2005 Nissan Armada problems
The Nissan Armada (retrospectively referred to unofficially as the Nissan Pathfinder Armada) is a full-size SUV manufactured by Nissan for the North American market. From 2003 to 2015, the first-generation Armada was assembled in Canton, Mississippi based on the Nissan Titan. From mid-2016 onwards, the second-generation Armada has been built in Yukuhashi, Kyushu, Japan and shares the same platform as the Nissan Patrol, with American-specific modifications, and went on sale in late mid-2016 as a 2017 model. A luxury version of the Armada has been sold as the Infiniti QX80 (originally QX56).
First generation (TA60; 2004)
The 2004 model Pathfinder Armada was unveiled on April 17, 2003, at the New York International Auto Show. Developed under Carlos Ghosn's NRP (Nissan Revival Plan), development was done in September 1999 to 2003 under lead designers Shiro Nakamura and Diane Allen and chief engineers Yuzo Sakita and Larry Dominique. In January 2001, a final exterior design by Giovanny Arroba had been approved by Sakita, Allen, Nakamura, and Nissan executive management, with the final design freeze being completed in July 2001. It is assigned the platform code TA60.
Prototypes based on the Y61 Patrol were hand-assembled as mules from 2001, with the first TA60-specific prototypes being completed and sent to testing in early 2002. Design patents were filed in 2003, with production starting on August 14, 2003, and going on sale on October 1, 2003.
The Armada had a 5.6 L VK56DE V8 engine that made 305 hp (227 kW) and 385 lb⋅ft (522 N⋅m) of torque. This was mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and the Armada had a choice of either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. There are some Armadas that are capable of using E85. It has a towing capacity of up to 9,000 lb (4,000 kg).
The rear door handles are installed on the "C" pillar as part of a Nissan design tradition that started with the 1986 Nissan Pathfinder. When the four-door Pathfinder was introduced, Nissan chose to conceal the door handles as a part of the "C" pillar trim to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.
The switch to the Armada name occurred in September 2004 for the 2005 model year, where it received new badges without "Pathfinder." The 2005 model year also included a backup camera.

- Summary: I have a 2005 Nissan Armada that has a known problem with its brakes. It has a faulty Delta Brake Sensor and Brake Booster. What happens is that the brake light comeson, the vehicle losses its braking ability and sounds like metal scraping when you apply the brakes. The issue will reset if you turn off the car. Nissan knows about this issue but has failed to send 2004-2006 Armada owners of information on how to get this fixed at a local dealer. Here is a link to the class action settlement: https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/closed-settlements/nissan-brake-defect-class-action-settlement/ My complaint is this, there were 350,000 affected vehicles and mine was one of them. I was never notified by Nissan of this faulty part and did not know that Nissan would reimburse me for the repair. The settlement date is now closed but the problem still exists in many Nissan affected vehicles. I called Nissan USA and they said Nissan could do nothing for me. I called my local Nissan dealer and described the problem and they said they could do nothing for me but that I could pay out of pocket to have the brake booster replaced at qa cost of $1500f or parts and labor. The error code associated with this problem is C1179. This issue is a safety issue and it affects the vehicles ability to stop. If you do not see the brake warning light on you do not know that the issue is happening. This could result in a dangerous situation at highway speeds. I would like the NHTSA to get involved and to demand that Nissan repair this known problem free of charge. 2005 Nissan Armada recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2005 Nissan Armada.
- Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2006 ARMADA, TITAN, INFINITI QX56 AND MODEL YEAR 2005-2006 FRONTIER, PATHFINDER AND XTERRA VEHICLES. THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) ASSEMBLY CONTAINS AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) RELAY THAT HAS A DIODE FOR ELECTRICAL CURRENT NOISE REDUCTION. THE ECM RELAY MAY ALLOW SILICON VAPOR TO FORM AND, OVER TIME, THE SILICON EVAPORATES FROM THE DIODE MOLDING WHICH CAUSES SILICON OXIDE TO DEVELOP ON THE ECM RELAY CONTACT DUE TO ARCING.
- Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE STALLING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ECM RELAY INSIDE THE IPDM ASSEMBLY. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 6, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

THE LOWER CONTROL LINK ASSEMBLY HAS TWO CYLINDRICAL COLLARS FORMING THE INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINTS TO THE CHASSIS. DUE TO AN IMPROPER WELDING PROCESS SOME COLLARS MAY CONTAIN WELDS THAT DO NOT MEET STRENGTH SPECIFICATIONS.
- Consequence: IF THE COLLAR WELD SEPARATES, THE VEHICLE HANDLING WILL DETERIORATE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
- Remedy: NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY AFFECTED LOWER LINK FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 12, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

THE FAN MOTOR MAY NOT BE PROPERLY SEALED ALLOWING EXCESSIVE WATER INTRUSION AND INADEQUATE DRAINAGE OF MOISTURE.
- Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE CORROSION IN THE MOTOR LEADING POSSIBLY TO OVERHEATING AND A FIRE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A 'THERMAL PROTECTOR KIT' AND TEST THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER FAN MOTOR AND REPLACE IT IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 2, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
- Manufacturer: HOPKINS MANUFACTURING CORP.
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: CERTAIN HOPKINS AFTERMARKET TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL CONNECTION HARNESSES SOLD FOR USE ON CERTAIN MODELS OF NISSAN VEHICLES WHICH ARE LISTED ABOVE. A WIRE MAY HAVE BEEN PLACED IN AN INCORRECT POSITION IN THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR HOUSING. THIS RESULTS IN AN INCORRECT ROUTING OF WIRES BETWEEN THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER AND THE TOWING VEHICLE WIRING SYSTEM.
- Consequence: THIS HARNESS WOULD RESULT IN POWER FROM THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER GOING TO THE TOWING VEHICLE DASH LIGHT CIRCUIT RATHER THAN THE TRAILER BRAKES. THIS RESULT WOULD BE THE LACK OF TRAILER BRAKING WHEN THE TOWING VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IT WOULD ALSO RESULT IN THE TOWING VEHICLES DASH LIGHTS BEING ACTIVATED WHEN THE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE FAILURE OF THE APPLICATION OF THE TRAILER BRAKE COULD RESULT IN REDUCED ABILITY TO STOP AND CONTRIBUTE TO A POSSIBLE CRASH.
- Remedy: HOPKINS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE ORIGINAL HARNESS WITH A REVISED HARNESS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN AUGUST 17, 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT HOPKINS AT 800-835-0129.

Congratulations on your recent purchase of a used Armada! It's great to hear that you've been impressed with the solidness of the vehicle and that you've had no problems with it so far, except for a minor wear mark on the driver's armrest. It's also wonderful to hear that the navigation, homelink, DVD, transmission, and engine have all functioned seamlessly. Despite being 6'-10

I've been a loyal Nissan customer since 1981, and this is my first large SUV. Overall, I really love everything about it, but I have noticed a few rattles and the leather quality is not as good as some of my previous Nissan vehicles. However, I must say that the power of this SUV is far superior to any other SUV I have driven.
-
The SUV is a solid choice with ample room for a large family. The navigation system is great and the power liftgate is very convenient. Despite some noise in the back, which is to be expected from an SUV, the SVT feature keeps the truck on the ground. Although the fuel economy could be better, it is reasonable for a big V8. Despite having to take it for service twice due to brake problems, I am confident in the overall quality of this SUV. I have had it since February and it handles snow with ease.
-
I noticed that there are some vibrations in the wheels and the ride is not as smooth as I would expect from a vehicle over $40K. Additionally, I have noticed some clicking noises coming from both front doors that I have not been able to resolve. It can be quite annoying, especially considering that the car only has 2000 miles on it. I plan to make a list of these issues during the first service to have them corrected. I have also found that the car is a bit difficult to wash, even Embassy Car Wash has had some trouble due to the many edges around the bumpers.
-
We purchased this vehicle after researching several other options, including the Tahoe/Yukon, Escalade and Sequoia. I'm so glad we chose this one! The automatic lifting back hatch is a lifesaver with a 3-year-old and newborn. Plus, the 3rd row seating is incredibly spacious and comfortable. I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone in need of a large SUV.

Driving this new vehicle is great, but unfortunately, the noise from the ceiling panel has been driving our whole family crazy. We've had to take it to the Service Department multiple times, but they haven't been able to fix the problem. It's been a bit of a nightmare having to spend so much time in the service department, but I'm hopeful that we can find a solution soon.

The Armada is a powerful and stylish vehicle that caught my attention during a test drive. However, I found that the lack of split third-row seating and limited cargo space when the third row is up to be a drawback. Additionally, I was disappointed to discover that the crossbars on the roof were too far apart to fit a cargo box from Thule or Yakima, and that the center roof console was not compatible with any DVD system other than the factory-installed one.

I purchased this vehicle despite being advised against it, but unfortunately it has required six trips to the dealership for repairs. The brakes, both front windows, door latches, a defective tire, and numerous rattles have all been issues. It appears to struggle in cold weather. I am disappointed in Nissan's lack of support for their product. However, the vehicle does have an attractive appearance and spacious interior.

I really like the size of my Armada. However, I think that it could be improved with better quality materials in the interior. It's disappointing that it's already starting to squeak and rattle at only 9100 miles.

A Nissan Failure. The quality is very poor, and the braking system is subpar. The rotors are too small and tend to warp between 3k-4k. Additionally, the sunroof leaks and rattles, and there are rattling sounds throughout the entire truck. The radio reception is poor, and the navigation system will not work in cold weather until the vehicle reaches warm temperatures. Although your wheel alignment may be fine, the steering wheel itself becomes off-centered. Unfortunately, my Armada has been in the shop for all of the above problems 16 times in the first full year. It's not where a new vehicle $40K+ belongs unless it's a Lemon, and the Armada is a lemon. The truck has already lost $20K in trade-in value. That's a big hit just to get out of this and into something more reliable.
