The Nissan Quest is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Nissan for model years 1993–2017 over four generations.

The first two generations (internally designated V40 and V41) of the Quest were short-wheelbase models co-developed and manufactured with Ford, aside its badge engineered Mercury Villager. For model year 2004 and the third generation (V42), Nissan ended its joint venture with Ford, manufacturing the Quest on its own. For model year 2011, the fourth generation (RE52) became a widened variant of the Nissan Elgrand minivan and was now manufactured in Japan. For the preceding generations, the Quest loosely shared its chassis and powertrain with the Nissan Maxima.

Following the decline of minivan sales in North America, Nissan ended sales of the Quest after the 2017 model year.

A HIGH-SPEED BUMP OR A SUDDEN BRAKING MAY HAVE CAUSED IT TO GIVE AWAY COMPLETELY AND COULD HAVE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO GO COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL.   • Summary: ON CERTAIN MINI VANS EQUIPPED WITH A FOLDING THIRD ROW REAR SEAT, WHEN THE THIRD ROW SEAT IS RAISED FROM ITS STOWED POSITION, IT ENGAGES STRIKER BRACKETS, ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE SEAT CUSHION. THE FOLD-AWAY STRIKER LOOP IS WELDED TO A MOUNTING BRACKET. THE STRIKER MAY BECOME DETACHED FROM ITS MOUNTING BRACKET DUE TO A BROKEN WELD AT THE POINT OF ATTACHMENT TO THE BRACKET.
  • Consequence: IF THE THIRD ROW SEAT STRIKER WELD FAILS, THE STRIKER COULD SEPARATE FROM THE MOUNTING BRACKET. STRIKER SEPARATION COULD AFFECT THE RISK OF INJURY IN CERTAIN TYPES OF CRASHES.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE THIRD ROW SEAT STRIKER BRACKETS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 19, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

ON VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM JUNE 29, 2004 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 26, 2005, DEALERS WILL RIVET A PLASTIC REINFORCEMENT TO THE BACKSIDE OF THE EXISTING SEAT BACK COVER CARPETING, INSTALL TIE-DOWNS AND A FLANGE ON THE INBOARD SIDE SHIELD.     I experienced several issues with my 2004 Quest, including power window failure after only one month, windshield wipers that have been replaced three times and still do not hug the windshield, air vents that fell out during the first week, loose seat covers that sagged after only two months, improperly installed seat skirts, radio static on all AM stations, weather stripping that comes off and continues to do so even after new stripping is installed, and a DVD player that pops in and out after the engine is shut off. Additionally, the front windows rolled all the way down on their own after I locked and left the vehicle.

    The reliability of the 2004 Quest van was very disappointing. Despite the supposed lifetime of the engine's timing chain, I needed a new one just one month after replacing the front wheel bearings. Unfortunately, Nissan would not cover the $2,500 service job, so I decided to trade it in. If you are considering purchasing a used 2004 Quest van, be very wary if the timing chains have not been replaced yet. Although Nissan issued a tech bulletin about the issue a year ago, there has been no recall. If you are buying a newer year, make sure to bring it in for service if the engine ever makes a whining sound before the warranty is up. Despite my plans to keep the van for more than 5 years and 60,700 miles, I could not justify spending an additional $2,500 at this time.

    I have extensive experience with Nissan vehicles, having owned and worked on several models. However, I must say that this particular Altima has been the most problematic one I have encountered. Unfortunately, at 67,000 miles, I had to replace the alternator at a cost of $672.00. Now, at 87,000 miles, the timing chain is rattling and pecking, requiring a repair that will cost $1,104.63. Despite having put over 200,000 miles on my Altima, I am disappointed with the performance of this particular vehicle.

    The van has been in our possession for 3 years. We have experienced significant issues with the tires. When attempting to report the substandard tire wear to Nissan corporate, they attempted to deflect responsibility by claiming it was a tire manufacturer issue. However, we know that Nissan corporate is responsible for providing tire specifications to the tire manufacturers. We have had to replace the tires 5 times already, with only 41K miles on the van. At 30K miles, we had to perform a complete brake job. Additionally, we have had issues with the CD player and slider door seals detaching. The lower engine cover also keeps falling off. We have found the overall maintenance and reliability of the van to be very poor.

    We purchased this vehicle used with only 25k miles and have been very pleased with its performance. Although we did experience a hairline crack in the catalytic converter weld, which caused some inconvenience, Nissan was able to provide us with new sensors, fuel injectors, a new computer, and other fuel-saving features. We particularly enjoy the entertainment features and navigation system, although updating the latter can be expensive. The Low Tire Pressure Sensor can be a bit sensitive to temperature changes, but it's not a major issue once you turn off the alarm and confirm that there is no real flat tire. We have taken this car on long road trips from the east coast to Texas to Nevada and back to Texas, and it has always driven smoothly. Additionally, the body style is attractive and the interior is spacious.

    This van has been great! The milage is good (21 city - 28 hwy), and despite its age of 210,000 miles, we have had very few repairs - mostly routine. I love driving this van; it is very comfortable, handles well, and has great acceleration! Even though I live in a northern state, it handles winter driving well, even with only FWD and all-season tires. However, I do struggle with backing it up as visibility is lousy.

    Overall, we have been very happy with this van. I absolutely love the interior design, especially the center console. The car continues to drive well and has been extremely reliable. The handling is good and it is comfortable to drive on the highway. However, one drawback is that backing up and parking can be difficult. In terms of materials, I like it but have a few complaints. Firstly, the water temperature and gas gauges are poorly lit and have poor graphics. Secondly, I am not happy with the coating on the center console which has worn off in places and in others has become dirty and cannot be cleaned. We have had a couple of minor electrical problems with console lights going out, but it is not a big deal. Overall, it was a great deal.

    You've owned your Quest for four years and it hasn't required a return trip to the dealer for anything other than a recall on an airbag. When driving 75 mph on long trips, you can expect to average 25 mpg. The engine is fantastic and the interior is huge. If you're in need of a larger vehicle that still gets decent mileage, the Quest is definitely one to consider.
