2022 Nissan Armada problems

The Nissan Armada (retrospectively referred to unofficially as the Nissan Pathfinder Armada) is a full-size SUV manufactured by Nissan for the North American market. From 2003 to 2015, the first-generation Armada was assembled in Canton, Mississippi based on the Nissan Titan. From mid-2016 onwards, the second-generation Armada has been built in Yukuhashi, Kyushu, Japan and shares the same platform as the Nissan Patrol, with American-specific modifications, and went on sale in late mid-2016 as a 2017 model. A luxury version of the Armada has been sold as the Infiniti QX80 (originally QX56).

First generation (TA60; 2004)

The 2004 model Pathfinder Armada was unveiled on April 17, 2003, at the New York International Auto Show. Developed under Carlos Ghosn's NRP (Nissan Revival Plan), development was done in September 1999 to 2003 under lead designers Shiro Nakamura and Diane Allen and chief engineers Yuzo Sakita and Larry Dominique. In January 2001, a final exterior design by Giovanny Arroba had been approved by Sakita, Allen, Nakamura, and Nissan executive management, with the final design freeze being completed in July 2001. It is assigned the platform code TA60.

Prototypes based on the Y61 Patrol were hand-assembled as mules from 2001, with the first TA60-specific prototypes being completed and sent to testing in early 2002. Design patents were filed in 2003, with production starting on August 14, 2003, and going on sale on October 1, 2003.

The Armada had a 5.6 L VK56DE V8 engine that made 305 hp (227 kW) and 385 lb⋅ft (522 N⋅m) of torque. This was mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and the Armada had a choice of either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. There are some Armadas that are capable of using E85. It has a towing capacity of up to 9,000 lb (4,000 kg).

The rear door handles are installed on the "C" pillar as part of a Nissan design tradition that started with the 1986 Nissan Pathfinder. When the four-door Pathfinder was introduced, Nissan chose to conceal the door handles as a part of the "C" pillar trim to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.

The switch to the Armada name occurred in September 2004 for the 2005 model year, where it received new badges without "Pathfinder." The 2005 model year also included a backup camera.

Common 2022 Nissan Armada problems

Common Problems with the Nissan Armada 2022

  1. Vibration and RPM Fluctuation

A common problem reported by owners of the Nissan Armada 2022 is a noticeable vibration accompanied by RPM fluctuations, particularly when the vehicle is in park. This issue is often more apparent with the AC on and can be traced to the engine, which visibly vibrates and causes the power steering fluid to slosh. While no engine codes have been reported, this issue may require a visit to the dealership for diagnostics and resolution.

  1. Accelerator Pedal Vibration

Another common problem with the Nissan Armada 2022 is an annoying resonance or vibration coming from the accelerator pedal around the 1300-1600 RPM range during light driving. This issue has been reported by several owners, but it does not seem to affect all Armadas. It is unclear whether this is a widespread issue or limited to specific vehicles.

  1. Fuel Economy

The 2022 Nissan Armada is equipped with a potent 400-hp V-8 engine and a well-behaved automatic transmission, allowing it to move with authority and confidence. However, the engine suffers from dreadful fuel economy, making it a fuel-thirsty beast. This issue is not unique to the 2022 model and has been reported in previous years as well.

  1. Highway Wandering

Another common issue reported by owners of the Nissan Armada 2022 is that the vehicle tends to meander on the highway, particularly at higher speeds. This issue can be disconcerting for drivers and may require additional attention to maintain a straight trajectory.

  1. Lack of Long-Wheelbase Model

The 2022 Nissan Armada lacks the popularity of its domestic rivals and does not offer a long-wheelbase model, which may be a drawback for some buyers looking for additional interior space or a more stable ride.

  1. Cabin Contains Outdated Bits

While the 2022 Nissan Armada boasts a quiet, comfy cabin that contributes to its upscale vibe, some elements look a little dated, which may be a turnoff for buyers seeking a more modern interior.

  1. No Complimentary Scheduled Maintenance

Unlike some of its competitors, the 2022 Nissan Armada does not offer complimentary scheduled maintenance, which may add to the overall cost of ownership for some buyers.

  1. Brake Problems

While not specific to the 2022 model year, it is worth noting that the Nissan Armada has a history of brake problems, with the 2006 model year being the worst for this issue. However, there have been no specific reports of brake problems for the 2022 model year.

  1. Tire Pressure Monitoring System

The 2022 Nissan Armada is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that alerts drivers when one or more of their tires have low air pressure, too high air pressure, or a slow leak or flat. While this is not a problem per se, it is an important feature that drivers should be aware of and monitor regularly to ensure safe driving conditions.

Negative 2022 Nissan Armada car reviews

  1. Demarcus Schimmel 2025-06-15

The 2020 Nissan Armada provided a comfortable ride and handled the road well, feeling more like a car than a truck. It offered plenty of room for our family of four and all our gear. However, the gas mileage was low at 15 mpg and there was noticeable air/wind noise above 55 mph on long trips. The entertainment system was not as advanced as other vehicles in the industry, with my 2015 Toyota having more features. The most frustrating issue was a vibration that started around 40,000 miles, occurring around the shift points (1200 and 1800 rpms) and causing the tachometer to bounce around until it shifted. There was also a noticeable feel in the gas pedal and an audible droning sound, especially when the car was under load. Despite multiple visits to the dealer, they were unable to fix the issue. If this is considered normal behavior for the car, I would recommend considering other options.

  2. Richie Macejkovic 2025-04-19

The car drives great on the highway and provides a smooth and comfortable ride. However, the gas mileage is not the best, averaging around 17 mpg on a 500-mile trip. Additionally, the infotainment/navigation system is not user-friendly and lacks CarPlay or Android Auto. The stock tires are also not the best, causing wheel slippage in the rain under moderate acceleration, despite only having 18k miles on the vehicle.

  3. Herman Cormier 2024-11-01

The Nissan Armada is a great car with a powerful V8 engine that delivers the expected fuel efficiency. The interior is spacious and comfortable, with a well-designed infotainment center and convenient steering wheel controls. The side steps make getting in and out of the car easy, and it even accommodates a 4 wheel walker with ease. While there have been some concerns with the battery, Nissan is actively working to resolve the issue. Overall, the Armada is a solid choice for anyone in the market for a new car.

We recently purchased a used 2020 Armada with low mileage and only one previous owner. Unfortunately, we have encountered some issues with the vehicle. The engine has been making a strange noise that the dealership has been unable to explain, and the gas mileage has not been as good as we had hoped. Additionally, we have been experiencing some rattling in one of the seats, which we have tried to fix several times. We have also had some electrical issues, such as the driver's side no longer unlocking using the touch option and the touch screen glitching and moving around without being touched. Furthermore, we have noticed that the navigation maps are outdated, with some streets and businesses no longer present from several years before 2020. Despite these issues, we remain hopeful that we can resolve them and enjoy our Armada to its fullest potential.

We rented a 2019 Armada SL for an 8-day road trip. It was a comfortable ride with a strong and quiet V8 engine. Although the gas mileage was not great and the tank was small, we were not surprised by this. The additional seating in the back was nice when we didn’t have our luggage with us, but it was not very practical if you needed storage space. The car had many bells and whistles, such as rear and overhead camera views for backing up, which were nice but not necessary. However, the abundance of features made driving the car a bit of a hassle as the system needed to reset regularly. The front radar unit used for emergency braking and cruise control was broken from the start, but we were able to work around it with the help of the owner's manual. There were some other minor issues, such as a warning to check the back seat that occasionally honked the horn unnecessarily. Overall, we enjoyed our trip in the Armada SL despite these minor inconveniences. There were some other warnings that I turned off, but they kept reappearing every time I started the car. Overall, the implementation of these features was really poor. In the end, it was a relief to return the Armada. After just one week, I was convinced to stay away from buying one of these. Although the minor annoyances never left us stranded, I wouldn't want to be stuck paying the repair bills for this vehicle. The radar unit alone probably costs $1k, and it would likely take ten trips to the dealer to figure out why the volume knob sometimes stops working. Our rental only had 20k miles on it, so I can only imagine what a mess this Armada will be at 40k.

Positive 2022 Nissan Armada car reviews

  1. Broderick Jast 2025-06-06

Congratulations on your new 21 Platinum Armada! It's great to hear that you're enjoying all the amazing features it has to offer, including the updated screen and wireless carplay. Although the wireless charger can be a bit finicky, it's a small price to pay for such a comfortable and spacious SUV that's perfect for your family. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

  2. Ryann Kohler 2025-05-19

Hi there! I recently traded in my 12 Expedition for this new car and I'm really enjoying it so far! Although I was a bit disappointed that it didn't have CarPlay, I decided to go for it anyway. The car is a lot of fun to drive and has great sight lines. It also has lots of low end torque and rides smoothly and quietly. The only issue I've had is an annoying rattle near the shifter/AV console that I can't seem to figure out. I've only driven it for less than 500 miles, so I think I'll take it in for a look. I haven't had a chance to tow anything with it yet, but based on its HP and transmission, I'm confident it will pull my 3,500 lb boat around just fine. Even my 7-year-old Ford was able to handle it with ease. Thanks for listening!

Firstly, let's talk about the mileage. In the real world, the mileage is the same as the Tahoe/Yukon, but some people act like it's only 10mpg...lol. However, the V8 is second to none and will run forever. It has tons of power and is incredibly smooth. You get 99% of an Infinity Qx80, as they are built in the same plant in Japan. The styling is fantastic and apparently, people around town agree, as I have received many compliments on my Platinum pearl white model. It's very classy. The interior is a wonderful mix of tech and classy dash dials/buttons, and pictures don't do it justice. The seats are beautiful and comfortable. My only two complaints about the interior are: 1. If you're taller than 6ft 1in, the driver's seat might not go back quite far enough. 2. The steering wheel could be a little thicker/softer leather wrap. However, these are not huge issues, but worth noting. The suspension is plush and very comfortable, but that also lends itself to some bump steer over uneven/harsh roads. I upgraded the front shocks to Bilstein and now it rides amazingly all the time. It was a $700 upgrade with labor, but it was worth it. The rear suspension is also amazing.

The Armada Platinum is a fantastic choice for those who want a powerful and luxurious vehicle without breaking the bank. Unlike the Highlander Hybrid or the X7 or MB GLS 450, the Armada growls like a beast and is incredibly powerful, reaching 60MPH in just 6.3 seconds. Plus, with a reasonable price tag, middle-income earners like myself can consider owning one. The bells and whistles that come standard with the Armada Platinum are impressive, unlike the X7 5.0 and AMG. And, if you buy at the end of the year or opt for the previous generation model, you can get a hefty discount. The real leather seats, including in the third row, are a luxurious touch that sets the Armada apart from similarly equipped vehicles like the Toyota Sequoia TRD PRO. The standard 13-speaker BOSE sound system is also a treat for the ears. The Armada's silk smooth 4 corner independent suspension is a great feature that soaks up bumps with ease, and it can tow up to 8,500lbs. While the steering feel is loose, the body roll is minimal, making it a confident choice for cornering. Plus, with an average of 15 miles per gallon with unleaded gas, the Armada is a great choice for those who want a powerful and luxurious vehicle without sacrificing fuel efficiency.Of course, I've been taking it easy on the throttle, but I can't resist the excellent sound of the engine. It makes me feel like I'm driving a Mustang GT! I gave it 4 stars because of the gas mileage, but overall, especially when compared to six-figure name brand vehicles, I think it's a great choice. I'm not an automotive analyst or critic who drives tons of new fancy vehicles every year, but for American middle-income earners, I would definitely recommend considering the Armada Platinum!

When I was looking to buy a new large SUV, I found that the Nissan offered more for less. As someone with experience in R&D for a key supplier for automotive manufacturers, I know that there is no such thing as a free lunch. However, I have found that the Nissan is well-built and reliable, with no problems in 15K miles. It tows well up to 5000lbs, and the load-leveling aspect helps level the truck. The vehicle has excellent back seat legroom, but the third row is more suitable for kids. I have found the driver's seat to be less comfortable for those over 6'1
