The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.

First generation (A60; 2003)

Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.

Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

Common 2018 Nissan Titan problems

The 2018 Nissan Titan, while generally considered dependable, has its share of common problems. Among the most frequently reported issues are fuel system problems, which can manifest as whistling sounds from the filler neck during refueling and fuel pump failure due to clogged fuel filters. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received multiple complaints regarding fuel/propulsion system problems in the 2018 Titan.

In addition to fuel system issues, the 2018 Nissan Titan has experienced transmission problems. Many owners have reported issues such as lurching, hard shifting, jerks, and abrupt stops while driving. Some drivers have also reported that their trucks tend to stop abruptly while driving, and there have been no recalls or known resolutions for these types of transmission issues.

Another common problem reported by 2018 Nissan Titan owners is engine knocks. These knocking sounds typically occur around 30,000 miles and can be caused by an exhaust leak or internal engine issues. In some cases, the engine may need to be rebuilt, which can cost over $3,000. Transmission hesitation while changing gears has also been reported, often due to transmission control module software issues. Installing a software update can usually resolve this problem.

Stereo system issues have also been reported by some 2018 Titan owners. The stereo system can freeze up and require a restart to function properly. Software updates are available to address this issue, and most dealers will install them for free, while some may charge around $50.

In terms of longevity, a used 2018 Nissan Titan may last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than other full-size trucks like the Toyota Tundra. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than many competitors, but as the Titan ages and reaches 100,000 miles, owners should be prepared to replace the window regulator, knock sensor, and A/C refrigerant line.

Regarding technology, the 2018 Nissan Titan features a 5.6-liter V8 engine across all its models, producing 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a seven-speed automatic, and the towing capacity is up to 9,740 pounds when properly equipped. The truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in around 6.7 seconds, providing decent acceleration for a full-size pickup truck.

In summary, the 2018 Nissan Titan has several common problems, including fuel system issues, transmission problems, engine knocks, stereo system issues, and premature shock failure. However, the truck is known for its dependability and strong engine performance. Regular maintenance and addressing issues as they arise can help ensure a longer lifespan for the 2018 Nissan Titan.

Determined the engine came apart internally and had large rod and main bearing material in oil pan loose metal ran through engine and engine will need to be replaced. We had all necessary warranty work done at the certified dealership and all oil changes were done as recommended, all documentation sent to dealership. Nissan would not cover the damage, we were 12,370 miles over warranty and still owed $24,000 on the vehicle. On April 4/17/2023 we paid $17,977 for a new engine on the truck. Upon our research this is a "known" issue with this engine and the crank shaft failing.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-12
  • VIN: 1N6AA1E51JN
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Earlier this year my 2018 Nissan Titan experienced catastrophic engine failure at only 56,376 miles. I then learned it was due to a manufacturing defect that is very common on 2017-2019 Nissan Titans and other Nissan models with the same engine. This issue is well known to Nissan as evidenced by Nissan Service Bulletin NTB19-057 which was first issued in July 2019. Most failures have occurred when the vehicles are so new that the manufacturer’s warranty provides engine replacement. Mine, unfortunately, occurred three months after the powertrain warranty expired. I filed a complaint with Nissan Consumer Affairs and Nissan took no responsibility and provided no financial assistance. I was forced to pay for engine replacement at a cost of $8,755.03. The website [XXX] has numerous forums relating to this issue with the main thread having 3000+ posts from owners who have experienced catastrophic engine failure. As these vehicles all have expiring powertrain warranties, Nissan is leaving owners like me to pay extremely high repair bills due to this known factory defect. As premature catastrophic engine failure is an obvious safety issue, Nissan should have the responsibility to issue a recall and repair these vehicles. ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-25
  • VIN: 1N6BA1F4XJN
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: I was driving the truck down the interstate with the cruise set at 70-75 mph and without warning, the truck starts shaking violently and making very loud noises from the wngine and then the engine shuts off and power steering is lost while traveling at highway speeds in traffic. The failure was diagnosed as a crankshaft failure which snapped the crankshaft in the engine. The quote from Nissan to replace the engine out of warranty varies between 35k-42k which TOTALS this vehicle for an engine failure that they are at fault for. Nissan knowingly sold vehicles with faulty engines by putting the safety concerns and financial burden for the public to the wayside. This needs to be addressed soon before someone is seriously injured due to Nissan’s negligence and recklessness for customer safety.

Negative 2018 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Carmine Morissette 2024-11-29

You'll be happy to know that this vehicle has plenty of power and comes with a 5-year/100k miles warranty. While there have been some reported issues with reliability and reprogramming, our team is dedicated to finding solutions to these problems. It's worth noting that the resale value may not be as high as some other vehicles, but we believe that the overall quality and performance make up for it. Additionally, we are aware of some shaking and vibration at highway speeds, and we are actively working on a solution to address this issue. Thank you for considering this vehicle!

  2. Elmore Hessel 2024-05-19

I had a 07 Titan and it was great. However, after upgrading to the 18 Titan and driving 68,000 miles, I've had to replace the transmission and now the timing belt. It's been quite frustrating. I'm not sure if I would buy another Titan, but at least it should be easy now that they've been discontinued.

  3. Charley Jenkins 2024-05-16

I have taken my truck to the dealership numerous times in the past 6 months. Despite Nissan's knowledge of the shifting issues, they have yet to provide a solution. It is disappointing to have spent 50k on a truck that performs like one from 20 years ago.

  4. Quinten Kihn 2024-05-09

Hey there! Just a quick reminder to keep an eye out for exclamation marks!

  5. Judson Gibson 2024-04-21

It's great that the truck comes with a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. However, it may not be the best fit for someone who is big or tall as there is limited leg and head room, which can make long rides uncomfortable. Additionally, some may find the steering wheel to be too small.

Positive 2018 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Dean Metz 2024-11-21

I'm so glad you stumbled upon the great deal for the Titan SV! It's definitely a great choice compared to the Silverado and F150. Even with the 2 wheel drive, you're still getting a decent 18 mpg in your local commute and 22 on the highway at 65mph. It's good to know that the 4wd option may affect the mpg. Your family and you must be really enjoying the truck overall!

  2. Payton Dare 2024-11-15

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that the item was purchased brand new in 2018 and has been very well taken care of. It has never needed any repairs or maintenance, so you can be confident that it's in great condition. Let me know if you have any questions!

  3. Lucas Purdy 2024-10-22

Over the last 25 years, I have owned a variety of pickups, including Ford Ranger, F150, F250, F350 & Sport Trac; Chevy Avalanche & Silverado 1500, and Dodge Dakota & Rams 1500, 2500; GMC Sierra 3500, Honda Ridgeline, Toyota Tacoma and Tundra. Unfortunately, I have found annoyances with every truck from day one. For example, GM's cylinder deactivation is my number one annoyance, especially when it starts to go wrong. Dodge's cylinder deactivation was less noticeable but still not great. I wasn't interested in a new Ford with Start/Stop or worse, a 6 Banger with a Turbo. Turbos and I don't get along, and I've had issues with F350 PowerStroke in the past. The Toyota Tundra was okay, but the ride wasn't great, and the fuel economy was awful. The 'new' Tundras were exactly the same as my 2012, just more expensive. So, I decided to look at something different. I test drove four different variations of 3/4 ton GMs, but they didn't have cylinder deactivation, and I didn't need to bounce down the highway. The new Honda Ridgeline is cute, but my trailer is too heavy for it. So, I looked on the web at Nissan Titans and found that my local dealer (30 miles away) had a few remaining 18's in stock. Although I don't like my local Nissan Dealer, it was worth a shot to see what the Titan had to offer, especially since the next Nissan dealer is 90 miles away. I found my Pearl Blue Crew Cab 4x4 Titan sitting in a back lot with a dead battery and a couple of inches of dust on it. After we jumpstarted it, the salesman suggested we take it on an extended test drive to charge the battery. It was the best initial test drive in a truck that I ever had. It fit me like a glove, and we drove in town, on county roads, on the highway, and up to the local ski resort. I could not believe how well the truck drove compared to the 2015 Chevy that I drove to the dealership in. We got back to the dealership, and the next morning I picked up my clean new Pearl Blue Titan. In the last four trips of more than 300 miles, I have averaged not just by the truck's computer but my calculation as well 20.6 MPG.That's great to hear! It sounds like you're really enjoying your Titan. Everyone who rides in it is impressed by how quiet and smooth the ride is, although it's still not quite as luxurious as your Jaguar XJ. It's clear that you put a lot of miles on your trucks, and I'm sure the Titan will serve you well for many miles to come.

  4. Allan Hudson 2024-10-06

**First, I would like to share my experience with the gas mileage. I own a 2018 Pro-4x which is non EPA rated but should be getting 15C - 21H. However, I have been getting 10C with regular gas and 13.6 with Premium, which is nowhere near what is noted out there. I want to make it clear that I do not have a lead foot. Also, there is a hesitation/lag when there is extra power needed when passing on the highway. This has been noted on both engine side & transmission reactive response, confirmed with other owners when I come across another unit similar to mine. **Moving on to the navigation system, I have noticed that it is outdated and there is no support available. The maps do not show where I live (a 4-year-old community) or some roads where I work that have been there since the 80s. Considering the premium price, I expected better content and maintenance. **Regarding the 2019 unit, I would like to point out that it now has 2 USB ports, but you lose a cigarette lighter port. In my opinion, it would have been better to keep the 2 cigarette ports and just add another USB on the same insert. Cigarette lighter ports have longer life and added usability compared to the 2019 build option. **I have also noticed an issue with the gas tank design. The tank air outlet is behind the large circular steel pressed O, and the OEM tank has the capability of accepting more fuel than what is noted of 26 gallons. However, due to the air outlet & design of the tank, it has a hard time letting the air escape out of the gas tank/breathing, which makes a whistling noise when filling up at the gas station. **Lastly, I would like to share my experience with the dealership. Unfortunately, my experience has not been great, and I feel that Nissan Customer relations/Escalation service is a waste of time. I believe that Nissan should increase Quality Control at the factory. I have seen units coming right off the transport truck with tiny bubbles in the paint or sand, wheel weld fenders nicked or gouged & under paint/primer paint visible from the finish paint. This is unacceptable.

After driving small 4x4 trucks for a long time, I finally decided to upgrade to a 2018 Nissan Titan SV 4x4 in September 2018. I purchased the truck from Nissan Elizabeth City NC, where Hal, the sales manager, provided excellent service and helped me find the perfect vehicle. With 37,000 highway miles, the truck averages an impressive 18-21 miles per gallon when not towing. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend this awesome truck, especially given the great price and superb service I received!

Sep 11, 2018 ... There's transmission issues that seem to affect 16's and 17's but some 18's too. Some of the trucks shake really bad at 62-70mph.
