2021 Jeep Grand cherokee problems
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a range of mid-size SUVs produced by the American manufacturer Jeep. At its introduction, while most SUVs were still manufactured with body-on-frame construction, the Grand Cherokee has used a unibody chassis from the start.
Development
The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors Corporation (AMC) was designing a successor to the Jeep Cherokee. Three outside (non-AMC) designers—Larry Shinoda, Alain Clenet, and Giorgetto Giugiaro—were also under contract with AMC to create and build a clay model of the Cherokee XJ replacement, then known as the "XJC" project. However, the basic design for the Cherokee's replacement was well under way by AMC's in-house designers and the 1989 Jeep Concept 1 show car foretold the basic design.
As AMC began the development of the next Jeep in 1985, management created a business process that is now known as product lifecycle management (PLM). According to François Castaing, Vice President for Product Engineering and Development, the smallest U.S. automaker was looking for a way to speed up its product development process to compete better against its larger competitors. The XJC's development was aided by computer-aided design (CAD) software systems making the engineers more productive. Meanwhile, new communication systems allowed potential conflicts to be resolved faster, thus reducing costly engineering changes, because all drawings and documents were in a central database. The system was so effective that after Chrysler purchased AMC in 1987, it expanded the system throughout its enterprise, thus connecting everyone involved in designing and building products.
The Grand Cherokee thus became the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product. Development work for the new Jeep model continued and Chrysler's employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late-1980s release date; however, CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late 1992 as an Explorer competitor. Unlike the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee utilized monocoque (unibody) construction, whereas the Explorer was a derivative of the Ranger pickup with a separate body-on-frame. A Dodge-branded version was designed as a precaution should Jeep dealers struggle to handle so many Grand Cherokee units.
The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The vehicle that was driven was a Poppy Red Clear Coat 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ Laredo with a quartz cloth interior and high-back bucket seats. Then Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young, from the Jefferson North Assembly Plant on North Jefferson Avenue via a police escort to Cobo Hall, up the steps of Cobo Hall and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Sales of the 1993 model year Grand Cherokee began in April 1992.
Production of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan. European Grand Cherokees are manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr. The Grand Cherokee "played a significant part in reviving Chrysler's fortunes by moving it into the then-nascent market for high-margin sports utility vehicles."
Upon its introduction, it was the first full-scale manufacture of an automobile in the US using HFC-134a refrigerant in place of HCFC-12 for the HVAC system.

Was told they had no remedy for recall at that time. Morgantown jeep then proceeded to fix the rear suspension coil recall. Never notified me the part that was recalled was in fact broken when it was removed. Instead replaced it then told me my rear suspension, Structs, and say bar links are broken on both sides of my rear end which mechanically is attached to these coils which is the resulting damages of driving the vehicle for 40,000 miles with improper installed coils. I report this to Mopar when giving them the car, the rear end always bounced. I went through my first set of tires in less than 18,000 miles due to this. My Case managers name was mary, She was very Rude. Called me a liar more than once. They would not even call me to come pick my car up. When talking to the Customer service guy at jeep in morganttown. Also asked for submission of buy back program due to value dropping more than 10,000 dollars in 3 weeks time, Attempted trade off for 38,000- owed 42,000 in Octor 2022. Nov price dropped to 32,000 trade in. Value now for trade in due to severity of mechanical issues is now down to less than 28,000, I said 55,000 dollars for this car. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-01
- VIN: 1C4RJKBG2M8
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Multimedia screen blacked out, the touchscreen itself works but the screen is black (or blank) we took this to the dealership and they informed us they are not sure how to fix the issue other than replace the whole screen, we had taken the vehicle to the dealership prior stating the screen would cut out or black out. The dealership found nothing wrong. Finally when the screen completely blacked out the vehicle was out of warranty by 1,000 miles and would not be covered under the warranty. We do not have the finances to pay for the replacement. The multimedia touchscreen is the hub of the entire car, we are unable to view anything behind us when backing up the car in reverse as the rear view camera is tied to the screen. This poses a risk of injuring children when backing up. We are also unable to control multiple settings within the vehicle as well as able to view any warning lights that may pop up. The dealer has stated they are aware of similar issues with the same make/model. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership. The only warning we have had is the screen blacking out and reseting while driving and the screen blacking out for extended periods of time before resoring.

- VIN: 1C4RJEAG3MC

- Summary: I have a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has 8506 miles on it, I am the original owner. 7 months ago I was in the neighborhood, and it started hesitating, and the engine stopped, no warning lights nothing, after waiting I started it back up and drove home, and it has been fine until last Saturday. Saturday we were at a busy red light in the turn lane, light turned green I turned, car shut off no warning lights nothing. I was stuck in the middle of traffic and could not move the car. The jeep was towed to the shop, premature fuel pump failure. My problem with this is it could have gotten me killed or my children. Two weeks outside the warranty and I am out an extra 2000.00, because unless your car is dead, or it is a recall the jeep dealership always sends the car back saying they can not find anything wrong, extremely dangerous situation to be put in, I am just grateful I was not on the highway when it happened the second time.

The Full Size Spare has never been used and has over 7 parallel gouges on the inner sidewall. It came like that from the dealer. No one wants to make it good. I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your new Grand Cherokee Limited!

I recently traded in my 2015 Grand Cherokee Diesel. Unfortunately, after the Eco-Diesel 'fix' mandated by the EPA, the engine never produced the same power/torque and had many problems. However, I am now the proud owner of a 2021 upgraded Grand Cherokee Limited with the V8 engine and tow package, among other upgrades (not the V6 as suggested below). I couldn't be happier with my purchase! Although I haven't towed anything yet, I'm confident that the vehicle has adequate power to do so. Jeep recommends the installation of a trailer brake controller, but unfortunately, my dealer said they couldn't install it. The vehicle has all the latest gadgets, including lane management, blind spot monitor, parking assist, parking obstacle and front collision warnings, and numerous other configurable apps. The vehicle handling is much improved over the no-longer produced diesel model. The only downside is the 400+ page manual, which can be hard to follow in some places.

I recently traded in my Jeep after owning it for just under two years. During that time, I put 58,000 miles on it, mostly driving on highways and local streets. Despite the high mileage, the Jeep drove flawlessly and I only needed to visit the dealership for routine maintenance like oil changes and tire rotations. Overall, it was one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. While the V6 engine was a bit coarse and lacked torque for the size and weight of the vehicle, I opted for the 5.7 engine in my new 2021 Grand Cherokee L. I never experienced any recalls or needed any repairs during my time with the Jeep, and the brakes worked perfectly with no steering vibrations at high speeds. The only minor issue I had was with the rearview mirror on the driver's side door, which didn't angle out enough to give me full blind spot coverage when I was in the middle lane. However, this was a small complaint and didn't detract from my overall positive experience with the Jeep. I ultimately traded it in for a 2021 Grand Cherokee L Summit with a 5.7 engine.

The paint job may not be the best, but I believe that this SUV is supposed to be the most celebrated one ever. Perhaps they could focus more on what they are building.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L that I purchased in August. Unfortunately, after only a month and less than 200 miles, I experienced some issues with the transmission. I was understandably upset and had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The dealership offered to repair the vehicle free of charge, but I declined and asked to speak with the manager. The sales manager was very understanding and offered to exchange the vehicle for another of the same make and model. While my car payment is a bit higher now, I'm grateful for the dealership's willingness to work with me. I did experience some additional issues with the vehicle, including a recall and some problems with the uconnect screen, but I'm hopeful that these will be resolved soon. Overall, I appreciate the dealership's efforts to make things right and I'm looking forward to enjoying my new vehicle. Thank you for listening!

The interior is small, the controls are complicated, and the fuel economy is terrible.

The stock vehicle originally came with Pirelli tires, but FMC is now promoting Italian-made products in America with no warranty. Unfortunately, the tires were only valued at $2,000 for their performance and only lasted 20,000 miles. It's important to note that Pirelli does not offer a warranty on tires sold with new cars. Additionally, the brakes and rotors on the rear of the vehicle pitted and failed. I have noticed that several others have complained about this issue, but unfortunately, JEEP has not taken any action. Despite these problems, there are still many things that I like about the vehicle. However, I am hesitant to purchase another JEEP due to their lack of support for their customers' issues.

In my experience, I found that the car did not meet my expectations for the price. Although the Trailhawk model had many options such as heated seats and ventilated seats, the quality of some of the materials and the general fit and finish of the car were not up to par. Unfortunately, my Grand Cherokee started to creak when I made turns and there were a couple of rattles throughout the cabin as I went down the road, which was disappointing. However, the air suspension provided an impressive ride for an SUV. If you are considering a model with full-time 4WD, be aware that the average MPG may be lower, as I struggled to average 20 MPG with my 3.6 V6 engine. Power was adequate with the V6, though. Although I did not have any mechanical problems, the body integrity issues made me hesitant to purchase another Jeep. While I understand that Jeeps are known to have their issues, this experience was a bit too much for me.
