Common Plymouth Breeze problems

The Plymouth Breeze, produced from 1996 to 2000, was a midsize sedan that was part of the Chrysler LH platform, which also included the Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus. Despite being a relatively new car, the Breeze had several common problems that were often reported by its owners.

One of the most common problems with the Plymouth Breeze was the heater system. According to a Curbside Classic article, the heater in the Breeze would only work at full blast, leading to an endless cycle of heat on, heat off, and windows down during cold weather. This issue could be caused by a faulty heater core, a damaged blend door actuator, or a malfunctioning thermostat.

Another problem with the Breeze was the engine and transmission. The Breeze was available in four-cylinder form only, with a 2.0L engine shared with the Neons. However, the Dodge and Chrysler models got the bigger 2.4L four.

The interior of the Breeze was also prone to problems. The dashboard and door panels were known to crack and fade, especially in hot climates.

The Breeze was also known for having electrical issues. The fuses in the Breeze were prone to blowing, especially the fuse for the powertrain control module (PCM) and the alternator. This issue could be caused by a faulty PCM, a bad alternator, or a wiring problem.

Finally, the Breeze was known for having issues with the suspension and steering. The Breeze had a tendency to pull to one side while driving, which could be caused by a misaligned suspension or a malfunctioning steering system. This issue could also be caused by uneven tire wear or a damaged wheel bearing.

In conclusion, the Plymouth Breeze had several common problems that were often reported by its owners. These issues included a faulty heater system, underpowered engine and transmission, poor interior quality, electrical problems, and suspension and steering issues. Despite these problems, the Breeze was a popular car during its production run, and many of them can still be seen on the road today.

Plymouth Breeze

What year did they stop making Plymouth Breeze?

The Plymouth Breeze was an entry-level midsize sedan produced from 1996 to 2000.

What make is a Plymouth Breeze?

Breeze is a member of the compact Chrysler Cirrus/Dodge Stratus family at Chrysler. Cirrus is the luxury car, Stratus the performance car and Breeze (what a wonderful name) the economy car.

Why did Plymouth get discontinued?

By the 1990s, Plymouth had lost much of its identity, as its models continued to overlap in features and prices with its sister brands, Dodge and Eagle. Chrysler attempted to remedy this by repositioning Plymouth to its traditional target market as the automaker's entry-level brand.

Why did Plymouth go out of business?

The demise of Plymouth was due to lackluster cars that were similar to other models offered by other brands in the group, although Chrysler Group had a few tricks up their sleeves with the new PT Cruiser being planned to revive the Plymouth brand.

  • VIN: 1P3EJ46X7YN
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: ON 1/25/13 I HAD SOME MINOR REPAIR WORK DONE ON MY VEHICLE. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT I HAD A LEAK IN MY POWER STEERING HOSE. HE ALSO INFORMED ME OF A RECALL THAT HAD BEEN ISSUED IN 2006 #06V001000. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF THIS RECALL. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE 2004, AND AM IN POSSESSION OF THE TITLE THAT VERIFIES THAT. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER, SECURITY DODGE ON LONG ISLAND, NY TO DISCUSS THE MATTER. I WAS INFORMED BY THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT SHOW ANY OPEN RECALLS. THEY TOLD ME THIS RECALL WAS REMEDIED IN 2007 IN COTTONWOOD, AZ. THEY ALSO GAVE ME THE NAME OF THE OWNER, WHICH IS NOT ME. MY CAR WAS NEVER SERVICED IN COTTONWOOD, AZ. AT THE TIME THAT WAS 2 HOURS FROM WHERE I LIVED. I OPENED A CASE WITH DAIMLER CHRYSLER WHO INSTRUCTED ME TO CONTACT THE SERVICE MANAGER AT SECURITY DODGE. THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS FAR FROM HELPFUL OR INTERESTED IN THE CONFUSION WITH THIS SITUATION. I HAVE JUST READ ALL OF THE INCIDENTS OF FIRE RESULTING FROM THIS HOSE AND I NEED HELP IN GETTING THIS RECTIFIED. IT APPEARS THERE MUST BE A CLERICAL ERROR WITH MY VIN NUMBER IN THEIR SYSTEM. I FEEL THIS IS BACKED UP BY THE FACT THEY GAVE ME THE INCORRECT NAME OF THE OWNER AS WELL. I AM NOW VERY FEARFUL TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. I NEVER HAD THIS RECALL REPAIR MADE IN COTTONWOOD, AZ IN 2007 OR AT ANY OTHER TIME. CAN YOU ASSIST ME IN GETTING THIS RECTIFIED? *TR

Latest negative Plymouth Breeze car reviews

  1. Garrison Labadie 2024-11-21

    Vehicle year: 1999

I hope I have enough space. Within the last 4 months, I have had to repair the rear brake hoses which involved replacing the rear brakes, the r/r speed sensor, the blown head gaskets, the blower resistor, the cracked exhaust manifold, the RPM sensor, and the serpentine belt (which has been replaced twice). Unfortunately, the majority of these repairs have been very expensive. As a result, I am quite disappointed in this car and in Plymouth (who I once cherished).

  2. Orlo Pacocha 2024-11-17

    Vehicle year: 1998

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it used with 20,000 miles and have put 165,000 miles on it over the past five years. While I've had to replace the head gasket twice (which seems to be a chronic problem with this car), as well as the brakes, cylinder, and some steering components, the rest of the body is in good shape, with only some rust on the front of the hood. Overall, I've been quite satisfied with my purchase. While it may not be the best car out there, it was definitely worth the price!

  3. Bradly Pouros 2024-10-28

    Vehicle year: 1997

It's interesting to hear about the history of this car. It seems like it has been through a lot with your mother-in-law and your fiance's use. However, it's unfortunate to hear that the car has not held up well over time. It sounds like it may require a lot of maintenance and repairs.

  4. Gunnar Price 2024-10-20

    Vehicle year: 1999

Although my car had less than 40,000 miles on it, the transmission failed. Despite the dealership taking over two months to solve the problems that arose after the replacement, the car still does not run as smoothly as our Ford 6 cyl. Additionally, it only gets good, but not great gas mileage, and has a rough idle. In my experience, I would not choose to purchase another 4 cyl. vehicle.

  5. Amani Funk 2024-10-07

    Vehicle year: 1997

Although my experience with this car has been challenging, I can confidently say that I have gained a wealth of knowledge about car maintenance and repair. In the first year alone, I had to address several issues such as a head gasket problem, intake replacement, steering wheel repair, and A/C valve replacement. Despite these setbacks, I am confident that with proper care and maintenance, this vehicle can provide reliable transportation. It is important to note that every car has its own unique set of challenges, and I encourage potential buyers to do their research and make an informed decision based on their individual needs and preferences.

Lots of pleasure! I have no complaints. I took a 5000 mile trip in the summer of 2003 and had no backaches at the end of the day. There was plenty of room for luggage and I got 45 miles per gallon at interstate highway speeds out west.

  2. Eliezer Rau 2024-11-15

Hi there! Thank you for considering my car. It has been well-maintained and has a lot of life left in it. With only one previous owner, it has been driven 122,000 miles and has had no major mechanical problems. The 2.4 L engine runs great, although it can be a little sluggish with the AC on. It gets 20 city/26 hwy, which is pretty good for a car of its age. I have serviced the cooling system, transmission, belts & hoses, and given it a tune-up as recommended. The only major item that needed to be repaired/replaced was the fuel pump. The body is still solid and there is almost no rust, which is impressive for a Minnesota car. Let me know if you have any questions!

Great to hear that your Plymouth is still running smoothly after 90,000 kms! It's always exciting to consider purchasing another one in the near future.

  5. Robbie Breitenberg 2024-11-04

I love the 5 speed manual with the 4 valves per cylinder engine. I average about 35 mpg overall. The only problem I had was the head gasket. This car saved me a lot of money and is fun to drive. It's a shame they don't make Plymouths anymore.
