The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.

First generation (A60; 2003)

Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.

Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

Common 2018 Nissan Titan problems

The 2018 Nissan Titan, while generally considered dependable, has its share of common problems. Among the most frequently reported issues are fuel system problems, which can manifest as whistling sounds from the filler neck during refueling and fuel pump failure due to clogged fuel filters. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received multiple complaints regarding fuel/propulsion system problems in the 2018 Titan.

In addition to fuel system issues, the 2018 Nissan Titan has experienced transmission problems. Many owners have reported issues such as lurching, hard shifting, jerks, and abrupt stops while driving. Some drivers have also reported that their trucks tend to stop abruptly while driving, and there have been no recalls or known resolutions for these types of transmission issues.

Another common problem reported by 2018 Nissan Titan owners is engine knocks. These knocking sounds typically occur around 30,000 miles and can be caused by an exhaust leak or internal engine issues. In some cases, the engine may need to be rebuilt, which can cost over $3,000. Transmission hesitation while changing gears has also been reported, often due to transmission control module software issues. Installing a software update can usually resolve this problem.

Stereo system issues have also been reported by some 2018 Titan owners. The stereo system can freeze up and require a restart to function properly. Software updates are available to address this issue, and most dealers will install them for free, while some may charge around $50.

In terms of longevity, a used 2018 Nissan Titan may last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than other full-size trucks like the Toyota Tundra. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than many competitors, but as the Titan ages and reaches 100,000 miles, owners should be prepared to replace the window regulator, knock sensor, and A/C refrigerant line.

Regarding technology, the 2018 Nissan Titan features a 5.6-liter V8 engine across all its models, producing 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a seven-speed automatic, and the towing capacity is up to 9,740 pounds when properly equipped. The truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in around 6.7 seconds, providing decent acceleration for a full-size pickup truck.

In summary, the 2018 Nissan Titan has several common problems, including fuel system issues, transmission problems, engine knocks, stereo system issues, and premature shock failure. However, the truck is known for its dependability and strong engine performance. Regular maintenance and addressing issues as they arise can help ensure a longer lifespan for the 2018 Nissan Titan.

Determined the engine came apart internally and had large rod and main bearing material in oil pan loose metal ran through engine and engine will need to be replaced. We had all necessary warranty work done at the certified dealership and all oil changes were done as recommended, all documentation sent to dealership. Nissan would not cover the damage, we were 12,370 miles over warranty and still owed $24,000 on the vehicle. On April 4/17/2023 we paid $17,977 for a new engine on the truck. Upon our research this is a "known" issue with this engine and the crank shaft failing.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-12
  • VIN: 1N6AA1E51JN
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Earlier this year my 2018 Nissan Titan experienced catastrophic engine failure at only 56,376 miles. I then learned it was due to a manufacturing defect that is very common on 2017-2019 Nissan Titans and other Nissan models with the same engine. This issue is well known to Nissan as evidenced by Nissan Service Bulletin NTB19-057 which was first issued in July 2019. Most failures have occurred when the vehicles are so new that the manufacturer’s warranty provides engine replacement. Mine, unfortunately, occurred three months after the powertrain warranty expired. I filed a complaint with Nissan Consumer Affairs and Nissan took no responsibility and provided no financial assistance. I was forced to pay for engine replacement at a cost of $8,755.03. The website [XXX] has numerous forums relating to this issue with the main thread having 3000+ posts from owners who have experienced catastrophic engine failure. As these vehicles all have expiring powertrain warranties, Nissan is leaving owners like me to pay extremely high repair bills due to this known factory defect. As premature catastrophic engine failure is an obvious safety issue, Nissan should have the responsibility to issue a recall and repair these vehicles. ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-25
  • VIN: 1N6BA1F4XJN

  • Summary: I was driving the truck down the interstate with the cruise set at 70-75 mph and without warning, the truck starts shaking violently and making very loud noises from the wngine and then the engine shuts off and power steering is lost while traveling at highway speeds in traffic. The failure was diagnosed as a crankshaft failure which snapped the crankshaft in the engine. The quote from Nissan to replace the engine out of warranty varies between 35k-42k which TOTALS this vehicle for an engine failure that they are at fault for. Nissan knowingly sold vehicles with faulty engines by putting the safety concerns and financial burden for the public to the wayside. This needs to be addressed soon before someone is seriously injured due to Nissan’s negligence and recklessness for customer safety.

Negative 2018 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Carmine Morissette 2024-11-29

You'll be happy to know that this vehicle has plenty of power and comes with a 5-year/100k miles warranty. While there have been some reported issues with reliability and reprogramming, our team is dedicated to finding solutions to these problems. It's worth noting that the resale value may not be as high as some other vehicles, but we believe that the overall quality and performance make up for it. Additionally, we are aware of some shaking and vibration at highway speeds, and we are actively working on a solution to address this issue. Thank you for considering this vehicle!

  2. Elmore Hessel 2024-05-19

I had a 07 Titan and it was great. However, after upgrading to the 18 Titan and driving 68,000 miles, I've had to replace the transmission and now the timing belt. It's been quite frustrating. I'm not sure if I would buy another Titan, but at least it should be easy now that they've been discontinued.

  3. Charley Jenkins 2024-05-16

I have taken my truck to the dealership numerous times in the past 6 months. Despite Nissan's knowledge of the shifting issues, they have yet to provide a solution. It is disappointing to have spent 50k on a truck that performs like one from 20 years ago.

  4. Quinten Kihn 2024-05-09

Hey there! Just a quick reminder to keep an eye out for exclamation marks!

  5. Judson Gibson 2024-04-21

It's great that the truck comes with a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. However, it may not be the best fit for someone who is big or tall as there is limited leg and head room, which can make long rides uncomfortable. Additionally, some may find the steering wheel to be too small.

Positive 2018 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Edgar Raynor 2025-02-23

Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity! Nissan is offering these trucks at an incredible value to compete with the big guys. As someone who buys trucks every 2 years and has tried them all, I can confidently say that this truck's warranty, appearance, price, and setup convinced me to give it a try. I am extremely pleased with my decision so far. The ride is the most comfortable I've experienced, and the state-of-the-art noise reduction makes it feel like a luxury car. While the infotainment system could use some improvement, the camera's clarity and 360-degree view more than make up for it. The sound system is the best of all the trucks, and the zero-gravity seats are a noticeable plus. Lastly, the 390 hp engine is a noticeable upgrade from my previous 2016 F150 with the remarkable V6 EcoBoost engine. This truck is a great buy, with a 5-year, 100k mile warranty to back it up. I am two months in and couldn't be happier with my decision to choose this beautiful truck over the

  2. Marcel Cole 2025-02-17

Update: I have currently driven around 75k miles on the truck and have not faced any issues throughout the entire time I have owned it. I purchased the 2018 Pro-4X with premium package brand new in December of 2018 and received an incredible deal. The truck boasts a lot of features, good power, and provides great value for what you get. I usually get around 15mpg (mixed city & highway driving), but have gotten as high as 18mpg during all highway driving and as low as 13mpg in stop and go traffic. I would definitely recommend it.

  3. Brice Miller 2025-02-10

Thanks for sharing your honest review of your 2018 Titan! It's great to hear that you love how well it handles, turns smoothly, and has nice off-road capability. The powerful 5.7 L V8 engine and 7-speed automatic transmission sound like they make for a fun ride, and it's impressive that you've gotten up to 26 mpg on the highway. The comfortable seats and ability to sleep in the cab for an overnight outdoor excursion are also great features. Plus, it's always nice to support American labor by driving a Titan made in Canton, Mississippi. As for the downsides, it's understandable that the towing capacity may not be enough for some, but it's important to remember that the Titan is a half-ton pickup and shouldn't be compared to 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickups. It's also a shame that you have to turn on the engine to roll down the windows and can't shut off the lights entirely, but safety is always a top priority. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on the Titan!I understand the struggle of finding the perfect vehicle, especially with kids. While a full size SUV would be nice, it's important to have a bed for your outdoor lifestyle. Some critics may bash the Titan's infotainment system for its small screen, but what they fail to mention is the impressive stereo system it comes with. It's definitely a feature that makes up for any shortcomings. I personally wouldn't pay over $50k for a brand new SL Titan (new models start just under $60k), but I would definitely consider a used low mileage Titan. It's a great investment and I have no regrets with my purchase. I'm confident that it will last me for many years to come. -Joe from Montana

  4. Patrick Feest 2025-01-15

In May 2019, I purchased a CPO 2017 Nissan KC SV 2wd to replace my 2003 Nissan Frontier XE 2.4L 5 speed KC. The main reason for the change was because my 2003 Frontier could not pull my 3600 lbs trailer, and after almost 17 years, it was time for a newer truck. Although this truck has some features that my old truck did not have, it has some issues that I have been experiencing. For instance, it is a gas hog and only gets about 11mpg mixed driving. Also, it has started making a sound that is like a jet engine taking off, which was not there until about 2 weeks ago. I took the truck into my Nissan dealer to get a recall addressed and to look at the sound. Although I was told that the sound is normal and as designed, I was not satisfied with the explanation. I took it to a friend of mine who has an independent shop, and he tested it and found that it is indeed the fan clutch. Since the truck is still under new car warranty, we opted not to have him change it. Another issue with this truck is that it whistles when you fill it with fuel. Although the mechanic at Nissan said that this has never happened before and we would have to get with an engineer at Nissan, I believe it is a problem with the EVAP module that is connected to the fuel filler. I am no expert or mechanic, but I believe that customers should not be blown off when they come in with an issue. Despite these issues, I am still a loyal Nissan customer and hope that these issues can be resolved. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I'm so glad you stumbled upon the great deal for the Titan SV! It's definitely a great choice compared to the Silverado and F150. Even with the 2 wheel drive, you're still getting a decent 18 mpg in your local commute and 22 on the highway at 65mph. It's good to know that the 4wd option may affect the mpg. Your family and you must be really enjoying the truck overall!

Sep 11, 2018 ... There's transmission issues that seem to affect 16's and 17's but some 18's too. Some of the trucks shake really bad at 62-70mph.
