1990 Mitsubishi Pickup problems
The Mitsubishi Triton or Mitsubishi L200 is a mid-size pickup truck produced by Mitsubishi Motors. In Japan, where it has only been sold intermittently and in small numbers, it was originally known as the Mitsubishi Forte and from 1991 as the Strada. In the United States, Chrysler Corporation sold captive imports as the Dodge D50, Dodge Ram 50 and Plymouth Arrow truck, and Mitsubishi marketed it as the Mitsubishi Mighty Max until 2002.
For most export markets the name L200 is used, though it has also been known as the Rodeo, Colt, Storm, Magnum, Strakar (used in Portugal since 1999; Strakar is a portmanteau of Strada and Dakar), and others. In 2015, Fiat Professional launched a rebadged version as the Fiat Fullback. In 2016, Ram Trucks launched a rebadged version as the Ram 1200 for the Middle East market.
Cumulative sales of the first three generations exceeded 2.8 million units around the world. As of February 2021, the pickup truck is sold in every available Mitsubishi market except the United States, Canada, Japan, India and China. In Japan, it was previously sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza.

Common 1990 Mitsubishi Pickup problems
The Mitsubishi Mighty Max, produced from 1990, is known for its reliability and robustness, making it a popular choice for commercial and domestic use. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues with the 1990 Mitsubishi Mighty Max:
- Transmission problems: For models produced between 1987 and 1991, transmission issues were a common complaint. Many owners reported difficulty shifting into and out of gears, as well as slipping or jerking during acceleration. These problems were often attributed to faulty transmission components or issues with the clutch or hydraulic system.
- Engine oil leaks: Another issue reported by owners of 1987-1991 Mighty Max models was engine oil leaks. Many of these trucks were prone to leaking oil from the valve cover gasket, which could result in low oil levels and potential engine damage if not addressed promptly.
- Rust: Rust on body panels was a common problem with these models, especially in areas with high humidity or salt exposure. This issue can affect the overall appearance and longevity of the vehicle, and can be costly to repair.
- Alternator and starter issues: Some owners reported issues with the alternator and starter, which could lead to difficulty starting or a dead battery. These issues can be particularly frustrating for drivers, as they can affect the overall reliability and usability of the vehicle.
- Fuel injector problems: Some owners of 1987-1991 Mighty Max models reported acceleration issues due to faulty fuel injectors. This could cause poor fuel economy, as well as hesitation or stalling during acceleration.
- Clutch fork and/or shaft assembly may break: This issue has been reported by some Mitsubishi Mighty Max owners, and can result in difficulty shifting gears or even complete transmission failure.
- Ignition coil problems: Ignition coil problems can affect the overall performance and reliability of the vehicle. Symptoms of a faulty ignition coil include difficulty starting the engine, misfires, stalling, and increased emissions.
While these issues can be frustrating for drivers, it's important to note that regular maintenance and careful attention to these problems can help keep the Mighty Max running smoothly. Working with a qualified mechanic who is familiar with the Mighty Max and its common problems can also help ensure that any issues are identified and addressed promptly. Additionally, addressing problems as soon as they arise can help prevent more serious and expensive repairs down the line.
