2019 Nissan Titan problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.

First generation (A60; 2003)

Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.

Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-09
  • VIN: 1N6BA1F45KN
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: I stopped to get diesel and pulled onto the interstate. Within 2 miles of being on the interstate, the engine felt as though it downshifted, lost power, and stalled in a construction one lane zone with no way to get out of traffic. The engine would no longer turn over and the truck would not start. This was a danger, not only to me, but to other drivers on the interstate. Had taken 90 miles away to a certified diesel nissan dealership who said all of the fluids were good and the motor was locked solid. It was not covered by warranty ans was estimated to cost $32,000.00 to replace motor.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-05
  • VIN: 1N6BA1F42KN
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: While towing a 30 foot 5th Wheel trailer up a steep grade on [XXX] in Washington state, the truck's engine abruptly slowed, and subsequent dashboard warning lights appeared. We were forced in to attempting a change of lanes to reach the shoulder. This was extremely difficult and traumatic, due to the steep road grade, abrupt slowing of our vehicle, fast moving upcoming traffic and the number of semi-trucks traveling in the right lanes. Because the speed limit in this area is 70 mph, most vehicles traveling at 80+ mph. But at the time when the truck started to fail, we were traveling at approximately 62 mph. This was an obvious and dangerous hazard to not only myself, but my family and other vehicles in the immediate area of traffic. Without warning or prior indication, our vehicle abruptly slowed down, which caused a great deal of vehicles following ours to quickly change lanes in order to avoid a collision with not only our vehicle/trailer, but other vehicles traveling and maneuvering around ours and other traffic. Once we were able to turn around and "limp" home(which in itself was extremely risky). I brought the truck for diagnostic testing at Advantage Nissan or Bremerton, WA. Upon testing, the fault was shown as an EGR coolant or coolant reservoir fault(s). In researching, it is obvious this is a known historical Safety issue or problem with Nissan's 2016-2019 Cummins 5.0 diesel engine equipped vehicles. ENGINE,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-29
  • VIN: 1N6BA1F40KN
  • Components: ENGINE,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: Purchased from Coparts end of March 2024 2019 Nissan Titan Xd S [XXX] ) Arrived with no keys, no batteries, other engine parts missing. we thought it would run once we got keys and battery for it because it had less than 13,000 miles on it. Connecting bar seems broke, oil pan was off so no oil. Afraid to try to turn over because of all the issues until the engine is pulled and inspected. We feel we received a lemon for it to be in such bad shape with less than 13,000 miles. Plus sold without catalytic converter, thought that was illegal. Can anything be done to help us? ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-25
  • VIN: 1N6BA1F42KN
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: I was driving with the vehicle operating perfectly normal. I turned onto a highway and was accelerating when all of the sudden without any warning lights or alarms the vehicle began to shake vigorously and lose power. I was almost rear-ended by a 18 wheeler trying to get to the shoulder. I had the vehicle towed to a nissan dealership that had it from 8/25/23 through 10/24/23 where they found that the engine crankshaft had failed. Due to this being a common issue the engine was replaced under warranty. The vehicle operated fine upon receiving it but now has check engine lights on. I have also lost all confidence in this truck as I was almost in a accident because of the failure. My resale value has completely diminished as with these nissan titans in general because of the known issues. This was also a pickup used to get back and forth to work and was expensed through my company I work for, so when it was in the shop for 2 months with no loaner I had to buy another vehicle as well as get a company vehicle and lose the expense amount I was receiving from my company for using my vehicle as transportation. This vehicle failure has made me lose all faith in this truck that I can safely get from point A to point B.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-20
  • VIN: 1N6AA1EJ4KN
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I purchased this vehicle on 05/16/23, four days later the check engine light along with the ABS and traction control light came on. I took the truck to the dealership service center, after a week I was called to pick up the truck. On the way home the same lights came on again. I returned the truck to the service center for repair. After two weeks I was called to pick up the truck. Two days later the lights have came back on. After checking several forums online I noticed that there were many people with the same truck experiencing the exact same problem.

TIRES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-09-17
  • VIN: 1N6AA1EJ2KN
  • Components: TIRES
  • Summary: These are NHTSA recalled tires for my 2019 Nissan Titan. I had them inspected (via the recall) at Cedar Park Nissan and even though they showed major sidewall issues (peeling, tread chunk missing, etc.), I was told they were a non-issue. I brought them in a 2nd time because the peeling and marring of tire look like major issues - they dismissed it. These are one of the tire models you state in your "Part 573 Safety Recall Report 21V-169". Specifically "Continental Tire 265/70 R18 116S TL Grabber HTS ". My wife and I were driving home with our 8 and 10 year old sons in the truck when the tire completely blew out and we were able to avoid a collision and wreck by the grace of God. I have photos and I have contacted Cedar Park Nissan (the customer service rep would not connect me with anyone in management or authority and said it was my responsibility to find them sometime). I am fine with new tires - or pursuing a lawsuit and getting as much as court will allow. Nissan's choice. Your help would be appreciated, since this is a defective tire and is in the description of a tire the NHTSA deemed as defective. No warnings given - other than the recall the NHTSA issues that Cedar park Nissan deemed unnecessary. The previous symptoms have already been noted, as Cedar Park Nissan was made aware of them 2 times and sent us away without help. The other 3 tires look poor, as I previously showed them twice now.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-24
  • VIN: 1N6BA1F45KN
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: Frequent and intermittent appearance of ABS, traction control, engine warning and 4WD Error lights on dashboard. All lights appear simultaneously and when they appear, cruise control fails, vehicle downshifts and slows substantially and engine RPMs increase 10-20% above norm for each gear. If vehicle is stopped, turned off and then restarted, conditions return to normal, only to appear again later. During a recent 3,000 mile Florida-Michigan-Florida trip, these incidents occurred a total of 56 times, all while on interstate highways driving 55-70 mph. The incidents do not occur during daily low-speed driving around town. After the recent 3k mile trip, I brought the vehicle to Nissan dealer however they would not service because dashboard lights were not on and vehicle was operating normally. Dealer advised I should wait until lights reappear, then bring vehicle into dealer service bay immediately and “DO NOT TURN OFF IGNITION” because lights will disappear. This situation is difficult because lights only appear when I am driving on the interstate, usually far from home, and they disappear upon restart. Also I would need to immediately find a Nissan dealer with an open service bay.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-01-01
  • VIN: 1N6AA1E51KN
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: 2019 NISSAN TITAN PRO-4X WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK, THE BATTERY VOLTAGE WILL DROP BELOW 12 VOLTS (AS LOW AS 11.75 VOLTS). WHEN THE VOLTAGE IS LOW I'VE NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS CONSTANTLY 'HUNTING' TO FIND THE RIGHT GEAR. ALSO THE THROTTLE CONTROL BECOMES 'SLUGGISH'. WHEN TRYING TO LIGHTLY ACCELERATE IT WILL NOT GAIN SPEED UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS HARSHLY. ON A HANDFUL OF OCCASIONS I'VE EXPERIENCED AN ISSUE WHERE I CAN PUSH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. THE ENGINE RPMS WOULD SLOWLY INCREASE BUT THE TRUCK WOULD CONTINUE TO SLOW DOWN AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT FULLY 'ENGAGED'. ONCE EVERY 2-3 USES OF THE TRUCK IT WILL NOT START AND ACTS LIKE THE BATTERY IS DEAD. I JUMP START IT AND THEN IT CRANKS RIGHT AWAY. I'VE LOAD TESTED THE BATTERY AND IT IS STILL IN GOOD CONDITION. THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP BUT NOW IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM. I'VE HAD TO BUY A PORTABLE BATTERY JUMP STARTER TO KEEP IN THE TRUCK BECAUSE I KEEP GETTING STRANDED. THIS IS ALSO A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE ELECTRICAL CONTROL SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO OPERATE ABOVE 12 VOLTS. WHEN THE VOLTAGE DROPS BELOW 12 VOLTS THEN IT IS POSSIBLE TO RENDER SOME OF THE VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS (INCLUDING SAFETY SYSTEMS) INOPERABLE WHICH COULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN A CRASH CAUSING INJURY AND/OR DEATH. I AM A CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER AND HAVE OVER 25 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICAL CONTROLS.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-11-18
  • VIN: 1N6AA1E53KN
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: NISSAN CONNECT SYSTEM CONSTANTLY RESETS OR REBOOTS, APPLE CARPLAY WORKS INTERMITTENTLY AND RADIO TURNS ON AND OFF, BY ITSELF, CONSTANTLY, WHETHER CAR IS RUNNING OR NOT. MOST TIMES THE RADIO COMES ON BY MERELY APPROACHING THE TRUCK WITH THE FOB ON MY PERSON OR WHEN SIMPLY OPENING THE DOOR. WHEN IT COMES OUT ON UNEXPECTEDLY, IT STARTLES EVERYONE ON BOARD DUE THE VERY LOUD VOLUME, AND CAUSES THE ELDERLY DRIVER TO GRAB THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTLY AND SLAM THE BRAKES WHEN DRIVING. THERE'S NO WAY TO TURN IT OFF UNTIL IT GOES OFF BY ITSELF, SOMETIMES AS LONG AS 2 MINUTES. OTHER TIMES, AND WITH THE SAME SCENARIOS ABOVE THE RADIO AGAIN ON ITS OWN, COMES ON EXTREMELY LOUD WITH A SCREECHING NOISE AS IF CURRENT IS BEING DISCHARGED FROM A HIGH VOLTAGE CAPACITOR AND AGAIN STARTLES THE DRIVER. OF COURSE, ACCORDING TO LEGACY NISSAN IN LONDON, KY, SAYS MERELY, THAT THERE'S NO RECALL CONCERNING MY COMPLAINT.

Negative 2019 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Reymundo Jenkins 2024-11-03

The truck initially seemed amazing and I was impressed with Nissan's reputation. However, after only a year of ownership, I noticed significant rust starting to form despite taking great care of it. I had even paid extra for rust protection from Nissan, but it seems that it was not applied properly. Additionally, I experienced issues with the heated seats not warming up sufficiently and the screen occasionally failing to turn on when starting the truck. Although it was a great truck, I encountered too many problems during my three years of ownership. Water also leaked in from the windows during rain or snow, which was concerning. Ultimately, I decided to part ways with it.

Second Update: My truck now has 82,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with carbon buildup on the intake valves, causing significant loss of power, despite having installed a catch can back at 40,000 miles. If you are considering purchasing a Titan with the direct injection engine, I would advise against it. Instead, I would recommend buying an F150 with its tried and true 5.0 V8, which is not direct injection. I will be selling this truck ASAP as soon as I can get some more money saved up to cover the higher cost of a better truck. And this is coming from the point of view of someone who is an experienced mechanic! Update: My Titan now has 69,000 miles on it, and to be honest, I wish I had never bought it. I have been experiencing some issues with the paint chips on the hood and roof, which are now rusting. The engine is also not performing as well as I had hoped. I have had to remove the intake manifold and clean the intake valves four times now because of heavy buildup of carbon deposits due to the direct injection design of the engine in this truck. Thank goodness I'm an aviation mechanic and can do this myself, but I pity anyone who does not have the ability to do this themselves. Unfortunately, there is no fix to this problem. The brakes have also warped badly and make the truck shudder every time I stop. The dash continues to have a bad rattle due to the flimsy way it is secured. I can confidently say that I will not be owning another Nissan vehicle ever again. I had friends who were previous Nissan owners who tried to talk me out of buying a Nissan, and I regret not listening to them. If you are considering buying a vehicle with a direct injection only engine, I would advise against it. Both Ford and Toyota learned the hard way and have changed their fuel injection system to a dual injection system - part of the time it is port injection to keep the valves clean, and the other part of the time it is direct injection for better fuel economy. If vehicle prices weren't so high right now, I would have gotten rid of this truck months ago. I bought my Titan with 9,000 miles on it and was blown away by the acceleration. Coming from a 2015 F250 with the 6.2 gas engine, my Titan felt like a rocket ship. However, with 44,000 miles on it now, there are a few things I dislike. The paint is not very durable and scratches easily. Even leaning against the side of the bed with a cotton shirt on caused numerous scratches. My Ford never scratched like this. Additionally, there are a lot of rock dings on the hood from highway driving. My Ford had significantly less chips in the paint on the hood when I sold it with 120,000 miles on it. I'm not happy with the cheap paint of the Titan. Another issue is the loss of acceleration power. The truck is not as fast as it was when I bought it. I suspect this is due to the direct injection fuel system and carbon buildup on the intake valves. I will be investigating this soon and blasting the valves with a pecan shell blaster if necessary. On the plus side, the highway gas mileage for a V8 has been very good. However, my average has dropped from 19-20 to 17-18. I suspect this is also due to the carbon buildup on the intake valves. Lastly, the dash has a rattle where it meets the windshield, but I plan to fix it with some foam. Overall, the Titan has its flaws, but it's still a good truck for highway commuting. The leather seats have held up well and the A/C still works great in the summer. Although the OEM General Grabber HTS tires are done at 44,000 miles and hydroplane badly in wet weather, I have driven my truck several times down a dirt road for hunting and the ride is very smooth compared to my F250. The transmission, when new, felt very erratic but has calmed down now and shifts very smoothly. I've made several 6-hour drives deer hunting with it, with a 650 lb four-wheeler in the bed, and it handles the drive very well. The added weight is only slightly noticeable. Overall, it's been a good truck, despite the paint and loss of power. While I can't say I love it like my Ford, I do wish I had held onto my F250, as that was a real truck in my opinion.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan truck. I've taken great care of it, with regular visits to the garage and a recent motor job at just over 50K. However, I've been experiencing some issues with oil leaking and the transmission jumping. Although the dealer reset the engine light and replaced the complete headlight assembly, I'm still having some trouble. I'm not sure if I would recommend investing in a Nissan truck based on my experience, but I hope this information is helpful to you.

I have taken my truck to the dealership numerous times during the 6 months of ownership. Despite Nissan's knowledge of shifting issues, they have yet to provide a solution. It is disappointing to have spent 50k on a truck that performs like one from 20 years ago.

I had a 07 Titan and it was great. However, after upgrading to the 18 Titan and driving 68,000 miles, I've had to replace the transmission and now the timing belt. It's been quite frustrating. I'm not sure if I would buy another Titan, especially since they have been discontinued, but I'm open to exploring other options.

The build quality and components of this vehicle are of really high quality. The cabin noise is dead quiet, even when in traffic or at highway speeds. The engine and transmission work together seamlessly. Although I did have an issue with the engine light coming on, it was covered under warranty (4500 miles) and required an engineering fix that would have cost approximately $1370. As a tow vehicle, it performs exceptionally well, easily pulling a fully loaded trailer of around 6000 lbs. The only downside is that the gas mileage could be better, with around 14-15.6 mpg in the city and 19.9-20.1 mpg on the highway. While towing, the mileage has dropped to approximately 8.5 mpg, which Nissan says is normal. Although I used to get over 13 mpg while towing the same trailer with fewer extras, I have noticed better mileage when not using cruise control and when the transmission is in TOW mode. I am considering trading it in for a Silverado or a Ram, but overall I am still satisfied with this vehicle.

I'm so glad to hear that you've purchased the 19 crew cab 4x4 Platinum Reserve! It sounds like it's the perfect fit for you, especially for those long road trips. It's great to know that it's more comfortable than other brands you've owned in the past, and that it has plenty of power while still being fuel efficient. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

I have had experience with a GMC, 2500 and Ram diesel 2500, but I must say that the Titan XD Pro4X gas is a great truck for an even better price. It has ample towing capacity of up to 10,000 lb. I was initially drawn to it because of the great discounts offered (as brand loyalty to the big 3 makes it an outlier), so why not take advantage of a $10,000 discount? In my opinion, it is even nicer than an F150.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with you. I recently decided to get a new truck after owning my F-150 for 3 years. After looking at my options, I decided to try a Titan. I was a bit nervous after reading some reviews, but I noticed that most of the reviews by owners were very positive and they loved their Titan. And I have to say, I'm loving mine too! It feels tighter, handles better and rides just as good, if not better, than my Ford did. The gas mileage is about the same for both V8 4wd crew cabs. The only difference is that you lose about 3 inches in the back seat, but the rest of the truck is very comparable in size. The Ford had an advantage in a few more storage areas, a light on the tailgate and a slightly bigger rear seat. However, the Nissan has firmer steering, more comfortable seats and an awesome warranty of 5/100 bumper to bumper. The Ford tows and hauls more, but just by a few hundred pounds. All in all, I'm very satisfied with my Titan and I think I made the right decision. Thanks for listening!
