The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.
The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

- Summary: My car has 33,214 miles on it. For no reason the alternator DIED ON IT. There was no warning on the dash of the vehicle. So the computer inside the vehicle did not give a warning that the electrical system for the alternator had died or that the battery had died. There’s no corrosion. There’s no shorts. I checked the fuses myself. This car has two sets of fuses one leads to the battery. The other one is for the infotainment center inside the vehicle. It’s not been tampered with. So there’s an issue with the computer system and how it registers errors to the dash of the vehicle also. That is a software issue. Whenever there is an issue with the engine, the computer system is supposed to register that to take it to get service or whatever. No warning ever came. An alternator is supposed to last 100,000 miles or better on a vehicle. So I’m stranded. I don’t have the tools to change out an alternator. But Nissan wants to collect my data to sell it. The tow truck just got here to give me a jump, so it’ll probably be towed to Nissan tomorrow to get it fixed. And it looks like a like I like she has to have a full bed for a tow. She can’t be towed like that. She has sensors and I don’t want her hurt.

- Summary: I took my car into the dealer to ask a question. Upon arriving I tried to open the drivers door after I turned the ignition off to exit the car and the drivers door would not open. The service man tried to open it from the outside with the same results. Finally it opened. It had done this before but I always forgot to tell them when I was at the dealership. The passenger door had done the same thing. The dealership ordered new front door latches for both front doors and replaced them. Yesterday I entered the drivers door to back the car out of my daughter’s garage. I was again unable to get out of the car. The door would only open part way then get stuck. Once outside the car I tried to re-enter the drivers door to leave and I could not get the drivers door open. This is a safety issue. It is scary when you cannot get out of your car.

Additionally, the contact stated while driving 45-50 MPH, the vehicle ahead slowed down, slid and stopped side ways, approximately two feet in the emergency lane and two feet in the left lane. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal, the wheels locked but the ABS failed to engage, causing the vehicle to skid. Additionally, the contact attempted to turn to the right to avoid the other vehicle, but the steering wheel was locked. The contact used his physical strength to steer the steering wheel; however, the vehicle crashed into the passenger's side rear bumper and headlight of the other vehicle. The contact stated that the forward collision avoidance emergency braking system failed to engage. The air bags did not deploy. The front driver's side door failed to open widely. The contact stated that he kicked the door in order to exit the vehicle. There was no injury sustained. There was no police report filed. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer's autobody repair shop, All Magic Paint & Body (14461 Commerce Center Dr, Moreno Valley, CA 92553). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a Nissan field inspector would inspect the vehicle and would review the EDR information. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5,300. The VIN was unavailable.

- Summary: I have just bought Nissan Altima SL 2023 - and it has issues with a Faulty backup camera, It's resolution is way too bright, and there is no way to set it up through the settings - I have asked dealer Support for it, and they showed me other 3 Cars having the same issue, and they said they could not fix it as the company has manufactured it - At night, it is hazardous to use the backup camera as the driver is not able to see what is behind just because the camera is reflecting the light and the display is too bright, like a flash - I have Nissan Pathfinder 23 and Nissan Altima 2023, and both cars does not have this kind of issue - Nissan is supposed to fix it ASAP as the backup camera is useless and very hazardous.

What a great car! The MPG is outstanding and it has a smooth, quiet ride. The SR trim has plenty of options to satisfy most drivers. Don't be fooled by negative reviews, this car may not be a sports car but it has ample power for everyday driving. As for reliability, if you take care of it with regular maintenance and drive responsibly, it will serve you well for many years.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the SL trim Altima that I've been driving for the past 3 weeks. I must say, it's been a smooth ride so far! The car handles really well and I'm happy to report that it gets great gas mileage. The only thing I'm not too fond of are the low profile tires, as they do decrease the ride quality a bit. However, the car has enough get up and go for most situations, which is great. I also really like the leather seats - they're a nice touch! Overall, I think this is a great option if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the Camry or Accord. It has more features and tech for less, which is always a plus. Thanks for reading!

During my business conference in Palm Beach County, I had the pleasure of driving a 2021 Nissan Altima. Although I was initially disappointed to not receive a Maxima, I was pleasantly surprised by the Altima's fuel efficiency. While it lacked automatic climate control, which would have been helpful in the Florida heat, I found it to be a great commuter car. Although it wasn't as powerful as I had hoped, it eventually got up to speed and kept up with the rest of traffic. The suspension was a bit bouncy, but the stereo system, with its wireless Apple CarPlay, was fantastic. The automatic braking feature was also a great addition that I didn't even realize the car had until it stopped for me when reversing into my hotel's parking spot. Overall, I had a positive experience with the Altima and would recommend it as a reliable and efficient car.I'm so used to eyeballing it every time I park, so having that reminder not to get too close was really awesome. It was kind of scary at first, but totally worth getting used to. It's not a bad car, I just wish Nissan got rid of that god-awful CVT. I know it would be a real character with an actual transmission with drive modes.

As a previous owner of a 2021 Nissan Maxima, I knew that opting for the top trim Altima VC Turbo would be a bit of a step down. However, I have been pleasantly surprised by the Altima's nimble and confident performance. The vehicle's larger HD screen, acceleration from the VC Turbo, and excellent fuel economy make me proud to have made the switch. Although there are a few areas where the Maxima has a clear advantage, such as steering feel and small niceties like ambient interior lighting and tilt-down mirrors, I still consider the Altima to be a great purchase. It would have been even better if Nissan had included the auto-dimming mirror and some of the options from the Maxima, given the Altima's price point of nearly $37,000. As a Nissan fan, I am happy with my decision to switch to the Altima.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the 2021 Altima. Overall, I think it's a great car that handles and drives well. However, I did run into a bit of trouble around 3,300 miles when the front camera stopped working. I reached out to the dealership and they assured me that it's nothing to worry about and that they're just waiting on a part. I experienced some issues with my car such as the speakers cutting out and the seat heaters not working properly. Unfortunately, the car eventually died without any warning signs, which was quite inconvenient. I had to tow it to the dealership and miss work, but Nissan did provide some reimbursement for the rental car. The dealership replaced the battery, which fixed the speaker and seat heater issues. However, a few months later, the speakers stopped working again and the seat heaters were acting up. I took the car back to the dealership, but they were unable to find any issues. I hope to avoid any future incidents.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the 2022 Altima SR AWD with midnight package. Overall, I've had a good experience with the car, but unfortunately, I did have an issue with the transmission recently. While I don't drive the car hard, the transmission blew unexpectedly. It was definitely frustrating, but thankfully the car is still under warranty. I've owned two different Altimas in the past (1998, 2006) and they didn't have as many problems as the current one. However, I still think the car has a lot of great features and potential. I just wish Nissan had used a different transmission. The seats are a bit uncomfortable and the engine and steering could use some refinement. The Android Auto system could benefit from some improvements compared to what VW offers. Additionally, the head unit can be a bit slow and touchy, and the car may feel a bit cramped. However, I understand that this is a rental car and I appreciate the opportunity to drive it. While the CVT may not be my favorite transmission out there, it still gets the job done.

I had a less than ideal experience with this car. The assisted driving mode seemed to be overly sensitive, causing the car to move erratically. Additionally, there were some issues with the flashing lights and alarms, which would activate in certain situations. The car also seemed to be quite sensitive to the road surface, which could be felt and heard while driving. The cruise control was not very effective, as it would cause sudden braking and disengage frequently. In comparison, my wife's Jetta is a much better car.
