BESIDES THE DRIVER, A PASSENGER IN THE FIAT OBSERVED THE WHITE SMOKE AND EXPERIENCED THE BURNING SMELL AS WELL. THE DEALER THAT SOLD THE FIAT AND WHERE THE FIAT HAS BEEN SERVICED WAS CALLED. THEIR ADVICE WAS TO EXIT THE MOTORWAY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND CALL THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT TO ENSURE THERE WAS NOT AN ONGOING ELECTRICAL FIRE WHICH MIGHT CAUSE THE FIAT TO EXPLODE. THE FIRST AVAILABLE EXIT WAS TAKEN AND THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT CALLED. UPON THEIR ARRIVAL, NO ELECTRICAL FIRE WAS OBSERVED; THEY ADVISED TAKING THE FIAT TO A QUALIFIED REPAIR SHOP IMMEDIATELY TO BE EXAMINED AND TESTED. LATER, THE A/C WAS TRIED, BUT DID NOT SEEM TO WORK. THE A/C WAS THEN TURNED OFF UNTIL THE FIAT WAS TAKEN TO THE FIAT DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN IN THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUPPOSEDLY RAN A FULL RANGE OF DIAGNOSTIC TESTS ON THE FIAT AND IN PARTICULAR THE A/C, INCLUDING TESTING ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, AND FREON LEVELS WHICH WERE OKAY, INDICATING NO FREON LEAKS. THEY TESTED THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE A/C; THEY INDICATED IT WAS PERFORMING AS IT SHOULD. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FIAT DEALERSHIP IN JACKSONVILLE, FL.(MY DESTINATION, AFTER ENCASING THE DAMAGED WINDOW IN CARDBOARD AND DUCT TAPE). THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL, AND FILED A WARRANTEE CLAIM WITH CHRYSLER/FIAT. FIAT HAS DENIED THAT WARRANTEE CLAIM, INDICATING 'GLASS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTEE AND 'THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS DEFECTIVE GLASS'. THE BLOGS ARE FULL OF CLAIMS BY FIAT OWNERS OF THIS VERY SPECIFIC INCIDENT OCCURRING. IT HAS TO DO WITH PRESSURE AND ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS, NOT DEFECTIVE GLASS, PER SE. I ASK THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD TO INVESTIGATE THIS - AND ALL OTHER CLAIMS. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2015 Fiat 500l.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Fiat 500L vehicles manufactured April 23, 2015, to May 10, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with a passenger frontal air bag that was not folded properly during the assembly process. As a result, the air bag may not deploy as designed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
- Consequence: In the event of a crash, if the air bag does not inflate as designed, the front seat occupant is at an increased risk of injury.
- Remedy: Fiat will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began on October 15, 2015. Owners may contact Fiat customer service at 1-888-242-6342. Chrysler's number for this recall is R54.

- Summary: Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Fiat 500L vehicles manufactured March 3, 2012, to July 25, 2014. Irregularities in the folding process during assembly of the driver's knee airbag may result in its improper deployment. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
- Consequence: If the knee airbag air bag does not deploy properly during a crash, there is an increased risk of driver injury.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's knee air bag, free of charge. The recall began on September 26, 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P42.

It's great to hear that you're interested in this car! Despite some negative press, there are many people who have had wonderful experiences with it. One of the best things about this car is its size - it's just a few inches shorter than a Toyota Corolla, making it easy to park almost anywhere. Despite its compact size, it has plenty of room inside for passengers and cargo. While it may not be a sports car, it still handles well and provides a comfortable ride on most roads. I've personally had no issues with it, just regular maintenance. If you're considering buying one, be sure to look for a good deal as the bad press may have affected sales. I really don't understand the negative press reviews for this car. This is actually my second FIAT, trading up from the 500 to the 500L. I've come to the conclusion that people in this country reject things that are different or unique. The design of the 500L is ingenious - for its size, it has amazing interior volume. The ride is very comfortable and it has a great seating position, sitting higher than many crossovers. I'm not sure why the press reviews say the car is under-powered. The engine is turbocharged and - at least in mine - when I hit the pedal that car MOVES! It handles quite well and is fun to drive, even for as tall as it is. Most reviewers have highly criticized the looks of the 500L but I have only gotten nice compliments on it. With all those windows, the high seating position, and spotter mirrors on both sides, all-around visibility is amazing! FIAT has some quirky features and design elements, but I think they make the car all that more appealing. Some of the interior trim could be nicer, but most cars today are filled with hard plastics - most of the hard plastic surfaces are slightly textured, so I don't think they look cheap. I have almost 20,000 miles on mine and aside from routine maintenance, the only issue I've had was with a rattle in the back (fixed by the dealer on the first visit). FIAT stands behind their products with an impressive 4-year/50,000-mile warranty, too. On one hand, it is a shame this car doesn't sell better, but I have never been one to drive what everyone else is driving, so I like driving what I consider to be the best-kept secret out there! Do yourself a favor - ignore the press critics and focus on the reviews of people who drive these cars day in and day out.

In October 2013, I purchased a 500L Easy with automated manual transmission from Fiat of Austin. The manager, Lisa C., went above and beyond to help my wife and I get the Blue Chiaro color we wanted. She searched orders coming into the US and swapped inventory with a regional dealer to make it happen. The delivery was smooth and we quickly got acquainted with the car. The 500L is beautifully styled both inside and out, and is well-built. It performs well in most conditions, although the brakes can be a bit touchy. The transmission is quirky, but it gets the job done. After two years of use, the car remains comfortable, reliable, and versatile. It's excellent for long trips with one passenger and luggage. I also own a Mazda RX-8, so I know a thing or two about performance. The Fiat continues to perform like a champ, and I really like the dual clutch transmission. I recently traded in the 500L for an Alfa Giulia, but during a trip to Rome, my friends and I rode in a variety of taxis, including Mercedes, Kia, Renault, Peugeot, and the Fiat 500L. The Fiat not only held its own, but was the most comfortable of the bunch.

I purchased my Fiat 500L just three weeks ago. Unfortunately, on my way to work, the car started shaking and the transmission light came on. I had to wait for Fiat to open and then have the car towed in. The team at Maxwell Supercenter has been having some difficulty repairing the car, and as a result, I have been without it for a week. While I did receive a call today, after seven days, I still don't feel entirely comfortable or safe in my Fiat. I have decided to return it. I hope that the GM, Lisa C., will be able to assist me with this process. I have been disappointed with the service I have received so far, but I am hopeful that we can come to a resolution soon.

It looked cute and fun at first, but unfortunately, I've had a lot of issues with it. The lights frequently go off, the brakes are inconsistent, and the panel board goes crazy with engine lights and other warnings. When I called the dealership to have it diagnosed, they kept it for a week and then told me that the transmission was gone at only 70,000 miles. I was skeptical since I had driven it there myself. I had researched recalls on this model and was told that all the recalls had been completed, but when I asked where and when, I was informed that the place where it was originally serviced is no longer in business. This was concerning and frustrating, and unfortunately, the corporate side of the company seems to be in complete denial. I highly recommend that you stay away from this car. While I have serviced and maintained it as recommended, I now have the added expense of a new transmission, which they priced at $5,400 to repair. It's disheartening.

I had a bit of a rough time with my car recently. After driving it home, it wouldn't start the very next day. I took it to the shop and they said it was too cold for it there, being in Northern Indiana. I brought it back home and had some starting issues for the next three days, driving about 300 miles. Unfortunately, it eventually broke down completely. The stereo was cutting out and the blowers on the heater/air conditioner stopped working. I called Fiat Roadside assistance three times a day for six days until they finally came to get it. It was towed to the shop where it has been for two weeks. I'm hoping to get it sorted soon, but it's been a bit of a hassle.

My car has been to the FIAT service many times since I got it. Despite experiencing issues such as smoke from the hood and difficulty starting, the service team repeatedly claimed that there was nothing wrong with the car. However, after the warranty expired, the car required a new motor starter and ultimately suffered a complete engine failure. Upon inspection by my trusted mechanic, it was discovered that the engine contained defective and cheap parts. It is clear that the car was sold to me in a defective state, and I feel that FIAT has taken advantage of me.
