2018 Mitsubishi Outlander problems
The Mitsubishi Outlander (Japanese: 三菱・アウトランダー, Hepburn: Mitsubishi Autorandā) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors since 2001. It was originally known as the Mitsubishi Airtrek (Japanese: 三菱・エアトレック, Hepburn: Mitsubishi Eatorekku) when it was introduced in Japan.
The original Airtrek name was chosen to "describe the vehicle's ability to transport its passengers on adventure-packed journeys in a 'free-as-a-bird' manner", and was "coined from Air and Trek to express the idea of footloose, adventure-filled motoring pleasure." The Outlander nameplate which replaced it evoked a "feeling of journeying to distant, unexplored lands in search of adventure."
The second generation of the vehicle was introduced in 2006 and all markets including Japan adopted the Outlander name, although production of the older version continued in parallel. It was built on the company's GS platform, and used various engines developed by Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, and PSA Peugeot Citroën. PSA's Citroën C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007, which were manufactured by Mitsubishi in Japan, are badge engineered versions of the second generation Outlander. Global sales achieved the 1.5 million unit milestone in October 2016, 15 years after its market launch.
As part of the third generation line-up, Mitsubishi launched in January 2013 a plug-in hybrid model called Outlander PHEV. As of January 2022, global sales totaled about 300,000 units, and according to JATO Dynamics, the Outlander PHEV is the world's all-time best selling plug-in hybrid since December 2018. As of 2019, Europe is the leading market with over 126,000 units sold through January 2019, and the Outlander plug-in hybrid listed as Europe's best-selling plug-in hybrid car for five years running, 2015 to 2019.
The fourth-generation model was released 2021. Following Mitsubishi's entry to Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, the fourth-generation Outlander is based on the Rogue/X-Trail, which is built on the CMF-CD platform.

Common 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander problems
The Mitsubishi Outlander 2018 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most significant issues is the automatic transmission failure, which has been reported by many owners. This issue is often characterized by whining or rattling noises coming from the engine bay, and in some cases, a 'transmission overheating' warning may also appear on the dashboard. The proposed fix for this problem is to replace the transmission altogether, which can be a costly repair.
Another common problem with the Mitsubishi Outlander 2018 is the body paint issues. The paint on the car is prone to chipping and scratches, indicating a poor paint job. This issue has been reported by many owners, particularly on the passenger's side. The paint problems can lead to more severe issues, such as rusting, if left unattended.
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander also has issues with its engine, which has led to a recall of specific 2015-2017 Outlander models. The recall documents state that these vehicles may have defective relays that may result in various engine issues such as stalling, reduced engine power, and other problems.
In addition to these issues, the Mitsubishi Outlander 2018 has been reported to have problems with its safety equipment, particularly the airbag system. In some cases, the airbags failed to deploy following an accident, but there's no known recall about this issue.
While the Mitsubishi Outlander 2018 has been reported to have several common problems, it is essential to note that not all vehicles of this model will experience these issues. However, potential buyers should be aware of these problems and consider them when making a purchasing decision. It is always recommended to have any used vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic before buying to ensure that it is in good condition and to identify any potential issues.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

- VIN: JA4J24A59JZ

- Summary: The sunroof on our vehicle, self exploded while driving. There was a loud bang, and then we were covered in sunroof glass shards. The fine dust of the sunroof glass went into my right eye which created minor eye irritation. I was able to pull over. Flush out my eye with water and then proceeded to remove the pieces of glass from the sunroof area because I was afraid the pieces would blow off and hit any vehicle that was behind us for the remainder of our drive home. It scared the hell out of us. I am thankful that my daughter was not driving due to seeing her panic reaction from this experience. There were no drivers in front of us. We were not driving under any trees. It was a clear open rural road. Went to our local dealer. They inspected the sunroof & stated they have never seen anything like this happen. Since I was out of the warranty due to mileage(9,000 over)they suggest I go through my insurance company to resolve this matter. My view on this is it wasn’t so much a warranty issue, but a huge safety issue. Never would I imagine a Sunroof self exploding while driving and not causing me to have an accident because of my reaction to it. So with this in mind, I directly called Mitsubishi motors of North America. I had them open up a case number on this issue. The final response back from the manufacture was that I needed to go through my insurance company to deal with having my sunroof replaced. During filing my case to the manufacture directly, they asked me what I would like to have Mitsubishi motors of North America do. I stated to have my sunroof replaced with the right tempered glass. That this was a scary situation and one of great safety concern that no sunroof with all the manufacture testing should ever have this happen. I was very disappointed that they were not willing to take the responsibility of replacing the sunroof properly with the right tempered glass. My insurance company view the photo of the sun roof damage and a claim is in the process.
Carry Handle, Shell, Base PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-18
- VIN: JA4J24A55JZ

- Summary: Our car seat is nearly brand new (first used at the end of Sept 2023 upon birth of our daughter) upon placing the car seat in the base, we noticed it wasn’t making the clicking sound indicating a secure lock to base. Upon further investigation it appears the pieces that lock the car seat in place are jammed and not operating properly. If we had gotten in a car accident the car seat would not have been properly secured.
SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-08-27
- VIN: JA4AD3A30JZ
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: I have a safety recall on my vehicle. Mitsubishi says I will have to dry from oklahoma to Arkansas because they no longer have places in Oklahoma that will fix a recall. But there are many dealerships that are selling Mitsubishis. Those dealerships also tell me I would have to take it to Arkansas. This is a huge problem, I bought this car brand new and unable to get recalls fixed on it unless I drive to another state. This is awful. I’m a nurse and work a lot I don’t have time to dry to Arkansas and have my car worked on. Not only that time, gas and mileage. That’s not fair at all to me. They should have to have a center of some sort in Oklahoma to fix these recalls if they are going to be selling new Mitsubishis here in Oklahoma.

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. The front of my car smashed into the rear end of her car and I smashed the right side of my head into the steering wheel. I’ve sustained a traumatic brain injury, long term post concussion syndrome along with a page long list of injuries that I’m still dealing with. It’s been a little over a year and my injuries are just getting worse. Mitsubishi sent a guy out to read my Event Data Recorder with promises of giving me a copy of the report. After 6-7 months of them refusing me the report and telling me the air bags should not have went off i hires a lawyer to subpoena a copy of the report. It says the safety features failed. But here I am left with a car that’s totaled and injuries I will never recover from. I also did research and found out that my car was made in the same plant on the same line as the other 68,000 recalled 2018 outlanders. I can’t understand why mine wasn’t part of the recall?!?! It was made in between the dates as the other 68,000 that was recalled.

2018 Mitsubishi Outlander recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander.
- Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
- Components: SEAT BELTS: REAR/OTHER:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY
- Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Outlander and 2018-2019 Outlander PHEV vehicles. The second-row center seat belt buckle may interfere with the right-side seat belt buckle when the seat backs are folded down. The interference may cause the right-side seat belt buckle cover to come off, making the buckle latch inoperable and unable to restrain an occupant.
- Consequence: An unrestrained occupant has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will modify the second-row center seat belt buckle cover, install a new warning label to the second-row seat support base, and provide a new warning label insert for the owner's manual, free of charge. The recall began September 1, 2020. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-20-004.

Due to incorrect software, the FCM-ECU (Electronic Control Unit) may apply braking for longer than needed, even after a pedestrian is no longer detected.
- Consequence: If the FCM-ECU software activates the brake for longer than necessary, the driver may react by applying additional braking. The resulting rapid deceleration of the vehicle can increase the risk of a rear-end collision.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the FCM-ECU software with updated software, free of charge. The recall is began October 16, 2018. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-18-007.

- Consequence: The incorrect rim size information on the label can cause the operator to replace the rim with an incorrect rim size, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify owners and send them a corrected certification label, free of charge. Owners can also choose to have the label replaced by a dealer, free of charge. I absolutely love my 2018 Outlander! However, I have noticed that the A/C cycles on and off every 5 seconds, and then 8 seconds off, resulting in a temperature difference of 8-10 degrees. Although I have taken it to the dealership 3 times for this concern, I was advised that this is normal. To keep back seat passengers comfortable, I have to run the A/C on the highest fan setting, which can be a bit noisy. My 2016 Outlander did not have this issue and would freeze you out. I believe that the new 1234a Freon may be the cause of this problem. As someone who works in the auto industry, I feel that the evaporator temperature sensor is overly sensitive. I will give my dealership another chance to fix the issue, and if they cannot, I will consider enacting lemon law procedures and offering a final repair attempt. Despite this issue, I am thrilled with the fuel mileage and the amazing Rockford Fosgate audio system. I just hope that the A/C can be fixed soon!

Bought from enterprise sales & chase loan. Great system. The mechanic said it was a well-made car that needed minimal maintenance!

I purchased my 2018 Outlander with zero down and 1% financing, which was a great deal. However, I have found that the 4 cylinder, CVT is underpowered, especially with a full load of passengers. The CVT transmission takes some getting used to, but it's not my favorite. The electric steering is not my preference, but it's normal for this type of steering. The air conditioning cycles warm air intermittently, which can be frustrating. Despite these issues, my wife loves the car and it has 4wd, which is a plus. The switch for the 4wd is conveniently located on the console. Overall, it's a decent car with some minor drawbacks.

I've been driving this SUV for about 6 months now. While it's a good performance vehicle, I have noticed that the gas range is not the best. On regular street driving conditions, you can expect to get around 220 miles per tank, which means you'll need to fill up again after about 100 miles. On long drives, it performs a little better, but still not as well as other SUVs in its class. If you're planning on driving a lot or taking long trips, this might not be the best SUV for you. Additionally, the workmanship and interior design could use some improvement. The storage space is quite limited and the space utilization could be better. Overall, I think Mitsubishi missed the mark on this one.

The powered versions (SEL trims) of the Mitsubishi Outlander have a known issue with the driver side seat rocking, which I unfortunately experienced after just 1900 miles. Despite several repair attempts, the issue persists, with over an inch of movement at this time. As a confident driver, I prioritize safety and security while on the road, and this defect is unacceptable. I urge Mitsubishi to take responsibility for their product and provide a solution for this issue. As a loyal customer, I expect nothing less than honesty and integrity from the manufacturer.

I recently purchased the GT V6 for its power and towing capability, having previously owned a Ford Escape Titanium with a 2.0 EcoBoost engine. However, I found the GT V6 to be underpowered for a V6, with low horsepower and torque. The transmission also struggled when driving uphill, frequently shifting up and down. Despite being marketed as an upgraded model capable of towing 3500 lbs, it still needs more power and torque. Additionally, I have found the gas mileage to be poor, as I am unable to achieve the stated gas mileage even when driving at 72 mph on the highway.

Hey there! Before making a purchase, it's important to know what you're getting. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of buying a car without checking its features and now I'm paying almost $700.00 a month for a car that doesn't have much in it. I feel like I got ripped off. How are you doing today?
