The Ford Ranger is a compact or mid-size pickup marketed globally by Ford over a series of generations, varying between both in-house or outside development and manufacturing — and with a hiatus in North America from 2011–2018.
Debuting as a compact pickup in North America in 1982 for the 1983 model year, the Ranger was later introduced in some South American countries. From 1998 to 2011, the Ranger nameplate was used for models developed by Mazda for sale outside the North American market. In 2011, Ford introduced the first Ranger based on the T6 platform. Considered a mid-size pickup truck, the model was developed in-house by Ford Australia. In that same year, the North American-market Ranger was discontinued, leaving the T6 platform-based Ranger as the sole Ranger model worldwide.
For the 2019 model year, the Ranger was reintroduced in North America using the globally-marketed T6 model. It is manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant at Wayne, Michigan. The Ranger is smaller than the F-150 and larger than the Maverick in the Ford North American pickup truck range, while for markets outside the Americas it is typically the only Ford pickup offered for sale.
The second generation of the T6-based Ranger was released in 2021 for worldwide markets, using a revised T6 platform.

NO AFTER MARKET RADIO OR CD PLAYER OR ANY ELECTRICAL DEVISE HAS EVER BEEN INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. IT SIMPLY CAUGHT ON FIRE ON ITS OWN WHICH IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT WE IN NO WAY CAUSED. WE HAVE NOT TRIED TO REPLACE ANYTHING AT THIS POINT. I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any problems with your Ranger! It's impressive that it's still running strong at 120,000 miles. The body seems to be in great shape, with only minor surface rust in normal locations, and the paint looks very good. Even though it hasn't been garaged and is in the Northeast, it seems to have held up well.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share with you that I bought this car from my father back in '93 and it's been through a lot, but it's still running smoothly and quietly. It's got 193,000 miles on it now. The only problem I've had is that the valve cover seals keep breaking. Have you ever experienced something like this?

I purchased this Ranger as a used vehicle back in 2003 and have since driven it for just under 100,000 miles. It's a XLT regular cab with a long bed and the 4.0 V6/automatic. Although I wasn't necessarily in the market for a truck, it was the right price and fit my needs perfectly. While it's true that these vehicles are known for their durability and longevity, they do require meticulous care to avoid dents and rust.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share that I've been the proud owner of my truck for 9 years now. I bought it used back in '93 and it has served me well with 150K miles on it. Over the years, I've had to replace a few parts such as the RABS valve, fuel regulator, P/S pump, and water pump. The A/C has leaked down, most likely due to a compressor seal issue. Despite these minor setbacks, I still really like my truck. The engine is strong and it performs well off-road. In fact, I even replaced the auto-locking hubs with Warn manual hubs to make it even better. Thanks for listening!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Ranger XLT longbed that I purchased back in 1990. While I wish there had been a lemon law in place at the time, I did have a few issues with the vehicle. After a few thousand miles, I had to have the dealer install a new rear axle as the old one was being worn in two. Despite purchasing the Ford rust protection, the vehicle began showing signs of rust at 150,000 miles and unfortunately, it is now a pile of rust at 270,000 miles. However, I did have a positive experience with the rebuilt engine that I installed at 133,000 miles. I've actually put more miles into the rebuilt engine than the factory engine! Although the check engine light continues to come on, I've had dealers look at it and I'm still working on resolving the issue. Overall, I've had some ups and downs with my Ranger XLT, but I hope this information is helpful to you.

Hi there! I noticed that you're interested in the '88 truck. I had one too, but I think the 2-year difference won't make much of a change. Mine was a 5-speed and I found it quite difficult to drive, so I would recommend getting an automatic. Also, I had the 2.3 liter engine, but I think the V6 would be a better choice. While the truck was pretty tough, I did have some issues with it all over, and ended up spending more than it was worth to get it fixed. So, unless you're only planning to use it occasionally, I wouldn't recommend it. Let me know if you have any other questions!
