1994 Cadillac Seville problems
The Cadillac Seville is a mid-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac from the 1976 to 2004 model years as a smaller-sized, premium model. It was replaced by the STS in 2004 for the 2005 model year.
Origin of the name
The name of "Cadillac's first small car" was selected over a revival of LaSalle or the GM design staff's preference, LaScala, primarily because, as noted by GM Marketing Director Gordon Horsburgh, "It had no negatives." The initial suggestion was "Leland" in honor of one of the make's founders but it was rejected because most buyers wouldn't understand the reference and Henry Leland had also founded rival Lincoln.
Hundreds of suggestions were considered: after extensive research, LaSalle was the top pick with St. Moritz a distant second, trailed further by Seville. A troubled past (LaSalle) and difficult pronunciation (St. Moritz) led to the eventual selection of the Seville nameplate.
Seville is the name of a Spanish province and its capital, renowned for its history and treasures of art and architecture. Cadillac had first used the nameplate for a two-door hardtop version of the 1956 Eldorado. 1960 was the last model year for the Eldorado Seville, returning in 1967 under a different name.

Common 1994 Cadillac Seville problems
The 1994 Cadillac Seville, particularly the STS model, is known for certain common problems that owners have reported. These issues include serpentine belt wear, road sensing shocks, transmission problems, strut replacement, and fuel pump replacement.
- Road Sensing Shocks: The road sensing shocks in the 1994 Cadillac Seville can wear out prematurely, especially if the car has not been well-maintained by the previous owner. These shocks are responsible for providing a smooth ride and ensuring proper road handling. If they are worn out, they will need to be replaced to restore the car's ride quality and handling.
- Transmission Problems: Some owners of the 1994 Cadillac Seville have reported transmission issues, such as the transmission not shifting over 2 gears or not shifting properly into 3 or overdrive. Replacing the solenoids or the entire transmission may be necessary to resolve these issues.
- Strut Replacement: The 1994 Cadillac Seville's struts may need to be replaced after a certain mileage, as was the case with one owner who reported replacing the struts after the car reached 300,000 km. Struts are crucial for maintaining the car's ride height, handling, and suspension performance. Replacing them when necessary will ensure that the car continues to perform at its best.
- Fuel Pump Replacement: The 1994 Cadillac Seville's in-tank fuel pump may also need to be replaced, as one owner reported doing after the car reached 300,000 km. The fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel to the engine, and if it fails, the car will not be able to start or run properly. Replacing the fuel pump when necessary will ensure that the car continues to run smoothly and reliably.
In summary, the 1994 Cadillac Seville has several common problems that owners have reported, including serpentine belt wear, road sensing shocks, transmission problems, strut replacement, and fuel pump replacement. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help prevent these issues from becoming more serious and costly.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-08-18
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 1G6KY5293RU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: THIS VEHICLE IS FACTORY EQUIPPED WITH A DELCO/BOSE SOUND SYSTEM. I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY AT 5 MPH. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3 MINUTES AND 1/4 MILE, THE RADIO SOUND BECAME DISTORTED AND INTERRUPTED. THE VEHICLE'S VOLTAGE DISPLAY INDICATED 13.3 VOLTS, RATHER THAN THE NORMAL 14.2 OR ABOVE. I TURNED OFF THE RADIO. I NOTICED AN ODOR I IDENTIFIED AS "HOT ELECTRICAL." I IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO A NEIGHBOR'S DRIVEWAY AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE'S IGNITION KEY. VISIBLE SMOKE WAS FLOWING INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT THROUGH THE AREA OF THE LEFT REAR RADIO SPEAKER UNDER THE REAR WINDOW. I OPENED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HOOD TO ACCESS THE BATTERY AND OPENED THE TRUNK. THE TRUNK LINER MATERIAL ON THE ROOF OF THE TRUNK BETWEEN THE SEAT BACK AND TRUNK OPENING WAS BURNING. THE FLAMES WERE SPREADING IN A CIRCULAR PATTERN CENTERED ON THE LEFT REAR SPEAKER. I PULLED THE BURNING MATERIAL FROM THE VEHICLE AS MY FRIEND BROUGHT ME A DRY CHEMICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHER. I PUT OUT THE FIRE AS ANOTHER FRIEND DISCONNECTED THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. THESE SPEAKERS HAVE AN ELECTRONIC MODULE MOUNTED TO THEM. THE MODULE WAS BURNED AND THE WIRES LEADING TO IT WERE BURNED AS FAR BACK AS THE TRUNK LINING MATERIAL HAD BURNED. I ISOLATED THE BURNED MODULE AND DAMAGED PORTION OF THE WIRES LEADING TO IT BY CUTTING THE WIRE HARNESS. I INSULATED THE WIRES AND CONNECTED THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE STARTED NORMALLY. THE RADIO PLAYED NORMALLY THROUGH THE REMAINING SPEAKERS. THE VOLTAGE INDICATOR SHOWED NORMAL VOLTAGE, 14.2 - 14.3 VOLTS. I OBSERVED NO ANOMALIES OR WARNINGS. NO FUSES NOR CIRCUIT BREAKERS TRIPPED TO INTERRUPT THE POWER TO THE MODULE AND PREVENT THE FIRE. THE DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE SPEAKER AND SURROUNDING TRUNK LINING MATERIAL. I AM SURE IF THIS ISSUE BEGAN AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO A FIRE EXTINGUISHER, THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN A TOTAL LOSS OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

- VIN: 1G6KS52Y0RU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I OWN A 1994 CADILLAC 4 DOOR SEVILLE. I AM THE SECOND OWNER. RECENTLY WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TUNE UP THE VEHICLE, I DISCOVERED THAT THE PLASTIC COVER COVERING THE HEATER BLOWER MOTOR MOUNTED ON THE FIREWALL HAD LITERALLY BEGAN TO DISINTEGRATE. THIS EXPOSED THE INSIDE INSULATION WHICH IS WITHIN INCHES OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE IF NOT PROTECTED. I HAVE TAKEN DIGITAL PHOTOS OF THE AREA AND CAN PRESENT THEM TO THE NHTSA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE BLOWER MOTOR PLASTIC COVER JUST LITERALLY FALLS OFF THE FIREWALL..ITS CRACKS LIKE THE CHOCOLATE COVERING A CAKE SO TO SPEAK..TOUCH IT AND IT JUST FLAKES OFF IN CHUNKS LIKE YOU WERE BREAKING A CANDY BAR IN HALF. I HAVE ALSO SAVED SOME OF THOSE PIECES FOR YOUR PERUSAL. NOW THE PROBLEM IS THE MORE I DRIVE, THE MORE PLASTIC FALLS OFF THE PLASTIC HOUSING. I AM AFRAID THAT AFTER A WHILE I WON'T BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH OUT THE CHANCE OF A FIRE IN THAT AREA. *JB

The Seville has been pretty good to me over the last eleven years. Although I have had to replace a couple of things on it in the last year that have gotten a little out of wack, this is to be expected with any car over ten years old. Overall, the car is great and I see it still being around for a long time. It still has a great ride and works really well as long as its maintenance is up to date. I would never trade this car, not even for a new CTS. I highly recommend a Cadillac to anyone, and I know they just make them even better with time.

Your 1994 Cadillac Seville STS has a fantastic Northstar motor! It's both smooth and powerful. With 145,000 miles, it only needs a little oil added between changes, but why bother when it's time to change it anyway? I love the neat feature that shows the remaining oil life percentage. If you do a lot of highway driving, you can go up to 7,000 miles between changes. The gas mileage is great too, getting between 18 and 22 m.p.g. whether you're driving in the city or on the highway. I find the cruise control feature to be really slick and use it extensively. I set it for 8 m.p.h over the speed limit and never worry about getting a ticket. The leather is really nice, the trunk space is abundant, and the dashboard display is good.
-
Great service vehicle! It's been very reliable, with repairs limited to just tires and a computer replacement that was covered under warranty in the first 5 years.
-
Hi there! I'm a proud owner of a 1994 Seville STS. This car drives and rides like a dream! I got it for a great price, but I have to admit that I've spent quite a bit on repairs. The Northstar engine is very sensitive and requires regular maintenance, but it's totally worth it to keep this beauty running smoothly. If you take good care of it, you'll avoid expensive repairs down the road.

I really enjoy my Cadillac, and I'm currently looking for a new car for my wife. However, I've noticed that the new car salespeople tend to become quiet when I mention that I drive a STS. Interestingly, they have a lot to say about my wife's car, which is a Mercury Sable (which has been a wonderful car).

I have owned 2 Cadillacs so far, and they were wonderful automobiles. However, both vehicles experienced significant issues after reaching 70,000 miles. I have had to pay for several repairs, including the transmission, water pump, shocks and struts, power window motor, front brake calipers and rotors. Despite these challenges, I remain confident in the quality of Cadillacs and their ability to provide a luxurious driving experience.
Matt Wyman 2024-04-25
After owning the car for a year, I unfortunately experienced some issues with the transmission and air compressor. Additionally, the paint on the roof, hood, and trunk lid has faded, and there have been some oil leaks from the engine that have affected my driveway. The interior has also experienced some wear and tear, with the seat splitting and the door panels coming apart. Despite these challenges, I remain hopeful that these issues can be repaired. When I reached out to the Cadillac factory representative, I was disappointed to hear that they were unable to assist me with a used car. However, I appreciate their time and hope to find a solution to these problems soon. While this experience has been frustrating, I will continue to explore other options for my future car purchases.
