2022 Nissan Altima problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.

The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.

The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-06
  • VIN: 1N4BL4CV4NN
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: On 6/5/2024 I purchased a vehicle from lithia Dodge in Twin Falls Idaho. On July 6th 2024 my wife and I we're driving through Walmart parking lot and the car just up and died. I called the car dealership to try and get a hold of the salesman that sold it to me or the finance manager and continue to have issues getting hold of someone, well in the process of trying to get a hold of someone one of the times that I called the salesman that answered the phone laughed at me when I told him the car had died on us and asked me how did it die. I took the car back to the dealership and told him to either fix it or keep it, they kept it to have the service department look at it. I received a call from the service department saying that the car was done and that they had hooked up their computer to it and nothing came up as having issues with the car or within the car, and they also asked me to go to the dealership and take a test drive with one of the service techs and try to make the car die no one can make a car up and die. On the same day I reported the car dying on us I also reported that the transmission had been slipping and they stated that when they drove it they didn't have any issues with the slipping or anything and the service manager of the service department kept giving me the runaround or an excuse and just didn't plainly want to look at it or even talk about it anymore. I also complained to them about the car not being serviced before they put it on the or selling it to us and that none of the filters had been changed on it. They told me that the oil and filters have been changed which it hadn't even after I took it back to them, after calling the service department and complaining about this they just told me that it had been done and that they need to prior authorization from the sales department to replace the air filter and cabin filter. I feel like they knew this car was a lemon and was just doing what they could to get rid of it.

At the same time my car immediately shot left so hard into the concrete median barrier at 70 mph. It all happened so fast I was not able to see what lights came on. My steering wheel would not turn. I did at least two 360’s off of the concrete wall finally stopping facing southbound in the northbound lanes of the interstate. My car is totaled. I’m suffering from a concussion. Waiting MRI results to be referral to the neurosurgeon for my spine. The police have told me I’m lucky I didn’t die. Nissan really don’t seem to care. They want me to be without a vehicle and not settle the loss for 3-4 months for when they get around to investigating the cause. There is so much body damage the insurance doesn’t have a need to do a mechanical investigation. The vehicle is currently sitting at the copart as I’m waiting to decide what to do since Nissan doesn’t seem to care their faulty product almost cost me my life and could cost others theirs. I’m trying to find someone who will come and do a mechanical investigation on the car.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-06-09
  • VIN: 1N4BL4CV8NN
  • Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: I bought my 2022 Nissan Altima in February this year. Upon leaving my house for work on June 9th, I noticed a unique crack in my windshield which had not been there previously. Nothing had damaged or hit it as I had not driven my car in over a day or so. Within a week or so my windshield became so severely cracked, it was unsafe to drive due to limited visibility. I notified Mclarty Nissan of this and they told me they did not handle windshield repairs. I contacted my insurance provider but due to the $500 deductible it was cheaper to pay out of pocket to replace it. Because of the inability to see clearly and lack of visibility which was a safety issue, I had to call in to work. This not only cost me money but it left my coworkers in a serious bind as they rely on me and because I am a nurse, it left them severely short staffed. I believe this was a defective windshield or a manufacturing error. I took pictures of the progression of the cracking that occurred to my windshield rendering it unsafe to operate.

Negative 2022 Nissan Altima car reviews

  1. Elwyn Beatty 2024-11-18

2017 was a great year for family sedans, but I wasn't aware of that at the time. Unfortunately, Toyota's 2018 redesign of the Camry resulted in a less comfortable ride with stiff seats. On the other hand, the Altima did not receive a significant upgrade with its 2019 redesign, but it still drives better than the new Camry. The Altima has a stronger passing power on the highway and better uphill drive due to its good low-end torque. However, the front seats are narrower than those of the 2018 Altima by about an inch, which makes them less comfortable than the older Altima. It's a shame that Nissan cut corners in this area. Lumbar support is not standard except for the highest trim, which is why I chose to buy the base model. Why pay thousands more for an equally uncomfortable car? I ended up with the Altima because I couldn't find my first choice, a new Ford Taurus, and the new Camry gives me back pain in just 10 minutes. The Altima has the best drivetrain power delivery among cars of this class and price, and I wanted to get a sedan before more redesigns make them even less comfortable. I did not trade in my 8-year-old Camry because it is still much more comfortable to sit and drive than any of these new cars. I am sure my old Camry will outlast the new Altima!

  2. Melvin Buckridge 2024-11-04

The seats are a bit uncomfortable and the engine and steering could use some refinement. The Android Auto could benefit from some improvements compared to what VW offers. Additionally, the head unit can be a bit slow and touchy. The car may feel a bit cramped for some drivers. However, I understand that this is a rental car and I appreciate the opportunity to use it. While the CVT may not be my favorite transmission, it still gets the job done.

  3. Johnny Bosco 2024-11-02

Despite having only 36,000 miles on my 2020 Altima SR, the seats started to rip. I reached out to Nissan Affairs for assistance, but unfortunately, they did not follow through on their promise to call me back. It is disappointing to see such cheap materials used in an otherwise nice car. As a customer, it is disheartening to feel like no one cares after signing on the dotted line. However, I am confident that Nissan will take the necessary steps to address this issue and provide a satisfactory resolution.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the 2022 Altima SR AWD with midnight package. Overall, I've had a good experience with the car, but unfortunately, I did have an issue with the transmission recently. While I don't drive the car hard, the transmission blew unexpectedly. It was definitely frustrating, but thankfully the car is still under warranty. I've owned two different Altimas in the past (1998, 2006) and they didn't have as many problems as the current one. However, I still think the car has a lot of great features and potential. I just wish Nissan had used a different transmission. I know there are other Altima owners out there who have had similar issues, so I wanted to share my experience to help others make an informed decision. Thanks for reading!

  5. Dante Hickle 2024-09-14

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the 2021 Altima. Overall, I think it's a great car that handles and drives well. However, I did run into a bit of trouble around 3,300 miles when the front camera stopped working. I reached out to the dealership and they assured me that it's nothing to worry about and that they're just waiting on a part. It's been almost 4 days now and we're still waiting, but I'm sure it will be resolved soon. Thanks for listening!

Positive 2022 Nissan Altima car reviews

  1. Quentin Stokes 2024-10-19

What a great car! The MPG is outstanding and it has a smooth, quiet ride. The SR trim has plenty of options to satisfy most drivers. Don't be fooled by negative reviews, this car may not be a sports car but it has ample power for everyday driving. As for reliability, if you take care of it with regular maintenance and drive responsibly, it will serve you well for many years.

  2. Douglas Koch 2024-09-29

This Altima SL has a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive. On a trip from NY to San Antonio and back, it averaged an impressive 42.1 mpg while cruising at 80 to 85 mph, fully loaded with luggage and people. It is the best car I have ever owned. The controls are excellent, the handling is superb, and it is smooth to operate. The Bose radio is top-notch, and the seating is really comfortable. The only flaw I noticed was that the passenger seat is too low, which made my wife uncomfortable seeing forward. She is 5'6

  3. Christop Hessel 2024-08-15

Electronics are above what could be expected and are also easy to use and navigate. Performance is top-notch and it looks great!

  4. Hank Brown 2024-05-07

Robert Williams is great! I'm so happy with my new Nissan Altima and how it fits perfectly within my budget. You should definitely check out Trophy Nissan!

  5. Eloy Brekke 2024-05-07

I've been driving an Altima rental for almost two weeks while my truck is in the shop. Although it's the low-end trim model, I find it quite comfortable. The car may be a little underpowered when starting out on an incline, but it's still acceptable. I'm really impressed with the great gas mileage it's getting. The car can easily accommodate four adults, which is a plus. I particularly like the keyless entry and remote start feature, which gives me hope that the car has nice electronics. However, the entertainment system seems to be the weak link. Although there's a nice big display, I can only connect my iPhone with a cable to access basic phone and iPod functions, which were available on a 2012 basic model Toyota. So, my message to auto manufacturers is this: I won't buy any vehicle that doesn't include Android Auto or Apple Carplay. It's not just Nissan that's losing at this game; Toyota is guilty too. I don't want to regret my vehicle purchase every time I get into my car. There was a time when it would be easy to upgrade to an aftermarket sound system, but that seems far from the case now. Since there's already a nice display installed, I wish there was a way to enable Carplay. I would even pay a reasonable amount to unlock that feature. But now, I would just have years of a less-than-optimal experience if I purchase this model.
