The Chrysler 300M is a full-size luxury car that was produced by Daimler/Chrysler from 1999 to 2004. It is a front-wheel drive, 255 hp (190 kW; 259 PS) V6 engined car using the Chrysler LH platform. Versus its platform mates, the 300M was roughly 10 inches (25 cm) shorter to make it more easily exportable to Europe. Priced above the Concorde and identically to the LHS, the 300M shared Chrysler's flagship position with the LHS until the LHS's discontinuation after 2001, upon which it became Chrysler's sole flagship model.

Design

Prior to Chrysler redesigning the LH-cars in 1998, the Eagle Vision filled the "import-fighter" segment. Its second-generation replacement was reportedly benchmarked against the BMW 5 Series, yet with Chrysler discontinuing the entire Eagle line after 1998, the automaker shifted this vehicle to the Chrysler lineup, bringing back the famed "300" model name. Although the cars were not rear-wheel-drive, special-production models, nor V8-powered with engines rated at 300 horsepower as did the historic models, the 300M used the next letter available in the 300 Letter Series, following the 1965 300L. The 300M also lacked the traditional "cross-hair" grille of previous 300 models, as by the mid-1980s it had been adopted by sister division Dodge for its entire model line.

Had the Eagle brand not been dropped, the 300M reportedly would have been sold as a redesigned Eagle Vision. Test cars, factory manuals, and design images were prepared for the second-generation Vision featuring a prominent Eagle badge on the grille. Sharing its powertrain and interior with the Chrysler LHS, the 300M was some ten inches shorter in overall length, allowing it to fit the European "5-metre" (16.4 ft) size class for exports to Europe. Despite this, wheelbase was shared with all other second generation LH cars, with reductions in length coming from shortened front and rear overhangs.

I CALLED A CHRYSLER PARTS DEPARTMENT AT A DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT CHRYSLER HAD CHANGED THE WAY THIS LINE WAS MADE BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE LHS AND 300M MODELS. THESE MODEL CARS ARE UNSAFE TO OPERATE BECAUSE OF A FAULTY MANUFACTURED GAS LINE THAT IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND COULD CAUSE FIRES AND POSSIBLE INJURIES OR WORSE. *TR

Negative 2000 Chrysler 300m car reviews

I really like the design of the car, but unfortunately, I have had some issues with the dealership and the car's reliability. Since purchasing the car, I have had to replace or repair several parts, including 2 sets of rotors (plus 1 resurfaced), 2 sets of brake pads, 2 alignments, 8 tires, the driver's side door latch (twice), and the steering rack. The car has only 28,000 miles on it. I have filed a complaint with Chrysler and am currently waiting for their response.

I purchased this car in April 2000. Unfortunately, the finish was not up to par and the dealer was unable to fix it. Despite this setback, I was able to buff it myself and make it look great. On the first day of driving, I noticed that the tail lights were not working, which was frustrating to discover at 1 AM. Additionally, there were a few other issues such as an auto lamp that acted up in bright sunlight and a crunching noise in the front end that the mechanics had trouble locating. To make matters worse, the car was delivered without an air filter, which was quite surprising. On top of all this, I have had trouble with the State of Florida mailing my re-registration papers to Chrysler Leasing for the past three years, resulting in an $85 fine while parked at Miami Airport. Despite these challenges, I still wonder why this car is rated so highly?

I'm so glad we had the extended warranty! Although we've had some issues with our car, the great options definitely make up for it. We've had to replace the power window motor, electronic transmission sensor, electric seat motor, and now the front brake rotors (which somehow managed to warp without damaging the pads?). We've also had some shaking problems with the tires after 20,000 miles. Overall, I don't think I'll be purchasing another Chrysler, but I still have faith in our American manufacturers.

I chose this car over the Lincoln LS because I liked the looks better and it had more power. However, I have experienced some quality issues. The chrome coating on the lettering is coming off, the finish is easily scratched, and there is noticeable wind and tire noise for a car in this price range. Additionally, there are some issues with the window, steering wheel, and weatherproofing strip. Despite these problems, I still prefer this car over the 300C. Thank you for considering my experience.

Although I have experienced several issues with this car, I am confident in my assessment of its overall quality. The rack and pinion required replacement ($800) due to a dangerous amount of slack, the front passenger door lock actuator failed ($150), the driver's side speaker stopped working ($150), and the fuel gauge is currently malfunctioning. Despite these challenges, I recently had a full tuneup ($200) at the 66,000 warranty service at the (Irving, TX) Chrysler dealership where the car was purchased. While the rough idle the car has developed remains an issue, I am confident that I can find a solution. While I may have made a mistake in purchasing this car, I remain confident in my ability to navigate these challenges and make the best of the situation.

Positive 2000 Chrysler 300m car reviews

This is a fantastic car for the price! It comes with all the options you could want, and with Auto-Stick, it's a blast to drive. It handles exceptionally well for a larger car, and the suspension is tight with the sport package option. It also has great pickup and passing power. I've personally driven it from NY to FL, and it's comfortable even on long trips.

  2. Tracey Herman 2024-11-03

I drive 38 miles to work each day. Some of it is back road and some freeway. The 300M is always a pleasure to drive. It's powerful with great handling, yet the interior is refined and extremely comfortable. Even after almost two years of ownership, I still love driving this car.

  3. Adolphus Moen 2024-11-01

I chose this car over a Lincoln LS because I really liked the styling. It's the same size as my Park Ave, but has a more lively appearance. I find the new shifter capability to be really enjoyable, especially on the windy, hilly roads we have here in NC. The only downside is that there is quite a bit of wind and road noise at high speeds on the highway. Additionally, the only flat tire I've had in several years happened on a Sunday and it was a bit challenging to find someone who had a 17

  4. Makenna Kuhlman 2024-10-10

This red Chrysler is definitely one of the best they have made! The service for check-ups was exceptional, making the driving experience even more enjoyable. It came with features that were optional in other cars, making it stand out. The mileage is comparable, if not better, and the design is simply stunning. The heated seats and back lumbar adjustment are a pleasure, especially during the winter. The sound quality, with both the discs and cassettes, is simply beautiful. Even the leather still looks new! I only wish that the newest model was just as cool as this one.

  5. Brice Dare 2024-10-10

This car has been amazing! I've driven over 30,000 miles and it hasn't given me a single problem. I'm so impressed with how great it is!
