIT IT TO THE VEHICLE. THE AIRBAG, HORN, AND CRUISE CONTROL NOW WORK ON THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-05-28
  • VIN: 1P4GP44R8XB
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: WHILE DRIVING ALONG AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE GAS GAUGE SUDDENLY WENT FROM 1/4 TO ZERO. IN ADDITION THE TACHOMETER WENT TO ZERO , THE TEMP GAUGE WENT TO THE OFF GAUGE AND THE SPEEDOMETER WENT TO 120 AND STAYED THERE. THE ABS LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND STAYED THERE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT AND MY RESEARCH REVEALS THAT IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND DUE TO POOR COLD SOLDER JOINTS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CIRCUIT BOARD. MULTIPLE VEHICLE OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE PAID FOR REPAIRS THAT THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD PROBLEM. IF THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE PRODUCTION IT SEEMS REASONABLE THAT THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIXED AT NO COST TO THE VEHICLE OWNER. NOT KNOWING VEHICLE SPEED, FUEL LEVEL, ENGINE TEMP IS A MAJOR HAZARD AND AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-10-27
  • VIN: 2P4GP2434XR
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
  • Summary: VAN WAS BOUGHT PRIVATELY IN SUMMER OF 2008. DURING THE FIRST ROAD TRIP WITH THE VOYAGER, THE TRANSMISSION WENT AND WAS REPLACED WITH A REBUILD TRANSMISSION. IN SEPTEMBER OF THAT SAME YEAR, FUEL PUMP AND BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER, HEAD GASKET BLEW, WAS REPAIRED BUT DAMAGE TO ENGINE WAS UNKNOWN. IN WINTER OF 2008, REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH OIL & BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT FROM CALIPERS. BRAKES ALWAYS NEEDED SOME TYPE OF WORK: PADS, DRUMS, BEARINGS, CALIPERS. IN 2009, WATER PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED, YET VAN STILL FELT HOTTER THEN WHAT IT READ. EXHAUST STARTED COMING THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE VENTS .IT WAS REPAIRED, BUT STARTED AGAIN. FOUND HOSES GETTING HOLES BURNT THROUGH, AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. IN 2010, REPLACED HEADLIGHTS, BUT NIGHT TIME ILLUMINATION WAS STILL POOR, EVEN WITH HIGH BEAMS ON. BATTERY NEEDED TO BE JUMP STARTED MORE & MORE, AND AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF BATTERY ACID HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM A TERMINAL. THE BATTERY ACTUALLY LOOKED LIKE IT HAD BEEN BURNT. MORE LEAKS FOUND CAUSED BY HOLES THROUGH HOSES. YET AGAIN, THE WATER PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED IN JULY. THEN IN OCTOBER 2010, THINGS GOT VERY SCARY, THE SERPENTINE BELT FELL OFF FOR THE FIRST TIME WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 10KM, WHILE TURNING UP INTO THE DRIVEWAY. I COULDN'T COMPLETE THE TURN DUE TO THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND WAS ALMOST HIT HEAD ON BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE BELT WAS PUT BACK ON. 2 DAYS LATER THE BELT FELL OFF AGAIN, & AGAIN. MECHANIC REPLACED BELT AND PARTS, DROVE AROUND LIKE CRAZY & THOUGHT PROBLEM WAS FIXED. 6 WEEKS AFTER, SERPENTINE BELT FALLS OFF AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, DURING A SNOW STORM, ON A CANADIAN ROCKY MTN HIGHWAY, WITH FULL ELECTRICAL SHUT DOWN OF VAN, LIMITED CELL PHONE SERVICE, AND OUR 4 SMALL CHILDREN. THIS INCIDENT WAS EXTREMELY UNSAFE, DANGEROUS, SCARY, AND EXPENSIVE! 3 WEEKS LATER, HEAD GASKET BLOWS AGAIN, AND THE VAN IS DONE.

Negative 1999 Plymouth Grand voyager car reviews

  1. Brendan Boyer 2024-07-26

The vehicle was purchased in February 2000 with 24,000 miles on it and had been a reliable mode of transportation until the transmission failed at 69,000 miles while traveling at 35mph. The differential caused significant damage to the transmission, creating a 6

  2. Emerson White 2024-07-05

The thing I'm mainly concerned with is the area around the strut on drive front is rusted out on mine. The safety factor is a big concern as a big hole can be seen from under the hood. Do you know if there is a recall for this issue? If mine is that way, there must be others also. Otherwise, the van is fine.

Hi there! I noticed that you had to replace the transmission twice, and that the brake system components may not be as reliable as you'd like. Additionally, you mentioned that the 3.3 Chrysler engine doesn't quite have the horsepower you need, and that the spare tire rack can't securely hold a full size tire. Lastly, I understand that the seats can be quite heavy and cumbersome to lift out if you need more room, and that the sound system could use an upgrade. Thanks for sharing your feedback with us!

I bought my van in 2001 with 60,000 miles. Since then, I have had to rewire the engine compartment ($800) and replace the A/C ($1200). Currently, I am experiencing some trouble with the power window. My previous van, a 1992 Grand Voyager, lasted for 130,000 miles, but I had to replace the transmission and A/C on it as well. Overall, I think it's a decent van with plenty of room and power. However, for my next van, I am considering Toyota, Honda, or Nissan. I apologize to GM, Ford, and Chrysler, but I believe they need to build better cars!

The vehicle was purchased in February 2000 with 24,000 miles on it and had been a reliable mode of transportation until the transmission failed at 69,000 miles while traveling at 35mph, resulting in a complete loss of control. The differential caused a 6

Your vehicle is really good and reliable for the most part. Unfortunately, the transmission went at 87,000 miles, which was a big disappointment. It cost $2,000 to fix, and the garage said that Mopar transmissions are not very good.

We've had this van for almost 3 years, and it has been incredibly reliable. Even now, at 132,000 miles (!), it's just starting to have minor issues like brakes going wrong. It's been a joy to drive, with a smooth ride and easy handling. I haven't regretted this purchase for even a minute.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. It has 110,000 miles on it and it still feels very solid. Most of the original equipment is still intact, including the brake rotors, struts, shocks, and more. However, I have noticed one design flaw that has caused me some trouble. The drink holders are placed in a way that can cause drinks to splash up on the temperature controls, which can lead to sticking and malfunctioning. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my new car. I purchased it with the Expresso Package and it has all the features I was looking for. It was a bit pricey at $28,000, but I believe it was worth every penny. The car is incredibly comfortable and spacious, making it perfect for my family of 5. If you're considering this car, I would highly recommend opting for the optional 3.8L engine for even more power. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts!

It seems like the expresso mini van has some issues with its suspension and ignition starter, but it still serves its purpose in our household. While riding on a long car trip, the arm rest may cause some vibration in your arms. Overall, it's not the most reliable vehicle, but it gets the job done.
