2009 Nissan Armada problems
The Nissan Armada (retrospectively referred to unofficially as the Nissan Pathfinder Armada) is a full-size SUV manufactured by Nissan for the North American market. From 2003 to 2015, the first-generation Armada was assembled in Canton, Mississippi based on the Nissan Titan. From mid-2016 onwards, the second-generation Armada has been built in Yukuhashi, Kyushu, Japan and shares the same platform as the Nissan Patrol, with American-specific modifications, and went on sale in late mid-2016 as a 2017 model. A luxury version of the Armada has been sold as the Infiniti QX80 (originally QX56).
First generation (TA60; 2004)
The 2004 model Pathfinder Armada was unveiled on April 17, 2003, at the New York International Auto Show. Developed under Carlos Ghosn's NRP (Nissan Revival Plan), development was done in September 1999 to 2003 under lead designers Shiro Nakamura and Diane Allen and chief engineers Yuzo Sakita and Larry Dominique. In January 2001, a final exterior design by Giovanny Arroba had been approved by Sakita, Allen, Nakamura, and Nissan executive management, with the final design freeze being completed in July 2001. It is assigned the platform code TA60.
Prototypes based on the Y61 Patrol were hand-assembled as mules from 2001, with the first TA60-specific prototypes being completed and sent to testing in early 2002. Design patents were filed in 2003, with production starting on August 14, 2003, and going on sale on October 1, 2003.
The Armada had a 5.6 L VK56DE V8 engine that made 305 hp (227 kW) and 385 lb⋅ft (522 N⋅m) of torque. This was mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and the Armada had a choice of either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. There are some Armadas that are capable of using E85. It has a towing capacity of up to 9,000 lb (4,000 kg).
The rear door handles are installed on the "C" pillar as part of a Nissan design tradition that started with the 1986 Nissan Pathfinder. When the four-door Pathfinder was introduced, Nissan chose to conceal the door handles as a part of the "C" pillar trim to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.
The switch to the Armada name occurred in September 2004 for the 2005 model year, where it received new badges without "Pathfinder." The 2005 model year also included a backup camera.

AFTER GETTING IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHOSE COMPUTER COULDNT COMMUNICATE WITH THE VEHICLE COMPUTER, THEN A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (NO NISSAN DEALER IN MY TOWN) WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, MY COWORKER BROUGHT ME A COPY OF A RECALL BY NISSAN FOR HIS 2006 PATHFINDER FOR A ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. I HAD IT TOWED FOR A 3RD TIME (TOTAL OF $415.00) TO THE NISSAN DEALER IN HELENA, MT 65 MILES AWAY, THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A BAD E.C.M. ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID "I WAS LUCKY I WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY"!!!! NOW IM OUT OF $1700.00 FOR A BAD ECM THAT I WAS NOT NEGLEGENT IN BREAKING, ON A VEHICLE LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD. - Summary: TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ARMADA. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO BOUNCE UP AND DOWN. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND NOTICED THAT TWO BOLTS HAD POPPED OUT OF POSITION AND ANOTHER WAS ABOUT TO POP OFF IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. HE WOULD HAVE NEVER CHECKED THE HOOD IF IT HAD NOT POPPED OPEN WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT HAD TO HAVE DAMAGED THE HOOD IN ORDER FOR THIS FAILURE TO OCCUR; THEREFORE, THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS VERY UNSAFE BECAUSE THE HOOD COULD HAVE OPENED AND IMPAIRED HIS VISIBILITY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 12,000.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2009 Nissan Armada.

- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2008-2011 Titan, Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder, Armada, and 2008-2009 Quest vehicles. The resin emblem on the driver's air bag cover may develop cracks and detach during air bag deployment.
- Consequence: A detached emblem can become a projectile during air bag deployment, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the drivers airbag cover. Owner letters were mailed December 8, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall are PC944, PC945, and PC946.

- Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN FRONT AND REAR LOWER LINKS, P/NOS. 54501ZQ00A, 54500ZQ00A, 551A1ZQ00A, 551A0ZQ00A , 54501EA00A, 54500EA00A, 551A1EA500, 551A0EA500, 54501ZR00A, AND 54500ZR00A, SOLD BETWEEN NOVEMBER 25, 2009 AND MAY 14, 2010 AS REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR MODEL YEAR 2004 THROUGH 2010 TITAN, ARMADA, AND QX56, AND MODEL YEARS 2005 THROUGH 2010 FRONTIER, XTERRA, AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE LOWER CONTROL LINK ASSEMBLY HAS TWO CYLINDRICAL COLLARS FORMING THE INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINTS TO THE CHASSIS. DUE TO AN IMPROPER WELDING PROCESS SOME COLLARS MAY CONTAIN WELDS THAT DO NOT MEET STRENGTH SPECIFICATIONS.
- Consequence: IF THE COLLAR WELD SEPARATES, THE VEHICLE HANDLING WILL DETERIORATE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
- Remedy: NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY AFFECTED LOWER LINK FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 12, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

- Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2009 TITAN, ARMADA, AND INFINITI QX56 VEHICLES. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE MAY INACCURATELY DISPLAY THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS SOME FUEL, TYPICALLY ABOUT ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY.
- Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH.

THE BRAKE PEDAL PIVOT PIN END WAS NOT SPIN-FORMED TO SPECIFICATION DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY. THE PIVOT PIN COULD SLIDE AND CAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PARTIALLY DISENGAGE FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL BRACKET.
- Consequence: THE DRIVER WILL EXPERIENCE UNUSUAL AND NOTICEABLE LOOSENESS IN THE PEDAL AND A REDUCTION IN BRAKING FORCE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT TO SEE IF THE PIVOT PIN HAD BEEN FORMED PROPERLY AND WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY IF NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 22, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

I had a 2005 Armada which I liked but wanted leather and a DVD player. I traded it for the 08 model and the ride is much better. The interior has been redesigned and is now more comfortable. The only real issue is the gas mileage, but since it's only used as a family hauler and doesn't get driven as much, it's not a major concern.

I never thought you would buy a 'full size' SUV, but the Armada is an awesome truck. It's great quality and has a smooth ride with good acceleration. Your wife, who is 4'11, has no trouble driving it thanks to the power adjustable pedals and rearview camera. You got a great deal since you were coming off a lease on your Pathfinder, and buying the Armada instead of leasing again was a smart choice.

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you were in need of a vehicle to tow horses and were considering options such as the Suburban and Expedition. After doing some research, I found that the Armada has more standard safety features and convenience features than the others. Additionally, the second row legroom beats any other SUV by far, and the nav/voice system is the best on the market. However, there are a couple of areas that could be improved. Firstly, the suspension tends to shudder when driving over broken pavement. Secondly, the seats aren't very supportive, which can magnify the effect of the truck's little body roll. Personally, I've owned LX 470s, RRs, and G500s, but I still find myself driving the Armada most of the time. If you prefer a richer environment, you may want to consider the QX56. Although I have had to take my new Nissan Armada back to the dealership for service four times in less than two months, I still have faith in this vehicle. I am disappointed with the issues I have experienced, such as the sound system and sunroof, but I am confident that Nissan will address these problems and provide me with a reliable car. While this is my first Nissan, I am hopeful that they will live up to their reputation and provide me with a positive ownership experience.

This is my second Armada (2004 and 2008). The 2008 model has some major upgrades, and one of the best features is the flex-fuel. It also has front sonar for parking, which is really helpful. I'm hoping this model won't have the brake issues that the 04 model did. The new design is much smoother and more visually appealing than the boxy earlier version. Within the first week, I was asked several times for a tour!
