2019 Nissan Altima problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.

The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.

The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-08
  • VIN: 1N4BL4BV3KC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: In August 2024, while driving at around 35 mph, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The background was red and had white writing. The only word I got to see was "Master" something. It flashed so quickly I couldn't read it. The car lost speed like it was about to stall simultaneously. A week later I had to jump start the engine. I had my battery checked and it was good. I had to get another jump start on October 8, 2024. I bought the car new in April 2019. I've replaced the battery twice. I shouldn't have to replace the battery that often. I have kept the maintenance up as required.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-09-08
  • VIN: 1N4BL4CV5KN
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: My car since 45000 miles has had an acceleration issue. When I engage the gas pedal, 3- 5 seconds pass before the vehicle moves. Once moving, the engine will stutter or slightly jerk forward and backwards, almost to a stalling point. The safety issue is the potential for accident as cars may collide with me from the side or rear not seeing the issue I’m having. Dealership refuses to fix telling me not to bring it in until a check engine light is on. There is electrical malfunctions happening in my car as I near 100k miles still having this issue. In research, many if not all Altima owners are reporting this acceleration issue, there are countless, so much so, the talk is wondering why no recall has been issued. A lawsuit was also filed, Judge dismissed, but plaintiffs were taken care of and problems rectified. If I don’t make a complaint, I’m not doing my part to advance this issue to a higher level. Thank you for listening and taking my voice seriously.

Negative 2019 Nissan Altima car reviews

  1. Lucas Hodkiewicz 2025-01-01

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to bring to your attention an issue I have been experiencing with my car since its purchase on October 31st, 2018. Unfortunately, the car has been in the shop several times for the same issue. Specifically, when riding over bumps, there is a loud banging noise coming from the rear underneath of the car. This has been quite uncomfortable for rear passengers, who really feel the impact. A Nissan representative went out to the dealership to investigate and report back to his team, but unfortunately, the issue cannot be resolved. Despite the car being dismantled and put back together piece by piece and tested each time, it still bangs. I have sent a letter to Nissan to offer one more chance to fix the issue before filing a lemon law. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  2. Lazaro Wyman 2024-10-07

I had a bad experience with my Nissan car's transmission. It failed at 62k miles and I had to buy another car. I was disappointed to learn that Nissan has been aware of these issues and has not taken any action to fix them. I would advise anyone considering a Nissan car to read about their CVT issues before making a purchase. It's important to be an informed consumer.

  3. Cameron Lakin 2024-09-28

The Altima's handling can be improved to match or exceed its competitors. Specifically, the steering could benefit from being tightened up, especially at higher speeds on the freeway.

  4. Benedict Rolfson 2024-07-28

I recently sold my 2019 Altima and upgraded to a 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid. This got me thinking about why I ever chose the Altima in the first place. While the pricing is similar, I found that the Honda offers more value for my money. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the Altima, such as the Android Auto skipping and a constant rattle in cold weather. Additionally, I realized that AWD is not necessary for my needs and that FWD would suffice. Overall, I am much happier with my decision to switch to the Honda Accord Hybrid.

  5. Rodrick Balistreri 2024-07-02

The system shut down completely and reset by itself. After 30-60 minutes, it came back on automatically, but unfortunately, a warning message appeared on the dashboard saying 'Malfunction'. This has happened to me three times already, but the dealership has been unable to reproduce the issue and there were no error codes or logs recorded in the system. The car has been at the dealership for 10 days now. Nissan has informed me that they will send a Field Engineer to the dealership to investigate the issue. Let's see what happens next!

Positive 2019 Nissan Altima car reviews

  1. Mack Auer 2024-10-13

Very sporty looking, catches the eye! You must have received tons of compliments when driving. The performance is outstanding. I can see why you appreciate the Altima's quality and standards, which is why more are still on the road. It's great to hear that you've never had any major problems, only the standard usual maintenance. You must really love it!!

  2. Cooper Schroeder 2024-10-10

This car ride is so smooth! I am pleasantly surprised by the amount of technology this car has for the price. It is much better than any Honda available today. Unlike some Honda models that require turbos to achieve a sporty feel, Nissan's 2.5L engine provides excellent power and fuel efficiency. The seats are the most comfortable on the market, surpassing even Honda and Toyota. I highly recommend this car to anyone in the market for a new vehicle!

  3. Horacio Schmidt 2024-10-09

This car is comfortable, fast, and smooth.

  4. Camren Ortiz 2024-10-06

I absolutely adore my 2019 Nissan Altima SV! Despite suffering from neck and back pain 24/7, I find the seats to be incredibly comfortable. The sophisticated 2-tone interior adds a touch of elegance, and the driving aides are a godsend. My typical drive is a 330-mile journey every other weekend, with only 10 minutes of in-town driving before hitting the open road. The car feels incredibly sporty when driving, and the fuel mileage is already impressive at 39 mpg. The ride is incredibly smooth, and I couldn't be happier with my experience at Headquarter Nissan dealership. Jamie Crowder, my salesman, was incredibly respectful and never pushy. He always made time for me, and I'm excited to get out and drive more often!

I have driven a 2011, 2013, 2017, and now a 2019 Nissan. Out of all of them, the 2019 is my favorite. The instrumentation has been greatly improved, making the menu more navigable. The audio display is also much better, although the camera is not as clear when backing up. The fuel mileage is great, which I believe is due to the new design on the front end. The cruise control switches are much more responsive than any of the previous models and display the set speed. However, in the first 1000 miles, I have noticed a few things that I dislike. The front seats are uncomfortable, with seat cushions that feel more narrow than previous models. The seams can be felt flexing when hitting a bump. The wide zero gravity foam in the 2013 and 2017 models are far superior. It's a shame to see Nissan revert back to such uncomfortable front seats. The steering wheel has a flat spot at the bottom, which takes some getting used to. The side mirrors are smaller and oddly shaped, making for less rearward line of sight. The washer pump doesn't even have enough pressure to hit the middle of the windshield. It seems like the fuel tank is smaller, or it's not possible to completely fill the tank. As someone who drives over 50,000 miles a year, I spend a lot of time in these cars. Unfortunately, I don't expect the front seats to last past 20,000 miles due to how narrow they are.
