The Nissan Armada (retrospectively referred to unofficially as the Nissan Pathfinder Armada) is a full-size SUV manufactured by Nissan for the North American market. From 2003 to 2015, the first-generation Armada was assembled in Canton, Mississippi based on the Nissan Titan. From mid-2016 onwards, the second-generation Armada has been built in Yukuhashi, Kyushu, Japan and shares the same platform as the Nissan Patrol, with American-specific modifications, and went on sale in late mid-2016 as a 2017 model. A luxury version of the Armada has been sold as the Infiniti QX80 (originally QX56).
First generation (TA60; 2004)
The 2004 model Pathfinder Armada was unveiled on April 17, 2003, at the New York International Auto Show. Developed under Carlos Ghosn's NRP (Nissan Revival Plan), development was done in September 1999 to 2003 under lead designers Shiro Nakamura and Diane Allen and chief engineers Yuzo Sakita and Larry Dominique. In January 2001, a final exterior design by Giovanny Arroba had been approved by Sakita, Allen, Nakamura, and Nissan executive management, with the final design freeze being completed in July 2001. It is assigned the platform code TA60.
Prototypes based on the Y61 Patrol were hand-assembled as mules from 2001, with the first TA60-specific prototypes being completed and sent to testing in early 2002. Design patents were filed in 2003, with production starting on August 14, 2003, and going on sale on October 1, 2003.
The Armada had a 5.6 L VK56DE V8 engine that made 305 hp (227 kW) and 385 lb⋅ft (522 N⋅m) of torque. This was mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and the Armada had a choice of either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. There are some Armadas that are capable of using E85. It has a towing capacity of up to 9,000 lb (4,000 kg).
The rear door handles are installed on the "C" pillar as part of a Nissan design tradition that started with the 1986 Nissan Pathfinder. When the four-door Pathfinder was introduced, Nissan chose to conceal the door handles as a part of the "C" pillar trim to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.
The switch to the Armada name occurred in September 2004 for the 2005 model year, where it received new badges without "Pathfinder." The 2005 model year also included a backup camera.

- Summary: While driving the brake light came on and when I attempted to stop pedal goes almost to the floor and loud grinding noise is heard. I was able to barely stop the vehicle, I then shut off the vehicle, checked around the vehicle as well as engine compartment not finding any noticeable issue. Restarted the vehicle and brake light was off able to stop with no issue and no grinding noise was heard. Mentioned this to dealer when it was brought in for oil change and they indicated that there was no notice of a recall for this issue. They checked the vehicle and could not find any issues. This has happened several more times where brake light goes on, issue with trying to stop and loud grinding noise. The remedy seems to be to get the vehicle stopped, barely, shut off the vehicle, wait for a short moment and then restart the vehicle. This is very concerning if this happens when needing to make an immediate stop as it takes a bit to get the vehicle to stop when this occurs. Nothing in particular is being done while driving to cause this to happen and I have not been able to replicate.

How is this not a safety recall especially when I’m on the freeway driving 65 MPH and all of a sudden brake light comes on! I have to pull over safely and hard to do especially when the brake does not engage at all when the light is on. This is a huge safety concern for me due to the fact that I never know when this is going to happen again. What if it happens while I need to come to a quick emergency stop?! This is a major safety concern that needs to be looked into!!

- Summary: MY VEHICLE IS HAVING A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. THIS IS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE IS NO RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE. AS I'M DRIVING MY BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND I LOSE ALL CONTROL OF BREAKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE I'VE BEEN ON 95 WITH MY TWO KIDS IN THE CAR. I'VE HAD MY BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED THINKING THAT WAS THE ISSUE AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I WAS ON 95 I LOSE ALL CONTROL OF STOPPING THE BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND I CANNOT STOP MY VEHICLE. I LOOKED UP THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE. I HOPE THIS GETS RESOLVED BECAUSE I WILL NEVER BUY A NISSAN VEHICLE EVER AGAIN.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM

- Summary: ON MONDAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY DAUGHTER, SISTER, NIECE AND NEPHEW TO SCHOOL I NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS FLASHING. AT THE TIME I ASSUMED IT WAS THE SEAT BELT LIGHT SO I HAD EVERYONE CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT THEIR BELTS WERE BUCKLED. AFTER REALIZING THAT EVERYONE WAS BUCKLED I ASKED MY SISTER TO GOOGLE SEARCH WHAT THE LIGHT MEANT. COME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE AIR BAGS IN THIS VEHICLE, I DROVE TO MY FATHERS HOUSE AND HE HOOKED UP HIS CODE READER AND WE FOUND TWO CODES ONE WAS B1182 AND B1023. B1182 IS FOR THE AIR BAG SYSTEM AND THE B1023 WAS FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SAYING THAT IT IS INOPERABLE.

THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) ASSEMBLY CONTAINS AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) RELAY THAT HAS A DIODE FOR ELECTRICAL CURRENT NOISE REDUCTION. THE ECM RELAY MAY ALLOW SILICON VAPOR TO FORM AND, OVER TIME, THE SILICON EVAPORATES FROM THE DIODE MOLDING WHICH CAUSES SILICON OXIDE TO DEVELOP ON THE ECM RELAY CONTACT DUE TO ARCING.
- Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE STALLING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

THE LOWER CONTROL LINK ASSEMBLY HAS TWO CYLINDRICAL COLLARS FORMING THE INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINTS TO THE CHASSIS. DUE TO AN IMPROPER WELDING PROCESS SOME COLLARS MAY CONTAIN WELDS THAT DO NOT MEET STRENGTH SPECIFICATIONS.

A WIRE MAY HAVE BEEN PLACED IN AN INCORRECT POSITION IN THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR HOUSING. THIS RESULTS IN AN INCORRECT ROUTING OF WIRES BETWEEN THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER AND THE TOWING VEHICLE WIRING SYSTEM.
- Consequence: THIS HARNESS WOULD RESULT IN POWER FROM THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER GOING TO THE TOWING VEHICLE DASH LIGHT CIRCUIT RATHER THAN THE TRAILER BRAKES. THIS RESULT WOULD BE THE LACK OF TRAILER BRAKING WHEN THE TOWING VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IT WOULD ALSO RESULT IN THE TOWING VEHICLES DASH LIGHTS BEING ACTIVATED WHEN THE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE FAILURE OF THE APPLICATION OF THE TRAILER BRAKE COULD RESULT IN REDUCED ABILITY TO STOP AND CONTRIBUTE TO A POSSIBLE CRASH.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your SUV! The rear camera sounds like a real lifesaver, and it's great to hear that you haven't had any problems with it. The lift gate in the back sounds like a really convenient feature, especially with a new baby and groceries. It's fantastic that the 3rd row seats fold down flat, giving you so much extra room. Hi there! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We purchased this SUV because we frequently use a travel trailer and it has been a great fit for us. Despite its size, the engine and design make it feel much smaller and easier to drive. One thing we wanted to mention, which other owners may not have, is that if you plan on towing with this vehicle, it's important to get the factory tow package. This package includes lower rear end gears and stabilizing shocks that allow the Armada to pull up to 9,100 lbs for a 2 wheel drive and 9,000 lbs for a 4 wheel drive. Without the factory hitch and other features, a standard Armada can only pull 6,500 lbs. It's impressive that there are very few SUVs that can pull this much weight! Overall, we find this SUV to be powerful, capable, and spacious. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us!

Bought 2006 Armada LE Tech package sirius and DVD. I'm so glad I did! I absolutely love the performance and comfort it provides. The 3rd row split is also a great feature for cargo and kids. It pulls our boat with ease, you'd hardly even know it's there! While it may not have the best gas mileage, it's the perfect fit for our family of 4 and our boat. There's simply nothing that compares to this SUV!

I have around 200 motorcycle road races under my belt, and I must say that the Armada is the most enjoyable SUV to drive that I could ever imagine. I live in the North Georgia mountains, which have numerous hairpins, 15 mph curves with increasing and decreasing radius turns within uphills and downhills. I am extremely satisfied with my experience and highly recommend the Armada.

I recently traded my 02 Suburban for an 06 Armada, but unfortunately, it has not been a great experience. From the first day, the Armada has been vibrating at 55 mph. Although the dealer fixed the problem, it started vibrating again at 80 mph, and the dealer refused to fix it, claiming that there was nothing wrong with the car. Additionally, I have had to replace the window regulator twice, and I am waiting for two more to be replaced. At just 500 miles, I had to fix the airbag warning system. I am now going back to the dealer to have the A/C and front brakes serviced, as the dual climate is not working and the car is not cooling during very warm days after 45 minutes of driving. At 7k miles, the front brakes are making a lot of noise. Furthermore, the car feels unstable on I-10 and wanders a lot, even after a 4-wheel alignment. For context, my current cars are an 05 Nissan Altima, 78 Nissan 280Z, and 90 Nissan 300ZX (2+2 & 2+0), and my previous cars were a 79 280ZX, 01 Xterra, and 90 Sentra.

I was surprised to read these reviews. I have experienced some small problems such as rattling windows and sunroof, creaking interior, and a slightly rough ride. Additionally, the fuel economy could be better. I have visited the dealership frequently, but I still love driving the car. However, the annoyances are too many for a vehicle in this price range. Nissan needs to improve the plastic interior. If noise is not an issue for you, this is still an excellent vehicle. Have you noticed the cable driven windows?
