What make is a Plymouth Breeze?
Breeze is a member of the compact Chrysler Cirrus/Dodge Stratus family at Chrysler. Cirrus is the luxury car, Stratus the performance car and Breeze (what a wonderful name) the economy car.
Why was Plymouth discontinued?
Plymouth (1928-2001): Once a well-known brand under the Chrysler umbrella, Plymouth was discontinued due to overlapping models and declining sales. Oldsmobile (1897-2004): Established in 1897, Oldsmobile faced declining sales and was eventually phased out by General Motors to streamline its brand portfolio.
When did they stop making Plymouth Breeze?
2000
2000: The mid-sized Breeze ended production. This was also the last year for the Voyager minivan as a Plymouth.
Why did Plymouth cars fail?
The demise of Plymouth was due to lackluster cars that were similar to other models offered by other brands in the group, although Chrysler Group had a few tricks up their sleeves with the new PT Cruiser being planned to revive the Plymouth brand.
Why did Plymouth stop?
It's all about the money. As staid as it may sound, the answer has nothing to do with corporate intrigue, malfeasance from competitors, or even cars so bad it killed the brand, even if the Plymouth Prowler didn't help much. Plymouth went the way of the dodo for one simple reason: Money.
Was Plymouth a success or a failure?
Though Plymouth would never develop as robust an economy as later settlements—such as Massachusetts Bay Colony—agriculture, fishing and trading made the colony self-sufficient within five years after it was founded. Many other European settlers followed in the Pilgrims' footsteps to New England.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2006-09-17
- VIN: 1P4GP44RXVB
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: ON JULY 17, 2006 MY BELT TENSIONER BROKE ON MY 97 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER SE. I HAD IT TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP THE NEXT DAY WHERE THEY REPLACED THE TENSIONER AND PUT ON A NEW BELT. ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2006, (THE FIRST DAY DRIVING CAR IN THE RAIN SINCE REPLACING BELT & TENSIONER), WHILE DRIVING CAR IN THE RAIN 5 MINUTES, THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST AND THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON - THE BELT HAD COME OFF. RETURNED CAR TO REPAIR CENTER. THEY PUT BELT BACK ON AND COULD NOT FIND ANY REASON WHY THIS HAPPENED, OTHER THAN TO SAY THAT BELTS CAN FALL OFF MORE EASILY IN WET WEATHER. ON SEPT. 17, IT WAS NOT RAINING WHEN I WAS DRIVING CAR AT THE TIME, HOWEVER, THERE WAS AN AVERAGE SIZE PUDDLE THAT I DID DRIVE INTO AND AS SOON AS I DID I LOST MY POWER STEERING AND THE BATTER LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED OVER AND HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED. THIS TIME I TOOK IT TO A DEALER. THEY PUT THE BELT BACK ON AND COULD NOT FIND ANY REASON WHY IT WOULD HAVE COME OFF, OTHER THAN IT GETTING WET. I TOLD THEM THAT I HAD HEARD THROUGH A FRIEND THAT CHRYSLER VANS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM OF THE BELT COMING OFF IN WET WEATHER BUT THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF IT. THE ONLY 2 TIMES I HAVE DRIVEN MY CAR IN WET WEATHER AFTER REPLACING THE BELT TENSIONER, THE BELT HAS COME OFF. AFTER LOOKING UP SOME INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET (WWW.CARSURVEY.ORG), I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH PLYMOUTH AND DODGE CARAVANS. ALL IT TAKES IS GETTING IT WET AND THE BELT COMES OFF VERY EASILY. THERE ARE OVER 100 EMAILS ON THE WEBSITE WITH COMMENTS AND COMPLAINTS ON THIS VERY ISSUE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS FLAW IN THE CAR DESIGN. I WOULD APPRECIATE SOMEONE LOOKING INTO THIS AND CONSIDERING A RECALL. OUR FAMILY HAS 2 PLYMOUTH VOYAGERS AND HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH THEM UNTIL NOW. WE WERE CONSIDERING REPLACING THEM IN THE NEAR FUTURE BUT WILL DEFINITELY NOT BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER AFTER FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND REALIZING CHRYSLER HAS NOT TAKEN ANY STEPS TO SOLVE THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *NM
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2006-05-18
- VIN: 1P3EJ46C2VN
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: UPON ARRIVING HOME FROM WORK I BACKED THE VEHICLE INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND FOUND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE UNDERCARRIAGE. INVESTIGATION AFTER REMOVING THE TIRE FOUND THE OUTER TIE ROD BALL JOINT HAD SEPARATED AND COLLAPSED. INSPECTION OF THE PART FOUND NO APPARENT LUBRICATION AND RUST APPEARED ON THE BALL SECTION. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY MECHANICS SHOP AND THE PART REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH A NEW UNIT. I ASKED IF THE DRIVERS SIDE TIE ROD WAS ALSO IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT BUT INSPECTION BY MY MECHANIC APPARENTLY FOUND THE UNIT TO BE INTACT. THE REMOVED PART WAS DISCARDED UNFORTUNATELY BUT THE MECHANIC INDICATED HE'S SEEN THE SAME FAILURE ON OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME MANUFACTURER [CHRYSLER CORP] *JB

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-08-19
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: RACK AND PINION STEERING GEAR CRUNCHING NOISE. 45.000 MILES DUE TO LENGTHY RESEARCH IT APPEARS THAT THERE ARE SERIOUS DEFECTS IN THE STEERING SYSTEM OF MANY DAIMLER CHRYSLER VEHICLES. AFTER 27 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WITH 14 VEHICLES (MOSTLY GM AND FORD) I HAVE NEVER HAD AS MANY DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION/STEERING FAILURES AS WITH THIS PLYMOUTH BREEZE. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT CHRYSLER DOES NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY (FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY) FOR POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECTS. THEY SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND PAY FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR AND THEN FIND SUPPLIERS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. I CONSIDER THE BREEZE UNUSABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, SUCH AS ANYTHING OVER 30 MPH. FOR HAVING SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DESIGN THIS SITUATION IS JUST SAD. PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO CHRYSLER AS I AM IN THE PROCESS OF STARTING A SMALL CLAIMS COURT CASE. IF YOU CAN FORWARD THIS TO CHRYSLER PLEASE TELL THEM THAT WE JUST WANT RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION, NOT HAVING OUR LIVES AT STAKE. YOU SEE - IF YOU HIT A TREE OR SOMETHING SOLID - ALL OF THE EVIDENCE AGAINST THEM IS GONE. WAKE UP CONSUMERS - READ THE VEHICLE REPORTS BEFORE YOU BUY. BEAUTY MUST BE MORE THAN SKIN DEEP.*JB

- Summary: SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 2 WATER PUMPS IN 3 YEARS. I OWN A PLYMOUTH BREEZE(1997) AND I JUST HAD TO REPLACE ANOTHER WATER PUMP PLUS IT DID DAMAGE TO VALVES AND HEAD. IT COST ME $1600.00. THE MECHANIC SAID IT IS THE WAY THAT CHRYSLER MADE THIS CAR. HE SAID THE INTREPPIT AND THE BREEZE ARE DEFECTIVE BECAUSE OF HOW THE MANUFACTURER MADE THEM.I WAS NEVER WARNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM NOR HAVE I HEARD FROM CHRYSLER THAT THERE MAY BE A DEFECT. I HAVE THE DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP SAVED FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO EXAMINE IT!I THINK CHRYSLER SHOULD BE FORCED TO PAY FOR THESE REPAIRS BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT IN THERE MANUFACTURE OF THIS VEHICLE.I HAVE OWNED AT LEAST 10 CAR AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE 2 WATER PUMPS IN A 3 YEAR PERIOD.I HAVE ONLY HAD TO REPLACE 1 OTHER WATER PUMP BUT IT NEVER DID DAMAGE TO THE HEAD AND VALVES.THIS IS A DEFECT OF THE CHRYSLER COORPORATION. *AK

Lots of pleasure! I have no complaints. I took a 5000 mile trip in the summer of 2003 and had no backaches at the end of the day. There was plenty of room for luggage and I got 45 miles per gallon at interstate highway speeds out west.
-
I got this car new and it's great on gas mileage. It's not a bad car overall. The only issue I've had is with the head gasket, which has gone three times. Fortunately, it was under warranty two out of three times and seems to be doing well now.
-
I purchased the car used for approximately 25,000. The company covered the head gasket issue that was previously mentioned, which was great. The only trouble I had was with the two front tie rods, which were very bad at 86,948 miles and had to be replaced. On the bright side, I really like the spacious interior, the great radio, and the convenient cup holders!
-
Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I read your message and I think it's great that you're so focused on fuel economy. It's definitely an important factor to consider, especially with the rising fuel costs. I'm glad to hear that you found a car that meets your needs in terms of both comfort and affordability. Have a great day!
-
I purchased this car as a Christmas gift for my daughter back in 2015 when it had 147,000 miles on it. It's a lovely purple color, with no rust and the interior looks brand new. The previous owner took great care of it and after getting routine maintenance done, it has been a reliable little car. It gets great gas mileage and my daughter drove it for a year without any major issues, aside from a minor fender bender which she repaired herself. The car has required some maintenance, such as oil changes, lower ball joints, control arms, and brakes, but nothing too major. Although it sometimes stops at idle, it always starts right back up. I've taken it to my mechanic and Dodge Service, but no one can figure out why it does that. Despite this, the car has never left us stranded. My daughter has since purchased a newer car, but I still use this car as my daily driver. It's not as powerful as my Chevy SS, but it's perfect for in-town trips. The heat and air conditioning work great, and even the cassette player still functions. I tried selling it, but most people offered me lowball prices, so I decided to keep it and drive it. It will come in handy during the winter months when my Chevy SS is not ideal for driving. The car's successor was the Chrysler Cirrus and precursor to the Chrysler 200. Since my first review, I have replaced the struts, control arm, end links sway, and put on new tires. I also found out why it sometimes stops or cuts off in low idle - it needed a new computer, which cost $200.00. It's been running pretty well since then. Overall, I have put about $3000 into this car, but it's still better than having a car payment. Taxes on it are only $29.00 a year and insurance is $50.00 a month, so it's just the usual stuff that goes along with owning a 20-year-old car.

It's interesting to hear about the history of this car. It seems like it has been through a lot with your mother-in-law and your fiance's use. However, it's unfortunate to hear that the car has not held up well over time. It sounds like it may require a lot of maintenance and repairs.

Although my experience with this car has been challenging, I can confidently say that I have gained a wealth of knowledge about car maintenance and repair. In the first year alone, I had to address several issues such as a head gasket problem, intake replacement, steering wheel repair, and A/C valve replacement. Despite these setbacks, I am confident that with proper care and maintenance, this vehicle can provide reliable transportation. It is important to note that every car has its own unique set of challenges, and I encourage potential buyers to do their research and make an informed decision based on their individual needs and preferences.

I bought this car used and it has been great! Although, there was one time when the battery died and I couldn't find it. Just in case you are wondering, to get to the battery you must remove the front left tire. My husband drove this car from Ohio to California with all the belongings we could stuff in it, and it did just fine.

It's not the best car out there, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you're in a bind. The horsepower is lacking and the acceleration is slow, which can make for an uncomfortable ride. The seat isn't very comfortable and the suspension is too soft. Additionally, the cup holder is quite small and can only fit a soda bottle while the car is in gear.

I bought this car used back in 1999 for about $9k. She had 9,000 miles on her and has been incredibly reliable! I've driven it back and forth to the West Coast 6 times in the past 6 years without any issues. With routine maintenance, it has been a gem and one of the best purchases for the money I've ever made.
