The Nissan Armada (retrospectively referred to unofficially as the Nissan Pathfinder Armada) is a full-size SUV manufactured by Nissan for the North American market. From 2003 to 2015, the first-generation Armada was assembled in Canton, Mississippi based on the Nissan Titan. From mid-2016 onwards, the second-generation Armada has been built in Yukuhashi, Kyushu, Japan and shares the same platform as the Nissan Patrol, with American-specific modifications, and went on sale in late mid-2016 as a 2017 model. A luxury version of the Armada has been sold as the Infiniti QX80 (originally QX56).

First generation (TA60; 2004)

The 2004 model Pathfinder Armada was unveiled on April 17, 2003, at the New York International Auto Show. Developed under Carlos Ghosn's NRP (Nissan Revival Plan), development was done in September 1999 to 2003 under lead designers Shiro Nakamura and Diane Allen and chief engineers Yuzo Sakita and Larry Dominique. In January 2001, a final exterior design by Giovanny Arroba had been approved by Sakita, Allen, Nakamura, and Nissan executive management, with the final design freeze being completed in July 2001. It is assigned the platform code TA60.

Prototypes based on the Y61 Patrol were hand-assembled as mules from 2001, with the first TA60-specific prototypes being completed and sent to testing in early 2002. Design patents were filed in 2003, with production starting on August 14, 2003, and going on sale on October 1, 2003.

The Armada had a 5.6 L VK56DE V8 engine that made 305 hp (227 kW) and 385 lb⋅ft (522 N⋅m) of torque. This was mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and the Armada had a choice of either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. There are some Armadas that are capable of using E85. It has a towing capacity of up to 9,000 lb (4,000 kg).

The rear door handles are installed on the "C" pillar as part of a Nissan design tradition that started with the 1986 Nissan Pathfinder. When the four-door Pathfinder was introduced, Nissan chose to conceal the door handles as a part of the "C" pillar trim to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.

The switch to the Armada name occurred in September 2004 for the 2005 model year, where it received new badges without "Pathfinder." The 2005 model year also included a backup camera.

The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a second dealer - Jim Bone Nissan (1275 Santa Rosa Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95404) who advised the contact that she would be responsible for the cost of the repair because the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 205,000.

THE NEXT TIME IT WAS ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET, HAD JUST LEFT A RESIDENCE A HALF BLOCK AWAY DOING UNDER 20 MPH AND IT FELT LIKE THE WHOLE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS FALLING OFF BECAUSE IT WAS CHATTERING SO BAD. DIDN'T EVEN HIT THE BRAKES HARD AND WAS AFRAID IT WASN'T GOING TO STOP AT THE STOP SIGN. IT CONTINUED TO DO IT EVERY TIME I DEPRESSED THE PEDDLE EVEN VERY LIGHTLY. I HAD TO PULL AROUND THE CORNER AND STOP TO CHECK IT OUT BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING LOOSE OR WRONG. I STARTED OFF AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE JUST PULLING OVER AND STOPPING TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. I READ SOME BLOGS THAT SUGGEST THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED FREE OF CHARGE. THEY SAY THERE IS A FIX (REPROGRAMMING THE COMPUTER OR SOMETHING). THE BLOGS SAY THAT THE DEALERS ARE CHARGING BIG BUCKS TO DO THE WORK. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE DEALT WITH IMMEDIATELY. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NISSAN HASN'T BEEN FORCED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES BEFORE THIS SINCE IT IS WAY TOO COMMON ACCORDING THE BLOGS. IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I CALLED THE NEXT DAY FOR THEY WERE CLOSED. SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Summary: NOTE THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO WITHOUT ANY SERVICE HISTORY FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER. HOWEVER I WAS ABLE TO CONFIRM NO OUTSTANDING RECALLS OPEN ON THE VIN. WHILE TRAVELING HOME (45MPH) I OBSERVED THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD AND NOTICED THE BRAKES WERE MALFUNCTIONING. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL THE ABS/BRAKES APPEARED TO MAKE GRINDING/METALLIC NOISES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD VIBRATE AND GO TO THE FLOOR. I THOUGHT THAT A BRAKE LINE OR FLUID ISSUE MAY HAVE OCCURRED, BUT WHEN I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION I DID NOT SEE ANY VISUAL ISSUES. THEN UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE THE ISSUE WAS NO LONGER PRESENT. WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE I FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT NISSAN BRAKES HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES AND FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN NTB06-040.PDF REGARDING THE ISSUE. UPON USING A SCANTOOL TO READ THE VEHICLE CODES I WAS ABLE TO CONFIRM THAT DTC C1179 WAS PRESENT AND THAT THIS ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE SERVICE BULLETIN. THE SERVICE BULLETIN INDICATES A SOFTWARE UPDATE ADDRESSES THE ISSUE. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY INDICATED NISSAN WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ASSIST DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I AM SEEING ONLINE (CLUBARMADA, NISSANHELP, ETC) REGAING THIS ISSUE AND FEEL THAT IF A SOFTWARE UPDATE IS NEEDED TO RESOLVE THAN THERE IS EITHER 1) A SOFTWARE BUG (WHICH NEEDS A RECALL) OR 2) A DEFECTIVE SENSOR (DELTA SENSOR) THAT THE SOFTWARE UPDATE CHOOSES TO IGNORE OR DIMINISH. EITHER WAY A RANDOM BRAKE MALFUNCTION THAT CAN "FIX" ITSELF UPON REBOOT (RESTARTING THE VEHICLE) SEEMS SUSPICIOUS AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.

I PULLED OVER AS QUICKLY AND SAFELY AND SHUT OFF CAR. CAR WOULD NO LONGER START. MY CHILDREN WERE PANICKING AS THIS IS OUR MAIN SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION AND WE COULD BARELY GET OFF THE ROAD SINCE WE HAD ZERO NOTICE OR WARNING OF ANYTHING HAPPENING AND ACCORDING TO THE GAUGE, I HAD PLENTY OF FUEL. WE HAD TO BE TOWED HOME AFTER WAITING FOR 3 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK. AFTER MANY SEARCHES OF WHAT COULD BE, I SAW FAULTY GAS GAUGES ARE A COMMON ISSUE. SO I ADDED A COUPLE GALLONS OF GAS AND MY CAR FIRED RIGHT UP.

  • Summary: I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AROUND 45 TO 50 MPH. I LOOKED DOWN AND WHEN I LOOKED BACK UP A CAR WAS STOPPED IN THE ROAD. WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE IT MADE A WEIRD NOISE ALMOST LIKE A SPRING GOING BOING AND AIR RUSHING. THE NOISE IS VERY HARD TO DESCRIBE. THE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES HAD A WEIRD GRINDING SOUND AND A LOT OF VIBRATION IN THE PEDAL. I HAD THE BRAKES DOWN AS HARD AS I COULD. THE BRAKES DID WORK A LITTLE BUT NOTHING LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE. THERE WAS ONLY A VERY SMALL LIGHT IN COLOR SKID MARK. I LET THE OFFICER KNOW AFTER THE CRASH. AFTER LOOKING INTO IT I DISCOVERED THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. I WAS NOT INJURED BUT PEOPLE IN THE OTHER CAR WERE.

  • Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2006 ARMADA, TITAN, INFINITI QX56 AND MODEL YEAR 2005-2006 FRONTIER, PATHFINDER AND XTERRA VEHICLES. THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) ASSEMBLY CONTAINS AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) RELAY THAT HAS A DIODE FOR ELECTRICAL CURRENT NOISE REDUCTION. THE ECM RELAY MAY ALLOW SILICON VAPOR TO FORM AND, OVER TIME, THE SILICON EVAPORATES FROM THE DIODE MOLDING WHICH CAUSES SILICON OXIDE TO DEVELOP ON THE ECM RELAY CONTACT DUE TO ARCING.
  • Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE STALLING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ECM RELAY INSIDE THE IPDM ASSEMBLY. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 6, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

  • Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN FRONT AND REAR LOWER LINKS, P/NOS. 54501ZQ00A, 54500ZQ00A, 551A1ZQ00A, 551A0ZQ00A , 54501EA00A, 54500EA00A, 551A1EA500, 551A0EA500, 54501ZR00A, AND 54500ZR00A, SOLD BETWEEN NOVEMBER 25, 2009 AND MAY 14, 2010 AS REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR MODEL YEAR 2004 THROUGH 2010 TITAN, ARMADA, AND QX56, AND MODEL YEARS 2005 THROUGH 2010 FRONTIER, XTERRA, AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE LOWER CONTROL LINK ASSEMBLY HAS TWO CYLINDRICAL COLLARS FORMING THE INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINTS TO THE CHASSIS. DUE TO AN IMPROPER WELDING PROCESS SOME COLLARS MAY CONTAIN WELDS THAT DO NOT MEET STRENGTH SPECIFICATIONS.
  • Consequence: IF THE COLLAR WELD SEPARATES, THE VEHICLE HANDLING WILL DETERIORATE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
  • Remedy: NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY AFFECTED LOWER LINK FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 12, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

  • Summary: CERTAIN HOPKINS AFTERMARKET TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL CONNECTION HARNESSES SOLD FOR USE ON CERTAIN MODELS OF NISSAN VEHICLES WHICH ARE LISTED ABOVE. THE INTERNAL PART NUMBERS WITHIN HOPKINS ARE: 1010476025, 1040376025, 1110476025, 1170376025, 1290376025, 1010476035, 1040376035, 1110476035, 1170376035, AND 1290376035. A WIRE MAY HAVE BEEN PLACED IN AN INCORRECT POSITION IN THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR HOUSING. THIS RESULTS IN AN INCORRECT ROUTING OF WIRES BETWEEN THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER AND THE TOWING VEHICLE WIRING SYSTEM.
  • Consequence: THIS HARNESS WOULD RESULT IN POWER FROM THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER GOING TO THE TOWING VEHICLE DASH LIGHT CIRCUIT RATHER THAN THE TRAILER BRAKES. THIS RESULT WOULD BE THE LACK OF TRAILER BRAKING WHEN THE TOWING VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IT WOULD ALSO RESULT IN THE TOWING VEHICLES DASH LIGHTS BEING ACTIVATED WHEN THE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE FAILURE OF THE APPLICATION OF THE TRAILER BRAKE COULD RESULT IN REDUCED ABILITY TO STOP AND CONTRIBUTE TO A POSSIBLE CRASH.
  • Remedy: HOPKINS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE ORIGINAL HARNESS WITH A REVISED HARNESS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN AUGUST 17, 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT HOPKINS AT 800-835-0129.

    I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my recent experience with the Armada. Although I had previously had three successful expeditions, I decided to try something new and leased the Armada. Unfortunately, it has not lived up to my expectations. The vehicle has been in the shop six times due to design problems with the brakes and disks. Additionally, the overhead console is not properly installed due to the dealer's installation of the DVD player, which unfortunately does not even work. The squeaks and rattles are quite noticeable, even with the radio on. I have had some difficulties with the dealership, but I am hopeful that we can come to a resolution. Thank you for your time.

    The transmission actuator failed at 4200 miles, preventing the vehicle from being put into reverse. Even with the ignition off, the vehicle could move freely while in Park. I had it towed to the dealer for repairs. Unfortunately, NISSAN Corporate did not meet expectations in terms of customer satisfaction.

    I have experienced several issues with my Nissan truck and have had to take it to the dealership multiple times for repairs. Unfortunately, I have not been completely satisfied with the repair work as I have had to return for the same issues. These issues include problems with the brakes and rotors, 4-wheel drive, roof console, and sunroof. Additionally, I had to replace the tires after only 25,000 miles, which is much less than what I got out of my previous truck's tires. While I have had some challenges with my Nissan, I am hopeful that the dealership will work with me to resolve these issues and improve the quality of my driving experience.

    I wrote a review on 5/1/04 in favor of the Armada, but now I have a different opinion. If you are thinking about buying an Armada, let me share my experience with you. Unfortunately, I had some issues with my vehicle, including brake problems, wind noise in the rear window, a defective fan, and a cupholder that opened every time I applied the brakes. Despite the warranty, I had to take it in for repairs multiple times. Eventually, I decided to seek a remedy with a lemon law attorney. It's important to know that after 4 repeated repairs of an important part, your vehicle is considered a lemon. I encourage you to stand up for your rights and not let Nissan get away with this. From what I've heard, the Titan and the 2005 models are no better. Please take this into consideration before making your purchase.

    To borrow words from the great MLK, I am finally free! My wife and I went out for baby formula and diapers in December 2003, but ended up coming home with the biggest garbage we have ever owned or witnessed - a 2004 Nissan Armada. The problems were endless and the dealership looked the other way. But now, we are free from that money pit and driving a special Hyundai Santa Fe Sport.

    I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2004 Armada overall! While the interior design of the LE Model could have been dressed up a bit, it's great to hear that the performance is excellent. It's normal to experience a few rattles in the dash and front door panels, but I'm happy to hear that you find the long distance driving comfort to be excellent and the mountain performance to be superb. It's also great to hear that you find the Armada to be very maneuverable considering its size and that you like the distinctive external styling. I'm pleased to hear that you haven't experienced any mechanical problems with over 30,000 miles on the vehicle. The Bose audio and DVD system are great features as well. While it may be a bit cumbersome to flip the second row bucket seats to access the third row seating, I'm glad to hear that once you get there, it's a very comfortable ride. Lastly, the deep throated rumble and excellent acceleration are definitely impressive features of the Armada. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

    I really enjoy owning my armada. It's so versatile and the ride is incredibly smooth. The dashboard indicators for low tires, wiper fluid, etc are all very clear and easy to understand, so I never have to worry about any unexpected issues. It handles exceptionally well on the highway, better than any other vehicle I've owned (and I've owned many since 1999). The acceleration is fantastic, so I never have to worry about passing other cars or taking off from a stop. Overall, it's been a wonderful experience.

    The trip was actually quite nice, even with four kids and a DVD player. The leg room in the second row is amazing, and even the third row is more than enough for smaller people like me (6ft 1in). The engine is strong throughout the driving range, and I find it easy to drive in town. Parallel parking is not bad, especially with the help of rear sensors. The navigation system is excellent and easy to use.

    This is one of the best vehicles I've ever purchased. It has a great ride, handling, and comfort for up to seven adults. The interior storage is also quite large, with easy access and folding seats that don't have to be removed.
