2022 Nissan Titan problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.

First generation (A60; 2003)

Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.

Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

Common 2022 Nissan Titan problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Nissan Titan 2022, several common problems have been reported:

  • Fuel Pump Failure: A significant issue through the years, fuel pump failure in the Nissan Titan can lead to damage to other components like the catalytic converter.
  • Faulty Navigation Systems: Earlier generations of the Nissan Titan had issues with faulty navigation systems, although this has become less significant with the prevalence of smartphones.
  • Limited Engine Options: The Nissan Titan only offers one engine option, a 5.6-liter direct injection V8 engine with a maximum output of 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. While impressive, the lack of variety in engine options may be a drawback for some buyers.
  • Towing Capacity: The 2022 Nissan Titan has a maximum towing capacity between 9,040 lbs and 9,320 lbs, which is notably lower than competitors like the Ram 1500 that can tow up to 12,750 lbs.
  • Interior Quality: The interior of the 2022 Nissan Titan has been criticized for being bland and not as modern as other trucks in its class. While it offers some technology features like an 8-inch touchscreen display and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, it falls short in comparison to competitors like the Ford F-150 and Ram trucks.
  • Electrical Issues: Some owners have reported complete loss of electrical power in their Nissan Titan XD Pro-4X, where the vehicle becomes completely dead with no response from the start button, remote, or door lock buttons. This issue can be particularly concerning and may require professional diagnosis and repair.

These problems highlight some of the key issues that owners of the Nissan Titan 2022 have faced, ranging from mechanical concerns to interior quality and electrical failures.

Are there any problems with the Nissan Titan?

On average, Titan owners have unscheduled repairs 0.3 times annually. Some common complaints about the truck include fuel system problems, interior accessory issues, transmission troubles, uneven tire wear, and engine issues.

Are new Nissan Titans reliable?

When it comes to reliability, the Nissan Titan is leading the way compared to the Ram 1500. In fact, in 2022, J.D. Power awarded the 2022 Nissan Titan a "Great" Quality and a Reliability score of 85 out of 100.

Why is Nissan stopping the Titan?

Nissan isn't selling enough Titans

And that was actually up from the year prior; Nissan sold just 15,063 Titans in 2022. Another sign that the Titan is a flop: remarkably for the U.S. market, the full-size truck is only Nissan's eighth best-selling vehicle.

What is the transmission problem on the Nissan Titan?

These are two common Nissan Titan transmission problems, and they're caused by two separate issues. 1: Slipping on the 4-5 shift is typically caused by a failed solenoid, worn transmission bands, or using the wrong type of ATF. 2: Harsh 2-3 shifts are usually the result of a worn clutch pack.

Negative 2022 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Antwan Bartell 2025-04-21

I recently upgraded to a 2021 Nissan Titan after having a reliable 2004 model. While it handles nicely, I have encountered a few issues. Firstly, the transmission has been problematic, with hard shifts and downshifting that feels like braking. Secondly, the windshield was not installed correctly, causing a distracting noise at higher speeds. Lastly, during a service visit, loose bolts were discovered in the rear suspension. Unfortunately, the service team was unable to diagnose the transmission issue or the windshield noise, but they are working on it. Additionally, the AC unit is quite loud and makes a clunking sound when it cycles on and off. Overall, I am not very satisfied with my purchase. I will be taking it back to the service team tomorrow morning.

  2. Ezequiel Kihn 2024-10-16

I own a Nissan Titan Pro4X, which is a great looking truck. However, I have noticed that it can be a bit laggy when it comes to takeoff power and switching gears, such as downshifting to pass someone or taking off from a light. Additionally, I have found that the infotainment system leaves much to be desired. The maps are not very accurate and the software seems outdated. It also struggles to connect with phones and the voice commands are not very responsive. Despite these issues, I still believe that this truck has a lot of potential. I have had some trouble with the cameras, but overall they work well. While there have been some noises coming from different parts of the truck, I have been able to address them. I think that Nissan could have a great truck if they focused on improving these areas.

Unfortunately, it seems that there are no power foot pedals available for short persons on any trim levels.

  4. Tommie Welch 2024-03-17

The 2021 Titan SV truck runs and handles great. However, there is an issue with mold buildup in the two tracks on the top. Despite having them cleaned and painted by the dealer, the repair is turning yellow and the mold is building up again. It is worth noting that I do not park under or near any trees, but rather in my driveway or in the parking lot at work. While the mold is unsightly, I am confident that a solution can be found to address this issue.

The radio is experiencing interference and cannot be configured despite the installation of a new unit. The issue persists regardless of the selected source.

Positive 2022 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Alphonso Hoeger 2025-06-09

3 year / 35k mile update: I am happy to report that I have experienced no problems, issues, glitches, or rattles with my Titan. I am so satisfied with my ownership that I am not even considering swapping it for another vehicle at this time, which is a rarity for me. At the 20k mile update, I was still impressed with the Titan and it has continued to perform great. Although I wish it had Auto 4WD and the driver's seat could adjust lower, these are very minor compared to the list of issues I had with my 2016 F150. In my original review, I expressed how impressed I was with the Titan and how much I loved driving it. During the test drive, I found that its real-world V8 performance, handling, braking, and comfort were equal to or better than my 2016 F150. I have owned Ridgeline and Tundra, and have test driven all choices (though only bothered to go so far as sitting in the GM). Except for favorable Ram reviews, and knocks on the Titan's exterior styling (the Titan has a couple awkward styling points in my opinion) I disagree with auto reviewers' opinion of the Titan vs competition. Minor styling aside, I feel the Titan has no major shortcomings whereas the others did. Real world gas mileage of all trucks is within 2-4 mpg of each other (they're all horrible, so might as well get a nice sounding and driving V8) and configuration choices had no impact on my decision. The Titan's final negotiated purchase price (not the MSRP as often referred to in reviews) and warranty did have a major impact in my decision though...with the Titan SL I feel like I got an F150 Lariat / Limited (or Ram Laramie / Limited) for an XLT/Big Horn price...and got a 5 year/100k bumper to bumper warranty vs 3 year/36k with Ford and Ram. After 1 month of driving the Titan, I can confidently say that I love the seat comfort, the safety technology works flawlessly, and the engine sounds and drives awesome. Everything is where it should be and is easy to use.Headlights that work (my F150's headlights were beyond useless). Don't Love: Manually locking rear tailgate (need to use a key to lock!). The rear doors don't open as wide as the F150, and I keep trying to open them wider. The transmission has been confused a couple of times...I think it's just the software getting used to my driving.

I used to own a 2017 Titan Platinum Reserve and I must say, the 2020+ Titan is a dream come true. It's almost like Nissan read my mind and made all the changes I wanted to see. I am now a proud owner of a fully loaded 2021 Pro-4x and I couldn't be happier. The seats are incredibly comfortable and the shape is just perfect. The stereo is solid and the sunroof is huge. The build quality is impressive and the interior is quiet. The front end has been tweaked and it looks great. The 9-speed transmission is smoother than the 2017 model and the heated and cooled seats work perfectly. The 2021's are a bit slow to heat up, but they do and quite well. The truck has great tech features for parking and safety. Although I may have preferred the previous Rockford Fosgate Stereo, the Fender system is still good for a stock system. The outstanding warranty is definitely a plus. The only downside is the MPG, which could be better.

  3. Enrico Roberts 2025-05-28

Congratulations on your purchase of the 202 Platinum Reserve! It's great to hear that you are enjoying it so much. While the 'Big 3' are certainly popular, it's always refreshing to see someone choose something different. It sounds like the truck is a perfect fit for you - fast, comfortable, and fuel-efficient. And getting a good deal with zero percent financing is always a bonus! You're right that this truck is underrated and deserves to be at the top of everyone's shopping list. With its great warranty, style, and workmanship, it's definitely a top contender. Enjoy your new ride!

  4. Dayton Lehner 2025-05-17

Hey there! So, I'm a truck enthusiast who likes to trade in every 3 years. Recently, while shopping for a new SUV with my wife, I had a chance encounter with a salesman who suggested I check out the Titan. At first, I was skeptical since I test drove one before my Ram purchase in 2017 and wasn't impressed. However, I promised the salesman I would give it another chance and boy, am I glad I did! On purchase day, I visited the Chevy and Ram dealerships, but then I saw the Pro-4x Titan from a distance and was blown away. It looked amazing and had so many features that I fell in love with it. The interior was just as quiet as the Ram and the ride was smooth. I was sold! Thanks to the salesman's suggestion, I found my dream truck. How's it going? I was just wondering, have you ever driven a Nissan truck? I was surprised to find out that it can actually throw you back in your seat harder than my Hemi! It's got 400 HP and 413 lbs of torque, which is pretty impressive. I actually got a great deal on it with some rebates and 0% financing. I know it might seem strange to be driving a Nissan truck, but once you get behind the wheel, you'll understand why I love it so much. The new style Titan is especially impressive. I just hope they don't start raising the prices now that more people are catching on to how great it is!

  5. Scot Wehner 2025-04-03

I recently purchased a Nissan Titan over the Ram and Chevy as I was in the market for a new truck. After conducting extensive research on the best value for similar price points, I found that the Titan consistently had high consumer reviews and fewer maintenance issues. As someone who does their own maintenance, I appreciated the simplicity of the V8 engine that didn't require high octane fuel. In terms of ride quality, the Titan drives more like a car and is a significant upgrade from my previous truck. The steering is responsive and makes u-turns a breeze. The cabin is quiet and the engine sounds tough when climbing RPMs. The 9-speed drivetrain applies power appropriately and has great acceleration. The interior and tech features are impressive, especially the 9” screen with clear definition and easy-to-use Nissan connect software. The cloth seats are of high quality and very comfortable. Overall, the interior doesn't feel cheap like the Chevy I sat in and is actually quite nice.I definitely agree that this truck is better than the Chevy and slightly better than the Ford. It offers plenty of space in both the front and back for a crew cab, as well as all the necessary outlets and comfort features. Personally, I love the interior and have no complaints. Overall, I think this truck is excellent and deserves more recognition. The price is unbeatable for all the amenities you get, and the 100k warranty is a great bonus. I highly recommend this great truck!
