The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.

First generation (A60; 2003)

Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.

Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

Common 2020 Nissan Titan problems

The 2020 Nissan Titan has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners, although it's important to note that these issues may not affect all vehicles and that not all vehicles will experience these problems.

One of the most prominent issues with the 2020 Nissan Titan is the leaking rear axle seal, which can cause significant damage to the axle bearings and/or rear differential assembly due to excess fluid leak. This issue is not unique to the 2020 model and has been reported in earlier models as well.

Transmission issues have also been reported in the 2020 Titan, with some owners observing hard shifting and jerking while shifting. Some reports have claimed that their trucks would stop abruptly while driving, which can be a significant safety concern.

Fuel pump failure is another issue that has been reported in the 2020 Titan, with some owners noticing whistling/humming sounds while fueling up their trucks. Some people have also reported fuel pump failure that damaged their catalytic converter.

The 2020 Titan has also been reported to have a faulty navigation system, although this may not be a significant issue for some owners due to the widespread use of smartphones.

Interior accessory issues have been reported in the 2020 Titan, including dimming dash lights during daylight, which can cause visibility issues for the driver. Additionally, issues with the truck's start button have been noted, and complaints have been made about both driver and passenger seat shaking or detaching from the frame.

Premature shock failure and uneven tire wear have been reported in the 2020 Titan, particularly in vehicles with under 100,000 miles. Replacement of faulty shocks is generally the resolution for this issue, and uneven tire wear can sometimes be caused by misaligned racks or faulty camber bolts.

Engine troubles have been a significant concern for the 2020 Nissan Titan, with some owners reporting a loud noise from the engine upon starting the vehicle, accompanied by vibrations and smoke emanating from the engine compartment due to an exploded plenum. Others have encountered issues with the oil indicator, where the oil turns into a peanut butter-colored sludge without triggering the warning light, indicating severe oil contamination.

Consumer Reports expects the 2024 Titan to have about average reliability when compared to other new cars, based on the Nissan brand scores. However, it's important to note that reliability can vary significantly between different model years and even between different vehicles within the same model year.

In summary, while the 2020 Nissan Titan has been reported to have several common problems, it's important to note that not all vehicles will experience these issues, and that reliability can vary significantly between different model years and even between different vehicles within the same model year.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-07-22
  • VIN: 1N6AA1FB0LN
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: The problem I am writing about concerns this vehicle and recall #PC773 EGI HARNESS. Reference must also be made to Nissan #NTB20-89 dated December 8, 2020. I purchased this vehicle from Bates Nissan (5501 East Central Texas Expressway, Killeen TX 76543, 254-781-3837) on February 18, 2021 used with 5448 miles. I was told that it had been owned by an employee at the dealership. It is my understanding, as described in NTB20-89, that a Nissan initiated "stop sale" was put into effect in December of 2020. However, Bates Nissan failed to complete this recall prior to selling it to me and did not inform me that there was an open recall on this vehicle. On July 22, 2022 I had a Nissan dealer (LeBrun Nissan, 396 Grant Ave, Auburn NY 13021, 315-253-7700) attempt to perform this recall. The technician did not find any evidence of visible damage on or near the transmission power wires OEM splice, however step 25's "continuity test" of the transmission power wire failed. I am a highly skilled engineer and have reviewed NTB20-89, and find that the transmission power wire continuity test to battery ground is flawed for the following reasons. 1) The process does not isolate (disconnect all ends) the transmission power wire. Therefore, it quite likely that some DVOM's will show continuity to battery ground causing a false positive. 2) Since the recall is to determine if this wires insulation has failed, a continuity test is not appropriate since it cannot measure the integrity of the wire insulation. Therefore, this test could also test as a false negative and allow vehicles to return to service with insulation that is still compromised/weak. Instead, an insulation dielectric test should be performed on this wire. Issue #2 is concerning, since vehicle safety may be at risk and is the primary reason I am informing NHTSA. My hope is that NHTSA has technical people that can review NTB20-89 and discuss with Nissan. I have no confidence that Nissan can fix this issue.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-05-06
  • VIN: 1N6AA1FB0LN
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Please also reference NTB21-028, NTB21-073. The failed system appears to be the engine/transmission power control. My safety and passenger safety was at risk. A dealer did inspect in May of 2021 and was not able to duplicate and did not perform any corrective action. The problem is twofold. First the vehicle can fail to accelerate during a rolling stop (i.e. entrance into a traffic circle) and because there is no power can roll slowly into oncoming traffic. Second, the vehicle can shift erratically and is slow to shift into the next gear (high RPM before shifting) and can sometimes flair during shifting. I am now aware that Nissan is and has been aware of this issue however this issue is not currently identified as a recall. Bottom line, I think the hesitation/delayed acceleration is a safety issue and wanted to be sure the NHTSA is informed. Thank you

  • Summary: I the last 6 months the truck has the TCM replaced after leaving me stranded on the side of the road. prior to completely going out the two dealers that looked at the truck said there was nothing wrong. the truck has had to be towed in three times to clear the transmission because it thinks it in park. This does not include the multilabel times of having to pulling off the road to shut the truck to reset the transmission. The high pressure fuel pump has gone out then five weeks later the low pressure fuel pump went out. Now a week later the IPDM went out.

Negative 2020 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Major Crooks 2024-02-13

Although my old 2004 Titan was a great vehicle, I am disappointed with the oversized, rough riding, and poorly equipped stereo of the new model. The sound quality is very poor and it only reproduces a limited number of instruments in a song. Additionally, the excessive amount of technology has made things worse.

Positive 2020 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Terrell Stokes 2024-11-28

I spent almost a year researching half-ton trucks before finally deciding on a 2019 Titan Platinum Reserve. I'm surprised that more people aren't buying this truck! It has the best warranty, great looks (although that's subjective), a strong and reliable V8, and the best deal available. When I bought my 2019 Titan PR, they took 15K off the sticker before any real negotiation began. The only two things I would suggest for improvement are: the remote is too small! It feels like it belongs with a Tonka truck, and the ambient lighting is almost non-existent. Other than that, I'm extremely happy.

  2. Enoch Daugherty 2024-09-04

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with you. I recently decided to get a new truck after owning my F-150 for 3 years. After looking at my options, I decided to try a Titan. I was a bit nervous after reading some reviews, but I noticed that most of the reviews by owners were very positive and they loved their Titan. And I have to say, I'm loving mine too! It feels tighter, handles better and rides just as good, if not better, than my Ford did. The gas mileage is about the same for both V8 4wd crew cabs. The only difference is that you lose about 3 inches in the back seat, but the rest of the truck is very comparable in size. The Ford had an advantage in a few more storage areas, a light on the tailgate and a slightly bigger rear seat. However, the Nissan has firmer steering, more comfortable seats and an awesome warranty of 5/100 bumper to bumper. The Ford tows and hauls more, but just by a few hundred pounds. All in all, I'm very satisfied with my Titan and I think I made the right decision. Thanks for listening!

  3. Donnie Stamm 2024-08-20

Hey there! This is a great all-around truck!

  4. Simeon Paucek 2024-07-20

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I'm really pleased with the changes you made to the Second Titan. The increased engine size and improved MPG are fantastic! Thanks so much for your hard work.

  5. Maximillian Lynch 2024-06-18

I'm so glad to hear that you've purchased the 19 crew cab 4x4 Platinum Reserve! It sounds like it's the perfect fit for you, especially for those long road trips. It's great to know that it's more comfortable than other brands you've owned in the past, and that it has plenty of power while still being fuel efficient. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!
